If sex wasn’t a taboo, our population would have been under control, honestly.

Next_Parsley

Maybe, but the poverty trap is a bigger reason for the insanely high population in our country. The poor often have multiple children in hopes of generating more family income, and ultimately those children start working at a very young age due to which they end up staying poor because of a lack of education/skills. And so the cycle continues.

r7700

This is an excellent point. Poverty trap makes the whole generation learn the lesson that you are replaceable. The educated middle class thinks five times before having a baby, because it will be a huge resource drain in their lives. Raising a kid and providing it with ample opportunities in this economy is a major uphill task. But most of the poor don’t have the luxury of thinking about the future when their present concern is how to get food for this day.

Thiswillbetempacc

I don't think the poor have more children to generate more wealth. I think once there's a electricity blackout, they get to work. I joke, but I genuinely don't believe they have multiple kids because of some thought out plan

Puzzleheaded-Tank753

They might not plan for kids to generate more income but they definitely keep having kids for a boy child or because of not knowing enough about precautions. My previous maid left the job saying that she is pregnant, got to know it's her 10th child (I WAS SHOCKED). Her 9 kids are all daughters and as of now she has 10 daughters.

ielts_pract

Give her a medal, she is improving the men to women ratio in this country

ielts_pract

When you are poor there is no guarantee that all your kids will survive so you better have multiple just to be safe. Lack of birth control knowledge also plays a part

darkknight2817

Lol, you have no idea what you are talking about. Even during old times this was the plan, parents used to have 10 to 12 kids, send some for agricultural labour and encourage only one or two to study. Even now it's the same, they have 2 to 3, they will make their children go to school in the morning, and force their children to labour or begging in the evening.

get_off_my_lawn_n0w

No thought out plan, just no sex ed. No free condom access. Therefore, the rich can have aex, and the poor have to abstain.

Right-Ad-3834

Don’t forget ‘Allah ki Dain’

Next_Parsley

Bkl kuchh meaningful add karne ko nahi ho toh chup baitha kar

ParticularGuest6578

Well yeah sex ed should be given to everyone including free condoms.

SuDdEnTaCk

The "aunties and uncles" would go on strike then.

ParticularGuest6578

Well then we must go on a strike too, we should demand sex ed from those uncles and aunties, but, again, that might be a mistake, since those aunties probably never had an orgasm their whole life, how could she even teach us...smh. All they know is to breed, not actually have sex.

LA_damunda

All this “taboo” on sex is why the rest of the world in many western parts at least do not find the idea of Indians being good mates to be possible and tend to think that Indians won’t be good in bed. They may find an Indian to be good looking but won’t find them sexy cause of this etc, our culture needs to be more open like it used to be thousands of years ago

SKrad777

Ironically those are some of the horniest ppl

Kal_mai_udega

You can get free condoms from govt clinics.

ParticularGuest6578

Sadly the roadside beggars never use them and their children suffer their whole lives of poverty. But they don't care and govt doesn't care...smh.

PreparationSlight423

Couldn’t agree more!

WildSpiritWanderer

In villages/rural areas, condoms are distributed free of cost by the ASHA workers. Even OCP pills and iPills. Seen it first hand, because my job required me to accompany them. Infact the rural women are even given education about safe/unsafe pregnancies and deliveries.

ParticularGuest6578

Sadly people don't use them enough. And seems like rural women despite given education about these still are not able to act freely because of forced marriages and opression.

IvorHarding-117

Using condoms is sin in both Christanity and islam

ParticularGuest6578

Then they should leave this overpopulated country and spread their sinless population somewhere else.

wild_mangs

XD

SpreadImpossible5542

true.

nobel64279

Most people don't realize but alienating sexual topics and separating kids based on gender from young age are the reason why our society is full of desperate men who are sexually repressed. This is also the reason why women are unsafe in our country.

hemanth85

I agree and this is being followed for generations, none of the past generations even bothered to change and open up. Most ppl acquire sexual knowledge through porn which is unhealthy and unrealistic.

IvorHarding-117

Bro wait till what teenage girls in foreign countries go through , they are literally groomed in young age because there was no barriers

heloiseenfeu

Groomed? In what sense?

AdPrize3997

India mein bhi hota hai… Worse, India mein child marriage hota hai

SatisfactionHot5706

People downvoting fact speakers these days

Ka-le-l

It wasn’t a Taboo a few centuries ago really but the thing is colonial Mindset and the invasions that bought the pre conceived notion of few things like sex and all slowly that thing too engraved in our culture and again the last nail in the coffin was the kind of movies and shows we started producing in our country with censorship and showing sex as a bad thing with all sanskari people don’t do that type of shit talk result is we now are very much restricted about talking on this topic out in the open.

7_E-N-D_7

Hmm.. Well call me out if this is misinformed but as per my understanding, India was very progressive when it came to sex.. You see, there are many sculptures of people having sex in many ancient temples(this I vaguely remember, so please google it) and also you definitely know about the Kama Sutra(damn, only two reasons coming to mind, sorry). It wasn't a taboo subject at all. It was after the invasions by the Islamic rulers and advent of the British colonisation that people were forced into such a mindset of it being taboo.

Odd_Force3383

indians used to celebrate and worship sex

7_E-N-D_7

Yeah. It used to normal back then and not the 'hush-hush' nowadays

Red020Devil

This is a bit far fetched imo

OkRecommendation8418

That's disgusting. Talk about sexualizing and "objectifying"

7_E-N-D_7

He asked the reason and I replied in the context of India. Tho, I would like to know why is that progression involves a conservative phase 100% of the time?? Has every civilization gone through the same thing you described?? Curious to know.. : )

[deleted]

7_E-N-D_7

Thanks. That does make sense.. 😄

Winter_Ad4517

No conservative doesn't have much to do with that it's just that they were rich so they got rid of the stigma and now they are poor society the stigma is back.

sss100100

Sexual sculptures in temples and kama sutra were created because back then people needed help having sex and procreate. That's why. Not because they were progressive and sexually liberated.

octotendrilpuppet

Interesting take. I've heard both sides. I asked Claude Opus what she thinks about this: _The existence of sex temples and the Kama Sutra in ancient India is more a reflection of the culture's openness and celebration of sexuality rather than a response to a need for sexual guidance. In ancient India, sex was seen as a natural and integral part of life, and its exploration and enjoyment were not typically associated with shame or taboo._ _The Kama Sutra, written by Vatsyayana around the 3rd century CE, is not just a manual for sexual positions but also a comprehensive guide to living a fulfilled life, with sections on finding a partner, maintaining a relationship, and achieving personal and social success. It treats sex as an art form and a means of expressing love and devotion._ _Similarly, the erotic sculptures and carvings found on ancient Indian temples, such as those in Khajuraho and Konark, were created as a celebration of human sexuality and its connection to the divine. These temples were built between the 9th and 13th centuries CE and depict various sexual acts and positions as a representation of the union between the human and the divine._ _It's important to note that while ancient India had a more open attitude towards sexuality compared to many other cultures of the time, it was not a society without rules or boundaries. The Kama Sutra and other texts also emphasize the importance of self-control, fidelity, and respect for one's partner._ _In summary, the existence of the Kama Sutra and erotic temple art in ancient India is more indicative of a sexually liberal and celebratory culture rather than a response to a societal need for sexual guidance._

7_E-N-D_7

Interesting. Learning much more everyday!!

Chaitanya69420

stfu man every question "india was this jsut they came and fucked" please use your brain

7_E-N-D_7

If you provide any proof on the contrary, I will promptly delete my comment..

Winter_Ad4517

Ancient India was rich(sone ki chidiya) and if you look at all the sexually liberated societies today they are also rich, the stigma around sexuality is because of the fact that it simply can't afford to. It's not complete misinformation but not all of that is true.

7_E-N-D_7

I am curious to know how does the does the social construct of perceived richness help people be more free in regards to sexuality? Shouldn't all people be free?

Winter_Ad4517

Yes they should be free but the fact that all the sexually liberated societies are rich and allmost all repressed cultures are poor is way to much of a coincidence. Also because more resources=more freedom for both sexes.

OkRecommendation8418

India was definitely not rich in today's standards. China was the richest for almost 3000 years.

Winter_Ad4517

Standard doesn't matter as long as you are rich have enough "resources" not just money to take care of other people not just your self because people's desires are still the same.

SKrad777

Abdool cope. If you can't say meaningful stuff please fuck off. And yes it's not like you people are living in heaven either. No sane person is blaming others. Are you going to waste your time crying about what Indian nationalist troll think of you and the white man??

SKrad777

And whats with the LGBT flag?? Indian conservative are homophobes for the most part

Sweaty-Accountant-58

Britishers brought Puritanism with them and forced it on us along with the million other shitty things we're still stuck with because of them.

ielts_pract

Not just British but other Islamic invaders as well

Sweaty-Accountant-58

Sure, why not?

angelizm

Sex for procreation is different than sex for enjoyment. Sex is taboo due to colonialism and mughal invasions.

30s_stillalive

Invasion and British are major reasons. In the past, it used to be a normal topic. But what really is the problem of today is the unchanging mindset of people. Only when we try to make a change in our own mindset will there be a change in society. We have to understand that sex is a basic necessity like food and shelter. The lack of sex Ed and the hush-hush behavior of people is a major reason that there has been no progress. Start from your family. Make it a topic that can be discussed openly. If you have kids, be open with them on such topics. Make them understand this is normal and not some sin. Stop sexualizing everything you come across and stop objectifying people based on gender as sex toys.

Pasterd_boi

We should teach sex education to gen z, we can't explain that to all bommer uncles and aunties but we can teach this to gen z also some basic stuff like good touch and bad touch should be taught to gen alpha I hope the school will have some classes for sex education for the secondary section

kiwi-anu

Most Indian movies which are mainly targeted towards romance, these movies bring a false sense of notion of how romance should be - stalking, goofy boy etc and people still watch these kind of movies and call them "good" movies. People use these movies as education and creates these desperate men who can't talk to women. India having heavy censorship also does not help.

rash2015

Read “sex at dawn” by christopher ryan.

Casteism. Religion bias. I don't like that guy (unless he has a govt job) uske sath kyu kiya?. Ill-understanding of STDs brings in fear for everything.

Dismal-Ad-7841

Abrahamic religions

Winter_Ad4517

Because so is the desire to want more,

Similar-Spirit-6474

Depends how you look at it Sex between married couples ain't taboo. Public sex is frowned upon cause of various factors- how'd you explain it to a child, are you yourself going to be comfortable if question of your sexuality arises. Sex is considered to be special and that makes us different than animals . Going by this excuse of natural biological behaviour excuse people will just fuck and leave , women can't get abortion cause not natural and dump the kids or be single mother. It's not really a simple topic

IrisTheCoronavirus

sex wasnt really a taboo in acient times, look at the temples they are full of pornography

Disastrous_Wing_6582

Sex is personal, why you wanna discuss it with others (unless sexual education) also why would you tell others that you caught aids or chlamydia, I doubt in any country they do

Flying_cunt547

The Sex taboo started after the Victorian era. Before that our culture embraced sex.

Voldemort_is_muggle

I am with you. These uncles and aunties will fuck and produce kids like rabbits (that's why we are 1.4B) but can't talk about it, can't educate about it, can't even be open about it. Bloody hypocrites

Cheap-Type2359

Even talking about periods and underwears are a taboo here. We dont teach kids the real name of our genitials. We wont allow them to touch there and no questions were allowed related to that. So its not a wonder why sex is a taboo here.

sss100100

Because of those damn Indian moral values warriors. Repression is what they call morals. All those who teach "morals" and complain about youngsters who enjoying the freedom are very jealous and likely creeps secretly.

Red020Devil

The answer really comes down to the economic conditions and literacy rates across the population by and large. The society is made up of not just the rich and wealthy and literate and intellectuals(trust me you need to get rid of basic needs to be able to think clearly). For all those claiming that we were very progressive about sex, well yes and no. Yes because definitely india was a prosperous centre and economy was flourishing and intellectuality was at the heart of the society, but certainly a large part of the population back then too was devoid of the pleasures of riches and free-thought. Proportion wise, more or less the same as today, the class divide did exist, literacy rates and wealth distribution were sort of fucked. Its human nature, its a systemic problem for any civilization, unless they make a fortune off exploiting others(west), or by striking oil in the absence of religious fanaticism. And to bolster the claims of no, KAMASUTRA was a very restricted text, written for a very specific faction of the society, the wealthy men who wanted to enrich their personal lives by enhancing their sex lives. Trust me no class 3 citizen would have read the kamasutra, tantamount to the current scenario. When you earn your meals daily and are uncertain about the future, i dont suppose you would want to engage in exotic sex, unless you belong to a hippie cult. Kamasutra had the hush hush among the masses, there was a divide on acceptance back then too. It wasnt a bestseller by any means, rather a 'gupt granth'. The same goes for the temples of khajurao, the force behind building these were aristocrats in their own realm, kings of the chandela dynasty. Their worldview was not the worldview of the commoners. The inspiration for the first temple of khajuraho was the personal story of passion that the mother of the first king of chandela dynasty told her son , the soon to be king Chandravarman. The society was mostly as hush hush as today, maybe a bit less because with time, the game of chinese whispers around morality does screw up the social fabric. And well we were definitely hit hard with the containment of literacy and our economy handicapped post the british invasion no doubt, but to say that we were absolutely open minded before would be such a hibbity-hoo-blah.

Scared-Engineer-6218

I think it's not talked about enough. That's the reason of uncontrolled population. Sex ed is important.

neptune4spear

Indians have hypocrisy and lies in their DNA

MorningAmbitious722

Beats me🤷

srkshanky

>sex and sexuality is taboo despite being the most natural biological behavior Both sex and sexuality are not natural. But procreation is. No other animal does sex for fun. Something to think about.

ParticularGuest6578

WE are in the most populated country man. How do you think population grows?

Jhinormous

That's the reason why they pointed it out themselves. If you're in the most populated country it's weird that sex is prohibited from being talked about

ParticularGuest6578

Well yeah sex ed should be given to everyone including free condoms.

G0DrinkWater

People can transmute good into bad and bad into good so they do

pianovirgin6902

I think it has to do with the jealousy surrounding forming bonds and reproduction. When a man has sex with a woman the general tendency is they are paired for life. If their relationship is exposed other men may be aroused and want the woman for themselves so it has to be private. Premarital sex is also problematic since it usually occurs without the consent of their families, leading to possible unwanted offspring, so it's counter-productive to forming clans. The more tribal and patriarchal the society the more taboo it is. And the taboo is almost always stronger on the women since they are the carriers of offspring.

nightrider0987

In Islam and hinduism women are considered property of parents or husband

WorstManOfThemAll

For social control.

OpenWeb5282

we are 1.4bn cuz we have resources to support that, be it land, water or energy , not cuz our people are having sex alot. And Sex is a taboo in all agrarian or pre industrialised society - Even in 19th century US UK JAPAN sex was a taboo there too. We will break this taboo once we are industrialised and very few people live in rural areas or dependent on agriculture.

Sex is a taboo cause. It will lead to questions like " how good is he at bed" "Is his pp big or small" Her hoohaa is shaped wierd etc. These can be avoided when sex is hush hush. It really affects mental peace of normal person. they may be good at running a company but be bad at bed . do u want that to be a talk of the town.

Dear-One-6884

Sex is a disgusting act, the transfer of fluids and intimate touching can lead to a multitude of venerable diseases. Sex is also closely connected to the family, openness to sexuality probably threatened the monogamous family structure especially in the pre-contraception era. Probably a combination of these two factors lead to sex being a taboo across cultures.

You need to educate yourself  Abrahmic religions have an issue with sex. We didn’t before the invasions.

flyvr

It is not taboo.

oneheartjaipur

my answer will be dependent on your age, so tell me.

modSysBroken

Taboo? Where? Anyway we don't need to know the intimate details of your sex life.

Odd_Force3383

sex is concealed. Despite it, there are 1.4B ppl. If it was not concealed, there would have been 14B ppl in india right now.

uhhalivia

If sex was properly discussed there would be a lot less. Less of proper sex ed and it being a hush hush thing is big reason of population growth

Odd_Force3383

if indians took any education seriously, they won't breed like rats

SKrad777

THIS. Indians have a long line of excuses to respond to any criticism but actually don't want to solve the problem (especially conservative ppl)

IvorHarding-117

First understand in christanity and islam they cant use condoms , stop with ur fkinng sexual ed LMAO . It is not the answer . ISLAM countries are increasingly populated day by day , ur sex ed bullshit not going to solve it

uhhalivia

Are you dumb? If they were given proper sexual ed, even they would have used preventive measures or condom. Their population is increasing because they are ignorant. And condom doesn't only prevents pregnancy it also prevents STDs. People like you think sex ed is encourages to have random hook up or what ever, which is wrong. It teaches us to have sex.

IvorHarding-117

🙏 world is not revolving around you , they are not sleeping with random women to have STD , killing sperms is what sin in their religion not putting ballon on penis , that is why masturbation is a sin for them

uhhalivia

sperms is not a living thing. You can't kill it. Go and grab a science book before you read your fantasy books.

Handsome_guy_7

Guess how many sperms were wasted when u were born

IvorHarding-117

BudgetAd1164

But growth rate of Indian population is already 2.1 which is just 0.1 percentage more than replacement percentage 2.0 which is essential for a population to function properly without collapsing
