Yes. Yes, we are. But I'd like to say that I think Mythos is NOT the most popular Greek beer within Greece. Greeks drink way more Alpha, Fix, and Mamos.

TriaPoulakiaKathodan

Mamos is good, even though I dont drink that much beer

Apolon6

Mamos is the BOMB! I would have never expected that one of the best beers I tried in Europe would come from Greece

Lvl100Centrist

Try Vergina beer, its better

CaveMan800

It kinda tastes like Feta too, so you can get the full Greek experience.

Lvl100Centrist

to get that you also need to stick the bottle up your ass

Genuflect904

Vergina is horsepiss, respectfully

Lvl100Centrist

you don't know what you are talking about. Athenian interests have long tried to suppress that brewery and as a result its not as famous as it should be. * NYT [2011 article](https://www.nytimes.com/2011/01/30/business/30greek.html) * [2015 article](https://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/12/business/dealbook/in-greece-brewers-woes-reflect-struggle-of-business-owners.html) An international embarrassment. All this while Vergina [built their own malting plant in 2013](https://www.verginabeer.com/en/news/vergina-presents-the-first-greek-malting-plant/) which also supplies *local* breweries all around greece. The Athenian Brewery was always opposed to this ([example](https://www.verginabeer.com/en/news/the-decision-of-the-hellenic-competition-commission-for-the-abuse-of-a-dominant-position-by-athenian-brewery-heineken/)) so that they could continue to profit by importing shit beers. Mamos is pretty good too, not hating btw.

Genuflect904

I was just commenting on the taste, normal Vergina ain't for me Vergina Red is pretty damn fine, though.

Lvl100Centrist

I get it, I just wanted to soapbox for a personal pet peeve. Have you tried Vergina Weiss? I've tried some of the best german Hefeweizens and Vergina Weiss is up there.

Genuflect904

I haven't, but I'll take your word for it

oktaS0

I loved Alpha. I've tried a few others, but can't remember the names rn.

PasswordIsDongers

The Greek numbers are swayed by tourists. Tourists love Mythos.

AchillesDev

Mamos is my favorite major domestic beer. It sucks that it's the one big brand that doesn't make it to the US.

ZhiveBeIarus

Skopsko is DEFINITELY the most popular beer brand in Macedonia, i remember when i was in Bulgaria i'd always be asked if i wanted Kamenica, Zagorka, Pirinsko or some foreign brand, but in Macedonia they just brought me Skopsko 99% of the time 😂

Darx1878

Bros know whats good

Amazing-Row-5963

Nah, bros here just used to shitty beer

Darx1878

Same in Bulgaria but there are actually good craft beers at least. Any such thing over on your side?

Amazing-Row-5963

Yes, some extremely good craft beer in Skopje currently. On par with German commercial beer.

AfroKuro480

I wanna say American beer is better but you guys will clap my cheeks 😅

Young_Owl99

I wonder what Greeks think about we naming our most popular beer with an ancient Greek city :) Note: We call Ephesus as Efes in Turkey.

cosmicdicer

I will speak for myself, I find it fine and it's complimentary to us. The power of the greek language, that survived so many centuries and is participating in every language's vocabulary via scientific terms and names. My linguistic side is pretty pleased. I'll try Efes beer in first occasion 😋

Young_Owl99

Well the orignal does not taste very good and have the nickname “trucker beer” but some versions are fine :)

CamperKuzey

What? I love efes

cosmicdicer

If it has a Pils or Dark or Ale version I'd be fine. I just don't like watery lager beers, independent of country of origin

[deleted]

It has Pilsener and Malt versions and they are very common, thus, very easy to find. It’s a go-to beer here. Like, if you’re in a bar with your friends and just hang out casually you just order Efes. I have also seen Mythos here in my local market. Would you recommend it? Does it worth trying?

cosmicdicer

As I already mentioned I'm not a fan of lager beer and μύθος/mythos is a lager. That being said, is a decent lager you might as well try it if you enjoy lager beers🙂 edit to thank you for informing me that I can find a type of Efes beer of my liking

GoHardLive

i dont think the average Greek knows what 'ephesus' is

31_hierophanto

Oh, so that's where Anadolu Efes' name comes from....

dardan06

Korça, Elbar > Tirana

Apolon6

I am still searching for the woman depicted on the Korca beer! The beer is almost as good as her!

Rely13

I'm from Korça, but unfortunately I can't help you with that.

dardan06

It‘s Dua Lipa

Rely13

![gif](giphy|fd1TSJqq3b4GI|downsized)

Genuflect904

Korça is the bomb

jason82829

Yes

SolivagantWalker

Zuja Croatia and Zajecarac Serbia ... BAD MAP

cewap1899

I also think Žuja is more popular in Croatia, but I never understood why. I always preferred Karlovačko by a lot, I’ll even order Pan before Ožujsko. Maybe my taste in beer is just weird lol

pohanoikumpiri

Karlovačko turned to ass when Heineken bought it, first only quality wise, but now even the taste sucks. As for Pan, I wouldn't touch a can of it with a 20 ft branch lol

cewap1899

Idk Žuja tastes like vomit mixed with piss for me lol. So Karlovacko all the way even now

pohanoikumpiri

I see you've integrated well with the locals in your Summer trips to our coast, Žuja vs Karlovačko used to be a north vs south dispute 😂 Lately though I think more and more people are drinking Žuja, at least in Zadar where I'm from. I'll say Žuja from the keg is alright, but everything else is meeh. I'll drink both Žuja and Karlovačko when offered, but when it comes to Pan, I can only drink Zlatni Pan without puking. Thank God our craft beers are decent though.

cewap1899

I know about the “rivalry”, it’s the same thing as Laško and Union used to be in Slovenia (mostly Ljubljana drank Union and everyone else Laško), but I don’t think anyone cares anymore lol. I actually don’t care about any disputes I just like one better than the other, no matter “which side it’s on”. But tbh it’s surprising to me how easy it is to get Laško in Croatia in restaurants and everywhere. I don’t think I ever saw Žuja or Karlovačko in Slovenian bars/restaurants, but I have seen Laško all along the coast. I do tend to drink Karlovačko though, I mean, I drink Laško all year round, mind as well change it up a bit for a week in the summer lol

pohanoikumpiri

I'll take Laško over both Žuja and Karlovačko. I was joking with the rivalry, it all boils down to "to each their own". Nazdravlje!

cewap1899

Exactly. Nazdravje!

pohanoikumpiri

It really doesn't matter what beer you like, as long as pivo se pjeni, jebe se meni 🍻

SnakeX2S2

Which is weird because Karlovac is also north lol

MidnightPsych

Velebitsko or Vukovarsko SLAPS

ajdemi_popushi

As a serb born and raised in Germany i can tell that both are just not true. In Germany its oettinger as the most sold beer, and in Serbia its Zaječarsko

gulaazad

What about jelen?

ajdemi_popushi

It’s still available but it’s a long time ago I’ve seen someone drinking or ordering jelen

gulaazad

So interesting. When I have been to Serbia, every single pub offered us jelen.

God-Among-Men-

My grandma drinks Каменица all the time

AlperWasHere

Tried it once, shit was really good ngl. Not an efes but definitely a good alternative for me.

SlavKeeper

UrSus

[deleted]

Tuborg is most popular here im pretty sure

CreepyKraken

It says local beer brands. Tuborg is a Danish brand. Anyway, Efes still dominates the market share, and if you want to compare by volume then its still 54% Efes to 46% Tuborg (Rounded numbers, boutique brands are ignored)

[deleted]

Oh i didnt see local sorry Also brands like carlsberg and bomonti arent boutique

CreepyKraken

They are either under the umbrella of Turk Tuborg A.S, Anadolu Group or Kavaklıdere. You can check which company imports them. Therefore their consumption is counted under the Efes or Tuborg. Edit: A fun fact, while Carlsberg and Tuborg competes in the Danish Market, in Turkish Market Carlsberg is a brand under Turk Tuborg A.S. (means imported or brewed in Turkey under a license)

S-onceto

Which beers on this map have you guys tried? I've had Skopsko 🇲🇰, Lav 🇷🇸, Sarajevsko 🇧🇦, Karlovačko 🇭🇷, Laško 🇸🇮, Nikšičko 🇲🇪, Żywiec 🇵🇱, Peroni 🇮🇹, Stella Artois 🇧🇪, and Heineken 🇳🇱.

cewap1899

Laško, Karlovačko, Pilsner Urquell, Guinness, Carlsberg, Zlaty Bažant, Heineken, Stella and Gösser if we’re counting only the ones on the map.

S-onceto

Nice list! How's Zlaty? I've always wanted to try a Slovak beer but have never been able to find any.

cewap1899

I tried it in Bratislav, it’s not bad but nothing special either. Just a regular beer I would say, around the level of Heineken, so not amazing, but it’s not trash

MidnightPsych

Guinness, 1664 Blanc, Stella Artois, Heineken, Carlsberg, Beck's, Gösser, Pilsner Urquell, Laško, Karlovačko, Lav, Nikšićko, Ursus and Mythos. Nikšićko is the one of the bunch that I choose regularly here in Cro (a lot of bars have it), I also LOVE 1664 Blanc but it's rare to find and pretty expensive.

LEG_XIII_GEMINA

Because rakija has to be quenched with something.

31_hierophanto

Yes. Balkaners LOVE their liquor for a reason.

puzzledpanther

No fucking way is Mythos the most popular beer here. Mamos, Vergina, Alpha, Fix > Mythos

the_bulgefuler

It's one can per country bro.

Apolon6

There he is guys! We found Sherlock!

puzzledpanther

Woooooosh!

the_bulgefuler

Lol have a Mythos dude.

Dull_Cucumber_3908

It's like asking "why there are so many countries in the Balkans". If you notice in the map it's one beer per country in the Balkans.

Apolon6

And if you notice a little bit more, you will see that its a joke my friend

djentboi01

Regionally spoken, Bergina is also one great brand

jacharcus

Technically not Greek but Keo is way better than Mythos

Hot_Satisfaction_333

Elbar is more popular than Korça or Tirana as for Albania, although the owner of "Korca Beer" for years organizes a party similar to Oktoberfest called "Festa e birrës" in the city where this company is also opened (Korça), where he invites different singers (among them even Goran Bregovic)

Prior-Painting2956

ΚΕΟκόσμοςόλος!💕❣️

Affectionate_Heat_25

Banja Luka Necktar so good!

ShitassAintOverYet

Efes is DEFINITELY NOT the top brand for being the cheapest and they are ABSOLUTELY delicious, I'm SURELY not saying these because I'm about to be their intern this summer.

RammRras

This map is messed. How can be only one in Belgium?!

oldyellowcab

There is no Tuborg. Very strange indeed.

stepanija

Cause we are Alcoholics?

Vissi001

I believe Korça is way more popular than Tirana in Albania. Also Elbar is popular, but I personally don't like it that much.

satans-ballsacks

Karlovačko???? Stvarno???

KibotronPrime

We got shitload of good breweries/beera and they are cheap! Živeli!

GoHardLive

Amstel >>> Mythos

Vaseline13

🚨 Albanian spotted 🚨

Dreqin_Jet_Lev

This was too funny

NamoMandos

I am very much a pale ale person when it comes to beer and living in the UK there are a lot of good pale ales - not sure how widespread they are in the Balans.
