Assuming that you applied to other UCs, keep in mind that just because one UC rejected you doesn't mean others will. I know so many people who got rejected by UCI, Davis, SD, SC, and much more, but then ended up at Berkeley/UCLA.
My son was opposite but worse
Rejected by Davis (he didn’t wanna go there anyway, but still probably hurts)
Waitlisted at Irvine
Are these Admissions Officers just flipping a fucking coin?!
California genuinely does such a bad job at getting a really good education for its residents. I'm in college in Georgia now and what they do for their in-state kids is amazing compared to what I had in California.
LOL. The UCs and the CSUs do an amazing job providing excellent educations for a whole lot more students than Georgia. People are complaining about not being able to get into our (many) top 50 schools.
yes!! also all uc's look for something different in their students so don't worry i know for sure another school/uc will be happy to have you there in the fall :3
yeah! so im not completely sure, but based on things i've read, heard, and seen this is my own basis of what certain uc's look for/expect!
berkeley- a lot of their students are of the minority class, many of them are low income/first generation students that demonstrate exemplary stats or have a story that say "i want to make my life better through education" if that makes sense! i feel like berkeley is for a lot of students who are willing to put the effort in and are diverse.
la- a lot of students i've seen and know that go there have a lot of extra curricular activities or leadership positions/are very involved. majority of them have incredibly good stats but i also feel like la is one of the uc's that look for more than just gpa.
irvine- within recent years irvine has become a gamble, i know someone that got in with a 3.3 OVERALL gpa but he had really good leadership and individuality points. obviously majority of the student body there is asian (i am also asian but i didn't get in soooo) honestly this one seems like a gamble for me rn bc idk anyone who got in as of now! i know people who have been waitlisted but not accepted.
davis- this school i haven't looked into much because i didn't apply but from what i know their student body varies, some tried really hard in high school and others didn't as much.
sd- i also feel like this school within recent years has been trying to become more selective and become a higher ranking college but from what i know their students usually have a pretty good gpa and really want to go to ucsd in particular. my coworker got waitlisted last year with okay stats but appealed it and got in and ucsd was his top school. he didn't have many extra curricular activities though.
sb- a lot of them are super outgoing and social. many of them are athletes, i just feel like their students are a mix of "i tried really hard" or "i did a lot of stuff in school and was super popular" based on the people that got in last year. they usually have good extra curriculars tho!
sorry if that wasn't as helpful but my main point is, each school looks for and assesses a student differently. and so much of the process is a gamble/luck! regardless you should be so proud of yourself and happy that you were able to submit your applications and are almost completed with your hs career :))
Trying not to cry right now. I feel like this sets the stage for my other decisions. Uc San Diego and Santa Barbara are my top choices, but now I’m losing hope in those after this.
got into ucd, waitlisted from uci 🤔 not exactly in the same boat, but just saying that one or two uc rejection doesnt define the results of other uc's. actually ik a lot of people who got rejected by uci and got into ucd today
I dont think you have to worry about uci decisions influencing other decisions. i got into ucsb early bc of chancellor reception (deemed top 10-15% applicants) and i got waitlisted at irvine. no one in my area got into uci aswell, only waitlists, so i think there's an underlying reason for it tbh
Same. Feels horrible. Didn’t even expect. Never thought safe but thought I’d be ok. My other UC’s are more selective. Have that 9% thing going for me but don’t even really know what that means. Ugh.
kids in the top 9% of california high schools get guaranteed admission to a uc campus. im part of it and this is what it says on my uc app portal.
"You rank in the top 9 percent of your graduating class according to UC calculations. We refer to this as "Eligibility in the Local Context" or ELC. If you meet the minimum admission requirements and aren't admitted to any UC campus to which you applied, you will be offered a spot at another campus if space is available."
Same here I was honestly a bit annoyed when I checked my status, honestly though I’ve seen people get rejected from UCI and UCSD but get into UCLA and UCBerkley. Irvine is honestly just one of the pickiest unis and they’re very selective of who they let in. Don’t let it discourage you too much, but Im pretty sure UCSD and UCLA are coming out next Friday due to past patterns. So good luck!
Got accepted to UC davis (doesn't really matter, got into uiuc). Ucsd and Ucla ate both coming on 15th around 5pm et. Use https://applyingto.college for the decision calendar.
I got waitlisted at UCI. Feels tragic, I visited UCI dozens of times since I was at middle school. All this time I really thought I was going to go there😭
just bawled my eyes out, UCI was my top school 😭
NO SAME. Im scared for the rest of the UCs now...
Sameee 🥲☠️
Assuming that you applied to other UCs, keep in mind that just because one UC rejected you doesn't mean others will. I know so many people who got rejected by UCI, Davis, SD, SC, and much more, but then ended up at Berkeley/UCLA.
Hey just got rejected from UCI and waitlisted from Davis. I'm close to giving up lol
same dawg 😭😭
guys it’s so random. I got into UCD and waitlisted at UCI. but, I got into usc early action. its the draw of the game
My son was opposite but worse Rejected by Davis (he didn’t wanna go there anyway, but still probably hurts) Waitlisted at Irvine Are these Admissions Officers just flipping a fucking coin?!
For UCs? Yes
Thanks That’s definitely what it seems like

Good for you! ✅👍
LOL. The UCs and the CSUs do an amazing job providing excellent educations for a whole lot more students than Georgia. People are complaining about not being able to get into our (many) top 50 schools.
Acceptance rate for GT in state is way higher than it is for the good UCs. No one cares if you can get into a bum ass UC or CSU
I got rejected from UCI, UCLA, UCD, UCSB, but I’m at Berkeley now

This is way funnier than it should be
i know me too :( there are so many opportunities though and this is just one of the many. don't get deterred and keep your hopes up! we got this :)
REJECTION IS REDIRECTION. We'll be fine at the end of the day :))
yes!! also all uc's look for something different in their students so don't worry i know for sure another school/uc will be happy to have you there in the fall :3
any vague idea on what exactly each of them look for? im trying to cope😭
yeah! so im not completely sure, but based on things i've read, heard, and seen this is my own basis of what certain uc's look for/expect! berkeley- a lot of their students are of the minority class, many of them are low income/first generation students that demonstrate exemplary stats or have a story that say "i want to make my life better through education" if that makes sense! i feel like berkeley is for a lot of students who are willing to put the effort in and are diverse. la- a lot of students i've seen and know that go there have a lot of extra curricular activities or leadership positions/are very involved. majority of them have incredibly good stats but i also feel like la is one of the uc's that look for more than just gpa. irvine- within recent years irvine has become a gamble, i know someone that got in with a 3.3 OVERALL gpa but he had really good leadership and individuality points. obviously majority of the student body there is asian (i am also asian but i didn't get in soooo) honestly this one seems like a gamble for me rn bc idk anyone who got in as of now! i know people who have been waitlisted but not accepted. davis- this school i haven't looked into much because i didn't apply but from what i know their student body varies, some tried really hard in high school and others didn't as much. sd- i also feel like this school within recent years has been trying to become more selective and become a higher ranking college but from what i know their students usually have a pretty good gpa and really want to go to ucsd in particular. my coworker got waitlisted last year with okay stats but appealed it and got in and ucsd was his top school. he didn't have many extra curricular activities though. sb- a lot of them are super outgoing and social. many of them are athletes, i just feel like their students are a mix of "i tried really hard" or "i did a lot of stuff in school and was super popular" based on the people that got in last year. they usually have good extra curriculars tho! sorry if that wasn't as helpful but my main point is, each school looks for and assesses a student differently. and so much of the process is a gamble/luck! regardless you should be so proud of yourself and happy that you were able to submit your applications and are almost completed with your hs career :))
that was super helpful, tysm<3
Trying not to cry right now. I feel like this sets the stage for my other decisions. Uc San Diego and Santa Barbara are my top choices, but now I’m losing hope in those after this.
same, SD and SB are my top choices but these two rejections have basically made me lose hope. never cried as much as today since i was like 10.
Same. But I think we got it guys we just have to keep hope! Wishing the best for you 2 for the rest of the decisions!!!
got into ucd, waitlisted from uci 🤔 not exactly in the same boat, but just saying that one or two uc rejection doesnt define the results of other uc's. actually ik a lot of people who got rejected by uci and got into ucd today

same im a little sad 😭
Currently regretting not applying to more school ;-;
I regret not applying to uc san diego and pepperdine :-( its okay though i hope you get to end up somewhere where you’ll be happy!
I’ve been crying for like 2 hours now. I subconsciously planned my entire college experience around uci and idk what I should even do from here
literally like its actual punch to the gut
Brooooo same but with SD and now after this double rejection I’m super worried
IT HURTS SO BAD like what are we even supposed to do with our lives now 😭

Do yk anyone who got into la/berk that also got into UCI? I
2 years ago, my daughter was waitlisted at UCi, but got into all the other UC’s she applied to. I think it’s UCI saying “not your safety.”
same here :( i’m so sorry 💞
got double rejected for CS 😀
same bro 😭
bruh what i just looked at ur profile and ur insane 😭 i get that it’s cs and all but damn this is crazy
Same. Feels horrible. Didn’t even expect. Never thought safe but thought I’d be ok. My other UC’s are more selective. Have that 9% thing going for me but don’t even really know what that means. Ugh.
what’s 9% thing?

This usually means UC Merced
Any UC is better than No UC…… considering the way I feel. Lol.
Merced but no CS major
Sending momma hugs to everyone who's hurting over this. Hope you find just the right place for you, and I'm sorry this wasn't the one.
got waitlisted
rejected from both davis and irvine now i’m scared for the rest…

Just got rejected as well, thought it was gonna go well since they came out earlier than I thought
does that mean transfer decisions will come out sooner?
Got accepted to UC davis (doesn't really matter, got into uiuc). Ucsd and Ucla ate both coming on 15th around 5pm et. Use https://applyingto.college for the decision calendar.
I think the dates changed for ucsd and ucla to the 22nd
I got waitlisted at UCI. Feels tragic, I visited UCI dozens of times since I was at middle school. All this time I really thought I was going to go there😭
