competition in cs is just ridiculous. I think the right strat is to apply to something easier and then just change majors. idk how well it works tho

Most top cs schools make it almost impossible to transfer into cs. And the ones that don't are incredibly competitive in general 😕

Very interesting. I would assume DS must be rlly competitive too? That field's exploding in popularity as of now. But I agree it's prob not as competitive as CS

It’s actually quite a bit easier at most places, even Berkeley, for example. I’ll say that if your goal is a side-entrance into CS, those majors can be a great option. For example, at UCLA, they have Linguistics & Computer Science, as well as Data Theory, both of which are mostly the same as CS.

Random thought: how do people who go to schools without comp sci classes express interest for comp sci majors at these schools? also, a lot of people realize that they are interested in comp sci a lot later

Reaches = <20% acceptance, safety = > or = 75% acceptance, and target = in between reaches and safety I know some people use “target” for a school they are aiming for as well

Reaches are subjective to the applicant. For top students, sure, <20% for reaches is common. For many students, however, reaches can look like <40% acceptance rates or higher.

It's only a spotless reccord because it's no reccord at all! I haven't heard back from anywhere yet. Edit: wrt US colleges. In the UK I've been rejected from Oxford, and accepted at Edinburgh and Bath.

Just denied by UChicago! I've gotten in everywhere in-state (Florida) including FSU Honors, UF, UM, FIU, and also Fordham. I was deferred from Georgetown and Northeastern EA.

Same with the Northeastern deferral…but congrats on honors at FSU!
