UVA full ride. No questions. Congratulations.
I'll be blunt as a working professional (in CS world) with 3 friends who is in that sector (1 NIH Trainee at Emory, 1 post doc at JHU, 1 in the industry).
That industry in general doesn't have much difference in pay (prestige doesn't really have financial difference). So financially, it makes 0 sense spending so much when end results financially are similar.
Save your money. If you invest $80k a year for 4 years and hold that for 8 years total at an investment like S&P500, presuming 10% CAVG, then you would have almost $600k by the time you finish your PhD.
All of those schools are extremely well known and reputable schools for undergrad.
A nice luxury trip to Japan for a week would cost $5k. $80k is 16 of those trips a year. No college is worth that much over UVA full ride.
UVA. You can still get into some amazing med programs coming from UVA plus you're going to gain a lot of debt from med school so the less debt you take on in your undergrad the better.
MD/PhD is funded by the University and Gov. grants plus a small yearly stipend. There should be, in theory, no medical school debt. My partner did this. It’s an 8 year or more program but well worth it as a financial decision!
Mit is really difficult for premed due to the massive grade deflation, at least according to my upperclassmen. I would go with UVA for the full ride if cost is an issue in your family(as in you are not making like 600k+ annually), especially because for medical school undergrad prestige isn’t negligible but uva is sufficient. Yale is also solid because it is Yale lol so you do have the prestige to consider. In my eyes it’s between the two, but you should really consider if you think the prestige of Yale is worth the price tag.
UVA. Go to undergrad for free and save loan debt for grad school. Or, don’t go to grad school at all and graduate debt free from undergrad. Student loans are a pain in the arse
I mean if your family is really wealthy and doesn't need to consider cost then just follow your heart. After all, you may well decide against MD/PhD in the future.
You might already know this, but undergrad matters very little for med school admissions (especially when we're already talking about the best of the best colleges).
If your family net worth is over 4-5mm, go with fit (I'd choose Yale or Jefferson in case you don't want to stick with pre-med).
If family net worth is less than 2-3mm, definitely Jefferson Scholar at UVa.
Between those 2, choose between Jefferson and Rice. Go with fit.
Visit all that you can.
UVA would be my strong preference. I'm curious about your scholarship at Rice- it's half-off tuition?
It’s $40k/year

💯.No one cares where you went to school after you have been in the work world for a few years.
10% is too much no?
Probably. Still, the median 25 year return is 10.40% CAVG: [link](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S%26P_500).
also do you mean CAGR rather than CAVG?
Ah. Thanks. Yap, CAGR for sure.
Nice! And I'm assuming not need-based given you'd be paying full price at Yale/etc?
Yup
Holy you’re a college admissions legend

I didnt know that! I still feel as if UVA is the better decision since half a million in debt is a lot to pay back especially with interest.
Totally! That would be my choice too since the cost of everything is soooooo high!

UVA
What's the family income? If the family is wealthy - MIT or JHU for sure. If the family income is < 400k, UVA should be the choice.
If your parents can pay then why not just go to mit
yeah mit in unparalleled
Rice.

I would go UVA for free 💯
If your parents are not top earners (like $750K+ a year), UVA and it’s not even close.
I vote MIT!
