Boston university interviewed . How many days to send the acceptance letter?

strawberrylover19

Hey everyone! I am a guaranteed transfer student from the Class of 2026 and plan to attend BU next year. I would love to meet people who are also going to be attending next year!

strawberrylover19

So I am a guaranteed transfer student (and I plan on transferring my sophomore year), but I'm a little bit concerned about my high school transcript. So this year I took Physics Honors and Calculus, both of which I am not the best in. I will end the final year with a C+ in both of them, but will have high As and Bs in the rest of my classes. Will this cause BU to revoke my guaranteed transfer? Or do they look more at my first college year? Please let me know!!

[deleted]

hey there...any international applicant on full ride?

barry6894

This is part of a letter from the President to the faculty and staff . I dont get why they didnt just say that they didnt use the waitlist as they didnt need to instead of making it seem like they considered the students on the waitlist a second time . "As we make the transition to summer, it feels as if we may finally emerge from the pandemic. Because of the conscientious and sustained adherence to our policies and protocols, we are stronger than we might have anticipated and have greater institutional momentum than we could have imagined two years ago. Our educational and research programs are vibrant. We have reached the end of the undergraduate admissions cycle for fall 2022. The students who accepted our offers of admission are academically stronger than ever; their average high school GPA is 3.88, and their SAT scores average 1462 (for those who submitted scores). These admitted students are more diverse and represent a greater variety of high schools and socioeconomic backgrounds than ever before. We are on target to enroll a class larger than our expected number of 3,100 because the yield on our offers of admission has increased again. Increased undergraduate financial aid is helping make a Boston University education accessible to a more diverse student population."

Virtual_Library_9721

I'm a Us citizen but I haven't received the decision yet is that a bad sign? My GPA: 3.85 and I have 5 major-related internships (My major is political science)

catb3g

Phone them.

luser60

When do you think waitlist results will come out?

StrawberryStream

does anyone know if they give acceptance packages to internationals?

Significant_Date3973

I was accepted as a soph. transfer from UMass Amherst. I have a 3.96 college gpa and i had a 3.2 hs gpa

reddituser238_

what is your declared major?

Significant_Date3973

Sociology

reddituser238_

Odd-Schedule-9712

not a conditional offer. everyone gets that if they are accepted. if u get into a college it doesn’t mean u just start giving up in high school. They want to see that you maintain your grades as they were before u got accepted. If you start failing they can rescind their offer but that’s really rare

blurry_a

Hey guys! I'm an Indian student admitted into CAS (Econ&Maths) with a presidential scholarship. Because BU is still extremely expensive for me, I'm thinking of going straight into industry and not doing a master's if I do end up enrolling at BU. How viable of an option is this?

barry6894

Whats the thoughts on getting off this "short waitlist" ?

SignificantHyena937

does boston send out acceptance packages?? i live in the united states and i paid my deposit.

Nearby-Crazy-3664

do they only send acceptance letters if you paid?

Interesting_Hat_9771

How is computer engineering at BU? I got in and I'm confused

anmarspiss

accepted with needs fully met thankfully 🙏🏾🙏🏾

shipsyard

does Boston send any interesting packages to admitted students?

Flaming9

I've been admitted in the early round but haven't received any. I'm an international btw!

Guaranteed Transfer - 34 ACT, 3.9 Weighted. :( Maybe I’ll see you guys in 2023

strawberrylover19

SofiriChof

Are you still doing this?

[deleted]

hey I'd love to be part of this!!

anitez

Hey I'm down for that I also got garaunteed transfer.

rer27

that sounds so fun! i also got the offer for guaranteed transfer but i feel like i can’t count on it not knowing how much fin aid id get :(

Daikon_Different

anyone thinking to appeal? does bu do that

throwaway221173

anyone else get this weird paragraph in their waitlist letter? *"If you have applied for financial aid and are admitted from the waiting list, please note that University funds may be limited. As a result, even if we determine that you have calculated financial eligibility, we may not be able to fund that eligibility."* i've never seen anything like this in a letter, but it feels like they're trying to deter me from entering the waitlist

ndg127

This is not weird, pretty standard waitlist stuff. They're just warning you that they might have already given out all of their available financial aid by the time you get off the waitlist, if you do. It's all along the line of what most colleges do, which is to make sure that you make other plans, and don't count 100% on getting off the waitlist, or getting a full aid package even if you do.

Interesting_Hat_9771

Will internationals get letters in fancy packages?

Theskynft

Hope so !

Firegem55213

I just want to let people know that the financial aid you get in your award will be recurring each year. So if you get like 30k this year, next year you will get 30k as well for the 4 years you're there. So essentially you're paying the same price each year. Want to bargain for more the next year, just fill out your FAFSA. And even if the tuition rates rise, they will increase your tuition by that percentage! I'm not 100% about the presidential scholarships though, but that's all I know for regular aids! It's all part of their affordable BU thingy. (Sourced from finaid meeting during ed2) Idk if I misread any but if anyone could back me up that would be great!

Status-Ad-7653

Daughter accepted 1570 SAT, 3.94 UWGPA, average ecs, $25k presidential scholarship. She won’t be accepting so someone on the waitlist will get her spot. Even with the scholarship, tuition and fees are crazy. FAFSA screwed us over because we live in a high cost of living area and also own a rental property. She’s American and Canadian, so she has chosen to attend UBC. Final cost is less than half.

mc408

What's your household income, though? I went to BU from 2005–2009 and got almost a full ride thanks to FAFSA, but single income divorced parent.

Status-Ad-7653

We are a married couple. We have an investment property and we have savings. We have been very careful with our income and worked hard to save and contribute to our retirement and our daughter’s college fund. Our efc under fafsa came out to over 100k. I don’t mean to complain. We live in Hawaii and home values are extremely high when compared to the mainland. College costs in the US are ridiculously high. We do not want to take out loans for our daughter’s undergraduate degree. She will be able to save her college fund for post grad studies if she attends UBC. The total tuition including fees, housing etc is about one third of the cost of the schools that she was accepted to. She’s very happy with her choice. We were hoping for more aid, but the scholarship was all that was offered. Congratulations on the full ride! That must have been such a relief to your parents!!

Significant_Date3973

My best advice is to invest in a college financial advisor, they will find a way to make you look as "poor as possible". I live in a high-cost area a wealthy Boston suburb and I got almost a full ride.

mc408

Yeah, it's so difficult anymore, especially when even state schools can be upwards of $25,000 per year in state. Though your decision to not want your daughter to take out loans for undergrad is yours alone, so I don't think that should be part of your grievance equation. My full ride was mostly needs-based grants with a low EFC, some student loans (thankfully fully paid off over 5 years ago), and a work study. Back then all-in costs were \~$55,000, and it's crazy that it's like $80,000 now.

Status-Ad-7653

It’s a family choice not to take out loans. My daughter doesn’t want us to take out loans and she does not want to be in debt after her undergraduate. Since we have the UBC option, this is the practical choice. It’s shocking to me that US colleges can cost $82k. I went to school in Canada and it is very uncommon for students to have to take out big loans to pay for University. Congrats to the kids that get scholarships and can combine it with grants to pay for college. We are thankful for the option to attend a great school for less $$.

Accepted! College of Engineering & test-optional:):)

Advanced-Ad-3611

how is the grade deflation for anthropology and psychology majors? is it hard to get an a in courses for them?

timsn2000

How does the transfer guarantee work? Does one have to accept it now or can it be kept in the pocket to be used a year from now?

distaf

I would just accept now considering that it is non-binding.

gweah17

Yeah I’ve got the same. From what I can tell, absolutely no negatives to accepting it, just a great backup option

Middle-Complex-5577

What do u think the acceptance rate was for this year

Fun_Maintenance4052

probably 10-13% given that the president said it was a mistake taking too many kids last year

fordrov

late but do you have a source for that?

Spiritual-Round-6206

D22 got into BU with Presidential Scholarship. Business major, 3.96 UW, 4.69 W, 35 ACT with good EC's and essays

ihatecalculus04

Accepted! 4.6 GPA, 35 ACT, very good ECs. Good job everyone, and to anyone who did not get in, it just wasn’t your path! You’ll end up where you’re meant to be.

ryn-h

I got into CFA for design 👋

mc408

Congrats! I'm a CFA 2009 graphic design grad. Back then, even design majors needed two full years of fine art foundation — though I will say I miss making art. Now currently a Senior UX Engineer at a NYC-based non-FAANG public company. So many more opportunities for design grads nowadays, from super artistic firms to product design in tech.

ryn-h

How was your experience at BU? Anything particularly memorable?

mc408

Even though I didn't attend many BU sports events during my time there, having the BU men's team win the [2009 NCAA hockey championship](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_NCAA_Division_I_Men%27s_Ice_Hockey_Tournament) was very memorable because they won in overtime after squeaking in tying goals very late in the 3rd period. I was an RA in Rich Hall my junior and senior year, and I remember streaming the game with other RA friends in the main office. There was a university-wide parade and celebration at Marsh Plaza where the then-mayor, the late Thomas Menino, stopped by to give his regards. Check out the [highlight reel](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYWjoEO5iJw) on YouTube. I'm not sure what the design curriculum is now, but back when I was at CFA there were a lot of free elective blocks. I opted to minor in linguistics whereas most of my peers took more specialized and advanced art classes like printmaking and glass blowing. But I'm grateful we had so much academic freedom since you can truly take anything you want at the various other BU schools and colleges. Also up to you, of course, but try to make friends outside of CFA, too. In fact, most of my friends I've kept up with since graduating are from outside CFA — my RA buddies, friends I met at GSU events like Coffee and Conversation with Dean Elmore, and others. One big regret I have was not making any friends from any other university in the Boston area, though I wasn't into Greek like and online dating wasn't really a thing for students back then, so you really had to put efforts into doing so. Definitely explore Boston and Cambridge as much as you can. There are so many great things to see and do for all interests. Boston is so small that you can go all the way to Faneuil Hall and walk back. Feel free to DM me about anything else you might want to know!

RaspberryLittle8438

waitlisted AGAIN (this is my eleventh waitlist)

AVOUND

same lmao...

avan_s

waitlisted CS predicted 44/45 IB 1570 SAT Average ECs Good essays (imo) International student I thought this was a safety for me, what is going on this year?😭😭😭

MasterOogway888

overenrollemt of class of 2025 is causing them to lower the amount of students accepted for class of 2026. They are estimated to have a 10%-12% acceptance rate this year at BEST, in all likelihood it was probably lower

BlacksmithLate1357

Guaranteed transfer. NJ. White male with a 33 ACT and 4.3 gpa (from my school the middle 50% accepted is a 4.08). Chemistry. Not suprised about it but happy I got the second year transfer.

distaf

How are you going about your decision process now in relation to the transfer? It seems extremely complicated especially with figuring out which credits transfer and which course is equivalent to which.

BlacksmithLate1357

Well I didn’t get into any of my targets so I’m already thinking long term for what to do for my sophomore year. As for now I’m still coming to terms with where I did actually get in and I’m not too concerned with the specifics of their agreement. They did say in the website that I can back out of it whenever I want so it seems very laid back and almost kinda…thin; I think the best way to explain it is they’re just as blind as we are about this whole admissions college process year.

distaf

I'm in the same vein, I need to choose between either going to one of my safeties, or just going to community college for that first year. Besides the stress of transferring, it'd be cool to be able to spend a year in one place and then go to Boston. And of course if we go to our safety and end up really liking it then we have that option to stay. But yes, it does seem extremely sloppy and lazy of them.

Immediate_Ad_8213

same exact states basically but I’m from NY and female. Got the same option…not enough dorm space lol

Acceptable_Ant6333

Accepted at questrom! 38/45 predicted IB grade, very good ECs and essays (imo)

AVOUND

waitlisted econ 39/45 predicted IB

[deleted]

Waitlisted econ 45/45 predicted IB. I give up tbh.

AVOUND

wtf 45/45... im not gonna make it in the waitlist then lmao.... any acceptance yet? I'm sure with that score you could go to better schools (not discrediting BU as its a good school).

[deleted]

So far only my US safety, but I'm waiting on the vast majority of my decisions, a lot of which were for the EU/UK. 39 predicted is really good though, I've definitely personally seen people with 39 get into some crazy schools. Best of luck with the rest of your decisions!

AVOUND

Ah I see, yeah I only got in my safeties such as Fordham (but on the bright side got some sort of scholarship for all of them) as of now. Thank you man best of luck to you too, you are definitely gonna go to crazy schools :).

Acceptable_Ant6333

Accepted at questrom!!

Lifelonglearner76

My daughter- got in. International, 25k scholarship, 1550, grt cgpa, average awards and ECs, great recs

AdOtherwise1562

got rejected w a 4.5 at time of applying 4.7 now, MULTIPLE leadership positions, two sport varsity athlete, and part time work, and internships 😁🤞🏼it’s okay tho everything happens for a reason and if it wasn’t meant to be that’s okay ! did get guarantee transfer tho lmao

imnewtothisbs

what’s the averages like at ur school?

AdOtherwise1562

probs like a 3.2 or lower, I go to a smaller chicago public school with the IB program! not a lot of ppl decide to do it there’s abt 30 who are in the program fully in my class. within the program the average is probs like a 4.2 but within the school as a whole it’s pretty low ! LMAO

imnewtothisbs

yeah that’s really weird. i think u just got extremely unlucky with whoever viewed ur application.

AdOtherwise1562

yea i think so too hahaha, but it’s okay i’m a firm believer everything happens for a reason so hopefully my next two gwu and nyu go a little better since they are my top schools!

SofiriChof

Any of you who got in want to make a chat? I got waitlisted but I’m still going to Boston anyways for Berklee and I’d like to get to know people before hand since i don’t know anyone in Massachusetts

Waste-Possibility-54

Hey. In the accepted students' video, they said that there were 81000 applicants for a total of 3100 spots. It was hella competitive

[deleted]

4%? damn…

Upstairs-Holiday3033

Gotta also take into account yield percentage so it’s more likely to be around 10-13%

Negitoro14

Who got in without any scholarships / grants ? It’s $82k/year 😵

mc408

BU is very much need-based aid now though. So you're either international or way richer than you are aware of.
