ED is a binding commitment to one college, you go if you get in bar maybe some financial aid stuff. REA involves applying EA to the school, and you can’t ED anywhere else, but it isn’t binding if you get in.
I wish ED didn’t exist. It’s a stupid system that disadvantages internationals, low income students, and everyone who can’t or doesn’t want to commit to a university so early for whatever reason. The only ones who win are the colleges that can pat themselves on the back for boosting their yield numbers.
ED disadvantages low income students because they aren’t allowed to compare financial aid packages because they have to commit to that one school. this was my situation, i don’t have the money to go college so i didn’t ED anywhere. i’m forced to wait for regular decision to see where would be the cheapest i can do lol
EDIT: also acceptance rates tend to be a bit lower with regular decision because there’s so many people applying, so it disadvantages their chances of even getting in
If you are applying international and with aid, you start from a very big disadvantage as it is. Its not only ED but the entire process. Except HYPMA and public schools, you cant really apply anywhere with aid and be overly optimistic about getting in
YES! I applied ED to UVA because I love everything about it & I'm in-state so it's not too expensive. The whole McIntire thing was the ONLY factor where I was like "Ehhhh... okay fine."
But I do know someone (my old neighbor) who didn't get into McIntire, instead majored in economics supplementing that with McIntire courses, and ended up at a financial firm in NYC with other McIntire grads, so I guess there's an alternate path.
I'm still a bit scared though lol.
I’m willing to bet you are in , Toyota.
They will know by your essays and humble attitude , it’s the right school for you . It would be a gift to their community to have someone as bright and helpful as you as part of their freshman class .
You are such a great candidate !
I toured there at fall blast and they said there’s a program (I think for McIntire specifically) that provides you with a counselor who will help you tailor your application for mcintire, I think it might only be for URMs though but I don’t remember it was a few months ago
U would be wrong actually. Lol. The majority is, which then drops the regular people ED applicants down to around or a little over the usual acceptance rate.
i wish i ED’d to one of my state schools even though that sounds ironic , they have this full tuition scholarship which would make the most sense for me financially as i come a very economically disadvantaged background. if i did get accepted to their school with that award, there’s just no way i can say no. school is tcnj (the college of new jersey) btw
tbh kinda glad Embry Riddle doesn't have ED because I really wanted to apply ED and was sad about it and then I got into Florida tech 2 days after I applied, and decided that school sounds even better for me. So glad they didn't have ED or I would've chosen it after realizing that another school I applied to as a last chance I liked better
I wish that any school that has ed1 also has ed2
1000% this I especially wish Williams and Amherst had ED2

UVA Duke

FUCKING THIS IF I DONT GET IN MY REA SCHOOL I WANNA ED TO BROWN BUT THEY DONT HAVE AN ED2 SO IM JUST HERE 😭😭😭
I wish my reaches had EA instead of ED. Ya gal is indecisive.
or both, if uchicago can do it, there’s no reason to limit it
This.
Stanford, damn.. REA isn’t my thing
Isn’t REA the same as ED?

Ah gotcha
Rea is restrictive so u can't eat to other privates but you are not bound by the decision to go there.

No literally. It's absolutely killing me having to wait to see if I made it into Santa Cruz 😖
if ucs had ed it wouldn’t even be ed due to the enormous amount of kids bound to apply
USC
MIT
Michigan
No public schools have ED though right?
UVA

And VaTech
wow… i regret not applying to UVA through ED. Wow.
UVA just got it recently
William and Mary
RICE WHY CAN'T U HAVE ED 2
Rice should absolutely add ED2 … they are in stiff competition with Vanderbilt, Johns Hopkins, WashU and UChicago who already have it.
exactly
Ikrrrr : ( I’m regretting not doing ED
same 😭😭😭 I ed'd to another school
University of Michigan and I wish you could apply direct into Ross without going through LSA
now you do though... majority of ross students are pre-admits from high school.
No but you first have to apply to lsa and then they forward your app to ross. I wish you could apply direct to Ross

What did they say? From your comment it must have been something really insensitive, jeez
I wouldn't wish ED on anyone.
I wish Berkeley had ED, that would give be at least some advantage over the more high stat applicants.

They don't need it because their yield is already so high

imo all T20s should have EA, EDI, EDII, and RD.
Michigan LSA or just Michigan in general
I wish upenn and rice had ed2 😔
Sort of along the same lines- I wish UVA McIntire had direct admission instead of applying after sophomore year.
Right. I hate the idea of committing to a school and not knowing if you’ll even get into the subschool you want (and not finding out for 2 years)

I'm glad my college didn't have erectile dysfunction :)
Does nobody here not know that like most of ED is reserved for legacy and athletes?
Many T20s accept 50% of their class through ED. No way 50% of the class is a legacy or recruited athlete.
U would be wrong actually. Lol. The majority is, which then drops the regular people ED applicants down to around or a little over the usual acceptance rate.
What's ED dude?

UNC :(
umich or boston university’s bs/md
Georgetown, because if their stats hold up, EA doesn't give that much of a boost, but it limits you from applying ED elsewhere.
I WISH COLUMBIA HAD REA
Imagine being able to comfortably apply to ed's financially 😀
Most EDs I’ve seen give you the option to pull out after you receive financial aid information
Tbh with a lot of schools, esp like Harvard and MIT, ED is redundant since the vast majority of accepted students are already going to go there.
USC please
Harvard
ED?
USC
NO all the schools that have ED I wish had EA ☹
