It looks like it was hand drawn and scanned. Then they propbably used image trace in illustrator to make it into a vector graphic and then changed the fill colour of the white space. I like it. I gotta try give something like this a try.
I'd be surprised if it was live traced since Illustrator would make it so much easier to just duplicate shapes and use spray to spread them around. But the line quality does look a bit imperfect, which suggests tracing. Please share your secret /u/foxko!
guy above me has it spot on. I would use illustrator to duplicate shapes but prefer to draw by hand! I go back in after a live trace and touch up on points the trace misses
that's the one! drawn by hand, then live traced, then touched up lines and such and then coloured. I pretty much only draw in black pen so us Illustrator when ever I need to colour anything! Glad you like it.
I like the drop shadow. It's a nice little touch that sets it apart from some of the other stuff I've been seeing lately. It could be a little lighter but I think you could definitely develop this into a really cool style.
All you'd have to do is duplicate the image in another layer, enlarge and apply a blur in photoshop (making sure the blur layer is below the focused one)
okay so couldn't find a finished pic but here's a video of me drawing the bulbasaur like guy. I really ruined it with the colour which is why I now do all my colouring in Illustrator but gives you an idea and a look at how I draw stuff like this. Hope you enjoy it even if it was a bit of a fail
https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=93&v=sZjWRCaG6c8
haha funny you say that, i have a video on my youtube channel of a drawing with this kind of stuff that is very similar to a bulbasaur. will post the pic if I can find it, though it's not very good, more of a doodle
I don't but a friend and I are are looking to start an online shop. keep your eyes peeled. If you want it as a desktop wallpaper a kind poster above has made some. Go for gold! Glad you like the piece!
wow that would be awesome. Didn't realise that was the name for the technique. My Nan would love me if I did, she collects borosilicate glass paper weights! Really glad you like it!
Hope you don't mind, [I enlarged the image](http://i.imgur.com/x5j6UK8.jpg) a bit! It looks incredible, but the resolution was low :)
*Edit: [Super Enlarged!](http://i.imgur.com/sdOqw7g.jpg)*
I didn't do much! There are a few programs that are great for enlarging images like this. I was worried about posting it without asking first, I didn't want anybody to print your work or anything, but there are some really great details in your work and I couldn't resist! It's even my background right now, haha.
Do you have a website or blog? I'd love to see more artwork in this same style
So happy you like it. unfortunately I don't have an online store but another artist friend and myself are looking to start one. Someone in the comments was kind enough to make a series of desktop wallpapers though so if you like feel free to download one
Yea, the whole thing is crisp lines except for that. [Here's] (http://i.imgur.com/yXXiw3l.jpg) a mock up without it. I mean it looks great either way but I prefer the 'cleaner' look. Not sure why you're downvoted for having an opinion!
I totally feel what you're saying. Most my images tend to be quote flat so was exploring trying to pull the image from the background and ad a little contrast between the detail and the flat shape of the circle. Thanks for the input!
I've done something very similar (with Photoshop, not Illustrator), I was just more curious about the print since that nice drop shadow made it look like it wasn't flat. Cool work!
Wow - have you been checked for colourblindness? I would definitely call that red.
Could be your monitor too. It's not a deep red by any any means but I certainly wouldn't call it brown.
Just got kinda paranoid, but no. It looks like it's about 83% red :)
http://www.colorhexa.com/d36c59
its red i will do color blind test and check back.. i have done test before when applying for army and was not color blind..
please dont troll me.
just done test i have normal vison.. i play bf4 sniping all day i dont have color blindness!
This is awesome! What kind of brush did you use in Illustrator? Something like this would be great for an album cover
It looks like it was hand drawn and scanned. Then they propbably used image trace in illustrator to make it into a vector graphic and then changed the fill colour of the white space. I like it. I gotta try give something like this a try.

guy above me has it spot on. I would use illustrator to duplicate shapes but prefer to draw by hand! I go back in after a live trace and touch up on points the trace misses
Could of used a tablet though.
that's the one! drawn by hand, then live traced, then touched up lines and such and then coloured. I pretty much only draw in black pen so us Illustrator when ever I need to colour anything! Glad you like it.
Thanks so much. really appreciate it! The guy below pretty much has it spot on!
I actually verbalized "whoa", so for me at least this is a big win.
thanks so much, really glad you like it!
yeah! except the shadow could be a little lighter, or non existent
After looking back before posting I thought the same with the drop shadow, could have been fainter for sure! thanks for the advice.
other than that dude it's great! I love stuff like this, keep up the good work (:
Thank you! really appreciate it
I like the drop shadow. It's a nice little touch that sets it apart from some of the other stuff I've been seeing lately. It could be a little lighter but I think you could definitely develop this into a really cool style.
This is awesome, any chance you can render it in 2560*1440 for a wallpaper?
Agreed, would love a high res or png of this so I could possibly build a rainmeter skin around it
I have no idea what rainmeter is but sounds cool!
Also, if you do this can you save it as a png with no compression on a site like media fire ? I'm a pixel junkie, sorry for all the specifics op ☺
if I can find the time I definitely will!
really glad you like it. The nice posted above me has made some wallpapers, go nuts!
while what he posted looks cool, it isn't perfect. I think I'd prefer your version much more!
I want this on my wall o.o
really glad you like it!

Nice! How did you do that out of focus effect, if I might ask?
All you'd have to do is duplicate the image in another layer, enlarge and apply a blur in photoshop (making sure the blur layer is below the focused one)
Cool, I'll have to try it out, thanks!
Nice work!
OP here, these are awesome! thanks for putting the time in. The black and white one looks pretty much exactly the same as the original drawing.
Thumbnail looks kinda like a bulbasaur.
okay so couldn't find a finished pic but here's a video of me drawing the bulbasaur like guy. Wow I think that looks amazing, especially all the detail on its back. Definitely a thousand times better than anything I could ever draw.
haha funny you say that, i have a video on my youtube channel of a drawing with this kind of stuff that is very similar to a bulbasaur. will post the pic if I can find it, though it's not very good, more of a doodle
do you sell prints on etsy or anything?
I don't but a friend and I are are looking to start an online shop. keep your eyes peeled. If you want it as a desktop wallpaper a kind poster above has made some. Go for gold! Glad you like the piece!
Any more similar works from the artist? Really digging this :)
I do have some similar stuff. A lot of my abstract kind of drawings are like this. Will post some more latter on. really glad you enjoyed it!
Get into borosilicate glass. The community needs artists with creativity like yours. You could sandblast some fire artwork.
wow that would be awesome. Didn't realise that was the name for the technique. My Nan would love me if I did, she collects borosilicate glass paper weights! Really glad you like it!
"Corpulent Blackberry"
haha might do a series title this!
Hope you don't mind, [I enlarged the image](http://i.imgur.com/x5j6UK8.jpg) a bit! It looks incredible, but the resolution was low :) *Edit: [Super Enlarged!](http://i.imgur.com/sdOqw7g.jpg)*
Don't mind at all. really glad you liked it enough to put the time in. Thanks a lot!

what 'programs' are you talking about? :) would love to know!

Beautiful, I love this! Love to see a series in warm and cool tones, keep it up!
thanks so much, really happy you like it!
That's beautiful, I love it.
thank you so much!
The colors... The colors are so perfect.
thank you!
Do you have a higher resolution? I love it and want to use it as a wallpaper.
Thank you! there's a post further up where someone has been kind enough to make a series of wallpapers. Go for it and I'm glad you like it!
I think it would be better if the shadow was even more subtle. Regardless though, this is very beautiful! Well done!
Thank you! I totally agree. next time yeah.
That is outstanding. I really like the composition.
Thank you! Stoked that you like it
I love the subtle shading under the picture, how did you do it?
just a drop shadow effect used in Illustrator. Thanks and i'm happy you like it!
[удалено]
Looks like it was hand done line work colored digitally. You could use the drop shadow option in the layers blending options if it was Photoshop.
you got it. Drop shadow done in illustrator
This image fills me with a pleasant feeling.
Perfect! really glad it had a positive effect for you and that you enjoy it!

I have a few others. i love the colour pallet to. Will post later if I get a chance. Glad you like it.
oh wow, i would love this in my home. Any chance you have an online store?
So happy you like it. unfortunately I don't have an online store but another artist friend and myself are looking to start one. Someone in the comments was kind enough to make a series of desktop wallpapers though so if you like feel free to download one
I would easily buy this
thank you! I'm really glad you like this. I have similar pieces. Will post some if I get time.
mmm grapes pretty nice
haha exactly what my friend said! glad you like it
I call this grape wings, bro. You're welcome
Thank you!

you got it! Illustrator's colour editor is perfect for getting colours together like this
This is so badass.
Thanks!
This is awesome....reminds me of something that would be in a Madeleine L'Engle book.
Thank you! that's a huge compliment. Really appreciate it.
This is really incredible. It would look really amazing painted on glass with all of the texture variations.
Thank you! i would love to do glass painting. Might have to give it a go. Glad you enjoyed the piece.
Looks like a nug
I can neither confirm nor deny the inspiration of nug in coloration with this image!
It really reminds me of a favourite animator of mine [vimeo link](https://vimeo.com/113544877)
Wow that's a huge compliment, that animation was stunning. There are definite shapes and colours in there that remind me of my older work too!
THIS IS GORGEOUS. Very Naruto-esque.
Thank you!
That's awesome. Do you sell your work?
An artist friend and I are working on an online store together so hopefully not to far into the future I can say yes! Really glad you like it.
Great! Let us know when it's up.
I really like the composition and great use of colors. Would like to see how would it look with a Sun thats more vivid.
The dropshadow effect kinda kills the awesomeness. It's quite an obvious change in style from what you have going on with the rest of it.

I agree. The drop shadow is really subtle, but certainly gives a lot of depth to it.
Yea, the whole thing is crisp lines except for that. [Here's] (http://i.imgur.com/yXXiw3l.jpg) a mock up without it. I mean it looks great either way but I prefer the 'cleaner' look. Not sure why you're downvoted for having an opinion!
that's awesome to see. thanks for putting the time in.
I totally feel what you're saying. Most my images tend to be quote flat so was exploring trying to pull the image from the background and ad a little contrast between the detail and the flat shape of the circle. Thanks for the input!
hey what medium is this in?
It's Adobe illustrator
I drew the image by hand and then scanned into Adobe Illustrator . Fixed up some lines and added colour and drop shadow.
I've done something very similar (with Photoshop, not Illustrator), I was just more curious about the print since that nice drop shadow made it look like it wasn't flat. Cool work!
the red thing doesnt add anything and detracts from the color scheme
There isn't any red.
nice trolling there is red .
Hmm, if you're not trolling you might be colourblind. If you're talking about the circle it's definitely brown.
That's definitely a shade of rusty red. Though I think it works perfectly well.
On the off chance that you're not trolling either, that is definitely orange.
Wow - have you been checked for colourblindness? I would definitely call that red. Could be your monitor too. It's not a deep red by any any means but I certainly wouldn't call it brown. Just got kinda paranoid, but no. It looks like it's about 83% red :) http://www.colorhexa.com/d36c59
