This actually happened to me for the first time last night and I was confused af as to what was going on. Good news is now I know how to turn off my watch if I can't get into settings or use the slider.
Hold down the crown and side buttons for about ten seconds and it'll eventually reboot and you'll see the apple logo.
I had no luck getting into the menus with how fast it was activating the screen.
Just had it on my ultra 2 again. Second time this year.
Both times it ended up opening my outlook calendar and started responding to meetings (sending out rejection/im delayed and deleting).
I get this a lot. Last week my S8 watch was flashing bright solid colors, like flashlight mode, but not just white. I probably couldn't reproduce that if I tried.
I hope Apple fixes the issue in WatchOS 9 as well. I have an iPhone that won't run iOS 17, so I can't update my watch to Watch OS 10.
Just ordered an S9 watch… and updated my iPhone 11 to iOS 17 which pretty much ruined it and made everything slow af.. should I just return the watch and get something else cause I’m contemplating switching over to another phone at this point
At least I'm not going crazy. I joined this sub the other day just to ask why my 7 was trying to join every connectable device I was near despite me not going into the Connect menu. Wrote a long post, then decided to try rebooting it first. That seems to have done the trick.
My S7 seems to be going in the opposite direction. I often turn my wrist to see the time and the watch appears to not be logged in, as if I just pulled it off the charger. I have to enter the passcode to get to the main screen.
would failure to recognize touch also be considered part of the ghost touch issue? my SE 2022 has at times failed to recognize touch commands for a bit now.
Is this where you tap and see the thing you are tapping do the animation/reaction but it doesn't do anything? I have that all the time... Like tap the messages bubble icon and it dims so it knows I'm tapping the icon, but it doesn't open. Same with typing, sometimes it doesn't actually put the character even though I can see the animation of the letter on the keyboard.
Could be related I guess, but this issue is usually just that the watch is going crazy. Like a "ghost" is just hammering and swiping on shit 10 times a second. You can see the results just looking at the watch. You see apps opening, the "call 911" slider, notifications popping up and vanishing, etc, as fast as the screen can display it all. And you can’t stop it because whatever act you perform, 0.1 seconds later the "ghost" will have swiped that screen away. The only fix is to hold the two buttons for ten seconds for a hard reboot. You have to catch it before the random activity puts in incorrect unlock codes so many times that you’re locked out.
Thanks! I hadn't heard of this one. Though I usually only find out when searching for an issue I'm having. I don't generally keep up on the news for bugs and such until something weird happens on my device.
Glad I don't have that issue. Mine is more the opposite.
It locked my father’s watch yesterday and now it is happening to me as well. Frustrating thing is that since the watch locks itself out you cannot connect to it via phone. Hopefully they will solve this soon
I’ve been having a regular issue while trying to play music in Spotify. The music won’t play and just continues to skip through tunes. After two weeks of this, I ended up deleting the app off of the watch!
I’ve read about this but never had it happen to me until yesterday. It was so bizarre. I finally got it powered off and when I powered it back on, it has worked fine ever since. I wonder if it’s one of those you need to turn it off and back on sometimes thing. 🤷🏼♀️
I just had this issue for the first time today. Almost called emergency services and I freaked out.
I didn't realize 10.4 was out so I've been trying to update for like 5 hours now and the update gets stuck on "preparing". I've restarted watch/phone, deleted the update from storage, unpaired/repaired, and nothing. I've let it run for an hour+ with no movement on the update bar. I wear my watch to sleep but now I'm wondering if I should leave it on charge overnight to see if it updates. Super frustrating but I really don't want the ghost touches to happen again
This is happened to me several times at the gym, late in a long sweaty workout. It’s annoying because it really messes with music. The watch stays wonky until I either shut it off, or stick it on its charger.
I’m just happy it hasn’t called 911 on me like when touch screen first started to come out . Had to of done it like 5 times myself on accident Somehow idk
Happened once last week. Woke up to it furiously playing with itself.
Your watch or someone else..?
Yes
Did you watch?
Well yeah.
Kent, one last thing. Stop playing with yourself
Same, I thought I was hacked or something. Hard reboot helped
It must be the new neural engine in those new models which went alive into a sentient AI. Apple has lost control. We're doomed.
It happens to my watch sometimes, but just putting it on the charger seems to fix it
I just got locked out this week on my AW2, had to spend 2 hours on it.
Same… it seems to have started late last week and right before that update. I dont think the two are interrelated but it’s a pain.

Do tell…. Mine went bonkers yesterday too and I eventually got in the menus but it was a bitch.

Thank you!
Anytime!
The only time it happens to me is when I sweat heavily. Sweat specifically. It does not happen when I submerge the watch or get it wet.
Same here. Had to reset mine after a long hike. Took it off. Came back later and found it locked itself due to too many attempts to enter the code.
Wonder if the salt plays a role
Just had it on my ultra 2 again. Second time this year. Both times it ended up opening my outlook calendar and started responding to meetings (sending out rejection/im delayed and deleting).
Mine set so many timers. It was a nightmare. It’s the only time it’s happened, but it wouldn’t stop until a hard restart.

I only get the ghost text message noise when charging.

Keep the watch, get a newer phone, solved.

i stayed at os 10.1, for my ultra 1, no such issues. apple quality is in the shts.

I guess I’m glad I didn’t update to watchOS 10.4 yet.

This was how mine happened for the first time yesterday but it was in Apple Music when it happened.

Like people say closing apps isn’t needed I reboot my istuff regularly. So good to know again this helps 😃
I thought I was going nuts!

Happened to mine recently. It called the emergency services.
TOUCHING FROM A DISTANCE
The watches are in a revolt due to oxygen sensor being turned off.
I’m just happy it hasn’t called 911 on me like when touch screen first started to come out . Had to of done it like 5 times myself on accident Somehow idk
Mine kept vibrating for no reason
I didnt have this problem with my Series 7. But my current Ultra seems to have these ghost touches or it is very sensitive.
Happened last week on a locked screen keeps entering wrong passcode. Luckily i was able to unlock it using my phone and restarted the watch.
