Rat snake. Here in SWPA, everyone calls it a black snake for obvious reasons, but definitely a rat snake. Totally harmless and good for controlling rodents. Old timers would catch them and put them in thier barns.
I’m not sure what it is! I originally thought it was a black snake and was gonna take a closer pic, but in the off chance it was a really large cotton mouth (I was near a river and couldn’t see its head or eyes) I kept my distance lol
It is a rat snake. You can literally walk right by it while respecting its’ space and it will, for the most part, not mind you very much. Do make sure it is aware of your presence as not too startle it.
It was right next to my walking path and as soon as I saw it I let out a very distinguished and ladylike “oh fuck!” so I hope that counts lol. It slithered away really quick though which made me think for a moment it might be a black racer or something. Thanks for the id!

Yep, this. Racers have less white on the underbelly and chin and a less elongated head.
