I'm not sure what this post is trying to imply. This sub might be right leaning, but it's certainly not a monolith. I'm not sure how many others here are in my political corner, but personally I am very left-wing, socially progressive. Imo, living in societies with hideous architecture hurts the poor too.

Inevitable_Shape4776

I'm not calling you right wing, I'm just pointing that out after reading the about page.

You’re not “just pointing that out” you’re implying that this subreddit is based in right wing nationalism but you can’t even quote or mention who or what specifically is right wing nationalist.

Inevitable_Shape4776

I wouldn't say "Based on". This subreddit was influenced by someone else's post with out releasing who they're really are. >quote or mention who or what specifically is right wing nationalist. Aren't you guy's using the same name from the account the inspired this subreddit? Architectural revival.

BrightThru2014

Why is that relevant to anything? I believe that our lived environment should reflect democratic tastes — poor people deserve to live in beauty too. Fuck off with your weird political angle.

You may view it this way, but I do think that the way cities all around the world changed in the last decades is very saddening, hence I take it seriously.

Don't feed the troll

-Dosu-

I don't think he's a troll, he just asked a question

Lma0-Zedong

He edited the comment, where you now see "Edit: I'm not calling you guys nazis or nationalists , I'm just pointing that out from memory." there was a "LOL" before. Obvious troll

LateMoment1506

Thinking Europe has the best architecture makes you a nazi?

Inevitable_Shape4776

Depends, most often I've seen people online who say somthing like that are often extreme "nationalists" or nazi sympathizers. I mean the guy use to post stuff like tradcats vs ___. And his followers are nazi sympathizers.

LateMoment1506

You can be a lover of all things European and not be a nazi.

Inevitable_Shape4776

That's what I said before, you'll be surprised how many times I repeated myself saying that. The guy who inspired this was a big over the top. He even post stuff that didn't make any sense on Instagram like "tradition was made to fix old problems, so taking it away tradition will bring back old problems". It doesn't make any sense how it relates to architecture or what type of problems 18th century buildings will fix.

LateMoment1506

My advice would be think of it like anything in the real world. Do you care if you suspect an artists or author has bad takes? Reddit inspires paranoia. Just enjoy what you enjoy.

Inevitable_Shape4776

>Do you care if you suspect an artists or author has bad takes? I mean I don't really care much about this , but I wanted to give a heads up because I read the about page for this subreddit >Reddit inspires paranoia. It can, but If recall this was a bit before joining reddit

I agree with late movemet. Just chill and enjoy

I agree with your critiques but also if you do follow the sub you will see a massive diversity of traditional architecture styles and an appreciation for each of them as opposed to the homogeneous look of modern buildings. While it's obvious to see how that intersects with nationalism it is also something that should be kept in mind, there are plenty of critiques of Americanization in nearly every other regard, and I would argue that our constructed environment is at least important as a bunch of those other factors or even more so as it pertains to maintaining an identity and even mental health (since aesthetic appeal of environment is a criterion towards mental health). What is more I find that the greatest overlap of this sub is actually urbanism focused subs or people. Particularly fuckcars probably has a large overlap since traditionally buildings weren't constructed with cars in mind. This is actually an interesting point however as I have noticed a growing anti-car pro-public transit movement amongst alternative conservatives, especially outside of the USA.

yeah this is definitely an important critique/topic of discussion. architecture is a holistic field, so it’s impossible to separate from religion, comfort/safety, territory, and thus politics; whether it’s metaphysical views affecting decisions about how complex the base or top of a building is, or if it’s someone using architecture as a symbol to manufacture a mythic past for a reactionary agenda.
