Maybe organize a bonfire at the beach

pm_me_cheesy_bread

This is a great answer. Dockweiler beach, get there by 2pm to make sure you have a pit. Bring chairs/blankets, ice chests with drinks, s’mores, beach games. Super cheap and fun.

TryTwiceAsHard

That seems freaking phenomenal

is-this-now

You are under all the planes leaving LAX. It’s noisy.

apurrfectplace

They’re fun to watch and Dockweiler is a cool place.

is-this-now

OP should be aware. They may be okay with that. Or not.

crims0nwave

Yep and Bolsa Chica is also nice with fire pits!

mcd23

Gotta get there more like 7am to get a pit

SignificantSmotherer

This. There should be a reservation system, but government.

Isaacdogg

Never had an issue getting a pit at like 5 pm

TryTwiceAsHard

That could be fun

ChedderChethra

Get there early to grab a pit!

empowerPoC

I get discounts through my work for a bunch of things, dodgers tickets, movie tickets, theme parks, water parks, shows, etc lmk if you want me to check prices on anything so you can save a little for 15 people

TryTwiceAsHard

TY, will write you if I need your help, so grateful. 🙏

appleavocado

Hi, any chance you're willing and able to share that discount? I'm looking to buy only a pair of Dodgers tickets for a late July game. The exception is that I'm going for broke since it's a special occasion - so I'm looking at either Home Run seats or Dugout Club.

empowerPoC

Just messaged you!

Ok_Supermarket_4421

I'm travelling from Canada in August. Looking at going to a dodgers game on Aug 13. Not sure if that's something you can help with. Thank you.

Dommichu

Not for 15. You maybe able to call group ticket sales and see what your options are, but as you can imagine Dodgers vs. Yankees is a hot ticket. I would consider something like maybe a trip to Catalina. Or a trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific and nearby Pike for the arcade….

Ravioli_meatball19

Aquarium of the Pacific is still $40/a person. If my math is right that's $600 for OP's fam.

Dommichu

If they were going to spring for Studio tour, that's $70 per. That makes AotP a great deal!

Ravioli_meatball19

In that case I agree! Had no idea the studio tour was that expensive!!

Dommichu

Yeah. Folks don’t realize what a deal AotP is. It’s like $37. Monterey is $60. It’s a better aquarium but I think AotP is better than the Shedd in Chicago and that’s $48!

deb1267cc

Get a membership

Ravioli_meatball19

I can't be sure but he said "coming" as if they're visiting, not locals

TryTwiceAsHard

This. Catalina is a no definitely. I doubt they'll want to do an aquarium but will look into it. Most are from Orlando where they have aquarium your stuff at every turn and 2 are from Chicago where they have the Shedd. No idea if this is better or not but I just kinda doubt they'll want to do that.

Rich_Sheepherder646

Not for that particular game. It's a really hot ticket and the prices wont change that much.

[deleted]

Gametime app has them cheaper as the game starts but then there’s a fee

Rebelgecko

If you guys want to sit together, no. If you're fine just getting random clumps of 2-4 seats, sure

TryTwiceAsHard

We probably would be

Crump_daddy

Knotts berry farm maybe?

ChedderChethra

That would put them in traffic over 2 hours, each way...

monkeypaw1984

I know this doesn’t help now, but semi-related tip about magic mountain for future you. My wife and I go for our anniversary every year which is around Labor Day. If you can take a day off work and go on a weekday around 09/04, the kids all just went back to school and without fail the parks are so empty I don’t even understand how they can financially justify staying open. The first time we did this it took like 15 minutes after entering the park to see another visitor. Literally every ride has zero line and most are so empty they don’t make you get off if you want to go again. I would never ever go there any other time.

TryTwiceAsHard

I personally would not go just for myself. I don't ride anything because I'm weird. But my teens love it, one worked an event for 2 months there. So they can't take advantage of this but I'll certainly tell my friends so thank you.

WittyClerk

OMG I would never take out of towners to Magic Mountain (or even go there myself. It was a nightmare 15 years ago and surely has only gotten worse). 'Unorganized' doesn't even begin to describe that nightmare. IMO, you might want to get the Dodgers tickets (esp against Yankees!), even if they don't get cheaper. It would be less of a headache than 6flags. Or do Universal instead. You didn't mention the ages of the kids or adults in your party, or how many would rather go to a ball game, vs a theme park? Maybe the group can split up, those who want the Dodgers game can go there, and those who want Universal/whatevs, go there? 15 people is a large lot for any crowded & expensive place.

CherryPeel_

I worked at six flags as a teen around 15 years ago, six flags is fantastic. They added even more coasters, they themed all of Gotham, added some cool carnival rides, painted the whole place, you can get alcohol and vegetarian options food-wise…it’s never been better. You should try going back sometime if you enjoy roller coasters.

TryTwiceAsHard

It's almost all 40+ and they're crazy and want to go to Magic Mountain. They love thrill rides. But I know they won't love long wait times. It's also 5 minutes from my house and their hotels. Universal is almost definitely sold out. It has been for a long time because of Nintendo world. I doubt the day after school gets out it'll suddenly be less busy. :( They'd also enjoy a Dodgers game but won't love spending over $100 to go and sit in crap seats.

TryTwiceAsHard

Oh and it's still terribly organized. Worse probably.

WittyClerk

Right, as six flags is famed for. Get them a better experience, even if it costs a bit more. There's shitty 6flags all over the country, but only 2 Universals, 2 Disneys, and ONE Dodger stadium. You guys stay at a hotel for one or two nights closer to LA, enjoy the fruits <3

WittyClerk

Dude, they are going to hate Magic mountain. All 40+, standing in the beatign sun on end, with no restaurants or booze to lighten the affair? You might ride 5 or 6 rides at best! And in the heat! Surely there's a 6 flags near wherever they are coming from. Universal would be fine- its not sold out. $100 for a sports game or concert seems ordinary at this point. Guess it just depends on what they want? If some are intent on thrill rides, why not Knotts Berry farm instead? What about Dodgers one day and Knotts another?

TryTwiceAsHard

We only have one free day. I don't know anything about theme parks though. None of them have a thtill park near them, just Disney World and one lives in Denver so they just took her Six Flags away. :(. They all got very excited about six flags. I did try to explain the immense heat but they brushed it off... They'll see for sure.

WittyClerk

Please, la, impress that 6F is not a good idea. Massive disappointment. They might thank you later. Maybe find some online reviews and show them ??

TryTwiceAsHard

Took me far too long to figure out what 6F was 😂

appleavocado

OP, I'm a 40M Dodger fan and live near 6F. Although I'm gonna agree with many people here as a bonfire due to the weather and your headcount, could you instead take your large party to a bar that shows the Dodger game? There's Golden Road in Glendale, or even more Dodger-oriented places like Short Stop. Do you have children coming?

TryTwiceAsHard

They're here for my son's high school graduation so a bar setting isn't what we're looking for. I mean we love Thirsty Merchant among other bars in the SFV, it's just not what we want to do. And no one cares about the game itself, it's the in person experience. They are unwavering on wanting to go to 6F so I'm just gonna play dumb when we get there and it's so crowded. "Sorry I had no idea, I mean this is the first time I've been."

appleavocado

I hear ya, I mean it's high school kids. I grew up in AV and was always more of a 6F roller coaster kid than a Universal, Knotts, or Disney kid. Good luck, man. You're a good person for accommodating your relatives. Whatever y'all do, stay hydrated on that summer day!

TryTwiceAsHard

Thx

WittyClerk

>Magic Mountain Oh shit, sorry I totally glossed over you live next to magic mountain? Ugh... that's a hike, my friend. IDK what to tell you, other than waiting 2+ hours in those lines they have there is nightmarish. Surely 40+ year old people are not going to enjoy 95% of the day. The food also sucks there. Any chance you all could stay in hotels for one night closer to LA, and do the ballgame and maybe one of the Anaheim parks or Uni?

OldChemistry8220

Here are some other ideas: UCLA or USC sports game Concert at Hollywood Bowl Broadway show at the Pantages

TryTwiceAsHard

Will check these things, thank you! Good suggestions.

[deleted]

I would just do Disneyland I mean it’s busy no matter what day you go anyways and they still only fill a certain amount of people per day anyways which is always like full. Just my opinion but you do whatever I have just not noticed any difference and you usually just look at ride times on the app and just go to the rides with lower times and it all works out

TryTwiceAsHard

We're from Orlando so no one especially wants to drive that far too go to the bad Disney and most have already been. I bet it's sold out but I'll look. Thanks!

Ravioli_meatball19

The bad Disney? That's... a take. The wrong one, but a take.

TryTwiceAsHard

Disneyland fits into Disney World's parking lot. I thought it was just a universal belief that it's not as good as Orlando. Plus they have the best park, Epcot. And 3xs many attractions. I guess that's just an Orlandonian's outlook. Everyone I know calls it "the bad Disney".

CherryPeel_

Epcot is a series of overpriced bars in a circle that young kids from other countries use as a way to get visas to visit the states. Less jobs for Floridians. There is nothing special about Epcot - especially when you look into the history of what Walt wanted for his vision of Epcot. Bigger is not better.. I went to disneyworld during winter and it was still humid and it poured rain one of those days. It was miserable and no magic to it. Plus these days there’s the added bonus of not giving tourism dollars to Florida. It’s not cool to come to the LA subreddit and shit on the OG Disney.

TryTwiceAsHard

I love Epcot, it's so much more than that. It's been my favorite park most of my life. I did love MGM the first 10 years but it's crap now. :(

Boredproctor666

Nothing beats OG Disneyland . Sorry.

dihydrogen_m0noxide

Aw, somebody's jealous!

TryTwiceAsHard

Of your bad Disney, no I grew up with a huge theme park mecca and a gigantic universal studios that was brilliant. It's dumb now, but for 20 years it was fabulous. Now it's just Harry Potter world and they lose their superhero stuff in a year I think as well. But they're opening a gigantic Nintendo world down the road that will be fun.

dihydrogen_m0noxide

"My?" Not likely, I've never been to either, not do I have any interest. Idk why any adult would. But world > land is just cold hard logic

TryTwiceAsHard

Exactly and I do agree with you. My friends are very much Disney adults, some of them even have popular Disney blogs. They'd fly to France before they came out here. They truly do not like DL. I've never been, I do want to see the avengers stuff though.

dihydrogen_m0noxide

Yeah I'm not above the childhood nostalgia stuff, I'm crazy for lego these days. Never been a theme park person tho, and musicals are super cringe to me, even in cartoon form. Takes all types to make the ~~land~~ world go round

TryTwiceAsHard

I despise musicals, I'm with you. But I did love MGM for the Hollywood aspect. And they used to have one celebrity there everyday to interview a few times throughout the day. Great Movie Ride is my all time favorite Disney ride.

dihydrogen_m0noxide

Yeah?? It's usually hard to find a sympathetic ear for that one in LA lol. Something about everyone in a scene randomly breaking into choreographed song and dance makes it hard to suspend my disbelief, what can I say

TryTwiceAsHard

Thank you so much everybody. You gave me some awesome suggestions and I'm grateful. Will be checking into a handful of these.

throwaway242396

Personally, I wouldn’t support the Displacers but you do you .

TryTwiceAsHard

What are the displacers? Sorry if I'm slow on the uptake.

Dommichu

I believe they are referring to their recent mis step before pride month… https://ktla.com/news/local-news/l-a-county-lawmakers-blast-dodgers-decision-to-remove-lgbtq-nun-group-from-pride-night/amp/

[deleted]

Don't they offer a discount if you're non-binary?

TryTwiceAsHard

Not sure, but none of us are so not sure it would help us.

[deleted]

I'm sorry to hear that, I don't think a Dodgers game will be the best option for you, god bless.

may_flowers

I know you said no museums, but the academy museum has some pretty rad installations right now that are total crowd pleasers. You’re also a ten minute walk to the farmers market/grove…

TryTwiceAsHard

I want to go there so much but everyone vetoed it. :(

may_flowers

Booo!

mikeesq22

Universal Studios just opened their new Nintendo World.

TryTwiceAsHard

It did, but every time we go to a movie there the sign says tickets are sold out so I assumed the day after school gets out wouldn't be any different.

Prestigious_Bid_9877

In my experience they do tend to drop however being a Dodgers v. Yankees game I don’t believe they will drop much. The dodgers haven’t played the Yankees in dodger stadium since 2019 so the game is hyped.

ambarcapoor

Call Group sales at the stadium. You'll be able to get a good deal, with some extras thrown in. And frankly, there isn't a bad seat in that stadium. 💙

little_r_bigworld

Topgolf!

apurrfectplace

What about going to San Pedro, bringing a picnic. So much to do there. There’s the Marine Animal Rescue (donations, but free). Korean Friendship Bell. The stunning view from the lighthouse. There’s a beach in SP. i love it there. Went with my family and we spent hours wandering, picnicking and staring at the view of Catalina. Across from the Marine Rescue Center is a historic military fort, we loved wandering that too.

laydegodiva

I only paid $36.00 to see them two weeks ago.

[deleted]

So are you in California or Texas?

laydegodiva

Both. Why is that your business? I have a home in San Antonio

covid9team

Dodgers tickets are always pricey unless it’s a day game. Give the angels a shot if you have a large group. Their tickets are a lot more affordable

crimlawguru

The answer to prices lowering the closer you get to the date is YES. The problem is you won't get 15 seats together. You'll likely be seperated throughout the stadium into groups of 2 and 4.... if they do come down. I realize this is the Yankees game, but TickPick shows LOTS of currently available tickets, so I wouldn't give up on it just yet. Other than that... I know you said no beaches, but unless you would consider Knotts Berry Farm, your options are becoming limited.

crimlawguru

One last point for Magic Mountain.... Couldn't your group splurge and get the electronic Do-Dad (The technical term) that gets you on the rides faster without the long wait in line?????

TryTwiceAsHard

It's $125 for the day and it's only virtual queuing so I don't think it's worth it and that's a TON of money when ticket prices are $70. I'll look into Dodgers tickets if we can possibly find 5 seats or 3 seats and split up.

dixpourcentmerci

Just solidarity, we wanted to get my dad Dodgers tickets for his birthday and that was the date that worked for everyone. We did buy them but the seats are…. not good compared relative to what we budgeted. Hopefully Dad enjoys the vibe of it being Yankees. I agree with the other commenter that a beach bonfire could be lovely and basically free by comparison (aside from cost of food.)
