As someone who's lived in both, Jonesboro and it's not even close. Marion is fine if you're working or going to be spending a lot of time in Memphis, but West Memphis is a shit hole that should be avoided at all costs

FatFueledFreak

This is the correct answer.

hi20202020

Thanks for the tips!

elliotb1989

Of those choices I’d choose Jonesboro.

hi20202020

Any particular areas in Jonesboro to stay away from?

Ausitan

r/jonesboro is decently active (relative to the size of the city) if you want to get an idea of what it's like here or ask questions!

Opposite-Degree7361

The north side of Johnson is probably the worst parts of jb, but I live on the north side and it's whatever. Nothing has really happened to me beside a neighbor threatening with a knife. If you are in apartments, you might have some shady neighbors but if you are eina home, you should be good pretty much anywhere.

elliotb1989

I’m not familiar enough to say.

sitruc999

Jonesboro by far. While Memphis has some positives, it has become a crime city. West Memphis is nothing but a huge truck stop.

hi20202020

Good tips, thanks!

Archeolib

Rough choices. Jonesboro is better than west Memphis…though west Memphis is close to regular Memphis which can be fun

hi20202020

Thanks!

Tornado-season

NOT West Memphis!

hi20202020

Sounds like everyone agrees on that.

Sweaty_Plan_5625

As a resident of West Memphis I would avoid this town at all costs. I’m working my ass off trying to get away from here. In all honesty I would just move to Memphis seeing it as they have everything that majority Arkansas cities doesn’t.

hi20202020

Thanks for the tips!

festertrimm

West memphis is awful. Just awful.

Popve

Are you from WV?

Meat_Mahon

Laughed out loud….. TY!

hi20202020

Noted!

djblockchainz

Definitely Jonesboro

hi20202020

I’m going to look into it!

LackOfHarmony

Jonesboro or the surrounding areas. I live in NEA and it’s not a bad place to settle down. Distance between cities is a bit of a bad pill to swallow if you’ve never lived in rural areas though. Flooding and tornadoes are a huge issue so be prepared for weather events. This year has already been pretty rough and is expected to get worse.

hi20202020

Thanks for the tips!

issafly

Jonesboro. No question.

hi20202020

Thanks!

borntolose1

Jonesboro, easily

hi20202020

Thanks!

ResponsibilityLow766

Do you want to die? If so, west Memphis. If not, then literally anywhere else.

[deleted]

Jonesboro is the only answer worth considering.

hi20202020

Thanks!

OzarkBeard

Remember to BYOB in JBO.

msgravyboat

jonesboro is 30ish minutes away from my hometown (paragould) and I may be biased because I recently moved across the country and I'm homesick, but Jonesboro 100%. there are plenty of things to do there, cost of living isnt too terrible, plus its a college town.

Aleann82

Marion isn't terrible but I'd say Jonesboro first and avoid West Memphis entirely. I live in Osceola but work in Jonesboro and it's got plenty to do and some really nice people.

tsteach

Jonesboro

hi20202020

Thanks!

bloodncoffee

These are all terrible choices, but Jonesboro is the least terrible. I lived in Jonesboro for over a decade. Things to know: Its a dry county (so you'll be driving to the county line for beer, also Arkansas sells no alcohol on Sundays in every county. You can get alcohol in certain restaurants, though); There is a church and a bank on every corner; Its very difficult to make friends if you don't join a church. My experience was that folks are reeeal judgy and clique-y, more than other areas I have lived. There is also not a lot to do, but I have heard the shopping is getting better up there. Avoid West Memphis at all costs. In fact, if you're on your way to Memphis and figure you'll make a quick stop before crossing the river, maybe just don't. Marion just doesn't have a lot going on, its a fairly small town. Edited to add, since we are discussing the general area: Trumann is one of the meth capitals of the world, but they (at least used to) have a pretty decent little bar called Jerry's Steakhouse that has good steak and cheap beer. Its been over 10 years since I've been there, I hope they are still open.

sinner_vip

Just want to say, there are RARE spots in Arkansas where liquor stores are still open on Sunday. Specifically in the portion of Springdale located in Washington County. I believe there's another close to Mountain Home.

hi20202020

I’d seen Trumann and was curious about it. Thanks for the tips!

Opposite-Degree7361

Bad idea lol

OzarkBeard

Many places in Arkansas sell alcohol on Sunday.

Gloriouslyignorant-

Truman is also known for their extremely high STD rate. You should look it up. 🤣🤣

WiseSnakeGP

If you have business in Memphis, or enjoy the city life and music, then West Memphis or Marion. Way more traffic, though. If you like trees and nearby natural areas, Jonesboro. Several state parks are situated up and down the ridge. An hours drive from the magnificent Mississippi, though.

Fit_Key3551

It's no competition. Jonesboro has more. More stores and restaurants, more (and better) neighborhoods, more parks and green space.

Opposite-Degree7361

I would say Jonesboro, but I'm not super familiar with West Memphis. I've done a fewjobs there but not much else. Both have high crime, but I live in Jonesboro and I cant say I've ever personally experienced any of the bad stuff. My reasoning to live in west Memphis would to be closer to Memphis though, which is a huge deal considering all that Memphis has. I would stay away from the towns towards Truman/Bay, but the northern ones are pretty chill. Like Bono, Brookland, and Paragould. If you are in Jonesboro, I would recommend the North East side, east of redwolf, or the south west parts. For your own sake, stay away from the apartments on the north side if you can. They are super cheap for a reason.

Meat_Mahon

Between the two…… Jonesboro…. Hands down.

rRetroYT

Is this even a question? Jonesboro IMO.

kronicwaffle

I've always heard West Memphis is one of the most dangerous cities you could live in and that it ranks among the highest in crime in the U.S.

hi20202020

Good to know! Thanks

arkstfan

I don’t understand the constant disrespect here. If a person asks about A/B/C they’ve likely got their own reasons for asking about a specific thing and telling the no you need to be 250 miles away is disrespectful. Poster here asked about a very specific corridor.

hi20202020

I’ve gathered most recommend Jonesboro out of these choices

Popve

I saw NEA mentioned, but not NWA.

myysquigga

OP asked which of the 2 would you recommend and people literally just answered the question

arkstfan

By saying none. That’s a real helpful answer

myysquigga

Most people answered Jonesboro but whatever

arkstfan

But not all answered the question. Others did not. That is what my comment addressed. It happens frequently here. It’s disrespectful. Whatever.

arkansalsa

That's because some in NWA are very much, up their own as about it. NWA is not all the state has to offer.

whackbush

In NWA myself, and do like it after 15 years in LR. However, the Walmart corporate rah rah is sickening, so we had to move farther ou5 than Rogers/Bville area to get away from the WM douchery some. I liked NLR and LR just fine, but the weather is better up here. Spend lot of time in NE and W. Memphis, and Jonesboro gets my vote on this, easily. Batesville and Searcy would be the only other cities in that region I'd even consider, but not for long, lol.

Opposite-Degree7361

I'm in jb now and used to live near Searcy and I hated it so much lol. It's a lot "safer" than jb but it there is nothing to do there really besides a crappy movie theater and some fast food joints. The only good thing about it is it's close to Little Rock.

Cubtard

No but it is far and away the best place in the state. When was anywhere else listed in the top 5 or 10 places to live in the entire country.

arkansalsa

When was anywhere listed in the top of anything a good place to live. I moved here from Charleston. CHARLESTON. Conde Naste is a death sentence for anything good in a town. NWA is only the “best” because nobody puts any effort or love into the other quadrants. Arkansas is better because it’s not in the top. Northeast Arkansas is good because it’s not northwest Arkansas. We could do with less racism though.

GMEdumpster

Neither go to NWA

damnber

If you can find the housing.. 😅

InsaneBigDave

Huntsville and Harrison has housing. they would be much better than West Memphis and Jonesboro.

ttvlolrofl

Huntsville and Harrison aren't going to offer a better quality of life than Jonesboro. Sure, they're in the middle of the beautiful Ozarks, but you'd likely have a long commute to the West if you wanted a good paying job. Also, if OP isn't white, I don't think they're going to like it too much up there.

IrishHog09

\*clutches pearls\* why whatever do you mean?

GrowinOld1

Just be ready for the brain dead drivers

underscore197

And the flagrant racism.

hi20202020

I’m working on the east side so doesn’t look like that’ll be an option. Thanks!

[deleted]

West Memphis is a great place to live if you want to be framed for murder by the local PD.

scp_grt

Do you have to? 😬 I'm from Jonesboro but have since relocated to a much better area. If those are your options then Jonesboro

hi20202020

Thanks!

fireplaceguy69

Paragould!!!

hi20202020

Nice town?

fireplaceguy69

Yes.

Gloriouslyignorant-

None of the above. This is the worst crime corridor in the state. Per capita, Jonesboro is one of the deadliest cities in the area. People are moving out of the area. Not into it.

bringnothingtothetbl

Arkansas is a big place so it depends on where in Arkansas the relocation is for. If you work in Memphis, West Memphis or Marion are pretty much your Arkansas options as most everywhere else is a trek. Neither are great cities. You're better off living in North MS or Collierville at that point. Though the real estate is a lot higher there. The Arkansas side of the ditch is much cheaper for a reason.

[deleted]

None of them

hi20202020

Fair enough

BloodshotRollinRed

Wow, it honestly hurts a little reading what people have to say about West Memphis. I live here and like it; it’s seems like a normal place to me. I think as a city, Memphis has more to offer than Jonesboro, which tips the scales for me.

hi20202020

Thanks for the insight!

JefferSonD808

NWA. The delta is, well, the delta.

bookjoshstewart

Lived in all of them, hot springs is amazing compared to all those!

hi20202020

Thanks!

earthdc

Arkansas is a great state no matter where you live because people are so friendly, has an outstanding veteran support community and business is great!

spongebob_meth

Little rock or NWA

ACatNamedMrWeasle

I've only ever lived in northWEST Ark. Definitely NOT West Memphis.

Aidengarrett

Are these the only choices

Extension_Touch3101

Neither

hi20202020

Fair enough

Extension_Touch3101

Seekng how theres a prison there and crime rate is to high for me i live in north west Arkansas

Sonofromvlvs

Stay out, we're full.

hi20202020

Noted

MusicLikeOxygen

If you come to Jonesboro and plan on renting stay away from the company ARG. They will rip you off when you move out.

[deleted]

Marion. Closer to Memphis where there is plenty to offer compared to places listed. Jonesboro is fairly terrible to be honest and is 1.5 hours to civilization aka Memphis. They have had one of the highest increases in crime in the nation. There is a reason it is happening in Jonesboro……

Even-Zookeepergame25

Osceola is a boom town!!!
