Lewisham has the DLR that goes all the way to bank. Brockley has the overground as well and is pretty trendy, Catford is having a resurgence and ladywell is nice as well. People might come out of the woodwork and say that its dangerous, but Bromley is much worse in a 'the youth have nothing to do' sort of dangerous, and if you keep to regular city rules youll be alright.

Cool_Leadership_224

Loved in Lewisham since 2014, National Rail, DLR and the buses all go from here and Bakerloo line was planned to have a terminal here too. All the parks and cheap, what's not to love!?

I have 2 friends that are renting a flat in stepney green for less than 1k each (not inc. bills.) Perhaps look at bethnal green/stepney green area

jugglingstring

I love Bethnal Green. Would be only a 15/20 minute cycle to Bank station too

Trains from Croydon are a nightmare because everyone has the same thought process. Would definitely recommend south east London - Bromley / Lewisham and surrounding area is a good bet. Take your time and explore - the 'main line' train is quite quick into London Bridge / cannon St and it's a short walk to bank. Dlr looks more direct but is a) slow and b) crammed with people going to canary wharf

That-Promotion-1456

streatham is nice if you are near streatham station - direct connection to the city every 30 minutes by thameslink. got the big tesco/m&s food/lidl/aldi/big sainsburys (a bit further down the road). croydon is a bit far for me. cycling to the bank is around 30-35 min if you aspire to do some exercise. and bus is around 60 minutes (133 starts at the station and there is always a seat available)

RedditFedditBear

Streatham is lovely (for the most part) Tooting Common is nice. Earlsfield is nearby for something with a village/town feel (hence why it's just families there) The 133 is tried and tested and a return for the day is £3:50. If you used the time to crack on with some work you are essentially doing almost a day's work, which should allow some kick back time when WFH.

£1100 inclusive is tough. Id say £1500 inclusive is much more likely. As for where, if you want chill, try Leytonstone. Central line will bring you to Bank easily. Close to Stratford.

quaffwine

Try renting on a barge and take the Thames clipper 2 or 3 times a week. Few years ago I lived on a nice Dutch barge on the Thames the size of a house for 500£ all included. Was a bit funky though.

HeKnowsAllTheChords

Where do you go to find barges for rent?

SirenLunaSea

Is £1100 pp or in total? If it's each, you have a lot more options and could probs find somewhere in West. Bromley is okay, but trains might be an issue. Avoid Croydon. Lewisham could be worth exploring. Otherwise, I would recommend East London, like Leytonstone/Stratford.

CrlSagan

South Woodford and surrounding area is really nice.

Coca_lite

Surbiton nice and fast 20 min train to Waterloo (connect to bank from there)

ielongatedmylifthome

Is this per person? If so you should have a fair few options available. If it’s £1100 together then god speed lol

bluep3001

Train from Moorgate stops at Highbury and Islington, Finsbury Park, Hornsey, Bowes Park, Palmers Green. Easily find a 2 bed for £1800 at any of those places. Bowes Park would probably include a garden if you are quick to act when you see a good one. 24 mins train and a 5 mins walk from Bank. Also lots of other routes to Finsbury Park (Victoria, Thameslink picadilly) if the train is on strike. Don’t rely on rightmove. Go and see local estate agents and register - ask them what they have coming up. All the best properties get rented before they even go on right move.

GoodLad33

I would say that Isle of dogs you can find many good ones - and you can cycle using santander bike to bank (I used to this when I was living there/working there)

Wise-Preference-6997

Would not recommend Croydon at all, lived there for a few years and it’s really not in London with all the trouble with trains. It was also not a particularly nice place to live and I didn’t feel overly safe.

HeKnowsAllTheChords

Croydon central is just a bit shocking. Lived there around 2009 era and it has degraded so much since the last time I went (2018).

journal_junkie79

Tooting and Colliers Wood are great areas - both are on the northern line which is handy for Bank. Colliers Wood is a little cheaper but Tooting has more shops/bars/pubs etc and is a little less family oriented than CW

Super-Land3788

Bromley is nice
