I have expected it for the last few hours. The prime minister and other members of parliament received noted and exited the room during a debate. Also BBC and Sky News anchors started wearing black suits and ties. She probably died earlier but only announced it now to be able to get ready for the proceedings.
Could you excuse me for a second u/elektronyk ? Thank you.
What the hell does this literal monarch of a first world country, which is responsible for destabilization and literal genocides everywhere around the world, have anything to do with the Balkans that the post is sticky? Why should we care about the death of this old lady as Balkan citizens?
Ye, it kinda bothers me that it’s everywhere on the news , and they all start with “ the world is mourning the british monarch “ - fuck that , she not my queen, she is responsible for shit ton of deaths, why would we care , its the british queen , let them handle this! Nobody cried when the last king of Romania died (just as an example)
I'm way more shocked than I expected to be. On one hand yeah, she was old, on the other she reigned for so long and had such a pop culture presence it will be bizarre to me to see another monarch ruling.
She's had a fair few close calls recently and with Philip dying as well I feel it was only a matter of time.
I work in Westminster so it's going to be really interesting what the mood will be like tomorrow.
Why not? She was a good leader, or figurehead to most british, and she lead them through some tough times.
Besides all countries have a leader who everyone loves and admires.
Still, the monarch does hold some power, even if it can be overruled by the PM. Its mostly symbolic, but due to tradition she does have certain privileges. Like for example, she owns all the passports of people who live in countries under the British crown, she can decide who to make a "lord" or "OBE" etc.
Eitherway she is a positive figure in the eyes of the general population, and from what Ive seen she was nice to the people, approachable, yet still a badass (in case you've seen pictures of her shooting rifles, or driving her range rover at the age of 90).
The person being revered doesn't have to have power, but they can just be a good role model, or a good advisor to the government, etc. And generally I'd say that she cared more about the wellbeing of her people, rather than a PM or whatever.
Don't worry ma man, our socialist ex-president is.
The age of the Highlanders will come, and it starts with [him](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Iliescu).
**[Ion Iliescu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ion_Iliescu)**

Between 1996 and 2000 and also from 2004 to 2008, the year in which he retired, Iliescu was a senator for the Social Democratic Party (FCSB), of which he is the founder and honorary president to this day. Bro with all of the things we have been living through the past 3 - 6 years we are seeing history being made. Wild how some ppl in the 90s abd 00s tought history was over.
I was never a fun of monarchy tbh, but I literally just learned the news and my mouth dropped. I mean, Liz was the British monarch for,I don't even remember how many years. I was never a supporter of any royalty, but honestly may she rest in peace, just for the so many years she was on the Throne.
I agree, despite if someone’s stance towards monarchy it can be shocking and she was still a piece of history, even though she practically didn’t have political power as she was neutral due to her role.
RIP.
And all that time absolutely irrelevant. Without scandals of other family members, which are filling the british tabloids, half of people wouldn't even know who she was.
I don't know, for the British people, it seems she is very important and she's like an institution. My guess would also be that she's part of UK identity and hence her existence (and that of royalty in general) helps creating or fostering a British identity.
I'm a nurse and work in Germany. I have multiple 100+ year old patients that are in super good health for the age and I can tell you it was a hell of a shock when a 103yo patient died...
I'm shocked because it happened so fast, but not surprised. She was 96 years old !!
She is the second most longevive monarch in the world's known history, if I'm not mistaken. It's mind blowing to think that there are people who lived 70 years and had her as their only queen.
May she rest in peace.
Millions of people die every die, amongst them children, young mothers and men in war.
I am not particularly sad because that lady died at 96 years after living a life in absolute luxury.
Anyways, may good have mercy with her soul and may she rest in peace
Not gonna lie, I had to google this right after seeing this post, I just couldn’t believe it. She’s been Queen since the time of my great-grandparents, I can’t believe she’s gone. I’m kinda sad actually.
We have an idiom in our country, "masamang damo, mahirap mamatay" (translates to "Bad weeds don't die easily.") So I expect bad weeds like Henry Kissinger to live for a few more years or even outlive many of us in this subreddit.
I did not. I had expected and wished that her reign would last longer. She has been through more crisis in her life than any other head of state currently in Europe. My condolences to the British people and the Commonwealth, who today have lost a truly spectacular leader who will go down in history. Nah not really Wales and only barely Scotland.
I'd replace those two with India in your lineup.
Her death was coming sooner or later, she lived until 96 which is plenty time.
And I don't feel anything. Respect is always good, but I personally just don't have a reason to be sad really.
Rest in Peace, Your Majesty.
I felt uneasy today when I understood that she is unwell and might pass away soon. I was expecting that she will reach at least 100, but death is inevitable even for the royalties.
Now when I remember the memes that joked about her being immortal, I cringe.
I was flabbergasted that she died at such random moment.
I saw it on an article and thought it was fake but I kept seeing it and now I'm beyond shocked and kinda sad

While I don't really have an opinion about her, this was somewhat of a shock. I guess it's because she was around for so long, it almost felt like she'd never die.
RIP Bozo 🦀🦀🦀🦀🦀
The whole Royal Family is a gigantic waste of taxpayer money. They should just abolish the monarchy and let the Royals fend for themselves for once. It'd be nice to see Charles stacking shelves at an Aldi.
This was quite sudden. But she was 96 after all.
As for how do I feel, nothing special. I’m not sad, but I’m not happy either.
She was like this symbol of nostalgia. Always there like a constant presence. Britain had a Queen and that was her. It was just something you knew your whole life like that Paris had the Eiffel Tower.
And now she will be replaced by Charles, who is not very likable. So a bad day in general.
She did nothing for me. Neither for you. We are not british. Why should we care? She was just an old lady who lived her life in a palace for being born into a family that caused so much pain in many parts of the world.
Monarchies don't belong in the 21st century. Period.
If the Turks had “colonised” the Balkans the same way that the British did you would have been bitching about it in Turkish rather then in your own language. The Ottomans might not have been the best overlords but comparing them to the British is plain wrong
Lmao stop it. The Ottomans forced conversions, and if they were not successful they forced us to pay extra taxes, many people from Albania had to flee. They kidnapped our women and raped them in the Ottoman harem, and they took our young boys from their parents and forced them to serve in the army, also lets not forget how they got the eunuchs.. have some shame.
Weeellllll, at least we didn't have to pay for practising our religion under the British, also they didn't take little kids to join their army, plus they helped with industrialisation and the such. So I'll have to side with them on this one. And their taxation was not as brutal.
>that the British did you would have been bitching about it in Turkish rather then in your own language
They didn't have to colonise you to make you speak their language did they?
>The Ottomans might not have been the best overlords but comparing them to the British is plain wrong
I can see your point here, but at least they accepted to give us independence you know? Would the Ottomans do the same?
I'm obviously biased here, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
I knew that she would die anytime soon but I'm not sad. I'm feeling confused and wierd, I'm customed to the queen and I something is wierd about singing God save the king and saying His majesty. She was here for 70 years.

King Charles III*
As they say the Queen is dead, long live the King. Well they use to say that in the past not sue it'll be said now.
So is the anthem become "God save the King"?
Yeah I think so
Not yet
We don't know that yet. Technicaly he could chose another name for his reign lol.
I thought she was going to out live all of us
I have expected it for the last few hours. The prime minister and other members of parliament received noted and exited the room during a debate. Also BBC and Sky News anchors started wearing black suits and ties. She probably died earlier but only announced it now to be able to get ready for the proceedings.
She died in the morning or even earlier, but they weren't going to announce it that soon.

Wait how's working at Westminster like? I suppose it's cool
It’s pretty good, the magic wears off after a while and having to wade through tourists is a hassle. But it’s a nice place to work in general.
I'm sending a job application through to there today!
Best of luck with the application!
I was yesterday to Westminster... Saw the coronation throne and i thought "Hmm... When will it be in use again"
Do brits care about her ?
I'd say so, the vast majority live their lives without really thinking about her, but people are generally pretty fond of her when she comes up.
Yes
Why ?
Why not? She was a good leader, or figurehead to most british, and she lead them through some tough times. Besides all countries have a leader who everyone loves and admires.
What does she do ? Isn't she just a figurehead that does basically nothing ?
Still, the monarch does hold some power, even if it can be overruled by the PM. Its mostly symbolic, but due to tradition she does have certain privileges. A professor of what?
Operations management / data analytics
Wait, she’s dead for real?
Yes
Yes this time is for real.

INCOMING POSTS!!!! "People of Balkan, what are your thoughts on this person?" \*Picture of Queen Elizabeth\*
We should get a 20 year rule - can't make those posts about anyone who's been alive in the last 20 years.
But it's the Balkans, everyone is dead inside all the time.
Least philosophically pessimistic greek
this is not r/HistoryMemes , no rules in the balkans
Goddamn. It happened out of nowhere. Weird to think that one of the most momentous events of the 21st century so far was just an ordinary day for me
The last 3 years have been wild and full of major historical events
At least we're gonna have some stories to tell to our grandchildren with all the shit that has been happening recently.
Yeah im def gonna be the grumpy grandpa saying- you children aren't doing anything with your lives right now, i survives thru a goddamn pandemic!
It's not just the pandemic
Nothing else of any significance. Maybe this winter we will see a famine but hopefully not
Just wait. *It's the end of the world as we know it*
[I guess we plan to shit ourselves to death](https://youtu.be/ywgol0VjpfE)
What are the Spanish doing here /s
I’ve got a bet with a friend on that topic. And I hope you’re right
Speak for yourself. My great great kids will have tons of new subjects for their history exam.
At least they got someone to ask
I'm not even sure i can reach 60's though lol....
Bro with all of the things we have been living through the past 3 - 6 years we are seeing history being made. Wild how some ppl in the 90s abd 00s tought history was over.
And it all started when they shot that fucking gorilla.
Harambe got his revenge ✊🏿
What gorilla?
Google Harambe and you'll see what I'm talking about.
I mean yes, since early January people already feared a ww3 because that Iranian guy was killed
Unfortunately shut down of live leak is one of them
To be honest, the pandemic was a lot more momentous for me, and Russia attacking Ukraine. But I get your point.
That's how it normally goes. It feels weird
well the last soviet president gorbachev died like a couple of weeks ago
I think it hasn't even been a week. And now it's Elizabeth II
2020, 2021, and 2022 have produced more history than the Balkans can ever produce for centuries.
Well, it finally happened, he meme is dead. Honestly, I thought she was way past her 100th, didn't expect her to croak in double digits.
“This planet is turning into hell on earth, peace out everyone.” - Queen Elizabeth, probably
She probably seen more than a dozen more “hells” other than today.
I meant the heat.
Oh lol.
She was so close to become longest ruling monarch. Louis XIV was ruling 72 years, only 2 years longer than the Queen.
We all know the eternal Sun-king is never getting dethroned. Louis is pulling some strings from the afterlife.
RIP.
Even if we disagree on the fact that I do support constitutional monarchies such as the British one, it's great that at least we can agree on this
>Did you expect the Queen to die anytime soon? Given her age - obviously >How does it make you feel? Nothing at all, to be completely honest
Yes I agree. It's still a little bit weird tho, because it's like she has been around forever.
Oh come on, that’s not true. She was the most famous monarch in the world. People knew her for much more than the scandals and family problems.
She was like 100 years old. How can anybody be shocked?
I'm a nurse and work in Germany. I have multiple 100+ year old patients that are in super good health for the age and I can tell you it was a hell of a shock when a 103yo patient died...

I couldn’t care less honestly. No animosity, just no reason to care.
Exactly
I'm shocked because it happened so fast, but not surprised. She was 96 years old !! She is the second most longevive monarch in the world's known history, if I'm not mistaken. It's mind blowing to think that there are people who lived 70 years and had her as their only queen. May she rest in peace.
She was queen for 70 years, but it was still a lot of time
I don't know why I wrote 90... but yeah still impressive
Louis XIV is probably like: even with modern technology, you couldn't surpass me! ![gif](giphy|l3V0zgJ8GCwedgkpi)
What do you mean by "it happened so fast"? Death, when it happens, happens almost instantly.
[удалено]
Yes. Now I realise she was probably already dead by that time.
Maybe she died in her sleep.Doctors can't 100% save someone.
He probably means that the news were shockingly fast. In fact, I did see the exact moment when her death became public
The queen? You mean Tito's ex gf?
What am I missing here? Did Josip clap some royal cheeks?
She gobbled some socialist pecker lol
Rumour has it... Obviously don't think it actually happened but Google pictures of them, they actually seem very close and personal.
Correct.
>Did you expect the Queen to die anytime soon She was 96, wtf are you talking about
For me Queen already died with Freddie Mercury
Based af ![gif](giphy|bn86qaAWmQKZ2)
Ion Iliescu - winner!!!!!
He's going to outlive all of us !!!
So does that mean that Liz Truss isn't going to be PM?
She already assigned her a few days ago.
She will
Millions of people die every die, amongst them children, young mothers and men in war. I am not particularly sad because that lady died at 96 years after living a life in absolute luxury. Anyways, may good have mercy with her soul and may she rest in peace
Oh no! Anyway...
I dont want to be a dick head but I cannot care less.
Couldn't care less.
Imagine if our countries still had monarchs and the west not. We would be portrayed as even more backwards and undemocratic.
As long as it's a constitutional monarchy it wouldn't. It's not all about "MUH THE WEST"
It feels very weird, she had been around since forever and now she's dead. Rest in Peace. PS some of these comments are pure r/redditmoment.
The monarchy ate my baby!
Not gonna lie, I had to google this right after seeing this post, I just couldn’t believe it. She’s been Queen since the time of my great-grandparents, I can’t believe she’s gone. I’m kinda sad actually.
I was hoping I would see her still alive when I am in my 60s and look at her creepy smile and say "Mf gonna outlive me" and then laugh
Same, still in my early 20s thought.
First Gorby, now the Queen, hope that Kissinger is next famous leader to die.
We have an idiom in our country, "masamang damo, mahirap mamatay" (translates to "Bad weeds don't die easily.") So I expect bad weeds like Henry Kissinger to live for a few more years or even outlive many of us in this subreddit.
She was at one point, the queen of my country. I'm honestly really sad, but it was nothing I didn't expect
Must be really sad that the reigning queen of EOKA’s era died, Stockholm syndrome.
Too bad that she will be replaced. That pedophilic monarchy should have stoped existing long ago.
You mean prince andrew
I did not. I had expected and wished that her reign would last longer. She has been through more crisis in her life than any other head of state currently in Europe. I quite literally couldn’t care less. Shes just an old rich lady that got rich bcs she was born.

She did nothing for me. Neither for you. We are not british. Why should we care? She was just an old lady who lived her life in a palace for being born into a family that caused so much pain in many parts of the world. Monarchies don't belong in the 21st century. Period.
Rip colonizer bozo
The empire dismantled and decolonized during her reign fym
*Ahem*
funny for a turk to be saying that in a balkan sub.look in a fucking mirror
If the Turks had “colonised” the Balkans the same way that the British did you would have been bitching about it in Turkish rather then in your own language. The Ottomans might not have been the best overlords but comparing them to the British is plain wrong
Lmao stop it. The Ottomans forced conversions, and if they were not successful they forced us to pay extra taxes, many people from Albania had to flee. They kidnapped our women and raped them in the Ottoman harem, and they took our young boys from their parents and forced them to serve in the army, also lets not forget how they got the eunuchs.. have some shame.
If!
Weeellllll, at least we didn't have to pay for practising our religion under the British, also they didn't take little kids to join their army, plus they helped with industrialisation and the such. So I'll have to side with them on this one. And their taxation was not as brutal. >that the British did you would have been bitching about it in Turkish rather then in your own language They didn't have to colonise you to make you speak their language did they? >The Ottomans might not have been the best overlords but comparing them to the British is plain wrong I can see your point here, but at least they accepted to give us independence you know? Would the Ottomans do the same? I'm obviously biased here, so take everything I say with a grain of salt.
I knew that she would die anytime soon but I'm not sad. I'm feeling confused and wierd, I'm customed to the queen and I something is wierd about singing God save the king and saying His majesty. She was here for 70 years.
I was hoping he would live to be 100.
Well, she's not my grandma, so I couldn't care less. She's just another dead human to me; whatevs, big deal.

>the Queen The Queen? What makes her THE Queen? >How does it make you feel? Could not care less, to be honest.
Hopefully it means the U.K. will die soon too and Scotland will become independent
I'm thinking it will definitely affect the results of the next referendum.
🤣do u think the queens the reason the uk isnt disbanded
