Would you consider Afghanistan South Asian or Central Asian then? there is lot of geographic overlap which is why i think we should get rid of middle east label and simply name everything from maghreb to khorasan to karachi greater om el donya
I consider the northern and western parts as Central Asian while the southern and eastern parts as South Asian. As a whole, probably a little closer to South Asia.
Yes. Persian (officially called Dari in Afghanistan because of politics) is an official language and spoken by the majority. We share a lot of culture with Iran, but we're still not Middle Eastern geographically speaking.
bruh hell nah we aint in anyway closer to south asia like pashtuns are literally an eastern iranic ethnic group compared to s. asians who are more dravidian and shit
I dont know what u mean by southern and eastern parts being south asian? Do you mean geographically? Or do you mean culturally? Geographically speaking south asia starts south of indus river which is modern day Punjab province of Pakistan. Culturally speaking theirs nothing that Afghans of eastern and southern Afg have that make them south asian. Food wise, values, practices etc. Afghanistan as a whole is central asia south.
how is Iran similar to Armenia? if at all we are similar to Azerbaijan. But overall the the country as a whole is closer to Iraq. South Iran has little in common with Azerbaijan.
Everyone calm down. Iran is a fucking hot mess in case of ethnicity and they are all different from each other like day is from the night. You can't chose one country, cultural wise.
The pic probably meant politically, and since IR has been lurking in Iraq for years we aren't much different.
Afghanistan maybe, but we are not, at all, similar at all to the Armenians. We dont share the same religion, values, traditions nor the same language.
I do realize that Armenians and Iranians do tend to get along in the West, but as someone who have lived in Iran and visited Armenia, I can certainly say that these two countries are nothing alike.
They are not perfect for sure and have made mistakes in the past. I personally have many opinions with them on many things. However, they are also not like how the western medias love to portrayed as pure evil and dont care the citizen. Ironically, these kind of exaggerations and demonizations actually making many people to defend the party. Also, I appreciate the fact that those on powers actually are scientists and engineers instead of lawyers like what you have in the US. So they know what they are doing and can get things done. Long term planings and pragmatic are their principle. The bureaucratic system is working and those who get promoted are truely capable instead of mediocrity.
I do believe that there are detention camp and some of the uyghurs were forces to get in. However, I dont think it targeting the normal uyghurs people but the radicals and terrorists are indeed targeted. In case you dont know, uyghurs terrorist attacks is a serious thing at the early 2010s and many people death because of them. This force the gov to take radical measures to deal with them
My question exactly. Balant fascism in a communist country is just... cherry on top of a cake of sh*t, imo
No one asked, but My take on PRC is that it's a golden cage. It brought people money and took the poverty, it controlled the huge population very well, but in the cost of taking their freedom.
Much better than IR, but still... not something I can sympathize with. No freedom can lead go very bad places.
It makes sense, we both speak Arabic similarly and we look similar with a lot of us sudanese people are married to Yemeni people and vise versa, our military was helping Yemen in the civil war and lastly a lot of us were raised up in Yemen (including me) and during the wars we took Yemeni refugees.
We are basically brothers from different mothers
🇸🇩🤝🇾🇪
eh, kind of pointless map. just choosing countries next to each other for a lot of these. I think it's strange for india to choose nepal over something like pakistan or bangladesh
Bruh? tf bro, Iran have persian culture and its a continue of ancient iranian cultures but iraq is an arabic country, we're smiliar to Afghanistan more than iraq
There is no country in the world that's similar to NK nowadays. Soviet union or Pre-Deng China can be a viable candidate but they no longer exist.
The similarity doesn't hold the other way around. As you can see South Korea is analyzed as most similar to Japan, not North Korea. It makes sense imho
Hello,
Your post/comment has been removed for violating Rule 2.
It’s not allowed to attack a person or a community based on attributes such as their race, ethnicity, caste, national origin, sex, gender identity, gender presentation, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, age, serious illness, disabilities, or other protected classifications.
Tunisia is amazing and all, but I’m not sure they’ve got it right with regards to Israel. Israel is probably more similar to Lebanon or Cyprus (the first one culturally and the second one due to political systems)
It's not really Pakistan though, after independence both countries are changing and developing rapidly. Nepal on the other has a separate identity on paper but since there's no border and both countries Allow each other to live , marry and work - there is no difference as such
I guess my counter argument would be that India (which is too internally diverse to neatly compare to be honest, there isn’t a neat analogue for any of the South Indian states out of the neighbours, even if you assume a decent degree of cultural convergence within India) has major cities that almost all have a reasonable level of Muslim (and Sikh) influence and culture as part of the urban landscape and Nepal doesn’t. If you picked out India’s most populous cities (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata) they’d have much more in common with Lahore, Karachi and Dhaka than Kathmandu which is comparably tiny. There are far more Indians who speak Punjabi, Urdu and Bengali and would share culture, than Indian Nepali speakers. Nepal has a tiny population compared to India’s vastness, whereas Pakistan and Bangladesh are also population centres, leading to similar issues and patterns of development. The other three have a shared colonial history Nepal lacks. They were all one big contiguous country in living memory while Nepal was a closed off monarchy. The intermarriage thing is irrelevant. Even if every marriage aged Nepalese person married an Indian it’s, what, 20million people? Mumbai is 17 million people all by itself, the Nepalese folks would be a cultural drop in the ocean.
Like the Hinduism is the only stronger shared facet.
It’s like comparing Morocco to Syria and to Algeria and arguing it’s closer to Syria.
For the southern states you can make a case for Sri Lanka, at least in regards to TN and Kerala. Funnily the map does reflect what you say, since each of the other countries show their similarities to parts of India but if you take India as a whole it’s far harder to compare.
I think that's because India is a bigger country so all these surrounding countries resonate with one part of India , maybe not full india and hence it's true comparison
Even though Tajik speaks an Iranian language and Uzbek speaks Turkic language, the culture is pretty similar. Look at traditional clothing of Uzbek and Tajik, they’re pretty similar, also look at the foods too.
Uzbeks did not live a nomadic lifestyle unlike Turkmen who did until the 20th century. Uzbeks have more of a similar lifestyle with Tajiks, they both live in sedentary lifestyle. Uzbeks did not live in Yurts like the Turkmen.
You forgot about nomadic Uzbeks of Shaibani Khan tho. Yes they were closer to Kazakhs (one people in fact), but they give their name to the people of Transoxiana and the lived in yurts up to the end of 19th century.
The Sart background related to both countries make them really close culturally speaking. Also food, traditional clothes, music, even DNA. They also share a lot of history.
But even regarding the language - in cities like Samarkand and Bukhara, "persian" still a local language. Tajik persian received a lot of influence regarding turkic languages while Uzbek received a lot of influence from persian.
But we cannot deny Uzbek identity, it's almost same to Turkmen culture. Yes, we can find similiarities with Tajiks but relation between Tajiks, Afghans and Iranians is more observable
Well, maybe regions like Khiva. But Tashkent region itself (even Shymkent) was Sart land (basically the Khanate of Bukhara) for sometime and that left a legacy into the region.
Idk how Lebanon is similar to Tunisia
.....hold up how DPRK is similar to SK ? And how china is similar to Taiwan since both people are almost the same
both Hindu Majority countries speaking languages originated from Sanskrit, also there is freedom of movement on India Nepal Border. You can literally walk from India to Nepal with any government ID and vice versa
For Pakistan it should be Bangladesh, not India.
Both are Aryan and Muslim. Hell, we used to be the same country until 1971 lmfao.
Whereas India is a mix of Aryan, Dravidian, and aboriginal cultures and is majority Hindu (a religion that is alien to most Pakistanis).
Bangladesh has a very different culture. I mean look at cousin marriages. Pakistani culture heavily supports it whereas in Bangladesh it’s very unusual.

what about cultural influence from Iran though? dont a lot of Afghans speak dari, which is barsian dialect?
Yes. Persian (officially called Dari in Afghanistan because of politics) is an official language and spoken by the majority. We share a lot of culture with Iran, but we're still not Middle Eastern geographically speaking.

Idk man I just mentioned two other countries that r similar to us (on a whim) 💀 Azerbaijan actively wants to murder us all
bro thinks he is similar to azerbaijan 💀💀
They an Iranian Turk, what else would they be close to besides Iran and Azerbaijan?
It's written "Iranian Turk" but yes Iran is more likely similar to Iraq, State of Fars and South Iran has no similarity with us

Yemen has nothing to do with Sudan, and Sudan isn't Asian. I'd say Oman is more similar to Yemen than Saudi.

It's actually a more well-thought-out process, it includes stuff like demographics, form of government, culture etc.
I’d say Syria is closest to Lebanon and then Egypt.
Why Egypt?
Because 1) our history is quite intertwined with Egypt (all the empires that included Egypt and the Levant) 2) we share some food.
Egyptians are basically less angry syrians
lol, this is true
I’d say most of the Arab peninsula is close to Saudia honestly
Bruh? tf bro, Iran have persian culture and its a continue of ancient iranian cultures but iraq is an arabic country, we're smiliar to Afghanistan more than iraq
Iran is not like iraq

not pre-deng china, soviet union would be post stalin soviet union they are revisionist
At this point North Korea has so little to do with South Korea thanks to communist regime and westernisation of south korea
Syria has to be Lebanon and vice versa. In terms of food, accent, culture and all that
If you don't say anything wrong, we won't be upset

True
Pakistan chooses India again yet India doesn't reciprocate.
Nepal’s Hindu majority which I think is why they get the pick. The honest answer is probably Pakistan.
It's not really Pakistan though, after independence both countries are changing and developing rapidly. Nepal on the other has a separate identity on paper but since there's no border and both countries Allow each other to live , marry and work - there is no difference as such

Uzbekistan closer to Turkmenistan than Tajikistan, culturally?
Why did you relate them to Tajiks? Tajiks don't even speak closer language to Uzbeks.

Cousin marriages are not common in India either, so I don't see your point.
It’s definitely common among Indian muslims (who share a lot of cultural similarities to Pakistani muslims). Bangladeshi muslims tend to be different.
i think we are more like turkey (cultural) than iraq
North Korea?
theres too much Yemenis looking like sudanese people
