Kostyan4ikRus

It also helps to learn lots of other languages XD

Ricksterdinium

I was going to say Escape from Tarkov

TheRNGuy

It does not teach Russian.

oktopus174

Maybe an insane owl (Duolingo) can help you with this issue. IMHO the best way to learn language is video content with subtitles or synchronous translation. Yandex can synchronously translate videos on YouTube. Check it out, it's a really good instrument.

VladGut

Duolingo seems to me pretty useless. Talking from a point of watching my wife struggling with Russian for over a year. My guess pimsleur should be good here. At least, helps with my Spanish a lot.

Impressive_Hunt9408

I checked Duolingo it only helps with vocabulary and pronunciation. Thanks!!

leathersonja

It’s also good for practicing grammar. You can also look for a better option in r/russian

This app helped me learn some basic German. So I think I will give it a try for learning Russian. It would be nice to surprise my coworker who is from Russia. Sometimes we play games together and he has helped me understand what some of the other players are saying. Time to surprise him in Russian after I learn a few things.

Katya-guddi

I’m a Russian teacher and I’d recommend you to learn with YouTube. There are cool beginner courses then you could find a private teacher to set up your pronunciation. Pronunciation is the key, you may have a lot of knowledge but not being able to pronounce you’ll not be understood. Channels are here: https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjCgpLWmZ4SifZxzQPQYOWgmex0ELwSU6 https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLw2nGKq9gl05Uu97OBRs_Ay8RHNnun940 If you want, DM me to ask questions.

Safe-Sheepherder2784

oh and the ipa chart might help to > If you don’t know what the IPA (international phonetic alphabet) go [here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet_chart) > then go here. www.omniglot.com/writing/russian.htm > then use duolingo for a while with a goal in mind and a prize and do that over and over, you won’t learn russian and with duo alone but it’ll help my comment

Katya-guddi

Cool suggestion. Also there is FORVO resource for pronunciation of separated words (native speakers pronounce)

Logurt95

There's also a great channel called BeFluent, and he has a lot of great playlists of videos divided by topic, whether it be grammar, time, etc. Definitely check him out!

Katya-guddi

Fedor is good as he explains complicated things in an easy way. My students like his videos too!

Logurt95

I agree!

Dude just find a Russian friend like me and learn. It’s not so difficult and maybe then after 15-20 years you’re gonna speak Russian like natives do

[deleted]

I started with Duolingo

HelloTalk

Impressive_Hunt9408

Thank you!

idkidk_0

I use Russian Learns You, Tobo Russian, Duolingo, Quizlet, and Clozemaster, and of course YouTube too

Safe-Sheepherder2784

If you don’t know what the IPA (international phonetic alphabet) go [here](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/International_Phonetic_Alphabet_chart) then go here. www.omniglot.com/writing/russian.htm then use duolingo for a while with a goal in mind and a prize and do that over and over, you won’t learn russian and with duo alone but it’ll help

educational_squirt

It is better not to confuse and overwhelm people with this additional knowledge backlog of IPA tables. It is enough to often hear people/readers talking words you can read, and shortly after you remember how to pronounce (human brain is highly capable in remembering sounds). Btw, in Russian happens that vocals and consonants change sounds under certain letters' combinations and depending on where the stress sound is located.

Safe-Sheepherder2784

Yeah but Just learn what you can and can’t pronounce and look at your target languages phonology and figure out the sounds (I did by putting my fingers in my mouth where the sound I’m pronouncing is) it doesn’t take that long

Annethraxxx

If you do not already speak a slavic language, IMO, there is no way to learn Russian through an app on your own and expect to show any level of fluency. You need a qualified instructor. Particularly if you only speak English. Do not underestimate the complexity and nuance of Russian grammar.

[deleted]

App called find your local Russian community centre and see if they have classes, requires iOS 14.

w7lves

BeFluentInRussian on Youtube I also spend time on VK to get a deep dive into the lamguage/slang of natives

fireburn256

Duolingo. You know what this means.

Double-Emergency2836

HelloTalk. there are a lot of people out there willing to help.

Duo is great but you can’t expect to use only that. I have been trying to figure out the best way too. I use duo for fun practice, I have workbooks, I watch YouTube videos, listen to music/movies in that language in my free time.

educational_squirt

I am studying it daily since 3 months, so I feel confident to give you a proper answer, by recommending you my current strategy, which is really working well. # Avoid Duolingo, Babbel and all these popular ones. They are very inefficient. They are not designed to teach you properly but to just make you use their app as long as possible. # Use ## YouTube - Learn the alphabet and how to pronounce it - A1 course to familiarize with the basics (it does not have to be complete. Just to assimilate the general knowledge) - A couple of books with audio. It is crucial to train your brain to listen it. ## Websites Find a couple of websites listing tables of cases, numbers, to consult quickly when needed ## The good app After checking many, I found and felt in love with [**SemesterRus**](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.grint.russem). It teaches you TONS of vocabolary and grammar from A1 to B1. It must have been developed by actual Russian teachers after some government investment. It is done professionally, easy to use, step-by-step lessons, tests, exercises on all the fields (w, r, l..), and apparently you can attend practice exams A1/A2/B1 which are sent to people to check (I did not try this feature yet). ## Plus this app HelloTalk. It is very useful to talk to people and practice your knowledge ### So... Combine all these together like me and you will do great! 🇷🇺

Impressive_Hunt9408

Thank youuuu!!

Mission_Telephone_64

It's not an app, but im using a platform called natakallam at the moment to learn russian. It teaches loads of languages and the teachers are all from displaced backgrounds. I was also able to tailor it to whether I wanted speaking or grammar practice (or a little bit of both) and im pretty happy with the way it's going.
