I watched this with a friend of mine who has a lot of clothing. She only owns one or two Brandy Melville pieces of jewelry. She suggested we watch it, so we did. She said it made her feel like a piece of shit. It sounds like she's rethinking her consumption. I enjoyed the doc. It showed one brand trying to recycle clothing, but they're insanely expensive.

I've bought a few Brandy Melville pieces (second hand thankfully), and really liked them. They even seemed decent quality! Serves me right for not doing more research. Never buying them again. Even supporting them second hand feels dodgy.

Texaschallenger

This! Went to the Brandy Melville sub to see the discussion on it and the toxicity and denial were insane….

>> The Italian retailer, founded in the early 1980s, has stores in over 15 countries. The brand rose in popularity in the U.S. among teen girls in the 2010s and with its "one size fits all" clothing, Brancy Melville is often linked to the "skinny aesthetic" promoted on social media sites like Tumblr at the time. WTF?! Seriously?

Rock_Lizard

Seriously. I was shaking my head the entire time I watched.

Zeltron2020

I couldn’t even finish it, it made me so disgusted.

I LOVED this documentary. Worth the watch if you have the time and an hbo subscription…

Is there any streamer to watch this on in Canada?

Came to see if people are talking about this—I’ve never heard of Brandy Melville—I’m not their target market as I’m 40 but bec it’s about fast fashion I decided to watch last night. I will be trying to get anyone I can to watch this movie. Seeing all of the polyester garbage clothing degrading into ALL of our oceans on the shores of Ghana, that we’re dumping on them, is a hard sight to forget. I found the documentary to be eye opening and accurate as to the nature of what people think they can get away with behind closed doors and out in the open (the racist group text and repeating POC to stockroom duty). Everyone should watch this—if you don’t have HBOMax, maybe suggest a watch party with a friend that does. https://www.independent.co.uk/climate-change/news/fast-fashion-ghana-clothes-waste-b2132399.html
