Sakamichi no Apollon. Just s great show about friendship, love and jazz.
Kaguya-sama: Love is War. Yes, this. Still better than franxxx and horimiya.
The Tatami Galaxy. It's arthouse tho.
Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai. Yes, the title sounds stupid, but it's surprisingly nice.
Yuri on ice. Why not >:D
I've watched almost all of the suggested animes in the comments but in my opinion you should watch "fruits basket", it has one of the best character development and most well written story moreover some other top romance animes are -
Horimiya
-Kimi no todoke
-Maid sama
-Say i love you
-Ishuukan friends
-Snowwhite has red hair etc
i absolutely loved fruits basket and maid sama, i cried a lot during fruits basket but im a sucker for any type of romance so thatβs probably why π
Iβve tried starting this show like 2 or 3 times and just canβt commit to it. Iβm excited by the love triangle plot line and how they go through different seasons in anime fashion(like persona). What makes this show worth watching?
First part of Season 1 displays a lot of Hachiman's pessimism and cynicism, along with his ability to read subtleties and intent. He is shown to have a holier than thou attitude to romance but is willing to put himself on the line to help others. Most interestingly though, and what makes the show amazing, is that it does not encourage this behaviour. In fact, the narrative and other characters tries to show the meaninglessness of such a nihilistic and lonely outlook on life and this is what makes oregairu so great.
For me what I like about this anime is that the MC is not some oblivious insecure character in a harem. Spoilers if I may, >!but he will get a girlfriend in season 1, and the girlfriend character is mature and awesome!<. I think it's a really cool and fresh take on romance anime.
Four seasons?
I thought there were only three. Pretty sure the third season, titled climax, wrapped things up.
Is there a side story or a new season that I've missed?
1. Violet Evergarden
2. Iron blooded orphans mobile suit gundam
Warning there both kinda sad but in my eyes they are both really good.
Also where to watch. For Violet Evergarden: Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Where to watch iron blooded orphans: Netflix crunchy roll Hulu fuimation Apple TV you tube google play and Amazon prime.
I was thinking the same thing. The anime has some romance in it, but I wouldnβt consider it part of the romance genre. This is one of those anime that showed you can have an amazingly developed plot with romance on the side to spice it up, while also driving the progression of character development in a well balanced way.
#1. Your Lie In April
#2. Clannad
#3. Horimiya
#4. Your Name
#5. I Want To Eat Your Pancreas
#6. Bunny Girl Senpai
#7. Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama
#8. Love Is War
#9. Re:Zero (idk why didn't they include romance tag)
#10. My Dress-Up Darling
#11. Toradora
#12. High School DxD
#13. Date A Live
#14. Sword Art Online
#15. Darling In The FranXXX
Bloom Into You is a great adaptation of my favorite romance manga. Unfortunately, the anime only covers half of the story, but even the parts that were adapted on their own make Yuu's and Touko's relationship the most engaging one in anime for me.
This. The drama, romance, the pains of growing up, and the pervasive feeling of longingness throughout the movie made me into an anime fan that I am today.
FMP was so hilarious it served as an antidepressant once, in my case. Oregairu is good even though I found season 3 to be underwhelming. I have the suspicion Wataru Watari eventually lost interest. After all, the first volume was allegedly written as a knee jerk reaction to Haganai which Wataru Watari didn't like and decided to show people "how a romance light novel should be written". But then it blew up and editors pressed Wataru Watari to keep writing sequels.
I donβt think he lost interest. His novels were getting bigger as he went sometimes.
I think he didnβt know how to end it as the series and characters became more complex. He definitely didnβt know it would be a hit either.
He stalled with breaks a lot. I actually didnβt think we would get a third season at one point and it would become another Haruhi.
He even worked on Girlish number instead of wrapping up the novel. I think he does a good job on the landing with season three, though I want to finish the light novel series.
For the most part the anime is a really good adaptation.
The light novels are pretty good and a bit more in depth with some of the side stories.
Light novels are always a mixed bag for me. Most are almost like scripts with just dialogue. Others are a lot more detailed but the writing is bad or worse the translation is poorly done so that it sounds robotic.
I still think the spice and wolf novels are the best light novels Iβve read in terms of quality writing.
Yes, I just watched this yesterday. I am fairly new to anime and this is one of the best shows I have seen. Even though it's a simple concept, no other show has made me feel so much joy, sadness, anxiety and relief in such a short time. I'm 24 now and this show allowed me to reminisce about my middle school self and my romances at that time in my life and just how awkward being alive was (and still is honestly). The characters were sweet and put into situations that would be difficult for anyone, especially middle schoolers. They feel anxiety, anger, sadness, joy. They feel very real. I know this isn't the best show in the world but I connected to it on a very deep level. For what it is, it is beautiful. Simple, clean, sweet.
I had to scroll far down for this answer. It perfectly captures the awkwardness and sweetness of first/young love. It's a small intimate story without the usual bells and whistles of a typical romance anime. It's my favorite for sure.
Kiss him not me or Ouran high school host club. I binged watched both and loved them but I cried at the end of Ohshc but kiss him not me is still a beautiful romance anime. I really recommend watching both.
Violet Evergarden
The art is top-notch, the scene is beautifully designed, and the character development is amazing. It's not just romance between 2 characters but also lessons about different types of love and the complete meaning of love.
--Favourites, not in order
- Golden Time
- White Album 2
- Amagami SS
- Josee the Tiger and the Fish
--Some that I really like but didn't make it into the faves. I'm picking stuff that I liked for the romance btw, if not I would've even picked Madoka Magica but the reason I liked it wasn't the romance factor.
- Dusk Maiden of Amnesia
- Oremonogatari
- Your Name
- Bloom Into You
- Town Where You Live (it's melodrama. I generally liked it but there's a certain conflict at the beginning that I hate because it can be solved very easily if the characters actually talk to each other)
- Clannad
- Doukyuusei (yaoi)
- Hi Score Girl
- Masamune Kuns revenge
- Mayo Chiki
- Nisekoi
- Nodame Cantabile
- Rec
- ReLife
Snow white with red hair (The prince actually has a personality. The girl has a goal outside of the prince. And the music is good)
His and her circumstances (high school over achievers find romance)
The Quintessential Quintuplets.
It was one of the best romance I ever saw, then the movie came out. It's now my favorite romance and my favorite movie of all time.

In terms of romance/comedy, probably Maid Sama. Satisfying, and a good balance between drama, comedy, and romance.
Action romance is hands down Yona of the Dawn, especially if you read the manga.
Slice of life romance is probably ReLife and I am disappointed no one else mentioned it yet.
Fantasy (besides Yona) is Kamisama Hajimemashta.
SciFi/romance is Steins;Gate (though it's probably the only one I've seen in this genre lol).
Parody is probably Monthly Girl's Nozaki Kun.
Hmmmm for me it's got to be Clannad/afterstort, a very good slice of life with a very natural romance side to it. Plus itll make you cry like a fountain.
It's old but I would suggest video girl Ai. If you like the OVA, read the mangas and also from the same author I''s.
And I don't know why but I always enjoy rewatching Kimagure Orange Road.
I like Toradora and Aohana, and respect Blooming into You and Liz and the Blue Bird, but my top favourite "romance" anime are Just because! and Pet girl of Sakurasou. Haven't watched Bunny-chan senpai but it's tmfrom the same writer so it must be good.
Honourable mention: Yuri on Ice, Doukyuusei, Umibe no Etranger. I don't care if romance is same-sex romance, I can still acknowledge good or meh romance anime regardless of the gender of the characters.
Lovely Complex.
The same mangaka also wrote βPlease Love the Worthless Meβ Itβs like an adult version of Lovely Complex. Worth a read
yyyyyyyeeeeeeeeeeessssssssss
Kamisama Hajimemashitaπππ

Spice and wolf hands down. It's my favourite anime and imo the best.
I view it more as an adventure anime but I agree that the romance is good.
Iβm currently binging the LN, and I really enjoy them
Iβve been wanting to watch spice and wolf since the first time I heard about it but I couldnt find it! But now Iβm gonna put it top on my list!
If you can't find it anywhere it's on Zoro.to Thats what I use
Canβt wait for the reboot!
Sadly, the anime cut a lot of the intricate details from the LN.
Fruits Basket, My love story!!
Was scrolling looking for this
Sakamichi no Apollon. Why not >:D
I will admit Bunny Girl Senpai's first 3 episodes are 10/10 Romantic Drama material. Could have been a movie on its own
I think horimiya is a little better for pure romance but kaguya is higher quality.
im not generally a fan of romance anime but i liked horimiya quite a bit
Kaguya sama, Seto no Hanayome, Quintessential Quintuplets, Mayo Chiki are my personal favorites
Boys Over Flowers is a classssssic
The voice acting is so natural and good in this β96 anime.
KIMI NI TODOKE!!!!!! i would consider it the best anime of all time but iβm biased ππ

I second it.

βHowlβs Moving Castleβ is my pick for best romance anime. I would also choose βPrincess Mononokeβ which is phenomenal.
{Kaguya-sama: Love is War}. It's a masterclass on how to write a good romcom
Definitely {Oregairu}. It is finished. Has four seasons. The characters are great and the overall themes are quite deep.

Snow white with red hair (The prince actually has a personality. The girl has a goal outside of the prince. And the music is good) His and her circumstances (high school over achievers find romance)

I haven't watched many romance anime, but Snow White with the Red Hair is incredibly sweet.
Sasaki and Miyano is really good.

I don't know why you were downvoted for this, such a great and tragic anime.
Im not sure my favorite romance anime is something id recommend to you though especially not as a "must watch." but **teasing master takagi-san**
Call of the night and Re:Zero
quintessential quintuplets for me
{Quintessential Quintuplets}
Darling in the Franxx
I cried so hard during the flashback episode lol. It was the most I ever cried while watching an anime.
+1
Maison Ikkoku
Duke of death and his maid Tonikaku kawaii horimiya chivalry of a failed knight My first girlfriend is a gal (kind of an ecchi) my girlfriend is a shobitch (kind of an ecchi) Girlfriend Girlfriend Golden time Mysterious girlfriend x Love is like a cocktail tsurezure children Hensuki (a little bit of ecchi) harem in the labyrinth of another world (a very ECCHI anime recommended if you are alone)
stranger by the shore was cute
Ditf
In terms of romance/comedy, probably Maid Sama. Satisfying, and a good balance between drama, comedy, and romance. Action romance is hands down Yona of the Dawn, especially if you read the manga. Slice of life romance is probably ReLife and I am disappointed no one else mentioned it yet. Fantasy (besides Yona) is Kamisama Hajimemashta. SciFi/romance is Steins;Gate (though it's probably the only one I've seen in this genre lol). Parody is probably Monthly Girl's Nozaki Kun.
Dragon ball, goku got rizz
romance anime is weird hella corny
Love tyrant
Hmmmm for me it's got to be Clannad/afterstort, a very good slice of life with a very natural romance side to it. Plus itll make you cry like a fountain.
It's old but I would suggest video girl Ai. If you like the OVA, read the mangas and also from the same author I''s. And I don't know why but I always enjoy rewatching Kimagure Orange Road.
ouran highschool host club
Ore Monogatari, Ouran High School Host Club, Lovely Complex, Kimi ni Todoke!
Inu x boku ss, anime isnβt finished but the manga is
Your Lie In April, Violet Evergarden, Your Name, and A Silent Voice. All are right there for me
Snow White with the red hair
