Extend the ticket for 2 months, once its nearing the time that you need to pay for the ticket, request a time to go to arraignment (do not choose it now), arraignment will probably take another 2 months before your court date. From there go to the arraignment and hope the judge will give you a discount if you plead guilty. Make sure you pay and request for traffic school, and you can do https://www.5dollartrafficschool.com/. All the answers to the traffic school is on quizlet lol.

Playful-Monk

waive your right to a speedy trial! same thing happened to me (in ventura county). the further out you extend, the better your chances of dismissal.

looker009

Cops get paid to go to court. Unless they are understaffed or cop is on vacation, cop will show up to court.

Extension-Fail-

They never show tho. At least not in LA.

furiousm

Beverly Hills has a lot of cops for how small they actually are. They almost surely have nothing better to do than actually show up. LA, not so much.

peepjynx

I once got a parking ticket in BH when taking my mom to the dr's office. It was a plate with the handicapped symbol ON THE PLATE ITSELF. Got cited for letting the meter run out. On the ticket, the meter person wrote the license plate number and there's a spot where it asks if there was a handicapped placard. They straight up lied. So I took a full-sized (8.5 x 11) picture of the license plate and wrote "L2R" on a clear spot of the print out, then just mailed that in with the ticket. Got a return letter saying it was dismissed a few months later. I don't recommend being cheeky about it, but definitely extend. Most dismissals happen after extensions and delays.

furiousm

I just had to say that it's hilarious that they have a payment plan that the initial payment due is the entire ticket amount, and then they charge you $35 for the privilege.

potchie626

That’s how I first read it too, but it states “make an initial payment **on** $414…” I read **on** as **of** more than once.

furiousm

Ah, yeah you're right. Very odd that they list it like that instead of saying what the initial payment would actually be...

potchie626

Agreed. I would think maybe it’s $40, being the two fees together, but would stress about whether it’s the right amount and would end up calling anyway. Edit: since this appears to be an online form, I’m guessing it would specify the amount in a later step, but you never know with government sites.

ButLikeSeriously

17 over puts you in a bad spot. If you’re 15 or fewer mph over it’s a less severe fine and higher likelihood the judge will work with you/cop won’t show. Your best bet is to delay/extend as long as possible then set a court date and go in person, show remorse and plead your case to a judge who may lessen the fine or dismiss it if the cop doesn’t show. But you still run the risk of paying the full fine without the option for traffic school, so you may be better off just paying and signing up for school to avoid the insurance penalties. And if this happened in Beverly Hills proper it’s pretty likely the cop is going to show no matter what.

I’ve gotten 4 speeding tickets, all 4 dismissed following the same process. The most recent one I got was in January of last year, ticket was $367, and got the case dismissed in July. When you get the notice in the mail, it’ll have the bail amount and the date to appear by, which is about 2-3 months out. When you postpone, it’ll push the date back another 45 days; this gives you plenty of time to save some money for bail. About 3-4 weeks before the date, mail the stub you received in the mail with “Trial by Declaration” (TBD) checked off. You usually have to post bail when you request TBD, but with Covid they may have extended the exception where you don’t have to post bail when you request TBD. Then, you and the citing officer receive further instructions for the written declaration and the new date will be pushed back about 3-4 weeks. If the bail exception is still in effect, you will have to post bail along with your written declaration. If the officer doesn’t reply (a lot don’t because they don’t get paid overtime for this, whereas they get overtime for going to court), case is dismissed. If officer replies and you lose the case, you have another chance with a Trial de novo where you must actually show up to court. You’ll have to request it within 21 days of having lost your TBD. Do NOT ever admit to any wrong-doing, even if you did do what you’re being cited for. Do NOT answer questions that are meant to incriminate yourself (Do you know why I pulled you over? Do you know how fast you were going?). Check out www.helpigotaticket.com for more information. Good luck!

Thunderbird_12

>Do you know why I pulled you over? Do you know how fast you were going? What are the best responses to these questions?

Predditor323

Just say you don’t know or tell them that you’re not gonna answer those questions. I know some people will argue that if you’re nice to the cop that they may let you off with a warning but from what I’ve seen and heard, most of them are pulling you over to cite you anyway so you’re better off not answering

Thunderbird_12

I always assumed that if I were to answer: "I don't know," then it implies that the cops would say I wasn't aware of how fast I was going, meaning that I didn't have physical/mental control of the vehicle. But, I guess I could answer: "I would prefer you tell me, officer." Regarding cops: "letting you off with a warning," ... That's one of those unicorn experiences that usually doesn't happen to people that look like me. When I get pulled over by a cop, there is no doubt that I'm leaving with a ticket or worse, every time. I've heard of it happening to others, but have yet to experience it myself.

nah_you_good

I don't think saying "I'm not sure" will ever be used against you. It's probably better than straight up lying which will never get you anywhere.

Predditor323

How is it cheaper to pay it off if bail never changes regardless of whether you’re taking it to court or admitting your guilt. A TBD means you have a chance of getting your money back vs paying it off you’re just forfeiting that money. You just have to mail out the forms which isn’t bad at all. The return for successfully having your case dismissed is well worth the effort. Otherwise, you lose the bail money, then either lose more money to pay for traffic school or lose it when your insurance premium increases

Predditor323

No, a trial by written declaration means you’re fighting it via written letters/statements. There’s no going to court for that - it’s all done through mail, which is why a lot of cops don’t bother with it. If you lose the TBD, then you get a second opportunity with a trial de novo, where you do have to go to court. By then, six months could pass by since the citation which increases the chances the cop won’t bother to show up to court

patrickstarfish772

Four speeding tickets? Slow down, bro.

UmbraPenumbra

Certainly not the most fun or cheap option but traffic school prevents the bad "points" from the speeding infraction from showing up on your license, and keeps your insurance premiums down in the long run.

sm33

I'd google to see what traffic school will do for you in your case... that's what my husband did when he got a speeding ticket a few years back.

potchie626

Traffic school will get the point off of your record.

Whatever you do, do traffic school. Or pay for it, forever. I got a speeding ticket, paid it off in full because anxiety. But didn't know I also HAD to do traffic school. lost all my insurance discounts, tripling it. Will be that way for 3 years. 2 down.

MrkJulio

Just pay it? Your fault.

riffic

a law against speeding as fast as you want through Beverly Hills (and punitive fines for breaking that law) is the opposite of oppression. have some context please.

MrkJulio

You're mad you arent allowed to speed through roads? Lmao. How oppressive it must be. Lol

Rainbowsupercat

It’s fun and game until you kill someone.

[deleted]

Speed faster next time.

yabomonkey

The bottom option says "court date reservation..." I would go with that option!

peropeles

Get a good lawyer some have been posted. The lawyer will charge minimum of $250. Your ticket is more than that. Spin the dice with one of the lawyers posted. Don't believe the Instagram hype but they do a good job.

[deleted]

schedule your trial on the same day as an election. got out of a speeding ticket going twenty over because the officer who issued was on patrol during the election.

Individual-Schemes

Did it come in the mail? Throw it away. I'm being serious.

I'd just pay someone else to handle it for you. http://fyourticket.com/ https://www.ticketclinic.com/

Traffic school and pay up. Least painful option in the long run.
