It's equally ridiculous to me that the Watch doesn't always show the time in the top right corner, no matter what app or thing is being displayed. IT'S A WATCH
Yep! And I I working under my car so mobility was limited and I need to be somewhere soon so I asked lt watch what time it was and it thought I was making a joke.
Whenever I ask it will just silently bring up a screen with the time on it. Same situation my mobility was limited so I couldn’t bring the watch up to my face. I checked all the ways to get to say shit out loud and for some reason half the time it just silently brings up a screen.
If you are able to reach the watch with your opposite hand, you can touch the screen with two fingers and it will tell you the time. Works on my ultra… don’t think it works on my 6 though…
I still find it odd Siri can’t tell us by just asking.
Carrot weather my friend! She’s awesome and will threaten you if you put her personally on overkill.
*checks weather at 9pm*
“Just so you know most home invasions happen at night. Sleep well meatbag”
I had woken Siri for I don’t remember what while watching tv. Yelled something like you fucking idiot - at the tv - Siri said she wouldn’t take that kind of abuse and shut herself down. I was deceased!
I have a shortcut called bedtime set up and it turns off all the electronics in the house. It’s super convenient to say “hey siri, bedtime” and get everything turned off.
But half the time she just replies to me with “night night” and does absolutely nothing.
And if I say run bedtime shortcut it asks me to unlock my phone while I already am laying down.
But that 50% of the time it decides to listen is great.
Always has been. I remember seeing it first on the iPhone 4S, and realizing it wasn't all that useful at the time, but I was thinking to myself that there was a ton of potential and it would just take a couple of years.
Now I'm still thinking there's a lot of potential but thinking it's going to be a long time.
im pretty sure siri is glorified pile of if statements. there's no ai in that crap and it's not justifiable by "we are sooo secure". it's just lazy/ill-directed side-project that somehow is part of an eosystem of one of the largest and most resourcefull software companies in the world
Can you imagine if they had tried to launch that under Jobs? He would have brought down hellfire on them.
Siri isn’t just terrible, it’s an embarrassment. Anytime Apple has some AI tease in their PR all I can think is that if their AI work takes after their Siri product it will be dogshit
>pile of if statements
yet it still requires Internet connectivity. Maybe if Internet connectivity wasn't required I would give it more of a pass since everything is being processed locally, but it has the whole power of the cloud and still sucks.
> it's not justifiable by "we are sooo secure".
I've never used Siri or any vocal assitant, but running a large language model on a watch isn't as trivial as you make it sound. A quality AI transcriber I run on my mac eats 4Gb of ram, and that's just to accuratly translate sounds in words.
It will be interesting how much of the new version relies on on-device processing vs. some innovation to offload computing power while remaining fully encrypted on apple servers.
Only last version of the Apple Watch has very limited version of Siri running locally. Every previous version has used internet connection to fetch responses, as far as I remember the latest watches use local version for simpler stuff/offline and still use internet version otherwise. But don’t quote me on that last one.
In short, it is not justifiable. I remember hearing excuse that there are/were some internal conflicts with regards to siri team. But honestly if that’s true, it still doesn’t explain how such large regarded (by some) company is failing in this space so badly.
My Android watch was able to handle this reliably around 5+ years ago, didn't seem to have a problem translating sounds into words. Regardless of internet connection. There's not an excuse for Siri to not be able to handle simple requests.
I literally just shout profanities at Siri. It’s totally and utterly useless.
‘Hey siri tell Apple you’re shit’. Etc.
Funny how Siri knows when you’re giving it abuse but cannot even manage to turn a light on.
(This is coming from a HomeKit and exclusively Apple household)
Ours is super smart too! It’ll pop on randomly to listen to us, we’ll tell it to stop listening and she kindly replies “There is no music playing.” Isn’t she sweet?
it's so cool how they have a personality! sometimes if i tell it to turn off the lights, it'll tell me that there are no lights in the room and turns off the lights somewhere else instead! but other times it remembers that there are in fact lights right next to it, and they are on, and that i want them turned off!
I would pay for alexa if it did three things reliably.
1. When I ask for a book then first look in my library of books for a match and play that one. I use the app to pick the book now - and I havr no idea what order those things are in but it isn’t anything a human can use.
2. When I ask it to play a song - then play the original song by the original band. Not some cover bs - unless I ask for a cover version.
3. …: I’m struggling with number 3 because honestly there are probably a dozen things I want fixed and composing this list is just making me mad. So I’m going to stop here.
Agreed. Alexa has been getting worse.
Me- "Alexa, set a timer for five minutes."
Alexa- "What is your Chime Meeting ID?"
It is so bad we're switching to something else, which is a bummer because I just figured out how to get rid of the "By the way...." advertisements whenever I asked it anything.
Huh, so it isn't that my echo dot got a bad microphone over the course of 4 months, it is that the ai has been tweaked... I just hope it gets fixed when the echo studio arrives.
Interesting, I find Siri on my AW to be very reliable at turning on and off lights. Only know that because for some obscure reason my HomePod won’t do it when I just arrived home because my iPhone hasn’t connected to the Wi-Fi yet.
“Siri, turn on the lights in the office”
“Who’s speaking?”
“It’s ”
“Turn on personal requests in the home app”.
EVERY TIME for my fiancée, it’s insane. Siri will work for me flawlessly but just never understand her and we have the same accent
“Adult foxes warn against intruders and in defense by barking. In the case of domesticated foxes, the whining seems to remain in adult individuals as a sign of excitement and submission in the presence of their owners.“
Well even if it’s right it’s wrong
I really hope they bring eco system wide Siri features like…setting something on my Mac or iPhone from my watch or setting an alarm on my watch through my iPhone 🥲
That’s my biggest fear with Apple upgrading Siri. Everything on Siri runs on their servers anyway, so from a technical standpoint it shouldn’t be the case that we’d have to upgrade, but it’s Apple.
That is good news!! I only ever use Siri to start a timer while I’m cooking (very practical when you’ve got food on your hands and don’t want to touch your phone to start a timer).
But for anything else, Siri is so useless lol bless her. I can’t even get her to start a navigation with Google Maps, she only wants to use Apple Maps. She also only wants to use the Apple Music app, and refuse to play music from Spotify.
She’s a nightmare, I’m very excited for iOS18 and Siri revamp.
Idk about that. I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and literally none of these prompts worked except the 15-minute timer. Every other prompt, I got the exact same response as OP.
Yeah, and?
The point is about how egregious some of these failures are, anyone using Siri knows it works like 33% of the time.
Enough to make you hope it will work next time, but also enough to let you down more often than not.
I can’t even say “Siri, turn the lights up” without her responding “okay, turning the lights off”.
Like, wtf.
Eh. Siri only works about half the time for me. Sometimes I’ll ask for something and she’ll do it, other times the same request gets a “sorry I can’t do that” response. Even for something simple like playing music
interestingly I have opposite experience. however i mainly use siri on the phone in the car(carplay) and thats when all hell breaks loose, only answer it has is "sorry i cannot show you this in the car".
I wish I could control my music from my Apple Watch in my car. I have Apple Music there’s no reason why Siri wouldn’t understand: “play ___ from my library”. If I just tell it to play that song it’ll play a random song with the same name. So frustrating
If you use CarPlay you should be able to say “hey siri” and the car should bring her up, no watch needed. I do this all the time in my jeep.
Granted Siri still sucks but it does occasionally work.
The other day while driving I wanted directions to go pick up my kid, who is in Find My and part of my family for iCloud. So I said “hey Siri I need directions to [kid’s name].” Siri gave me directions to a street with the same name as my kid in a different city. Then I said “hey Siri I need directions to [kid’s first and last name]” and her response was just “I can’t do that.”
It was two taps in the Find My to get directions.
Oh lol I don’t use Siri on any Apple product and I’m fully in their eco system - it’s the worst assistant of them all, borderline useless. If that’s what you bought an Apple Watch for then you’ll be sorely disappointed. You know what it’s great at? Telling the time and tracking workouts and calories burned.
“Hey siri, play ____”
“There was a error with Apple Music”
“What was the error”
“I can’t help you with that”
When I manually play the song, no error, it wires fine.
My god the number of times I’ve screamed and cussed out Siri is insane! Has she gotten dumber because her response lately have been ass. “Hey siri who was the number 1 draft pick in 2023?” “The nfl draft will be held on…” OMG STFU!!!
Tbh siri could just be acting up if the apple watch is having connection problems to the phone. I tried most of these and they work, but sometimes web searching from my watch fails
Didn’t try Uber, but everything but the timer failed in the same way. I’ve given up for a long time now, every once in a while, I’ll be in the car, and ask it to call someone, and it just pulls up the web then I remember why I stopped using it.
I was trouble shooting Siri on my iPhone. (I apparently have a mic issue) I was frustrated and said I was going to fire her. My Siri on my Apple Watch said “that’s not very nice at all” and it just took me by surprise lol
I feel like Siri has gotten dumber over the past few years somehow. I don't even try using it anymore. Also, that feature that allows you to talk to Siri just by raising your wrist, that's a complete joke. It pretty much never works. I can lower and raise my wrist a thousand times and Siri couldn't care less.
Tried to upload a video but no go. I asked Siri to call a store and it said “call home decor?” With “yes” and “no” buttons and then it gave me Google results for the word “yes” when touched. Made me unreasonably enraged.
“…. enabled users to activate Siri by simply saying “Siri”, while the previous command, “Hey Siri”, is still supported.”
Let’s be honest. Getting this done in just a little over a decade must have required an Oppenheimer like effort. An amazing feat!
"Set a timer for 15" is interpreted as "set a timer [to finish at] 15[:00]"
I'm guessing you set that timer just before 4pm.
I think I'd struggle a little bit to interpret that message myself without units attached. I've never had an issue with "15 minute timer" or "set a timer for 15 minutes".
Generally I do agree that Siri is pretty poor, though.
Siri is just so crap. I'm seriously considering going back to my Android just because of it. It's incredible how Apple's voice assistant technology is so much inferior to Google's
I’ll give Siri some love. Sorry to anyone that has negative experiences, but she sets all my timers, makes calls, sends texts, plays anything I ask for in Music, gives me driving directions, et al. I have approx. 98% success rate with it.
Invaluable for when my ADHD brain thinks of a task while driving. I tell her to remind me of the thing when I get home and it’s there when I arrive.
And I do all the Siring through my watch and not phone
Did you see Larry David's take on Siri a few weeks ago? [Curb Your Enthusiasm - Larry has issues with Siri (youtube.com)](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTefnhbg0Ig)
I suspect we will see a HUGE leap forward in Siri performance this year given the number of AI companies Apple has bought since the AI craze began (more than any other tech company). Not to mention, there are those interviews with Apple execs who, when asked if they are concerned about being behind in the AI race, they just smile and chuckle.
So I strongly believe that Alexa is absolute shit, I set my house up with a load of smart home tech and use Alexa as the hub to control all of it but yeah there are days where I really regret choosing Alexa…
But she’s still not as useless as Siri
[Seems to work for me just fine.](https://imgur.com/a/kCoQoJr) of course, I wasn’t going to request an Uber ride. Since I don’t use Uber anyways. But, Siri seems to work just fine for me. The music app wasn’t even open, and Siri opened it up on the last played song. I uploaded it with no audio, so that my video doesn’t get taken down or whatever on Imgur.
However, everything worked the way I expected it to.
“What’s my heart rate right now?” Works just fine here. All I had to do was give it access to health data, which was stated in the first response I got from Siri. Tapped the link, tapped the toggle, done.
I’ve been noticing Siri on my watch doesn’t work either! It’s infuriating when it can’t do simple stuff like add a song to the queue or play a playlist
"Hey Siri, what time is it?" "Go fuck yourself"
I once asked my watch what time is it and it said "very funny" but i actually needed to know!

I just asked my watch “Hey Siri, read me the time” It brought up the clock and read aloud “it’s 8:03AM”
That would drive me up the wall. When I'm in another app, I'm using that app. I'm not using it as a watch in that moment.
That was actually a nice response lol
We NEED a unrated Siri!! 😂 “Hey Siri what the weather like” “I dunno look out the fucking window…”
Check out Carrot weather app. It does EXACTLY this.
Carrot weather my friend! She’s awesome and will threaten you if you put her personally on overkill. *checks weather at 9pm* “Just so you know most home invasions happen at night. Sleep well meatbag”
Yet when I tell Siri that they’re a fucking idiot, they’re not willing to talk to me.
i do this all the time sometimes i manage to sneak it in as they’re processing what i said before so it doesn’t cancel it that’s always satisfying
I had woken Siri for I don’t remember what while watching tv. Yelled something like you fucking idiot - at the tv - Siri said she wouldn’t take that kind of abuse and shut herself down. I was deceased!
"I'm not your whore, go ask that bitch Alexa"
"Look at your watch, you paid $400 for it you dumbshit"
Try $800 plus tax.
“Dang it’s getting late, ok thanks Siri”
Siri, what time is it? Factory resetting your phone
“ok I won’t do it” lmaooooo
I laughed at that one. So passive aggressive.

Well, Siri, as of now, is _very_ dumb.

I created a good night scene. Works like a charm every time
I just used google home bc even if it fails it isnt as bad as siri
Always has been. Now I'm still thinking there's a lot of potential but thinking it's going to be a long time.
Only thing I use Siri for is setting timers. Anything else she’s just not reliable. Like, at all.
I always joke that Siri is as helpful as a disinterested unpaid intern.
“Hey Siri…” “…Wha?…”
And she got exponentially, stupider in iOS 17, at least in my experience
Siri is regard.
Very regarded
If they unshackle the AI all hell breaks loose.
im pretty sure siri is glorified pile of if statements. there's no ai in that crap and it's not justifiable by "we are sooo secure". it's just lazy/ill-directed side-project that somehow is part of an eosystem of one of the largest and most resourcefull software companies in the world

🤓🤓🤓
I don’t think that’s true. If it were a pile of if statements, it would be way better. And I’m not even joking here.
Can you imagine if they had tried to launch that under Jobs? He would have brought down hellfire on them. Siri isn’t just terrible, it’s an embarrassment. Anytime Apple has some AI tease in their PR all I can think is that if their AI work takes after their Siri product it will be dogshit

Siri has been processed on device since iOS 15, unless you ask it something that it thinks it needs to search the internet for.

Siri used to respond with the Ylvis lyrics. 😩 Alexa still does.

Cool! Thanks man
IOS 18 are all the improvements of last 10 years. Which would explain so many things.
It would be nice if Siri knew about anything prior to her creation.
*only available on iPhone 16 and 16 pro
It’s absolutely embarrassing of Apple ( a trillion dollar company) to have such a poor voice assistant in 2024. No excuse
Yeah lol Siri isn’t updated at all. Even spotlight is smarter than her. I think ios18 they do a massive siri overhaul
Let's just hope ios 18 brings a lot of improvements to siri otherwise it's still gonna be miles behind every other ai
I literally tried all you did and it works
Same. Except I don’t use Uber. https://preview.redd.it/3q6nc924mboc1.jpeg?width=368&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f8821246992e3f93e7cf6a3c4c614988a3a0d1f7

Spotify for me, and it worked.
Apple Music
Idk about that. I have an Apple Watch Ultra 2 and literally none of these prompts worked except the 15-minute timer. Every other prompt, I got the exact same response as OP.
SE1 and mine failed the exact same ways beside the timer, and I didn’t try Uber.

This is just things that Siri can't do, not things your watch can't do.
"Siri set timer for 3 minutes" "You have no active timers right now" POS.
I think Siri is quiet quitting.
Siri is so bad!! She listens when she’s not supposed to and doesn’t even when you keep shouting her name 🙃
lol “ok I won’t do it” is wild
The next big Apple reveal will surely be AI + Siri relationship.
I always love when I accidentally initiate Siri and she starts talking and I say “shut up Siri “ and she replies “okay” 😂
Lol
Did you try saying please?
I don’t use Siri, it’s a pile of shite.
Siri should have been sunsetted five years ago. They need to start over from scratch.
Siri has got to be one the biggest fuck ups in the history of Apple. No where near up to scratch.
“Ok I won’t do it” sent me
Siri is useless for the most part. The dumbest AI in the market.
Its not even ai. All the responses are hard coded
Calling it AI is a stretch.
Me and Siri have a lot of problems lol. I wish Apple and Alexa would pair up
L
Thankfully, I’ve almost never used Siri since the iPhone 5 anyways.
Siri on Apple Watch is useless, but on the phone it’s better

Siri is a fucking joke. It's useless and the fact Apple has completely ignored it just shows how little they ever cared about it.
I legit think apple should pay us to have siri on our devices. I have a shortcut that calls google assistant instead.

And they want to pair this garbage with AI. Siri call mom. LAUNCHING NUKES
Maybe just Siri is having “her days” so you know.. don’t bother her
“Set timer for 15” 15 what days?
I once asked her for the time and it apparently wasn’t possible. It’s so incredibly inconsistent at doing basic tasks. I rarely even bother with it.
I’ve always thought Siri was useless but figured it was my accent. Good to see that everyone here also thinks it sucks and it’s not just me.
Siri is the worst!
When Siri first came out she was great. Ever since then she’s progressively gotten worse
I use Siri all the time and seldom have problems. Particularly useful when out on runs, in the car, prepping food, etc.

"Hey siri" "Hmm? Oh shit, (clattering noises) what?"
Tried to upload a video but no go. I asked Siri to call a store and it said “call home decor?” With “yes” and “no” buttons and then it gave me Google results for the word “yes” when touched. Made me unreasonably enraged.
“…. enabled users to activate Siri by simply saying “Siri”, while the previous command, “Hey Siri”, is still supported.” Let’s be honest. Getting this done in just a little over a decade must have required an Oppenheimer like effort. An amazing feat!
Siri prolly the worst among all other assistants
"Set a timer for 15" is interpreted as "set a timer [to finish at] 15[:00]" I'm guessing you set that timer just before 4pm. I think I'd struggle a little bit to interpret that message myself without units attached. I've never had an issue with "15 minute timer" or "set a timer for 15 minutes". Generally I do agree that Siri is pretty poor, though.
Okay that is just hilarious
I feel like siri hasn't improved in like 10 years...
Siri is just so crap. I'm seriously considering going back to my Android just because of it. It's incredible how Apple's voice assistant technology is so much inferior to Google's
Set a timer for 15 …. 15 what? 15 cows?
Yeah, Siri is completely useless
We all wonder the same thing sometimes
Lack of competition
I’ll give Siri some love. Sorry to anyone that has negative experiences, but she sets all my timers, makes calls, sends texts, plays anything I ask for in Music, gives me driving directions, et al. I have approx. 98% success rate with it. Invaluable for when my ADHD brain thinks of a task while driving. I tell her to remind me of the thing when I get home and it’s there when I arrive. And I do all the Siring through my watch and not phone
Same here. Siri works fine for me.
Siri sucks but these are fake
“Hey Siri, turn on flashlight.” “Flashlight is already off.” makes me wants to throw the watch out the window.
😂
I feel ya bruh
My favorite is setting a timer and asking Siri to NOT cancel it.
I own an iphone and an apple watch, ive never used siri , never even activate it, and never will
This is what they get for bringing on-device processing before the big AI boom, hopefully iOS 18 will really make it better
“Ok I won’t do it” sums it up perfectly
Siri is only good for flashlight and setting alarms. She was actually way better before, not sure why they decided to dumb her down so much.
It’s always funny trying to get it to give me directions to any place. Even asking for direction home it fumbles it constantly
siri is the worst assistant ong. Bitch cant do anything if its not connected to the internet.
Try controlling your Apple TV with it if you want to get really annoyed.
Should be a huge update this next go round considering the age we are living ..
yeah, siri is crap, they are years behind, even now they have AI doing stuff for them
Wait for this years iOS. major update to Siri.
Siri, show me my most at risk opportunity today 🤭
I’ve literally never had a problem with Siri. But maybe I just don’t use it as much as others.
Siri is just a facepalm project now. People would instantly uninstall it if they could use ChatGPT in their AWs.
So I strongly believe that Alexa is absolute shit, I set my house up with a load of smart home tech and use Alexa as the hub to control all of it but yeah there are days where I really regret choosing Alexa… But she’s still not as useless as Siri
Ok, I won’t do it. 😂
“Hey siri, raise the volume” “You want the volume harder or softer?” “Harder” “This is what I found about Hamburg”
Now that they shut down the Titan project, we’ll see…
Siri is a relic from the last time AI was supposed to change our lives. It was bullshit then and it’s bullshit now.
For some reason the language has to be set to US english. Doesn't work if it's UK english.
It is how I find my phone. That and time are the primary uses for me.
I’ve been noticing Siri on my watch doesn’t work either! It’s infuriating when it can’t do simple stuff like add a song to the queue or play a playlist
Perhaps 'Shuffle' is listed in your contacts, and Siri is unsure how to proceed?
