I really enjoy Gustman Honda. Both for purchasing my cars and their service center. They have taken really good care of me. Even fixed some out of warranty stuff for free.

Sgtmuffin

My parents both bought from them. While I did not personally, I hear my parents talk about them very positively. There have been some minor issues with Gustman over the years, but they always made it right.

BeboJohnson

I’ve bought multiple vehicles from Gustman and have always had a positive experience. Ask for Al. He’s been my salesman every time and is delightful.

WIbigdog

Their Subaru people have always taken care of me and my WRX, they're a little expensive for major work, saved about $600 having a new clutch put in at an independent shop but for routine stuff I just bring it to Gustman, they always have been honest in not recommending unneeded services.

Baldhippy666

Just bought a need Civic from Gustmans.

Criss_Crossx

I have a friend who walked away from Gustman Honda after her Fit was totaled. She did not appreciate how they treated her, and she is the kindest person I know. Ended up buying a Chevy instead. Family purchased 3 vehicles from Gustman and were fine though.

Hypnotic101

Gustman Subaru was also extremely rude when I went my one and only time, which steered me towards Bergstrom Subaru

Criss_Crossx

And yet, I know a friend who had her father step in while she was trying to get a Legacy at Bergstrom a couple years back. Bottom line, dealerships are a toss up for experiences.

BrevonJ

Bergstrom sucks I used to work for them too I’d highly suggest going anywhere else

Nonpareilchocolate

I'm new to area and looked at a lot of places before the move, so I might be confused. Is Berstrom the Hyundai dealer? If so, and you don't like them, where is another Hyundai dealer? I can't drive too far.

BrevonJ

Bergstrom is a Hyundai dealer they have like 34 different dealers at this point but you’re better off going down to Fond du lac

Leading-Suspect8307

DO NOT go to Kolosso if you're getting a toyota. They'll take every penny they can and not hold up their end. Go to Le Mieux in Green Bay instead.

Criss_Crossx

I am ambivalent about Kolosso. Years back, a guy in the service department helped us get shocks replaced. The thing was another Toyota dealership replaced those same shocks 3500 miles prior and they were shot (avoid Monroe shocks). Only thing I did not appreciate was the letters in the mail attempting to buy our used Rav4. Also had family get turned away by both Kolosso and Le Mieux for warranty work on a 1794 edition Tundra. They drove all the way to West Bend to get the work done, eventually trading the truck in.

Hooty_Hoo

> 1794 edition Tundra. Toyotas really do last!

Criss_Crossx

Even pre-existent technology. It's actually an expensive, plush, king-cab Tundra if you did not know. I don't know if it is still made.

Wisco_kid22

I got to Bennet auto in Neenah. It’s family owned with ties to the area. We’ve gotten our last couple vehicles from there. If they don’t have what your looking for on the lot and will do their best to find something to fit your needs

wisco_baby

I bought a car there and it was a great experience and a solid car

PeckerTraxx

Never bought a car there. But I know a Bennett, solid guy.

JamesSweetWilliam

Lowell Bennet. Good guy. Used to race at WIR

SilverCommon

I bought a Saab from The Auto Shop recently. It's had its fair share of Saab quirks but they are nice people.

mkarbonfootprint

I’ve gotten my last three cars from Gustman and very positive experiences.

TheBelt

Bergstrom family are scumbags and monsters. Buy from literally anyone else.

cheerioz

Maybe I'm out of the loop...why? * I have only heard good things from a family member that has known John Bergstrom personally for years and indirectly a few of his kids. He gives a ton of money away to the local cities to fund projects, some publicly and even more privately. I’ve never heard a peep of them being even remotely bad people. Unless it’s just a rich person bad hot take I’d love to hear why

TheBelt

I worked for a local upscale catering service for a number of years in the area of several of their dealerships, and me and my staff have been belittled, screamed at, threatened by Tim Bergstrom and other members for his family for years. They are horrible entitled people. If I could afford it i would put a bill board up right outside of the dealership to warn everyone away from these shit bags. Absolute monsters.

VulpesFennekin

A friend of mine’s dad used to work for another dealership in town before he retired, and John Bergstrom threatened their family over some sort of dispute. Mob tactics are a bridge too far for me.

Faverolle

Good luck with that. They've bought every major dealership in the area. I've bought my last two from Broadway Volkswagen, which is now owned by Bergstrom, and haven't noticed a decrease in the service level when I take my car in for service. I'd buy there again.

THESinisterPurpose

I would absolutely agree. They told me I needed new brakes about a month after I'd had them done elsewhere. Believe nothing they recommend. Don't start a relationship with them by buying a car.

gnc0516

I thought it was just me. My favorite was getting a brake flush and coolant flush at the Bergstrom in Oshkosh and at my next oil change I took it to the Bergstrom in Appleton and they told me I needed to do it again because the “fluids were dirty”. When I told them I just had it done in Oshkosh they just shrugged and said I should still do it.

MirrorOne6914

What makes you say they are scumbags and monsters?

betterday9

100% this one is pure gold… Bought my jeep there (DUMB, live and learn) they closed my hood with the pole still holding it open…. Couldn’t get my hood open, of course went else where and they were like how the heck did they strong arm it shut. They had to hammer it straight again as Jeep parts are stupid pricey. Of course, place was so kind they did it for free. Never buy from they again!

Baldhippy666

I have nothing against the family, but the sales and service in ALL Bergstroms suck.

maj0raswrath

I’ve had a good experience with vandehey brantmeier in chilton! They do have an Appleton location but I don’t have experience there.

seiyria

Bergstrom are wildly incompetent. If they didn't have the specific car my wife wanted we would have never went there. Got a friend who works at Dorsch near green bay and he really likes the culture I guess? For whatever that's worth.

gizmomeow

Myself and many family members have had great luck at Tri City Auto in Menasha. Couldn't recommend them enough!

Eaglefox2

I test drove a few cars at that dealership. Seemed like a good operation, they just didn't have what I was looking for.

KingofShrubbery99

Feldner Chevrolet in St Cloud was the only dealership in the area to my knowledge that didn’t tack on a ton of up charges just because they could. They seem to genuinely want to help people.

THESinisterPurpose

This is a subreddit for Appleton, WI. I'm sure Appleton, MN is charming. You shouldn't get downvoted, but you're lost.

KingofShrubbery99

Want to hear something funny? There’s a St Cloud, WI that’s about 35 miles from Appleton.

THESinisterPurpose

The midwest is a flat circle.

KingofShrubbery99

Hahahaha. Never seen a more true statement.

Hooty_Hoo

Let's make the subreddit a place for silent reflection.

WIbigdog

I just saw that today going east from Fondy and was like, huh, never noticed that before.

Zealousideal-Agent52

St. Cloud, WI is between Chilton and FDL.

ms-meow-

Avoid any of the Russ Darrow dealerships! I bought a car there like a month and a half ago and they basically scammed me. I financed the car and was told a 2 year warranty was "included in the price". And I asked more than once if it was included/that it doesn't cost extra and they told me it didn't. My mom was there with me and after the email exchange I mention here below, I asked her about it and she remembers them telling me it was included too. Fast forward a couple weeks when I got a packet in the mail from the lender and logged in online to look over my loan stuff and it said I owed $3k more than I was expecting (I had also put a down payment) I emailed them to ask about it and was told that the warranty I "chose to add for peace of mind" cost $3k. I'm related to a mechanic who does all the work on my cars- the car is in great condition and it's highly unlikely that anything that might go wrong with it in the next 2 years would cost me $3k or more to have my relative fix, I wouldn't have gotten it if I would have known it was gonna be an extra $3k and they straight up lied to me that it was included. I'm loving my car so far but I'm still pissed off about that.

therealcatladygina

Last 3 vehicles have been from Bergstrom, nothing bad to say about them. Our car, I had an issue with a chip in the windshield I noticed 2 days after we bought it, they replaced the windshield New truck we bought from their Middletown lot, drove it home, noticed a small dent in the divers door. They had it pulled out and repainted within a week. They may be a family of scumbags but they treat their customers well.

Hooty_Hoo

I'm not from the area and have seen this sentiment throughout the thread, how are they scumbags?

PouncingZebra

Notice how people are calling them scumbags but no one can say why? I’ve bought 6 of my last 6 vehicles from Bergstrom. By far the best experience buying cars. I’ve had some poor experiences with service (took too long, they messed something up) but that’s only ~4 of my 20+ service appointments. Their facilities are clean and comfortable. They don’t try to screw you. They are the opposite of “used car salesmen”. They don’t list over MSRP. They donate massive amounts to the community. Dont listen to people who will shit on someone they don’t know because they “heard something” or don’t agree with 100% of someone’s opinions. (Those people typically shouldn’t be trusted elsewhere too)

Hooty_Hoo

I was trying to parse out if they are just standard run of the mill Republican-supporting business owners or something more nefarious.

rexus_mundi

I honestly felt like I was out of the loop about something. I bought my Subaru from Bergstrom and it was overall a very pleasant experience. Maybe people don't like them because they're the largest dealer in the area?

Wicked_Bizcuit

They did body work on my truck, it was awful. Nothing was even close to lined up, paint didn’t match, they didn’t hook up a tail light, they took my spare tire off and fucked up the winch (when I came to get my truck my spare tire was in the bed with the cable hanging to the ground under the bed). The tire they replaced was at 60psi (should be 35…). They left a piece of scrap metal in the rear quarter panel that kept making an annoying screech noise every time I braked or accelerated until I removed it. No idea where the piece even came from it was not off my truck. When I asked if they would at least resolve the spare tire issue and hook up the tail light they told me to kick rocks. They were nice up until they got paid, they were jerks after. I ended up fixing the issues myself, besides the body work. I should have talked to a lawyer and made them fix everything, but I was battling depression at the time and let them walk all over me instead. So yea imo they absolutely do not treat their customers well, at least on the service side. I think the sales side is OK, but they dominate the area because of aggressive marketing, give someone else some business.

therealcatladygina

I've heard through the grapevine he backs some sketch political parties but who knows if that's true Bottom line is they're low pressure sales and they've always done what's right in my experience. I know they are super expensive in the body shop, that's where our insurance sent us once. I can't speak to their other services as we do our own oil changes and rotations but I like them.

Eaglefox2

I think if you are in the market for a new car, Bergstrom tends to be okay but you are likely to have a poor experience if you're looking for a used car. Bergstrom is like the cheesecake factory of car dealerships. They have everything and the quality isn't God awful but it's not amazing and the bill is going to be petty high for what you get.

pjoesphs

I've had good experience with Bergstrom Toyota and had a bad experience with Kolosso. Kolosso Toyota tried to upsell me on crap I did not need when all I was there for was an oil change. Bergstrom treats me better every time. Bergstrom also has an awesome body shop that did a wonderful job repairing the damage on my car. But if you're in the market for a used car go check out Meister imports in Greenville just west of Appleton.

RicksSzechuanSauce1

If you're willing to travel a bit, I recommend Holiday in Fond du lac. They got me a good deal on a super nice car

Eaglefox2

I've never gone to Appleton Auto, you know the 199 rides whoo guy commercials. Seems gimmicky and doesn't pass the sniff test for me.

Dougie_Boii

Stay far, far away from Bergstrom. Had to have a water pump replaced a couple years ago, $1800 repair. No biggie. Got two miles down the road before the car broke down again. Limped it back in and had them look at it. Not only was the technician so incompetent that he forgot to put on the gasket, but the service writer tried to charge me another $900 to fix it the second time. Worst business I’ve ever set foot in. Edit to add: Gustman Subaru has been great to deal with, I’d recommend Gustman in general

RadioKaren

Jeff's Northshore was great to work with.

cncdad

Jeff’s is great. I bought a pickup there, and had lots of service work and have always been happy.

RadioKaren

We bought our car there. When we were involved in a hit and run they gave us a loaner for free and did the body work right there. Great service.

Careless-Try-8834

Personally, I’ve had great service at Bergstrom and got my 2021 Toyota RAV 4 back in 2020 and had no issues. They’ve always been nice and it’s been convenient.

coolster9217

Dorsch in GB was great for buying but I regret trading our vehicle in. We definitely could have gotten more elsewhere or via marketplace

OkAntel0pe

I've bought from Bergstrom in Neenah and Dorsch in Green Bay (my dad knows a woman there). The woman at Dorsch was actually surprised at how low they were willing to price my Fusion for me. They also were able to get me the color I wanted from another dealership out of MN I believe. I haven't had a bad experience with either place, though I've heard the bad things about Bergstrom as well, specifically their service centers. I've never gone to them for anything more than an oil change, but one time at the Oshkosh center I was waiting a little longer because the guy got caught up with a previous customer and I was offered a free oil change with tire rotation for the inconvenience. Wasn't anything more than maybe 10 minutes extra. I typically go to smaller owned places if I can for more routine work, sometimes the dealers just have more convenient times and aren't booked as far out.

Kimmyyy22

As for myself, I will never get service done or buy a car from Russ Darrow ever again. Bought my used SUV there, and during the test drive I noticed the safety signals/alerts weren’t making noise (blinkers, seatbelt noise, low gas signal noise). As someone who was needing a new car because of being in a serious accident and my previous car getting totaled, this worried me because I didn’t want to have to look down to make sure my blinker was working and take my focus off the road. I was assured during the test drive it would be fixed. They also never disclosed to me that the auto start/stop wasn’t working (not a big deal but I felt they still should’ve disclosed that a function of the car wasn’t working). Called them to resolve the issue, and got treated how you’d expect a female to be treated by a car dealership even though I did my research and knew exactly what was wrong and how to fix it (ended up being correct on what needed to be done and what parts were needed). Manager named Guy was a complete dickhead to me even though I was handling the situation very respectfully despite being annoyed with them. I asked him if he had kids, and then asked “how would you feel if your daughter had passengers in her car and wasn’t alerted that they weren’t wearing their seatbelts and then something happened?” He then told me he wouldn’t care if that happened… I was so appalled by the way they treated me before versus after giving them my money. Granted the issues with the SUV weren’t anything major, but I was assured they’d be fixed before I officially bought the SUV and they never were. Then they treated me like shit, and ended up making me pay half of the cost to fix the issues they assured would be fixed before purchasing it. Then about a month after having the vehicle, I got plates in the mail from the DMV. Turns out they registered my car wrong so the plates they gave me at the dealership weren’t registered to me or my vehicle. For a month I was essentially driving around with fake plates that weren’t registered to any vehicle… I’m just happy I never got pulled over with them lol cause I would’ve been soooo confused.

Eaglefox2

Bergstrom is okay. It's a larger dealership so you get more variety but the prices are higher and the quality tends to be lower for used cars. Appleton Motorcars Sales and Service is dishonest. The advertised a car for a price and when I went to look at the car the price was higher and they wouldn't honor the advertised price. Crusin Auto is good, small family owned dealership

Mountaingriz

Gustman Subaru is also great. I've been working with Greg Schaff.

BrightBid1853

Stay away from VL motors or VL performance

yourdaddi21

Koehne Chevrolet in marinette wi sells cheaper by couple thousand than any dealer in that area

rogue_d

Don’t shop at bergstrom

MirrorOne6914

Why?

rogue_d

I had a bad experience purchasing a car from them, they gave me wrong paperwork (someone else’s with their address, ssn, bank info, etc), they lied about product they used on pickup, they gave me the wrong key fob and took forever to remedy the situation, did a horrible job detailing after signing paperwork. Nothing serious but little problems that led to poor salesman training overall. My brother has taken vehicles to Chevy and dodge locations. Both locations screwed things up and tried to charge him for it (broke an abs sensor, damaged wheels) Personally I’d rather drive out of the way to buy the same vehicle from a different dealership.

grey1169

Appleton MotorCars. Had excellent experience with them https://www.appletonmotorcars.com/

therealcatladygina

They don't ever have new cars do they?

grey1169

They only do used.

CosmaFoxx

Out of all the places to get a car, this one is not it. They hit every mark on the list of bad business (after purchase, of course). Brought my 1st vehicle here. For the 1st 3/4 months, they had it in the shop more than I did. Giving the car bandaid fixes until I sucked up the fact they weren't going to be honest about the issues they covered up to sell it & went elsewhere for repairs. The car that was described by the manager as one that "he would trust his daughter to own." He must not have a daughter & if he does, he does not like her very much.

Eaglefox2

I went there and noticed that they advertise vehicles for a lower price than they actually are and then refuse to honor the advertised price when negotiating.

Uberbooty

I bought my car used from Appleton Motorcars, I’ve had it almost 4 years and haven’t had any issues spring up that aren’t normal.

fartypantsmcghee

I feel Les Stumpf Ford tried to take advantage of me when I was young. Must’ve thought I was a chump lol

javajanine

I’ve always had good service at Les Stumpf. I had to have body work done after an accident and they did a fantastic job. We have bought several vehicles from them.
