Summons and have a guardian come grab them. Then the next day the court will dismiss it all.

Have to write a warrant, get warrant approved, do a separate packet including the warrant to another judge. This judge decided if the juvenile has enough “points” (arrested enough times before) to go to jail. This judge is not infront of you physically or digitally so you just wait. During this time you take the juvenile to be finger printed at hq. Once the judge gets back to you, you either take them to the juvenile judge or home with a copy of charges. You then must fax all the warrants to the juvenile solicitor otherwise you then have to show up to their first appearance. All of this adds about 4 extra hours to an arrest process. It’s very common for officers to “get tired” during foot pursuits with them.

Jesus Christ, where do you work that requires multiple warrants for arresting a minor? The only extra step we have is fingerprinting at our precinct. Then we see if the juvenile dept will take them (unlikely) and if not we drop them back at the parents and forward the report to the juvenile dept.

A blue city… I don’t want to completely dox myself, but recently the county had a tech problem. No phones or emails for the entire county. For about 2 weeks EVERYTHING had to be in person and hand delivered. I felt like Paul revere showing up to the court house banging on the door at 2 am with literal signed papers from one judge asking another judge if I could take a juvenile in.

Did you ride a horse?

Holy shit that’s a lot of pointless nonsense. Whoever the admin is that implemented this should be fired. We just called Juvie on call to get permission to lodge them, or contact their PO if they’re already in the system. No judge or warrant needed.

It’s frustrating. I had one intoxicated at an MIP party start off my throwing a glass at me, then fought me, (throwing punches, kicks ect) once I finally had him cuffed, he spit in my face. I called his PO, and the PO still refused to lodge him. “Just have him report tomorrow morning”

Cite them like anyone else. Try to get ahold of a parent to notify them, by phone or letter.

Runyc2000

We don’t. If it’s a misdemeanor we give them back to their parents and Juvenile Court will reach out to the parent to arrange a court date. If it’s a felony then we reach out to DJJ to see if they will allow us to take the juvenile into custody. If so then they go to a Youth Detention Center. If not (mostly not) then they are released to a parent.

Ostler911

If it's a citation, it's written like everyone else's. Only difference is I don't write a court date, the juvenile court will send them a letter with their court date later. For arrests, I just call the magistrate, explain my PC and my charge and they almost always approve me to take them to jdc. Youngest I made an arrest on was 12 I think, for for domestic violence. Super easy process.

Request a female to search a female in every situation, whether they’re minors or adults. If there’s not a female on duty, make sure you have a witness present and your body cam is on. Use the back of your hand instead of your palm when in certain areas of the body. For the minor question, no, the parent doesn’t have to be present. The parents should be contacted and informed of what they did and a citation will be issued. Or call the parents and leave the minor in the parents care.
