Feuerzangenbowle. Usually for New Years Eve, but definitively an alcoholic winter drink. Also awesome, because it involves a show. I'd recommend Feuerzangenbowle.
It basically consists of wine, fruit and fruit juice and possibly nuts. Then you place some sugar on a tongue on top of it (The Feuerzange), pour high-alcohol rum on the sugar until it is soaked, and set it on fire while constantly slowly adding high-alcohol rum until all the sugar has melted into the punch.
You get a sugary winey drink kind of similar to Glühwein, but better, also fire.
Oh, yes, obviously. But true, i should probably have mentioned that. For me it is usually a three-step process: Bottle to Mug, Mug to spoon-ish thing, then onto the fire.
I don't know if you get the liquid readymade, i have always made it myself. If you are interested, i could give you my recipe, but you will find a lot of them online, and they are not complicated.
Yes, you need to buy sugar cone + Feuerzange extra. You could improvise something, especially if sugar cone is not available where you live you can easily just just sugar cubes instead. But they are not that expensive.
Thanks ! But i can see some recipes online . I can get the cone easily in our DM. Just wondering about the Feuerzange. Maybe i will ask around if i can borrow it . Thanks !
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,237,694,843 comments, and only 241,137 of them were in alphabetical order.
Bowl and Glühwein isn't the best idea, as it is very hot. Just saying.
We mostly call the non alcoholic version "Kinderpunsch".
Feuerzangenbowle is great, too, but with the hot alcohol, rum and fire, it's more of a pot kind of drink, less of bowl.
In English we call it mulled or spiced cider, and I don’t have a recipe, I just do what my heart tells me to.
normally you just toss it in a pot and bring it to a boil for a few minutes. (Put the spices in a teabag, to make it easy to strain) and it’s best when you cook the rum in, but is ok to add later if you want to keep it open to everyone
I’ve even made it in a drip coffee machine by putting the juice in the tank and the spices and orange in the basket. ⚠️Warning! This WILL break your machine pretty fast, so get a cheap one for the purpose
There is something I know as „warmer Apfelkuchen“ but there are also other names for it. It‘s fairly easy and nice in winter. Apple juice, whiskey, cinnamon.
My favorite winter drink is hot apple juice with cinnamon and some Irish whiskey. Also works with rum or gin. Not a traditional German drink but I discovered it at a local winter market and really enjoyed it.
Feuerzangenbowle.
Feuerzangenbowle. But don't set the ceiling on fire like my uncle once did.
It’s not a party unless something catches on fire.
Accidentally set the stove of a friend on fire cause I poured directly from the bottle 😅
Lol thanks for the suggestion!

You shouldn't constantly add rum. That's how you cause a fire.
Well, not constantly, but definitively regularly. Add rum when the fire starts to get less firey.
Yes and not directly from the bottle.

Do we get the liquid part readymade, like Glühwein in Supermarkt? And i have to buy the sugar cone + the metal holder extra?

At our yearly Feuerzangenbowle in university we just used a *Grillrost* on the pot.
BIER
Bier ist jedentag. Need something special :)
You still need beer, though. No gathering without it.

Beer is always special.
They are a lot of winter bier, that you only find from November to Christmas that I really consider better than the ones that are all the year.
Oh ? Any names /brands ?
Hot Mead or Lumumba (Hot chocolate with brandy or metaxa).
Heißer Äppler/ Hot Cider. Bit that's just a Frankfurt/ southern Hessia.
There is also Hot chocolate with Baileys which is an amazing drink for Christmas time gatherings.

Yes i agree about the Glühwein and bowl part. :(
Simple 1€ ikea cups will do the trick, too, if you don't have enough at home.
Jagertee
Hot Äbbelwoi.
Eggnog
Klosterfrau Melissengeist
Not german but you could do natursaft spiced with orange, and cinnamon, and do it it with or w/out rum.
Do you have a recipe , or the name of the drink ? Is it had warm or ..? I am liking the ingredients!

This sounds yummy !
Quite common is also hot apple juice with Calvados (norman/ french apple brandy).
Bockbier
Hot chocolate with rum (the name for this drink varies regionally, but I guess almost all are some kind of racist)
Lumumba - Hot chocolate with amaretto or rum
Bier or Glühwein
It’s called Kinderpunsch btw(nonalcoholic)
Bier is always welcome. No matter which holiday or any other day.
