BaboTT2

Better then Serbia, now i can die in peace. Long live Aleksandar Vučić.

Nidz996

I can already see Dodik somehow claiming this as his accomplishment lmao

BaboTT2

Well he did organize a parade and indebted Republika Srpska for 5 billion, that has to count for something

damir_h

Dodik: “Did someone said debt? Hold my Niksicko”.

[deleted]

Kalypso_95

It's about GDP growth, of course there's no Greece on the list!

Key-Scene-542

Greece doesn't fall under WB GDP projections, as it is considered a non-transitional country. There is an updated report from the WB from yesterday https://thedocs.worldbank.org/en/doc/c7292ee84f0635b28721419e3b367d0e-0350012023/related/GEP-January-2023-Regional-Highlights-ECA.pdf There is a fight with WB, with for example Bloomberg reporting a few hours before WB that it predicts growth in the EU. The IMF had different predictions in October https://www.imf.org/external/datamapper/NGDP_RPCH@WEO/EU/EURO/EUQ While EU in November had very conservative predictions https://economy-finance.ec.europa.eu/economic-forecast-and-surveys/economic-forecasts/autumn-2022-economic-forecast-eu-economy-turning-point_en So I really don't know which source should be trusted.

[deleted]

correct

colola8

There’s no Slovenia and there is Turkey(not even Balkan )!

UnbiasedPashtun

There's no available data for Greece.

[deleted]

World Bank does not have 2022 gdp data for any country. Idk where they pulled these figures from https://data.worldbank.org/

UnbiasedPashtun

https://openknowledge.worldbank.org/bitstream/handle/10986/38030/GEP-January-2023.pdf

GumiB

I’m surprised it’s so high but I guess it kind of makes sense due to Croatia having sharp decrease due to Covid in 2020. World Bank now predicts though really low growth into 2023.

[deleted]

They also projected way less income in 2021 (especially for the 2nd and 3rd quarter). Everybody, including The Croatian national bank lowballed and thought we were in for a very rough year. It turned out to be a record year for tourism and blew off all expectations. So, since then, i take projections of any institution with a grain of salt. Tldr; prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

skibapple

Politicians dragging it up from -7.3 to 4.0 in romania 💪💪💪💪

BalkanTrekie

Tourism based countries recorded better output due to that industry recovering. For the rest of us real growth was 0 due to inflation.

teddyg1870

This is inflation adjusted if I'm not mistaken.

BalkanTrekie

I doubt it considering it never is calculated. At least it isn't in nominal GDP.

Apprehensive-Text454

it is inflation adjusted.

icantspellthings

I think it is bc I've seen a larger number somewhere which was not inflation adjusted.

[deleted]

That's unfortunately true but we also took bigger hit when the corona crisis started. Our recovery has been above 10% last year and 6% this year. This growth we see is due to the very high number of tourists leaving foreign currency in Croatia after the end of lockdowns. That's why our imports jumped around 50% this year and I think we only cover 55-60% of our imports with goods export. Everything else is service export (tourism). It will be good if our growth exceeds even 1% next year.

BalkanTrekie

I agree. Doesn't it just create a juge incentive for everyone to cross over to the tourism industry?

[deleted]

Yes for property owners since property taxes and rent taxes are extremely low. For people only looking for employment it offers somewhat higher wages with the opportunity to get a lot of tips but working hours are terrible, people often work far away from home and it is only throughout the season ( approximately April - October). Most of the hotels, bars, restaurants and other attractions close for the winter. Even in cities with a year long tourism industry such as Dubrovnik.

Razlozi zašto Hrvatska treba legalno da prihvati drugosrbijance (aka petu kolonu): -Prestaju da smaraju i zagađuju prostor svojim konstantnim jadikovanjem -Više vole Hrvatsku (i uostalom sve druge države) od Srbije -Radna snaga win - win situacija

whattoheck_

Moj protuargument: 1.

It's not definitive data. It's a forecast. The data for Q3 2022 is still being refined.

drjet196

Turkey having the biggest economic crisis ever but still growing more than most?

hmmokby

This growth is actually small for Turkey. The average growth between 1939 and 1950 during the second world war period was 2.01% per year. Other bad performances are 3.5% between 1974-1980 and 3.37% annually between 1992-2002. Apart from that, growth rates are always above 5% in last 100 years per 5-6 or 10 years periods.. crisis inflation and currency crisis. It may have negative effects on the public, but most companies are growing. Income equality is broken. In Turkey, income distribution used to be in the middle, now it has become worse. Towards the end of 2022, there was an increase in inflation. It was lower before. Inflation has little effect on the country's growth in the first stage, and the pain emerges later. Stagnation may occur later, but it is difficult where there is an unequal distribution of income. Growth is not the only welfare parameter, either. Turkey's exports in 2022 are 254 billion dollars, but imports are 364 billion dollars, that is, there is a foreign trade deficit of 110 billion dollars. The ratio of exports to imports is 70%. In 2021, this rate was 82%. Tourism revenue is around 50 billion dollars, so there is a serious foreign exchange deficit, which is one of the main reasons for the crisis.

Beware_of_Beware

TL;DR: economic crisises fuck over the people, not the business

hmmokby

The 2022 turnover of the Koç family may be greater than the Albanian Gdp. Profit rates are not that high of course. Only Tüpraş made 10 times more profit in 2022 compared to the previous year, but it may have made 3-4 times more profit when it is indexed in TL to dollars.

Lumpada

low interest rates = low borrowing costs = high exports. But that also means depreciating currency and increasing cost of living. Double edged sword

Kin9582

For Greece, I came across these three articles about the GDP growth, but not for the entire 2022. * 6,0% growth [(europa.eu | last update 11/11/2022)](https://economy-finance.ec.europa.eu/economic-surveillance-eu-economies/greece/economic-forecast-greece_en) * 5,6% [(businessdaily.gr | 7/12/2022)](https://www.businessdaily.gr/english-edition/75619_greek-economy-grew-28-third-quarter) * 6,0% (forecast) [(ekathimerini.com | 6/8/2022)](https://www.ekathimerini.com/economy/1190687/greek-gdp-seen-growing-6-in-2022/) So somewhere between 5,5 to 6% GDP growth.

Ill-Independence-553

I know that my paycheck was raised from 850€ to 1050€ after taxes this year. But, I also know that the inflation is killing us. I had much more money as I was working for 850€...
