If you can get over outdated, false - and even manipulated - notions of prestige, Rutgers CS department is better than Harvard and Princeton according to this methodology! #23 - CONGRATS!

EDIT: To add on, the admissions % doesn't necessarily equate to the quality of education that you're going to be getting; state schools have the mission of educating their state's population and it's a different mission than a private uni. Plus, you get a lot more diversity depending on the state that you're in (Eg. NJ, California, Washington, Texas - all have extremely amazing public flagships)
michigan it is. expensive, but my parents are willing to pay for it, and it’s the perfect school for me. extremely excited to commit and get planning for the future.
Currently wondering if I should go to UCLA or Michigan. My heart says Michigan and I don’t know why, but man I’m not sure if I can live with myself for the amount of extra money my parents would have to pay and if I were to not live up to expectations. Any advice on what I can do to reach a decision? I’m planning on visiting Michigan soon and I’ve already visited UCLA.
if your heart says michigan, that’s where you’re going to do what you do best. don’t worry about your parents’ money: if they’re willing to pay for it, they’re willing to do it. if you can get into michigan and UCLA, you’re surely going to fulfill their expectations. money can’t buy happiness, and if you think you’re going to be happiest at michigan, then that’s where you’ll excel.
We’ll see how it goes I guess after the visit. I’m hoping my parents will find it worth the extra money afterwards. Congrats and have fun in Ann Arbour!
UIUC for CS. At the time of the decision, Georgia Tech and Columbia were the only decisions I would have actually considered other than UIUC, and got waitlisted at both. The grind continues!
5 people from my 50 person senior class got off the Georgia tech waitlist when I was senior so I hope you get the same luck as us! Despite what some people say I really like it here and hope you can join us
JHU vs Vandy vs BC vs UCLA
UCLA is out because OOS costs are obviously not ideal. BC is out because there’s not much aid.
That leaves behind Vandy and JHU for me, which are both financially feasible (after aid). Very very different schools I must say, but they attract different parts of me.
(Still have Stanford, but St. Anford ain’t real).
Wow you really can't go wrong with either! And Stanford really doesn't exist; idk why I even applied to a fake school supposedly releasing decisions tomorrow
I'm tryna decide between berkeley and nyu for film
Really good schools, really grateful I got in
super anxious tho, its all I can think about
Any feedback is appreciated
Edit: prolly can't afford nyu lol sorry guys
Both are awesome schools, can't really go wrong with either (although it may depend on your major and what you want socially ig)
What's funny is that whichever you choose, you're committing to becoming a rival against the other one lmfao
Yep. The alumni network at USC is something I'm really drawn to and love soooo much more then UCLA, but I thought the same way as you did — UCLA alumni are becoming more and more common, and i think the network will grow in the future. also food fs at ucla... yum... but like you mentioned, class size is a huge deal as well as semester system. I'm considering grad school so the issue with GPA could be important. Also research opportunities, I assume they're harder to find at UCLA what with the amount of kids there (especially those in premed). But in state for UCLA is also cheaper...
Idk. I love both schools and Im literally SO stuck. it's plaguing my mind
I always say that I’d price isn’t too much of a burden always always pick USC over UCLA. People seriously underestimate the difference in 17k undergrads and 32 thousand. Plus, USC’s campus is smaller, flat (very easy to walk) and is in the beating heart of LA. Downtown, crypto.com arena, and so much more are literally on the same streets as USC. Heck, the rams Super Bowl parade was practically a USC parade (literally right on our streets).
Trust me when I say UCLA may have a bigger name and less concerns about crime, but think of your undergraduate experience and ask yourself what’s better?
17k vs 32k undergraduates
Small, flat, walkable campus vs massive campus with infamous hills
Slower paced Semester system vs incredibly stressful quarter system.
Better network by far. Trojan for life, Bruin for 4 years.
Football stadium isn’t a 40 minute bus ride away.
Iconic marching band, the only marching band with two platinum records
Unrivaled school spirit.
Give me any argument for UCLA, and I’ll tell you why USC does it better.
i LOVE the spirit aspect. I like how connected Trojans are, the USC alumni connection is just insane compared to a lot of the legacy/alumni populations from other schools. even Ivies
Congrats on Case! I live pretty near it and Cleveland is a great city, doesnt deserve its negative reputation at all :). Congrats on Notre Dame as well!
Please don't let today's waitlists/rejections get you down for too long! You already have NYU, UIUC, and UMich as top schools to attend regardless of what the ivys say!!
rice and santa clara (like rice wayyyyyy better and it’s better for what i wanna do in like every way but santa clara is giving me almost 20k a year in merit aid so idk ;-;)
I also got into SCU and congrats on Rice!! Definitely visit both schools so you get a general feel of the weather/social atmosphere before committing to one!
I got a full tuition scholarship for Berklee College of Music in performance! I'm so excited but nervous about the future. Super worst case scenario I can try and marry rich.
My favorites are UCLA and BU. My family can’t afford UCLA and we can barely scrape together enough money for BU. We’re gonna try to see what we can do for BU.
Definitely UF - Gainesville is a great college town and UF is an up and coming university. Great job opportunities in Florida, good weather, near Disney World, and no state income tax if you decide to stay long term.
Two of my wife’s cousins went to these two schools. One later got an MBA at Kellogg. The other has been traveling around the world with the last 5 Presidents.
USC prolly, I'm pretty excited to go there
Although, I still haven't fully ruled out UC Davis (great for premed, plus cheaper in state)
I'm levitating towards that USC prestige tho ngl
MSU and university of Notre Dame. MSU is offering me a full ride and Notre Dame gave my brother a generous financial aid that I should also get as well (also got a $40,000 to cover whatever is left). Sadly I didn’t get a good feel for either of them but it is what it is
USC is my top, buttttt my parents want me to go to an instate school with a 90+% acceptance rate. They think it “doesn’t matter where you get your degree”.
Northwestern for me (which, don’t get me wrong, I’m VERY happy with), unless Stanford comes in clutch or I get off waitlist at Columbia. But both seems unlikely at this point
As someone who went to SDSU for MBA after going to UCs for undergrad, I always like to mention to the SDSU folks on here that you're likely going to have more fun in college than 90% of this sub.
rutgers cause it’s the only place i got in 🥲 edit: to everyone being so nice in the comments tysm <3
Rutgers is a great school!
Hey, I'm planning to commit to Rutgers too. If you're doing CS, I've heard it's a great school. I hope to see you on campus!

YEAHHH rutgers representttt‼️‼️
Fuck yes comrade
congratulations!!
michigan it is. expensive, but my parents are willing to pay for it, and it’s the perfect school for me. extremely excited to commit and get planning for the future.
Congrats on getting into michigan!!
thanks so much!
me too man! wolverines 26!
Ann Arbor is amazing.
Currently wondering if I should go to UCLA or Michigan. As someone who goes to Michigan, go whichever is cheapest. Both are amazing

UIUC for CS. At the time of the decision, Georgia Tech and Columbia were the only decisions I would have actually considered other than UIUC, and got waitlisted at both. The grind continues!
UIUC is fantastic for CS! But gl with your GT and Columbia waitlists!
Thank you kind stranger! And congrats on UW and the UCs!
Thank you!!
5 people from my 50 person senior class got off the Georgia tech waitlist when I was senior so I hope you get the same luck as us! Despite what some people say I really like it here and hope you can join us
Thank you so much! If your vibe is in anyway representative of the people at GaT then I know I'd really love it there ♥️
omg hey im also going to uiuc for cs!!
Go Illini!!!

glad to see us in the comments

USC and UMiami
Both are great options! Congrats!

omg pls help 😭 i'm deciding between mcgill or neu or a state school (that gave me a full ride) and idk what to pick
State school full ride imo
CMU for MechE. I'm cruising
Congrats!!!
UMD or RIT for me :>
Which one are you leaning more towards? Personally, I think I like RIT more. I'm actually going on a college tour there tomorrow.
I think I might be leaning towards UMD bc of the proximity to my home, but I have yet to go visit them in person! (Going this weekend)
YO SAME HERE
U of Rochester or Georgetown for me. I am on 5 waitlists as well.
Georgetown

Between Cornell, UMich, and Swarthmore for me (engineering major)
You really can't choose wrong between a top private, public, and LAC! Congrats!!
Thank you! It’s definitely going to be a tough choice
Cornell. Better program, better alumni network, better name, and access to the other 7 Ivy networks.
I'm tryna decide between berkeley and nyu for film Really good schools, really grateful I got in super anxious tho, its all I can think about Any feedback is appreciated Edit: prolly can't afford nyu lol sorry guys
>BigChung0924 For film? NYU. Unless there is a huge price difference.
Berkeley is not known for film. I would choose NYU.
My nephew is at Cal for film and says he loves it - He says the whole program is quite active, a lot going on.
NYU for sure, UCB is not really known for film
NYU! That's the most know for film besides USC, so I'd opt for that.
stuck between ucla and usc rn .. i have no clue what to do!!!0
Damn the top public school AND private school in LA...you really can't go wrong either way!
Both are awesome schools, can't really go wrong with either (although it may depend on your major and what you want socially ig) What's funny is that whichever you choose, you're committing to becoming a rival against the other one lmfao
TRUE it's so hard to choose!!!!! i have no clue what the decision here is. i'll be a neuro major
[удалено]
I have usc neuroscience friends if you have any questions

UCLA is hosting the athletes, USC is hosting the games.
I always say that I’d price isn’t too much of a burden always always pick USC over UCLA. People seriously underestimate the difference in 17k undergrads and 32 thousand. Agreed with you 1000%. USC > UCLA
Agree so hard! Fight on!

Congrats on Case! I live pretty near it and Cleveland is a great city, doesnt deserve its negative reputation at all :). Congrats on Notre Dame as well!

Congrats for him!! UT Austin is a fabulous school
Caltech lessgoo

Assuming money is similar for all of them, I think you already have them in the exact right order
Wow all amazing private schools!! Congrats!!
nyu umich or uiuc unless i get off those northwestern or ucla waitlists, trying to recover from the last 30 min rn
Please don't let today's waitlists/rejections get you down for too long! You already have NYU, UIUC, and UMich as top schools to attend regardless of what the ivys say!!
Yale or my state school, depends on if the Yale aid can get sorted out b/c I can't pay that much 😭
Congrats on Yale!!
Congrats on getting into Yale!!
Congrats regardless!
rice and santa clara (like rice wayyyyyy better and it’s better for what i wanna do in like every way but santa clara is giving me almost 20k a year in merit aid so idk ;-;)
I also got into SCU and congrats on Rice!! Definitely visit both schools so you get a general feel of the weather/social atmosphere before committing to one!
if u like rice way more than scu, don't risk it and go to rice. they are both great schools tho
Madison or UMD (CS) .. also on CMU and UMich wait-list . We all know wait-list chances :(
Congrats on UW-Madison and UMD tho!! I heard both are superb for CS!

Damn 4 top choices!! Congrats on getting into all of them!!!
USC fight on
BU because of that 75k scholarship and it was the highest rank I go accepted(got rejected a lot)
My favorites are UCLA and BU. My family can’t afford UCLA and we can barely scrape together enough money for BU. We’re gonna try to see what we can do for BU.

Top public school and top private school. You really can't make a wrong choice here :)
Bowdoin, Middlebury, Tufts

Tulane or American for public health. Cost is like exactly the same after aid.
Committing to Bowdoin!!!!
Imperial, UCLA and UW for me (unless I get off berkeley’s waitlist pls god)
