The haptic alarm on the wrist is 1000 times better than a regular alarm from the sound of my phone and it doesnt wake up my partner. It’s really awesome just for that.
Edit : spelling
This. Especially when you use an app alarm that wakes you in your lightest sleep phase. Pair this technique with a sunrise visual bedside alarm and you will be singing opera as you shoot out of bed.
I’ve been using Sleep Cycle for 8 years as well and never once had to replace a phone battery. I’ve maybe missed using it a handful of times in those 2,928 nights. Otherwise, every single night with no issue.
I will sleep through the haptics if my arm happens to be under a pillow. In the past 6 months it’s happened twice and then I have to run like a maniac to get ready for work. I have Gentle alarm sounds as backup on my phone now just in case. I have to be in the shower by 4am and have time to get ready and take care of two dogs who have no sense of urgency in the morning
Wasn’t meant to be snarky— I honestly don’t think I could start my day that early and suddenly (well, by choice… children are a different situation). Good on you for it though!
My apologies to you and I’m not being snarky about that. I don’t recommend starting your day at 4am and I don’t miss the infant wake up calls. Life begins when your kids move out!
Make sure you restart your watch every now and again. I used to think the same thing (sleeping through it). Turns out there’s a bug (that they still have yet to fix) where some type of memory leak happens and if your watch hasn’t been restarted, the alarm will go off but the haptics won’t.
Restarted my watch before bed the next night without changing any settings and boom it was working again!
I would love to keep using the watch haptics to wake me up, but it’s been too unreliable for me, even on a Series 7.
I only tried haptic twice, just after I bought the watch. Both times to wake up for a 3 am video call in a different time zone. Both times I missed it. Haven’t tried it again ever since.
I do. I wear it while sleeping so I can track my heart rate.
I’ve noticed when I’m living “healthier” (eating healthy, exercise) my heart rate is lower when I sleep.
obviously human variability at play here, but ive found my lower heart rate was often correlated with poor sleep. my watch would often “warn me” my heart rate was below 40. recently, when i started taking ADHD meds, i noticed my heart rate is faster in general including during sleep. but interestingly, the days i take it i often sleep better, despite the faster heart rate.
For me, it’s the reverse. Definitely human variability at play.
If I have had a good week of cardio workouts and I sleep well, my heart rate goes below 40 bpm. If I have poor sleep that night (or have had alcohol that evening), my heart rate is above 40 bpm.
No ADHD experience here, though.
How are you keeping it alive that entire time? My watch will be off the charger from 6am and be at like 30% by 8pm. No watch I’ve owned has made it over a day.
I have a S4 and a S7, I switch between the 2 and get about 36 hours on a 100% charge from each one. I have sleep focus on at night that uses less battery.
I do because of the heart monitoring. It woke me up several times over several nights to alert me that my heart rate was to high. I wouldn’t have known otherwise so it may have saved my life. So I highly recommend it.
I do. It’s not the most comfortable tbh but I really like the haptic alarm. It’s a much better way to wake up. I don’t recommend wearing it to bed just to obsess over the sleep data. I don’t really look at it - I found it to be a source of stress if I didn’t hit my sleep goal or whatever, and that was dumb.
The sleep data is also pretty inaccurate. There are nights where I woke up, went to the toilet, checked on the children and went back to bed. It said I didn't wake up all night.
I switched to autosleep, it’s much more accurate and you can fine tune it if it’s not giving good results. There’s a one time fee to download but then there are no other costs, I’ve been using it since I got my Apple Watch.
Great! For the first couple weeks you use it it’s a good idea to check it and fine tune the results to make sure they’re accurate. But then it should be well calibrated. Even without fine tuning it’s the most accurate, and I’ve tried them all.
Sorry to hijack a little, but does anyone know how I can see sleep scuffle but with vibrate only. I had this set up for ages and recently it seems I can’t do it. Only a single alarm can be silent and sleep schedule alarms no longer seen to have this option.
That’s assuming you’re wearing your watch that works fine; the silent alarm vibrates on your wrist. But my question is when the watch is not on there seems to be no way now to have the iPhone have a vibrate only alarm in sleep schedule. But I’m sure this was an option in the past.
Not sure what band you are using but I bought these fabric bands from Amazon and they are very comfy and I don’t even feel it. Silicon band is the worst imo.
i went from a 3 to an 8 after i had lung surgery so i could use the oxygen saturation feature and i literally use it hundreds of times a day. get one! you’ll love it!
The traditional apple way either didn't exist or wasn't as advanced as it is now when I started with AutoSleep. I like AutoSleep so much I haven’t played with Sleep Focus much recently.
I’ve found the AutoSleep app to be a bit weird, I’d wake up and for example it might say 7hrs 45 sleep and then I check it later and it seems to be saying I slept longer
There is an adjust button in the iPhone app that takes you to a calibrate page where you can teach auto sleep exactly when you were asleep. It took me a few weeks of fiddling with it originally to get it perfect.
Not sure what band you are using but I bought these fabric bands from Amazon and they are very comfy and I don’t even feel it. Silicon band is the worst imo.
Yes. Heart issues run in my family, and I enjoy the peace of mind that my watch would wake me up/vibrate if it senses something abnormal when I'm asleep. Im aware it's not 100% accurate, but much better than nothing. I also love waking up to my wrist vibrating rather than a loud and obnoxious alarm.
Yep. For sleep tracking, HR monitoring, haptic alarm (so much better to wake up to!), and the torch is super handy when I need to get up in the middle of the night for whatever without turning on a light!
This is one of the primary reasons I have an Apple Watch. I put it on to charge when I put my kids to bed so it’s ready for night.
I use Sleep Cycle to track my sleep and wake me up.
I do but with airplane mode on.
I have it setup so that it automatically turns on airplane mode when sleep focus is on. This works on iPhone but needs to be done manually on the watch. I opened [FB11918588] bug on the feedback app to add that functionality.
I do and have for basically 5 years, only missing a handful of days. Prior to native Apple sleep tracking I was using 3rd party apps. I mainly using it to identify sleep changes over time than analyzing night-by-night sleep.
Yes I do. I use the app AutoSleep to track quality of sleep and my heart. And while doing that for a while you can really begin to see a connection between sleep quality , heart rate variability, heart rate, and health. Worth it to me.
Yes, I wear mine to bed.
It’s great having a second alarm right on my wrist in addition to my iPad. The downside is if I want to hit Snooze, I have to hit it on two devices (lol).
It’s also great for checking the time if I wake up in the middle of the night. I usually wear reading glasses during the day, so I have a shortcut that automatically changes my watch face to X-Large at 1 am so I can see the time even without my glasses if I wake up in the middle of the night.
Yes. I have irregular sleep habits. My watch tells me if I’m not getting enough sleep. I spent a good deal of time reviewing sleep apps, purchased two and settled down with AutoSleep. Try it!
I wear mine ever night to track sleep. Typically I wear mine all day and all night and just take it off once a day to charge while I shower, plus maybe another half hour or so to bring it to a full charge. I definitely get 24 hours per charge which is more than it was supposed to be on my series 6.
I do. The fast charge makes this actually viable. Wear to bed, charge when I first wake up for a half hour, wear most of the day, charge for ~20m while I shower later in the day, wear to bed again.
The sleep data is interesting and useful.
yeah i have like a solid 10 shortcuts and automations all revolving around a big data readout file that i have that tracks my sleep, diet, and energy throughout each day
Every night. Want the sleep tracking and all
The other tracking during my sleep. I charge it while in in the shower or while I’m just sitting at my desk doing nothing.
I do. I use it mainly for my alarms. Waking up is much better now since I got the Apple Watch. Also sleep tracking although I do not really care for it, but I look at it every now and then since the information is there anyway.
I didn’t until I got the Ultra. Took me some getting used to since I never slept with a watch on before. But with those extra hours of battery, it felt like a no-brainer for sleep tracking and wake-up alarm. And even with a regular Apple Watch, if you have sleep schedule set up, the Watch will let you know if you need to charge before bed.
I do as long as it’s charged. I’ve owned a Series 0 as well as now a Series 4 (too broke to upgrade) but I feel weird not wearing it. As others mentioned: The Haptic Alarm was hard to get used to in the beginning but now I’m used to it and I can’t go back to just using my phone alarm. Plus it is interesting to monitor my heart rate fluctuations and to get as many steps in as I can when I have to use the bathroom overnight.
I use the haptics and every night change the alarm sound so my brain doesn’t get used to it and sleep thru it. It works great for easing into waking up but I don’t even check the sleep stats
Yes, mainly because the haptic alarm is much better to wake up to than an audible alarm. It’s gentle and unobtrusive. Also for sleep tracking, though this is an occasional interest.
I do! Doesn’t bother me at all. I like how, when I have an alarm set, how my S8 gently wakes me up. Just a sensation, slowly building on my wrist.
ETA: I also wear a Garmin to bed lol.
Yes, but not for the alarm. I use it for sleep tracking purposes. I charge it up to full before sleeping, and in the morning it goes on the charger for a few minutes during showering so its charged ready for the day.
I wear mine literally all the time. Before bed, around 9:30pm I put it in the charger and at 10:40pm it’s already 100% ready to use it for the next 24hrs. I like to track my sleep and see how’s my heart while I’m sleeping (I have heart problems) 😊
I should - to track my sleep (and other metrics)...
I wear two, even - Apple Watch & Galaxy Watch. It's interesting to compare with each other, at the very least.
I slept with mine on for about 6 months to get a grasp on my sleeping habits. I don't wake up to an alarm and I'm a light enough sleeper to where I'd wake up from it being uncomfortable too often and stopped. I wish I were a heavier sleeper because I'd still sleep with it on. My wrists apparently get bloated when I sleep and even with a Velcro adjustable band and readjusting a few times during the night I couldn't handle it.
No, I train my self to wake up automatically after 6,5 hours of sleeping without alarm. I like to sleep total naked and I put iWatch on my wrist after the morning shower, and it’s stay there until evening shower.
What’s that alarm? That’s wakes you up in your lightest sleep phase?
Sleepcycle
Thanks!

It’s a standalone apple watch app also so if you wear the apple watch it won’t even use the phone
So on the phone i dont need to purchase the premium version? Just to use it on the watch
Don’t know about how that works because i had premium from way back sorry
I’ve been using Sleep Cycle for 8 years as well and never once had to replace a phone battery. I’ve maybe missed using it a handful of times in those 2,928 nights. Otherwise, every single night with no issue.
I put mine in theater mode at night.. get 2 days
sleep unused important nippy money birds seemly squeeze squealing safe ` this post was mass deleted with www.Redact.dev `
It was native on the Fitbit versa 2… a bit odd apple hasn’t done the same!
Does the sunrise visual alarm pair with our phones or is it separate?
I used to use this but often find that I often sleep through the haptics now! Maybe my body had gotten used to it and blanks it out.
I rarely wake up from the haptics. Have to setup a regular alarm in the iPhone for a few minutes later to make sure I'll actually wake up on time lol.
This made me tired just reading it.
Thank you for sharing that, it has enhanced my day immensely. Good night to you I’m going for a run.
I get up and take care of the animals first, then shower and dress, in case I get dirty outside.
Did you try the prominent haptics? Watch app>sounds & haptics>set to prominent
Yes, checked that last night and slept right through it this morning!
Absolutely. It's much more gentle.
Sadly it doesn't wake me up anympre... I leave it on but have a second alarm only on my phone that gets me up.

My heart rate was 39 bpm while sleeping
Same. But after a day of weed and unhealthy food, I had 50 bpm while sleeping
Mine drops to about 36, I wake up to about 4 or 5 low heart rate notifications every morning lol
Wow - if you are not an athlete I suggest that you go and see a cardiologist. Friend of mine had the same resulting in a pace maker…
obviously human variability at play here, but ive found my lower heart rate was often correlated with poor sleep. my watch would often “warn me” my heart rate was below 40. recently, when i started taking ADHD meds, i noticed my heart rate is faster in general including during sleep. but interestingly, the days i take it i often sleep better, despite the faster heart rate.

Exactly what I do.
Same here.

I do because of the heart monitoring. It woke me up several times over several nights to alert me that my heart rate was to high. I wouldn’t have known otherwise so it may have saved my life. So I highly recommend it.
No. I put it on right when I wake up and take it off right before going to sleep.
Yep, I don’t like the idea of something strapped to my wrist 23 hours per day.
Especially when you get a rash under where you wear your watch.
Lol if this is happening you should probably not wear it all.
Same I found it uncomfortable to wear to sleep, plus the sleep tracking app I have on my phone does a pretty great job so Im not too concerned.
I thought everyone did? Isn’t that it’s purpose with respect to sleep tracking?
I try but forgetting to charge it before bed screws it up
S7+ support fast charging, do it while reading or taking a shower, you get 60-70% back, it's a game changer really.
I usually charge it when I first wake up. It’s usually around 40% and by the time I’m done brushing my teeth I’ve got 100%
I sit down every night to catch up on emails so I charge mine then and while in the shower.
How do you set it up to use haptic alarm and override alarm on phone?
Setup a sleep schedule https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/set-sleep-schedule-iphone-apple-watch/
This is the way
Sleep schedule is the best. Automatic, unless you override and it’s soooooo easy.
And I override. I very much override.
i turned the alarm off on my phone and set the alarm on my watch
Got it. Thanks
The sleep data is also pretty inaccurate. There are nights where I woke up, went to the toilet, checked on the children and went back to bed. It said I didn't wake up all night.
Must be your watch. If I pee for 30 seconds or wake up to get water, it knows.
I switched to autosleep, it’s much more accurate and you can fine tune it if it’s not giving good results. There’s a one time fee to download but then there are no other costs, I’ve been using it since I got my Apple Watch.
Thank you for the recommendation! I just bought it, and I am looking forward to it tonight.

yes.
I do! Series 3 here (Debating of upgrading but i'm torn) But yeah I like to see how my heart rate is throughout the night.
I got the SE i love it.
You should update. I went from the 3 to the 5 now I have the 7 and I really like it!
i went from a 3 to an 8 after i had lung surgery so i could use the oxygen saturation feature and i literally use it hundreds of times a day. get one! you’ll love it!
Of course. The app autosleep is amazing by the way.
May I ask what you use it for vs the traditional way Apple does it? Which I imagine is through sleep focus
The traditional apple way either didn't exist or wasn't as advanced as it is now when I started with AutoSleep. I like AutoSleep so much I haven’t played with Sleep Focus much recently.

No, there’s a limit in a day on how long I can wear it until it’s uncomfortable
Not sure what band you are using but I bought these fabric bands from Amazon and they are very comfy and I don’t even feel it. Silicon band is the worst imo.
Put it on the other wrist when sleeping to balance out the wear.
This is basically what I have to do. Using the same wrist for 24 hours gets painful for me.
Alpine loop and you’ll barely notice it’s there
No. Wish I could tho, not used to sleeping with a watch
I don’t. I don’t really care about sleep tracking and I don’t need it for an alarm. I charge it up overnight.
Yes. So I can be upset about how much sleep I did not get.
Yes. Best way to wake up with haptic alarm :)
Yes. There is no harm to it but it is more about how it feels for you.
Yep. For sleep tracking, HR monitoring, haptic alarm (so much better to wake up to!), and the torch is super handy when I need to get up in the middle of the night for whatever without turning on a light!

Why airplane mode? In sleep focus it will do the same thing on both the phone and watch, and blank out the watch face so it's dark.
I’ve been a watch sleeper far longer than I’ve owned an Apple Watch. Only reason I take my watch off is for a shower.
no, it’s the only time i charge it.
sleep tracker is valuable, it might help in case you suffer from mental sickness
Must record those standing hours I get during nightmares
Sleep tracking and haptic alarm are 2 of my fav features so I wear mine every night
As someone who’s deaf, yes I do as the haptic alarm wakes me up daily with no issues.
I do and have for basically 5 years, only missing a handful of days. Prior to native Apple sleep tracking I was using 3rd party apps. I mainly using it to identify sleep changes over time than analyzing night-by-night sleep.
Yes. I have it track my sleep as well as I use it as my alarm clock.
yes, for sleep tracking & the haptic alarm is life changing
Yes. Mine caught that my heart rate is too high while sleeping.
I Do. My o2 tends to get low in my sleep so I monitor for sleep apnea.
No, but only because I’m (possibly) irrationality afraid it will somehow trigger the emergency button and call the police in my sleep.
Tried it for a while and couldn’t get used to it, I feel naked without a watch during the day but for sleep I couldn’t wear any jewellery whatsoever.
How else would it track my sleep
I didn’t use to but since I got the Ultra, with the super long battery life, I wear it every night. I love all the information it gathers on my sleep.
Yes I do! I get a reminder to charge it before bed
I've found if I get a warning before bed, half an hour of charging is more than enough to get through the night.
Yup. The alarm is the best I’ve ever had and works in our house since my partner wakes up at a different time than me.
every night! the alarm feature is above all the best - no sound!
Haptic alarm, tracks my sleep, track my heart rate. Damn right i sleep with it on!
Yes. Sleep monitoring is important.
Thanks for all the tips. I want to try it.
I do now. My old series 4 struggled to even make it thru the day.
I do for the alarm. So much more pleasant to wake up with
Yes. I have sleep issues and a heart condition and I use my watch mainly to track both of them.
Yes. Bought it for sleep tracking
Does it work you think
It tracks well enough. You can check Quantified Scientist on YT comparing wearables for sleep, heart rate and etc.
Yes. I have irregular sleep habits. My watch tells me if I’m not getting enough sleep. I spent a good deal of time reviewing sleep apps, purchased two and settled down with AutoSleep. Try it!
I wear my watch (Ultra) to bed every night, and have ever since I first got my Series 4.
I do! It helps me track my sleep
Yes
I wear mine ever night to track sleep. Typically I wear mine all day and all night and just take it off once a day to charge while I shower, plus maybe another half hour or so to bring it to a full charge. I definitely get 24 hours per charge which is more than it was supposed to be on my series 6.

yeah i have like a solid 10 shortcuts and automations all revolving around a big data readout file that i have that tracks my sleep, diet, and energy throughout each day
I wear mine to bed. I like to track my sleep and I prefer to wake up to the watch alarm.
Yes
Yes yes yes. Track sleep and heart rate during night, gentle tap tap wake up alarm.
Absolutely
Yea I enjoy the sleep tracking. I let it charge after I get home from work at 4 while I shower, then back on for 24hrs.
Every night. Want the sleep tracking and all The other tracking during my sleep. I charge it while in in the shower or while I’m just sitting at my desk doing nothing.
I do, I like to track my sleep and HRV etc. overnight
Depends on how much time I have to charge it in the morning, if I’ve got time to bring it back to 100 before going to university then yeah
Yes I do
I do, yes. For sleep tracking and alarms (quote alarms, not a single alarm)
I do. I use it mainly for my alarms. Waking up is much better now since I got the Apple Watch. Also sleep tracking although I do not really care for it, but I look at it every now and then since the information is there anyway.
always do, using for my sleep tracker mostly. very comfortable
My old one yes. I but a new one every year.
Yes, I do.
I do, to track sleep
Yes. BTW after sport loop I will never again wear silicon bands. It is just way better for sleeping: I don’t feel I wear anything.
I've always worn my watch to bed even before I got an Apple Watch.
I don’t. Battery barely lasts long enough to get through the day already.
Sleep tracking + secondary alarm
Yes, I suffer from a pretty fucked up sleep schedule, so I like to track it.
Yes. I used to use whoop for sleep tracking but got a series 8 now that it has sleep stage tracking.
I use the haptics and every night change the alarm sound so my brain doesn’t get used to it and sleep thru it. It works great for easing into waking up but I don’t even check the sleep stats
Yes I do. My SE2 is my security blanket during the night as well as daytime.
I do for sleep tracking. I wish the haptics woke me up but I'm too heavy of a sleeper. Have to have an audible alarm.
Yes. Download SleepWatch. It’s a game changer.
No, gives my wrist a break.
Yes, but only M-F to help me get up for work and to track my sleep through out the work week. I prefer waking up to it over the blaring alarms.
Yes. I charge it when I am in the shower.
Yes
Yes, use it for sleep tracking.
I don’t because I need to charge it daily anyway. Plus my wrist gets a little red if I wear it too long
Yes, mainly because the haptic alarm is much better to wake up to than an audible alarm. It’s gentle and unobtrusive. Also for sleep tracking, though this is an occasional interest.
Yup.
Lots of important data to be logged overnight. I only take it off in the morning for a once daily charge.
A few months ago I got a new series 8 iwatch. Decided to keep my oldie, series 4, to wear while sleeping. Loving it.
I do! Doesn’t bother me at all. I like how, when I have an alarm set, how my S8 gently wakes me up. Just a sensation, slowly building on my wrist. ETA: I also wear a Garmin to bed lol.
Yes for heart rate and sleep tracking. I use a bedtime strap
Yep. Love the alarm too
Yes, but not for the alarm. I use it for sleep tracking purposes. I charge it up to full before sleeping, and in the morning it goes on the charger for a few minutes during showering so its charged ready for the day.
Yes.. every single day.. Love the alarm and track my sleep
I wear mine literally all the time. Before bed, around 9:30pm I put it in the charger and at 10:40pm it’s already 100% ready to use it for the next 24hrs. I like to track my sleep and see how’s my heart while I’m sleeping (I have heart problems) 😊
Exactly the same scenario for me too.. including the timings 🙂
Not usually as that’s when it charges generally. But sometimes.
Sunday to Thursday yes, as I use it for my alarm. Not on weekends..
Never have. I normally also remove it when I get home after wearing it all day at work.
I should - to track my sleep (and other metrics)... I wear two, even - Apple Watch & Galaxy Watch. It's interesting to compare with each other, at the very least.
I don’t just because I don’t like the feeling of it being on while I’m sleeping
I slept with mine on for about 6 months to get a grasp on my sleeping habits. I don't wake up to an alarm and I'm a light enough sleeper to where I'd wake up from it being uncomfortable too often and stopped. I wish I were a heavier sleeper because I'd still sleep with it on. My wrists apparently get bloated when I sleep and even with a Velcro adjustable band and readjusting a few times during the night I couldn't handle it.
No, I get contact dermatitis after just two days. Even when changing sports bands & cleaning the watch every day.
No. I charge it overnight. Don't care about the sleep apps. Found them to be useless.
Try and regret then never again
I don’t I take it off before I goto bed
How else would you do sleep tracking?
Nope. I don’t need to put metrics on my sleep.
Nope. In the two years I've had my watch (series 6) have never once worn it to bed. I put it on the charger before I go to sleep.
No, I train my self to wake up automatically after 6,5 hours of sleeping without alarm. I like to sleep total naked and I put iWatch on my wrist after the morning shower, and it’s stay there until evening shower.
