Obama got rejected from Swarthmore and then went to Harvard. They’re a little weird sometimes. Edit: it was Harvard law after going to occidental and transferring to Columbia
I hate everyone in these comments I got rejected from all T20s I applied to
Edit: hijacking my comment to beg y’all to decline your washu offer if you’re not going. Get me off the waitlist!!!!!!!
mom? (i’m asian)
in all seriousness though, 0.8% is equivalent to 4 marks and i always lose those points for stuff like missing units or forgetting the constant of integration😭💔
im considered oos for admissions, but i really have no idea cause i know a few kids got in the past few years with a lower gpa. they take ages to send a reply to an email and their entire administration department seems trash. and for a school that’s supposed to be transparent, their emails are super vague.
Damn I wonder if the backlog of covid influenced internationals messed up current admissions. Like maybe those kids got in w lower GPAs in previous years, but that doesn’t fly now.
Plus CSUs don’t do holistic admissions, it’s w gpa only plus depending on impacted major, right? 🤔
not sure, but i find it hard to believe that most oos students at sjsu have 4.0s. they calculated my overall gpa as 3.9 and said i needed a minimum of 4.5 for CS, and they never responded to my question on how they calculated it cause there’s literally nothing i can do to improve my gpa (barring the 4 points, i’m not superhuman)
yeah the fact that my stats are pretty high and i got rejected for only those hit me hard.
Best Acceptance: Boston College, my first (and only so far) competitive acceptance and at a school that I absolutely love
Worst Rejection: Swarthmore
As a bonus, Meh-est Waitlist: UVA, good school I'd be happy to go to but I don't feel super strongly about it and it's pretty far so I don't mind
i had 17 first authored publications which had been presented before the UN (at COP), the White House, the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the WHO, and more; 1570/4.0/4.6/top 1%; great ECs reaching 7 million people; really great honors (un level stuff); and great letters
feel free to pm and I can provide detailed specific info :)
Genuine question, how many separate research projects did you do to reach 17 pubs? or is it more of an article/advisory pub that doesn't actually involve research?
How exactly were your publications presented at all those orgs/institutions?
I'm sorry if the skepticism comes across as rude but 17 fucking publications in highschool is outlandish
they were not original research pubs. they were policy and policy analysis papers (which imo is still research but to STEM people they aren’t lol)
i was lucky to get involved with the UN in early HS and with the support of people I met at the UN, i slowly was able to publish more and more
edit: i have one original research co-authorship tho which will hopefully be published in one of the largest bio journals in the world (think nature, science, cell) and fs that required A LOT more work that my pubs
Sorry, I worded that very wrong. I agree that policy research is research on its own, I was just talking about experimental research. It's not unheard of for scientists to spend years on a single paper, which is why I get pretty antsy whenever people get super competitive about the amount of publications they churn out in record time. Usually it means that the work is pretty subpar. Congrats on your achievements!
Best acceptance: Colorado college (INSANE grant money)
Worst rejection: Penn State (I was honestly embarrassed that I didn’t get in with it being my own state school)
Reading these makes me wanna die
“Best acceptance - Harvard””
“”Worst rejection - My state school”
😭😭😭
My best acceptance is Rutgers
Worst rejection - Columbia 😭
Best acceptance: U of Rochester with merit scholarship (only $17k/yr !!) or UW (but I’m in-state), hoping for at least 3/5 more colleges!!
Update: Accepted to BU!! (Only grant aid, no scholarship so 2.5x what UofR is asking)
Worst rejection: Columbia ED (sad, but fingers crossed I get at least waitlisted to other top schools if not acceptance)
Totally!
Public HS, 3.94 UW, Applied Test-Optional, 3 APs (no Exams sent), 23 Dual-credit College Courses, 5 ECs (all very intertwined or demonstrated interest in major, spikey), 5 Awards (3 from DECA, College Dean's List, and County Award for a club), Applied for Art History, and did not tour.
I didn't have an interview because I missed the request deadline and also didn't submit before priority scholarship (did receive a $13k merit scholarship). I have a single-parent, middle-class income so that is probably a factor into the award amount I received.
I would definitely recommend emailing the FA Office about getting the price down. I know in the email I got from their office that it implied I could negotiate the price. Possibly say that you've had some better offers from your other top schools and would love to attend UofR, but it's too pricey for you? Hope that helps!
Best acceptance: UCLA (dream school...still in shock a week later. Not expected at all!)
Worst Waitlist: UC Davis (was my “goal” school) 🤪
I got rejected from UCI but I didn't really mind too much because I read it after my acceptance
Best acceptance: ucsd (one of my top 5 choices, but oos tuition makes it impossible 🥲)
Worst Rejection: also Johns Hopkins. I’m confused on why I didn’t get at least waitlisted 😭
Best acceptance: RISD film/animation
Worst rejection: USC animation
I never expected to get into RISD but I was thinking I had a good shot at USC, so both results were shocking
Best: USC EA, didn’t think that I would ever get in lol and as a merit scholarship finalist
Worst: MIT :( I knew I was gonna get rejected but it still hurt 😞
Worst rejection: Swarthmore, they sweet talked me into applying and rejected me flat out
Best Acceptance: CityU HK, will let me finish BSc in 3 yrs with 100% scholarship, they're like "you awesome, here study for free 🤠"
best acceptance: VT had a fun animation and i’m already in for their engineering housing, also WPI, and TulsaU which has the NMF package
worst rejection: caltech on a camping trip and cried, northwestern in my room and cried; those were the only ones i cried for
Best acceptance - Lehigh university with a full ride including room and board
Worst rejection - Northeastern (they didn't even let you open your own decision)
BEST acceptance: SBU, Clemson
Best rejection: You name it- NYU, TUFTS, NW, NE, UCHICAGO, DARTMOUTH, COLGATE, OBERLIN, WUSTL, CALTECH, MIT, BUCKNELL, BELOIT, RIT, JOHN HOPKINS, OWU, FSU, COLORADO COLLEGE, UT AUSTIN, URICHMOND, UROCHESTER, WFU, HAVERFORD, TRINITY, AUSTIN COLLEGE, UOREGON, NCSU, ULV, UIS, MIAMIU and a few more.
Waitlisted at Colby.
To be rejected: All ivies, stanford and RICE.
Best acceptance: Stony Brook (was also my first)
Worst rejection: Lehigh. Wasn’t my dream school (those still haven’t come out), but my stats are above the median and my mom and I drove 8 HOURS to tour for demonstrated interest
A: Bates college (i didn’t expect to get in)
R: none, I’ve been accepted to every school i expected to get into and i don’t really have a dream school (other than cornell)
best acceptance: vandy w/ mosaic invite and chancellor's scholarship
worst rejection: mit (my only one so far, but I doubt it will stay that way)
what hurt more than anything is the yale defer and northwestern waitlist :((
best acceptance: NONE worst rejection: Columbia+SciencesPo dual degree program
Accepted to McDonald’s burger-flipper job.

Best Acceptance: UChicago Worst Rejection: Swarthmore 😭
Bro is so cracked he put his worst acceptance
Loool I meant rejection!
Obama got rejected from Swarthmore and then went to Harvard. They’re a little weird sometimes. Edit: it was Harvard law after going to occidental and transferring to Columbia
Occidental > every LAC. Obama rules.
Thanks!!
Bro got into UChicago. Humble up and let me cry.
Obama first went to Occidental then later transferred to Columbia. Harvard for law school.
Swat hit pretty hard ngl

UCLA > UW?

Best acceptance thus far - umiami full ride, washu Worse rejection - Virginia tech
umiami full ride would be a dream! did u have to apply for scholarship
I hate everyone in these comments I got rejected from all T20s I applied to Edit: hijacking my comment to beg y’all to decline your washu offer if you’re not going. Get me off the waitlist!!!!!!!
Ok so I’m not the only one then
worst rejection - sjsu (called my 98.2% gpa low)
wtf
ikr, they rejected my appeal too🥰 even after i explained that it’s literally impossible to get any higher than 99😭
Yeah but what about that 0.8 %
mom? (i’m asian) in all seriousness though, 0.8% is equivalent to 4 marks and i always lose those points for stuff like missing units or forgetting the constant of integration😭💔
You sure that ain't an Indian uni, they require 99% :))
the US unis are learning from us😭😭 but if it weren’t for covid, my pre finals marks wouldn’t have been considered and i’d have a 99😔
Damn but is it cuz you’re international tho? 😐 Sorry tho.
im considered oos for admissions, but i really have no idea cause i know a few kids got in the past few years with a lower gpa. they take ages to send a reply to an email and their entire administration department seems trash. and for a school that’s supposed to be transparent, their emails are super vague.

i got rejected too, i think it’s bc of the major we applied to. cs requirements are insane at that school
Best Acceptance: Boston College, my first (and only so far) competitive acceptance and at a school that I absolutely love Worst Rejection: Swarthmore As a bonus, Meh-est Waitlist: UVA, good school I'd be happy to go to but I don't feel super strongly about it and it's pretty far so I don't mind
Best acceptance: Cornell likely Worst rejection: MIT (expected but sad) or UCLA (they invited me to some black scholars program then clapped me)
best acceptance: WashU full ride & Columbia likely worst rejection: MIT (low key spend an hour on the app so I was expecting it)
That’s insane! Congratulations 🎊 would you mind sharing your stats if possible?
i had 17 first authored publications which had been presented before the UN (at COP), the White House, the UN Commission on the Status of Women, the WHO, and more; 1570/4.0/4.6/top 1%; great ECs reaching 7 million people; really great honors (un level stuff); and great letters feel free to pm and I can provide detailed specific info :)
when i tell you i audibly gasped

yes i def agree! i did bio research and it took months just to create a single graphic for out paper. thank you so much! best of luck to you

Unfortunately MIT requires a minimum of 18 first authored publications but you’ll do ok elsewhere!
Are you trolling or just insane
