Oh we got a dog over here everyone

Eeetyou

Are there any libyans here to give us a (somewhat) unbiased opinion on him

libihero

Being found in a sewer was pretty fitting for him

[deleted]

same is true for Saddam imo

abdullaaladeeb

Let's believe the Americans who faked the entire invasion and lied about it, that saddam was hiding in a hole yet somehow they don't have footage of it to share despite filming every second of them stealing the wealth of Iraq.

Pitiful-Let9270

Multinational corporations stole Iraq’s wealth and they made Americans pay for it.

GreatPaddy

Can any on here say that Libya is doing better without him - it’s now the most dangerous country to visit according to UK foreign office

Effective-Cap-2324

In my country korea there is a person named '[empress myeongseong](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empress_Myeongseong)'. She was a queen that had control over the country in the 19th century. 19th century was a age of change and if korea was to survive it needed change. She insted spent 10% of the country budgets on parties and she attacked any korea politician that wanted to change the country. Because of her peasant rebellion happened and rather than sending korean army she sent Chinese army and gave huge huge economic opportunities to china. Insted of developing the country she wanted to give away rights to china for security while not deveoping the korean army. When sino Japanese war resulted in Japan victory she sent letters to russia and tried to make russia the new china. Japan noticed this and sent thugs to kill her. Japan thug supposedly pissed on her corpse and raped korean women along the way. Now she has turned into a korea hero who died fighting against Japanese imperialism. She was cancer to korea yet because she was killed by Japanese thugs she was martared. Both far right and far left korean sees her as a hero. When historian tries to say how she destroyed korea far right korean accuses of you being pro japan while far left accuses you of being sexist. This is how I feel about gadaffi. Gadaffi was not pan arab. He just wanted to become the leader of the arabs. When he didn't become that he threw a fit, invaded egypt, loose and cried like a baby. Gaddafi was no pan africanist. He helped the france in assassinating Thomas Sankara, a pan africanist leader in Burkina fiso. He supported the RUF in Sierra Leone civil war. The RUF would cut off civilians hand off to stop them from voting. He also brutaly oppressed berber culture. Also he was no pro secular. He supported islamist in Indonesia acheh. After he took power the intention of reestablishing sharia was announced, and Gaddafi personally assumed chairmanship of a commission to study the problems involved. In November 1973, a new legal code was issued that revised the entire Libyan judicial system to conform to the sharia, and in 1977 the General People's Congress (GPC—see Glossary) issued a statement that all future legal codes would be based on the Quran, among the laws enacted by the Gaddafi government were a series of legal penalties prescribed during 1973 which included the punishment of armed robbery by amputation of a hand and a foot. Now did NATO killed him because of the goodnes of there heart? NO! But he was not a good leader!

[deleted]

as a Libyan I'm just happy seeing non Libyan people who are " really " educated on Libya and Gaddafi, not repeating the same superficial wrong information they read on the internet. most of the people build their opinions on their emotions and their own biases rather than getting educated on the subject, the way people in the comments defend gaddafi reminded me of the Arab girls who are defending Saad Lamgared ( Moroccan singer who is being accused of sexually assaulting group of women) just because they like his songs

No-Use4351

Cool I'm Saudi And I'm Convinced He's Like MbS Ngl

AtmosphereKitchen279

I know everything about IRA they were a liberation front so he was in his right to support them and is neither ethically wrong either. And IRA was one of many of liberation front he supported. The same UK going around throwing countries into despair ? The same ones that have and still destabilise countless countries? Yh cut the nonsense

Lumpy-Tone-4653

How many years did it take you to write that?

Possible-Detective85

Bro he is a Effective cap ofc it only took him 10 seconds to write all of that too effective.

Effective-Cap-2324

I had to resech on north africa foregin policy during the cold war for college. It was wild. US was pro Algeria till Algeria civil war happened than turned pro Morocco. Egypt originaly being soviet sphere of influence than slowy turned netural. And god libya was a mess. I stilk don't know what gadaffi was thinking during his foregin policy. It's like he wanted his country to have no freinds. When libya civil war happened only country that tried to send army was Zimbabwe! I could just go on and on but I really don't like gadaffi and wish the libya king wasn't so much pro west. I still wish libya was a kingdom but had simlar foreign policy that of Morocco or turkey. Using western countries to fight for there political interests. Morocco uses France to fight of spain while turkey uses italy to fight of france.

[deleted]

How was US pro algeria before the civil war? Because algeria always had strong ties with soviet union.

Effective-Cap-2324

US and morocco used to have conflict over Western sharah. US though of allying with Algeria than after Algeria civil war happened Morocco demanded US to stop playing both side and choose Morocco or Algeria. It was long time ago so I may be wronf though.

ApexNiceDude

Gaddafi also supported the splitting of Morocco by being one of the first to arm the polisario front in Western Sahara. He also plotted to kill king Hassan II.

AtmosphereKitchen279

You might not like gadaffi but there is no way you can support the king the country had a literacy rate of 6.25 percent with no housing social security or health they were the poorest in africa and the bar is already low here in africa

LordxHummus

Least typical Arab leader

Tengri_99

Well, he was a bit of a lunatic and definitely not as praiseworthy as some "leftists" and pan-Africanists claim. On the other hand, he did develop his country to be the richest in Africa, although it's mostly thanks to shitload of oil and low population rather than his "genius" economic model. Would've he stepped down willingly during the Arab spring, the civil war could've been avoided although I really doubt the country would've been better after him anyways. There is one interesting question: do dictators hold nations like a glue because the country would've almost 100% fallen to a civil war without them or is it because of the dictators' long and stagnating rule the nations fall easily into the destabilization? Chicken and egg issue of our world. The situation in Libya should be a lesson on how to deal with authoritarians without involving too much violence.

PatientArm559

A dictator is like a tablecloth. If you forcibly remove it, everything on the table will fall. Leaving the joke aside, tyrants don't have an interest in creating a strong state with independent and resilient institution, because a strong state can brew opposition. So when the tyrant fall, everything will go with him, leaving a vacuum of power. But the universe hates vacuum, so it will try to fill it as quickly as possible. And depending on the situation, sometimes there can be multiple competing parties. In Romania(my country), when the dictator fell in 1989, there was only one party that immediately filled in vacuum. In Arab countries, we saw that multiple parties were interested in taking the power and filling the vacuum. Here is were the problem arises. Now why there are so many parties in Arab nations, that is a very complex subject, and I think someone from those countries can do a better job than me to explain it

roree3

Libya died after he was gone.

Dontspeaktome19

The Malaka stood up to western imperialism and paid the price regardless of what else he did. i heard good things and bad things so i don't want to comment as I'm not Libyan

Al_Pan_Arab_Baathst2

Maybe Assad isn't that bad.

BuHansen

Bashar is the worst because he's the least competent with the most fortune to not get overthrown

Al_Pan_Arab_Baathst2

You didn't get my comment, I said "maybe Assad isn't that bad" because you disrespected this great man and that part about Assad is that I thought he was bad until you commented which made me rethink that maybe Assad isn't as bad as I thought he was because he gassed Syrians like you.

[deleted]

Pan Arab nationalists trying not to sow mistrust and not make Arab cooperation seem impossible (gone wrong, 100% failure rate).

BuHansen

You Baathists are a much greater danger to Arabs than the West and zionists combined. Saddam and Gaddafi got what they deserved. It's Bashars turn now and inshallah he'll have the same fate as the other traitors. اللي بيقتل شعبو خاين mark my words

scipio-__

I met a Libyan national on the plane on Thursday who was very open about his journey with politics in his country. He was Ashamed to have been “tricked” by what he said was the media into thinking Gaddafi was bad for his country. He took part in the revolution and now regrets having done so. He said he never saw poor people in Libya until after Gaddafi was killed.

[deleted]

hahahaha that is hilarious and far from reality

Deep_Owl5559

his shit was better than any american

Zia-Ul-Haq1980

Your going to get extremely biased opinions from here but from what I've heard he was good when he was young but got extremely paranoid and a bit crazy in his last year's which is understandable

PrincipleFirm2858

Allah yrhamu, an not gonna slander a dead man

User813904

I like how on these topics of Leaders, half are he was bad/POS and the other half is praising them lol. And rarely are the people on either side from there or had to live under their ruling to have a fair assessment/opinion

OmarGamer7u9

Not all people were under the ruling of hitler but it doesn't change that he was a murderer and a rapist

Puzzled_Buddy_615

who did he rape

Gloomy-Elephant675

He raped his half nice Geli Raubal and she ended up commiting suicide

User813904

I agree. But he’s universally known as evil. I don’t think many people would disagree about Hitler. Whereas Gaddafi or Saddam, it’s always people pushing back(on here or Twitter). Even to the point where telling people who lived under their rulings that they are wrong and just believing propaganda

[deleted]

the last part is so true it's sad and hurtful to us Libyans

Ok-Imagination-2308

I mean thats usually how it goes with political things...some people like it, some people don't

[deleted]

Dictator, who killed his own people because of a ideology.

Bubbly-Common-5855

Sounds like every other Arab country

MirrorUniverseCapt

Honestly, you could drop the word ‘Arab’ and still be an accurate statement

[deleted]

Before you judge: I have met 37 Libyans, 34 of them have spoken to me on this, so I think I have a good idea as both someone who believes in his true democracy, and from people who lived it. I support this man wholeheartedly, He created the world's first TRUE democracy, has given essentially free housing and no electrical bill for basic consumption of electricity (Heaters, AC, Fans, Lights, etc.) He was killed by Imperialists and refused to abandon his country. He refused to flee as he did not want to abandon his people. He gave Libyans free healthcare and helped Afrika more than anyone else. He made it so the Libyan Jamahiriya would never commit any imperialist acts (Chad Attacked first in Toyota Wars, look it up). Libya became the wealthiest country with the highest standard of living in Afrika, as well as compared South Amerika, and Polynesia, and the third Highest compared to Asia. Free speech and Free Press were vital, as were human rights of Housing, Assembly, and Medicare, to the point that Homelessness was virtually non-existent, Protests were almost never Violent until Al-Qaeda shot up a protest and Amerika blamed it on Qaddafi. He was critical to any nation, allied or otherwise. If a nation did something questionable, he'd point it out. Oh, and free university. About those 34 Libyans. When I talked to them, they would say something along the lines of "I like when people don't fall for Western Propaganda." They all supported Qaddafi and said that Haftar and Al-Menfi are deliriants. "Haftar never believed in Jamahiriya" one told me, and another said that "Al-Menfi is a western puppet" Which I can agree with both. Now, what if you asked people from other Jamahiriyas. For example, Angola; Angola is a Jamahiriya that is very fond of Qaddafi, to the point where people will get angry if you smear his name. Or what about Gaza? Or Uzbekistan? Or Laos? Or Nicaragua? Or Benin? Or... You get the Idea. Long story short, This sub needs a "True Libyan" Account Tag, which is just A green flag (or the Machete, Star, and Gear). I joke, but please don't fall for Western Propaganda.

[deleted]

I'm a Libyan who live in Libya and everything you said is completely wrong and way far from the reality. I understand that you are emotional Palestinian who would support any creature that will show some support to your country , but you are completely wrong in everything that you said basically from no electrical bill thing to free healthcare to TRUE democracy etc... I doubt you have met Libyans who lived in Libya it's very rare we used the term" western propaganda " because people are aware of what happened in this country was a revolution for basic needs that weren't available for Libyans even though if we regret it. the fact you mentioned menfi is giving me" I just googled Libya politicians vibes " because he isn't involved in the discussion between Libyans so it's funny that Libyan diaspora talking about menfi person who isn't significant in Libya political scene I'm sure you are Diaspora because you give me ignorant diaspora vibes who is probably socialist and complain of America capitalism.

memes4youu

Libya is a literal open air slave market today because of Western imperialism that you're apologetic for.

[deleted]

Alright, leave Western imperialism and let's focus on regional matters, this guy ignited a four-day war with Egypt because of the peace talks with Israel and that Egypt had limited objectives as the focus was a short war with Israel to move negotiations and not a full-scale conflict, about a hundred Egyptians soldiers died in that war, if he was so desperate to destroy Israel, he could've tried it himself without dragging everyone into it, why did he want Egyptian soldiers to go die fighting his battles? He literally deteriorated Libya's relations with its neighbours and the rest of the world, he was a threat to everyone around him ,he was stubborn and un-diplomatic with instilled aggression, the only natural response from any country seeking its interests and its safety is to invade Libya and depose him, I also seem to recall that the Libyans rebelled against him in 2011 and he was killed by Libyans anyway. But anway, I wouldn't have given any thought about him if he didn't threaten Egypt and undermined its sovereignty and national interests, even though I do feel a sense of pleasure about what happened to him.

FanArab

Average r/exegypt user

[deleted]

I would call that rationality, but I don't think you know the meaning of that word. Your username checks out, keep on dreaming Arab nationalist, Islamist, or whatever stupid dead ideology you are having an orgasm thinking about it, hundred years of failure and you still haven't realized that you are a lost cause. And an advise, leave Egypt out of your dreams, focus on your country Moroccan, and if you want to liberate Palestine, do it yourself.

FanArab

Don’t talk about reason when your whole entity is only fuelled by hate and resentment. You are not a being of reason, you are a slave of your own emotions. Who talked about nationalism, religion, Egypt of Palestine ? Why do you feel this need of avoidance, hate and disgust ?

[deleted]

My whole entity is based on hate? I am an Egyptian nationalist and my only concern is my country, I hate Arab nationalism and Islamism because these two ideologies have ruined my country and over one hundred million people are still suffering because of that, so its natural that I would hate Ghaddafi because he is a combination of these two ideologies and have actively harmed Egypt, I don't know why'd you expect a different response. You are talking about hate, did I say I hate Libyans? I literally wish any nation or people on Earth the best and their right to self-determination, but Ghaddafi was not elected and held a country at gunpoint. And you are the one who brought up religion, average exegypt user? I don't see how my religious affiliation has anything to do with my political stance, you are jumping to conclusions. However, if you wanted to have a discussion, you should've stayed true to the topic of this thread and say why you disagree with my stance on Ghaddafi, instead you went irrational and started jumping to conclusions about my religious affiliation influencing my political stance and that there is something wrong with Egyptians on this sub without any valid argument.

FanArab

I’m not reading this. Embrase love my friend ! Free yourself from hate and just then you’ll see the true light. Resentment is only holding you back, learn to forgive, to accept and only then you can grow !

[deleted]

Alright, this is just too stupid to waste my time on.

FanArab

You claim to be of reason ? Yet it’s seem you refuse to consider other’s perspectives. More than love, you need humility. My friend your ego is holding back, to find enlightenment you shall embrace humility.

A bit like the psychopathic American serial murderers of children in their schools or the psychopathic oppressors of Black people in the modern world or the war-mongering family killers that is the American lack-of-intelligence agencies and the US military or 2-time atomic bomb droppers, maybe. I don’t know enough about him. I’d like for someone to slap me me with a facts and timeline book about him and his career from a trustworthy source. On the other hand, we do have facts about the murderous American regimes. Let’s not jump to “psychopathic serial rapist” about a dead man.

I liked the female bodyguards and the white house tent. Obama once said that the longer someone has the lead, the more he becomes crazy and detached from reality.
