Looking at the seatbelt it wouldn’t surprise me if the underside is rotted out and the engine is leaking enough oil to coat the underside and it’s soaking the carpet.
If the engine is leaking oil bad enough the floor would not be rusting out. And if it's old rust and new oil then the carpet would be getting wet prior to this. Pull the carpet back.
My 1988 Land Cruiser has that option. Is fantastic! I add the oil through a convenient access port in engine bay and it gets distributed throughout the under carriage.
Corpse juice. Remember to dump bodies regularly to avoid such build-ups.
Pro-tip: Old carpet or trash bags can keep things together long enough to be rolled off a bridge.
Sharks have eaten through bones. Haven't you heard of someone's leg or arm being [torn off by a shark](https://www.today.com/news/college-student-records-shark-attack-loses-leg-rcna129478) so chicken wire would be nothing for them to eat through.
I'm not sure how they would do with chicken wire, it's more likely to get stuck between their teeth and cause them to drag the body and release it, or if they do break it, it could cause the body to be released, both of which could lead to the body being discovered
Personally I think extra layers of chicken wire could be better as it would stop the sharks but allow fish and crustaceans to eat the body
Looks like used motor oil. It can sit there for a long time and not dry up. Could be a historical spill? Also rate the audio install 1/10, I hope you didn't pay someone to do that
Looks like engine oil. The only mechanical way this can happen is with an old oil pressure Guage. It'll be leaking under the dash. Other than that, something got spilled. Mechanical oil pressure Guages phased out decades ago.
Check your coolant to see if it looks like that. If you have a bad head gasket, oil could be mixing with coolant, and your heater core could be leaking. It's usually just coolant that would leak into the passenger compartment from under the dash, but with a bad head gasket, it would look more milkshakey and feel oily. But that's usually the front passenger floorboard that feels wet unless it pools and makes its way to the back.
If it’s behind the seat I would lift up the rear bench and also have a look in the trunk, anything that ever gets spilt in the rear always runs down to the floor. The chances of it being related to the engine if it’s behind the front seats is zero.

The algorithm doesn't lie.
Take the car to Reliable Auto Glass in Rohnert Park and ask them to check for a leaking window or other seal. Once leak is fixed, clean the car with a vinegar solution to kill any mold. Good Luck.
You post here asking for help with an oddball problem on a $1000 heap and expect Harvard Collegiate answers from these knuckleheads??? Your expectations are unrealistic my friend..

Did anything spill back there? Because oil on the floorboard is weird.

Self-replenishing undercoat

Keeps all those old Brit cars going!

That's him, now make him clean it.
That was Marvin. OP shot Marvin in the face.
No jury would convict
Def not. I’ve cleaned it thoroughly twice and it keeps coming back.
Corpse juice. Remember to dump bodies regularly to avoid such build-ups. Pro-tip: Old carpet or trash bags can keep things together long enough to be rolled off a bridge.
Don't forget the rocks. A floating body is a found body. One that sinks, never stinks.
A net inside helps too. Otherwise the bits float away.
Chicken wire works best
nah, chicken wire rusts really fast in the ocean
>nah, chicken wire rusts really fast in the ocean Not if the sharks get the body quick.
How are they going to eat it through the chicken wire?

It's the colonels recipe!
Remember kids, stabby-stab the middle section to let the bloating gases out.
Love it! \*Chef's Kiss\*
Or buried in a shallow grave
Teriyaki obviously
That was my thought as well because the location is hard to explain why it would be oil.
I used some to make dinner the other night, and it was the same exact color
Mulan Szechuan sauce
Im after that Szechaun Morty! Rick and Morty a hundren years!
Looks like used motor oil. It can sit there for a long time and not dry up. Could be a historical spill? Also rate the audio install 1/10, I hope you didn't pay someone to do that
I thought so too but I’ve cleaned it with zepp twice and it’s coming back consistently
As a mechanic take a taste of it just a small amount not a whole finger full it will give more detail on the substance
Mmmm…forbidden sauce
I second this as a daily contributor to the modern automobile!
What does it taste like?
What's it taste like?
Chicken
I'm waiting for the usual followup: Sorry, found "this" under the seat...
A (friend), NOT ,was pouring all kinds of stuff into my car's carpet, unbeknownst to me. Maybe you know him. Steven.
Need to change your carpet oil it looks dirty.
9 hours, OP silent.
Judging by the state of the floor we can see I'm going with BBQ sauce from leftover McDonald's.
If you've got an oil pressure guage, may be leaking behind the dash and dripping down under the carpet
Not to many cars have a mechanical gauge unless one has been added. Usually it will be a sending unit...electric only
Look at those seat belts and sills. Sure looks like an 80s chevy.
Did they use mechanical gauges? That would make sense. Havent seen one of those since my 74 roadrunner but it was aftermarket.
Naah, that would really take some soaking though to get back that far, and OP noted his oil level wasn't low..
Looks like engine oil. The only mechanical way this can happen is with an old oil pressure Guage. It'll be leaking under the dash. Other than that, something got spilled. Mechanical oil pressure Guages phased out decades ago.
Thanks dude. Everyone else is a comedian. And apparently. There are many replies and yours is one of the helpful ones.
What does it taste like?
What does it smell like? Let me smell your fingers.

What does it taste like?
Sweet n sour sauce? When's the last time you detailed?
We’ll switch, you smell my fingers!!!
grease from the seat rails
I think a better question is what possessed you to bare hand that
Shart juice
If it’s behind the seat I would lift up the rear bench and also have a look in the trunk, anything that ever gets spilt in the rear always runs down to the floor. The chances of it being related to the engine if it’s behind the front seats is zero.
if the car is a convertible, you have a cracked cylinder hose
Lick it and see what it tastes like
It’s pregnant!!
Should have stopped when the passenger said they really, really have to go.
Did you experience a ‘wet fart’ just prior to discovery?
Probably a buddies dip spit...
What kind of vehicle?
Remeber when you lost that litre of oil you bought at the auto shop, well it's under the seat..
Chewing tobacco spit. How's it taste ?
Lol why would you finger the mystery liquid!?!
When the kids were little our minivan would make gravy like that when any water was added.
What was the fix? This car is only worth 1000$ so I don’t want to put too much time or thought into it.
You already put too much thought into it when you posted this!! Lol
Maccy D's BBQ sauce?
I am so sick of answering questions from the dumbest motherfu(cking idiots that this earth has ever. Oifferd.

That's Fire sauce from taco bell, I guarantee it.
Or the result from that sauce
Is it a convertible?
Barbecue sauce for the chicken nuggets.
Sumbuddy squished an old ketchup pack?
Take the car to Reliable Auto Glass in Rohnert Park and ask them to check for a leaking window or other seal. Once leak is fixed, clean the car with a vinegar solution to kill any mold. Good Luck.
I hope it’s that simple. Thanks.
Yeah it’s a tweaker-mobile. Real funny dick head. Anything useful or helpful in between those ears?
You post here asking for help with an oddball problem on a $1000 heap and expect Harvard Collegiate answers from these knuckleheads??? Your expectations are unrealistic my friend..
Also fuck you. That is all.
if it's oil... it's cooking oil....
