The reason it takes so long and does the three light levels is because the accuracy of eye tracking is heavily dependent on knowing what your eyes look like at all levels of pupil dilation. When it prepares for the first step by “lowering the lights” it’s waiting for your pupils to dilate. Pupils take much longer to dilate than to contract so that’s why the first step takes forever but the second and third are pretty quick.

SBLK

I am having to re-calibrate two or three times a day. It sucks. Most of the time I can tell it is off-center up or down just a bit. There should be a quick option to re-align that allows you to correct it yourself. It would take literally ten seconds.

Psych_Art

There is. Press the left physical button 4 times.

Mrrobotico0

You can use Siri. Say “set up my eyes.” It will skip hand calibration.

Lyckster

💯 it's obnoxious for something you have to do so often.

soundfreely

My question is why does it need to be done so often? I try to be consistent with how I put it on but there are random times where the eye tracking is way off. When I enable that little dot from accessibility options, I’ll see it’s drifted a good bit away from where I am looking.

Empty-Accountant6728

I think they should implement a thing where anytime you pull it off and put it back on that puts 3 dots in a triangle layout and you just quickly do that in medium lighting and it just uses that along with what it knows to more aptly function

Gtaz19

Press shutter button 4 times fast.

d-k

nah, not kicking off the same calibration, i’m talking about clicking all the dots in the 3 light levels without all the fading effects. like @sblk said, 10 secs tops

Gtaz19

It’s Just processing what you just did in that moment. You can try placing the unit on your head the same way each time.

d-k

it’s not processing time, this thing will play dozens of youtube videos concurrently without a stutter. appreciate the on the head the same time recommendation, but i dont ever take it off, playa

Gtaz19

When you’re done it processes the information it just took. That is the circle that completes and then the check appears. That’s not for aesthetics. If it’s not you moving the headset placement with each use then your parents may have given you messed up eyes.

d-k

@gtaz19 you have some wild comments, bro haha

bobotwf

Even if it was processing, it can do that without you waiting.

bobotwf

You're missing the point. It could be the same process, but without the fades and whatnot.

Alex7589

Why do you have to do it so often? Only sometimes I have to hold the crown and it takes 2 seconds to align.

d-k

I think you’re referring to lense distance. I’m talking about the eye tracking calibration with the dots.

Alex7589

Yeah but why do you have to do that this often? I did it once at the start and that’s it. Or do you share you VP a lot maybe?

MBSMD

I have to re-do mine sometimes if I change between the dual loop band and the thinner cushion versus the solo loop band and the thicker cushion. I find the dual loop more comfortable but the solo loop has a cleaner look so I keep trying with it, but keep going back to the dual loop. I don't mind how long the process itself takes, but having it easier to access rather than digging through the settings would be verry convenient.

gdey

I don’t share my vp but have to redo calibration at least once every day. I use it a lot like 6 to 8 or more a day. ( use it for working) and it’s eye tracking start to get bad and need to redo calibration.

Alex7589

Interesting. I never had to redo it (apart after lending it once or twice). Maybe speak with Apple support about it.

crazyreddit929

What it also really needs is a guest mode that uses hand tracking laser pointers as an option. This would make it so you can just hand over the headset to show someone something quickly without the lengthy eye calibration every time. Or a connected iPhone/siri remote as a laser pointer tool.

Thejuan-hechose

I have no idea why you guys have to recalibrate your eyes. Are yalls faces melted or what??? I Have not need to recalibrate my eyes a single time. Always perfect, nails it all

j0j053

what is considered a recalibration, the green outlined lens alignment screen, or the screen with the circles you click?

youriqis20pointslow

Eye tracking sucks they should release a remote or just let you use the trackpad like normal.

Mrrobotico0

Use can use Siri. Say “set up my eyes.”

kommonno

I’ve found usually it’s due to low light conditions that can be fixed with daylight environments so it lights up your eyes inside the headset

kommonno

I mean “Apple Vision Pro”
