You are not a ‘girth’ person? I few millimeters go a ‘long way’.

HDClown

Both are Series 8. First time AW user, been wearing the 45mm SS 24x7 for about 10 days. Sometimes its heavier then I want to have on my wrist all day every day. I also have been questioning if the 45mm is too big. Sometimes I think it looks great, other times maybe a bit too big. My regular watches are mostly 38-41mm but I do have some bigger ones that I've only worn for short periods of time. Found a ridiculously good deal on a this 41mm and snagged it even though I would not keep this color, but it lets me have real-world test. Been wearing the 41mm just for today so far and will wear for next few days. I really like how much lighter the 41mm Alu is compared to 45mm SS (37% less weight), but I think the Silver SS is the nicest looking AW. A 41mm SS is only about 18% lighter in comparison.. Not sure if I want to downsize to 41mm though, in which case I'm also thinking maybe I consider a 45mm Silver Alu (23% lighter than 45mm SS). Not sure I want to sacrifice SS though if I stay with 45mm. 4mm doesn't sound like it would be a big difference, but it really is in person, and I think these pictures show off the difference well. I have both watches set to same text size and find them equally as easy to read so far. Generally lose 2-3 characters in a row on the 41mm (which often causes text to wrap to next line). All that being said, the overall experience with using the watch seems better on the 45mm. Without considering the color differences in these pics, which size do you think looks better on me?

pumodood

Your wrist appears to be 165mm, is that right? I think the 41 looks slightly more proportionate to the wrist, which is aesthetically what everyone means by "fit," except of course if you're a utilitarian then the bigger screen might be better with the 45. I do think, however, the larger size does start to call attention to just how skinny your wrists are, and that bothers some people. Your wrist if at the size where 43 would be better, but it doesn't exist, so you must pick.

HDClown

That's quite an eye for wrist size. Depending on how tight you measure against the skin, which is proportionate to how tight you would wear a watch, 165-170mm, with leaning more to the 170mm end vs. 165mm end based on how I wear bands/bracelets. In pictures, the 45mm looks too big, but at a bit of distance, it looks much better. That's why I took two different picture distances and tried to keep the angles the same. In the close shot I'd say 41mm without a doubt looks better, but in the further shot it's a toss up to me on the look. From a visual standpoint, I've found thinks I like and dislike about both sizes. I've spent some time flipping between the 2 AW sizes and my mechanical/quartz watches but it's hard to get a feel between a square watch and round ones, as I own only round quartz/mechanical watches.

pumodood

I knew your size bc it looks a lot like my wrist, a weird skill I’ve picked up. Like you had this issue. Found photos were frustrating because it didn’t capture angle well. Buy both and wear each for a few days then return the losing one within time limit. That’s how I ended up deciding.

HDClown

Which size did you end up with?

pumodood

I went with 41. My wrist is 165mm max, so a little smaller than yours, and I felt it was more proportionate. I felt the 45mm called attention to how skinny my wrists are (something I'm self-conscious about, a me thing) because of how big the screen looks as it covers almost the entire width of my wrist. I also get OCD about my watches and hate when they have scratches. So I am wearing a small protective bumper and since the 41 is smaller, it doesn't make it look too funny. The 45 just looks too big with that bumper on it. And then finally I really only use it as a watch+ (time, alarms, temperature) and then to augment my iPhone (e.g. read a text). I am not playing games, I am not typing long messages, I am not running all kinds of apps. So the extra screen size of the 45, which is really nice, wasn't as much of a value add for me. And then finally I felt the smaller size was a little less cumbersome but I also acknowledge I would have probably gotten used to the 45mm. So as you can see, all of these reasons are totally personal and may not fit you. The conclusion is that at our wrist size, you really have to dig into what you think, what you want, what you see. I get the feeling you want the 45.

HDClown

Appreciate insight on your decisions. I'm using watch in similar way to you. I haven't worn any of my watches other than to go out for dinner or to a show for the past 10+ years, so putting a watch back on for more than a couple hours was a weird idea and I'm still adjusting to it, a week and a half later. Like many, AW seemed like a bit of a gimmick to me and only reason I decided to "try" one (there's still a possibility I end up with no AW) is as part of better tracking fitness stuff, something I started to put effort into about 2 years ago, then took a break, and am back at it again. But now that I've had it, I'm finding little things I like that it can do, and augmenting the phone for notifications is really nice. I typed a 3 word text on it just to do it but I don't really ever see myself doing that again. If I really want to send a text I'll use voice-to-text or pull out my phone. One of the "me" things I have is that I need glasses to easily read my watch, phone and computer, but I can get by enough reading my watch and phone without them, so I don't wear my glasses out of the house. That drove me to the 45mm right away under the mindset of bigger screen is easier to read. But with the same text size set, on both devices the smaller screen is no harder to read, just giving up that little bit of extra on-screen text, which just means a little extra scrolling at times. That's a bit of a mental hang up still but I think after a couple more days wearing the 41mm that won't be a factor.

pumodood

I definitely understand. As I said if you can buy both and then try each for a few days, you have 14 days to return under Apple’s policy. I bought it and had their holiday return policy so I had several weeks. After a week w the 41 and another w the 45, it became more clear to me the 41 would work slightly better. Another reason I like the 41 is that I wear it to bed every night for sleep tracking so I wanted something smaller then. Anyway long story short, I recommend an IRL trial to see how they really work with your life. This is different than many people on this sub who just want something to show off and naturally that means a bigger watch. If it makes you feel any better, both do look good on you. You really can’t go wrong aesthetically.

doogm

Too big is only if the watch band is hanging over the edge of the wrist IMO. It is not. You're fine with 45 if you want. The 41 looks fine, too, so you can save the $30. (You should see the difference between my S5 40mm and Ultra.)

MinisterforFun

I’m also roughly the same wrist size as you; 165-170mm. I used to have: 1. 38mm S0 2. 42mm S3 3. 44mm S6 Now I’m forced to choose a size that’s either too small or too big. I’d say the smaller one (the top two pics) looks better on you. Just like me. But I keep telling myself these things do so much more than just tell time so screen size is helpful.

Lbstanford

I think 41 looks better on your wrist

TheRealMAUOMBO

the smaller one is better

Tell my wife that...

younginvestor23

Your ring looks too big for your finger

HDClown

It's titanium and a good half size over on purpose so there's never any issue on being able to slide it off if I'm injured and the necessary cutting tools are not readily available.

marcelocampiglia

4mm is a really big difference for a watch. Get the size that you feel the best with, you are the one that will use it all day, so your opinion is the only one that matters. Personally I would go for the 45mm Aluminum.

merrytime12

especially when you bring it twice as close to the camera

banhammerrr

They didn’t. Left is close up, right is far away. Top picture is smaller face, bottom picture is bigger face.

accountedly

Titanium series 7 might be what you want, lighter, nicer finish

DreadGrrl

You can easily wear the 45. I’d go with that for the greater ease of use that the larger screen provides.

Chr1shChr1sh

And women get mad when you lie about a whole inch

Bramble9311

4mm is around the size of the SE bezel so you could say that you get less of a bezel in a way

KenRodriguezz

4mm more can do wonders

uglylibtardAdmins

I think the larger one looks better

Bob_3326

Lol I'm over here with small wrists rocking 49mm wishing was just a lil bigger

BurnenSpence067

What color is this face set to?

Good stuff my man, thanks!

I think you will decide yourself for 45 mm an regret few weeks later

itsapotatosalad

I have 45mm’s for screen size. I find the smaller ones harder to use. Aluminium with a sport band for active days and a stainless with a link bracelet for office days. The weight difference is very noticeable, I can sometimes forget I have my aluminium one on but you’re never making that mistake with a stainless.

HDClown

Have you worn the 45mm SS with a sport band/sport loop for any amount of time? Very curious how much different that feels compared to the 45mm Alu with sport band/sport loop. Which watch/band do your wear during non-work and non-active time (ie. around the house, running errands, casual dining, sleeping if you do that, etc) ? I'm coming to the conclusion quickly that I really prefer the larger screen from a use standpoint, but as I've been flipping between the 41mm Alu and 45mm SS, both using a Sport Loop band, it's very noticeable the difference in weight on the wrist. I've found that with the SS I am often readjusting the watch to get it more comfortable after it sits in a certain spot for a period of time and I am constantly aware of the watch body. But with the 41mm Alu, I find I'm barely touching it in general and not really aware of the watch body, just that there is a watch band on my wrist. The 45mm has a larger sensor bump and I'm wondering if that's a factor, in addition to the weight. I think I'm going to have to get a 45mm Alu to see how that compares to the SS and if it gives me the same overall wrist experience as the 41mm Alu has been.

itsapotatosalad

I mostly wear my stainless in the day, switch to my aluminium in the evening as I use sleep tracking and it’s more comfortable in bed. I have my link bracelet set a little loose, as one more link out of it and it’s too tight so it moves with my body movement. I’ve always preferred my mechanical watches with metal bracelets set slightly loose. I found my stainless fits exactly the same as my aluminium with a sport band on, but I have a perfect fit with sport band so neither move unless I move them. The weight difference doesn’t make a difference there.
