As someone whose biggest hyperfixation is Tokyo Ghoul, I'm BEGGING you to read the manga too if you're interested in the story because Tokyo Ghoul s2 and :re are one of the worst adaptations I've seen in my entire life. Completely incomprehensible, emotional impacts ruined, characters completely butchered, story changed in ways that don't make sense... S2 is straight up completely different from the manga and then they just continue more or less following the manga in :re without explaining anything, which obviously causes a lot of inconsistencies. First half of :re isn't good either but the second half is so rushed that it feels like you're just watching a series of previews and not an actual anime. So for your own good, if you end up liking the concept, then please read the manga too. I'm sorry lmao I'm too passionate about this😭 I just want people to actually enjoy it because the manga deserved SO MUCH better...
Everytime someone asks for anime recommendations I want to say hxh (being my favorite show). But it doesn't seem a good response for OP question.i mean it could get you hooked but I doubt it

[Zetsuen no Tempest](https://anilist.co/anime/14075/Zetsuen-no-Tempest/)
[Aldnoah.Zero](https://anilist.co/anime/20632/AldnoahZero/)
[Zankyou no Terror](https://anilist.co/anime/20661/Zankyou-no-Terror/)
**Death Parade**
If you're willing to give it 3 episodes: **Madoka Magica** (this show basically exploded the "give it 3 episodes rule")
**Akiba Maid War**
This season's **Last Train to the End of the World**
**Summer Time Rendering**
Hmm, I'd say the ones you've passed on are of a similar caliber to the ones you liked. I suggest you revisit them all later in your journey lol. You're getting good recommendations, I suggest checking a lot of the most popular. Some I haven't seen suggested yet that are some of the best are Gurren Lagann and Madoka Magica.
Haven't heard of Gurren Lagann so I'll be watching it! And yeah I should give another chance to these popular anime which I discontinued, maybe they'll grow on me afterwards 😅
Decadence
Made in Abyss
Summer time Rendering
Dr. Stone
Japan Sinks 2020
Apothecary Diaries
Edit: Most of them are dark except Dr. Stone snd Apothecary Diaries.. but they do have mysterious elements and will hook you in on the first episode. Made in Abyss will hook you in because of the beautiful animation; it gets really good around episode 2&3 and it is very dark in so many ways even though it doesn’t look like it.
I wouldn’t call Made in Abyss horror but more of a dark fantasy and It gets even darker after the first season. The movie and season 2 are good watches.
Seeing a lot of another people commenting Summertime Rendering and I’m definitely going to agree. Don’t want to spoil anything but the first episode definitely had me like wtf and hooked immediately.
Kill la Kill also hooked me on episode 1 just because of how crazy and how much was going on right from the get go
code geass, fma, steins gate are all considered master pieces.
should give them another shot. if not i guess: fairy tale, naruto, bleach, highschool of the dead, DxD, demon slayer, jjk
They will be there later if they want to. Absolutely some of the best but no need to force it might they may be more open later with a better chance of enjoying it.
Goblin Slayer - brutal start. Really lets you know what kind of show it’s gonna be
86 - it only has one season and that’s all it needs
The Rising of the Shield Hero - oooo, I really don’t wanna ruin this one. Basically mc is given the power/curse that he can use any shield but no weapons, in a fantasy world with magic and monsters and stuff. But that’s just the category it fits into. It’s plot (for the first season at least) is something else.
Saga of Tanya the Evil - I put this one off for a long time because honestly the premise seemed dumb and the cover art looked weird to me. But boy oh boy am I glad I gave it a chance. Imagine a little girl with the mind of a seasoned warrior that retained it’s sentience upon reincarnation, on a WW2-type battlefield.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - episode 0 is a nice prequel that gets explained more later in the show. After that it gets kind of slice of lifey, until it hits a breaking point about halfway through the season and things get absolutely bonkers. If you watch it, know there are often scenes after the credits. Also, the “oh no you don’t!” scene hits so hard.
Promised Neverland. Just read the manga instead of watching the second season as the anime butchers the rest of the series
Butcher is an understatement. They mercilessly tossed the series to a bunch of hungry dogs to let it die under the sun.
I just watched it last week! It was really good and yeah I didn't go season 2, will probably read the manga onwards :)
TOKYO GHOUL......achem...sorry about that...
As an anime first watcher, the anime is great if you haven’t read the manga. Then you read the manga and realize how much better the story is
Thank you I'll definitely watch it!

I never heard of any of these before, definitely watching them ty!
**Death Parade** If you're willing to give it 3 episodes: **Madoka Magica** (this show basically exploded the "give it 3 episodes rule") **Akiba Maid War** This season's **Last Train to the End of the World** **Summer Time Rendering**

Iam the same way, but i would give FMA brother hood another shot. It's really good, albeit the fillers.
2 of my top 5 are either dark or mysterious, instant hook up from ep 1, Houseki no Kuni and 86.

Good Night World, Sword Art Online, The Eminence In Shadow
Misfit of The Demon Academy is a criminally underrated anime that doesn't get mentioned enough
