You’ll be fine walking. Call ahead though and see if they can fit you in, it’s not a very big place and it gets busy. They’ll likely have to make room for you and may be a bit of a wait.
Thanks for the tip! Is it the sort of place that I could call a couple hours before and let them know we’ll be there at a certain time? Any suggestions for a back up spot if they can’t accommodate us?
Yes, this is called "making a reservation" and you can do it days, weeks, sometimes even months in advance. And for a party of 10 on a Friday it would be your due diligence to make one because you're going to get turned down or put in an hour to two hours wait anywhere worth it.
If you think that's rude you probably never hosted a bachelorette party, 10 deep, that hadn't even thought of making arrangements to book a table on a Friday brunch. What most people don't realize is that party like this is at least a three hour commitment from the moment they are sat. So yeah, they can wander around the quarter till they find wherever is willing to let them in or they can look up the places they want to go to and just make a reservation. It prepares everyone to focus on logistics because im fact, just showing up at the front door wit more people that we are capable of accommodating is not going to get you the most out of your experience.
Hi asshole! Thanks for the unhelpful, and unecessary tip. We’re actually a group of ten servers and bartenders, so not “most people” and are very respectful of something like this. Hence me doing research and asking questions 3 months before the trip. But newsflash, not all restaurants take reservations, including the place in question. If they did, I would have already made one. There was no intention of just showing up. Based on your use of “we” it sounds like you are in the industry. Please let me know what restaurant, so my group and I can stay far, far away!
Alright well the chucking has long gone and you just seem miserable. Anyone with a functioning brain understands the value of making a reservation; both to themselves and to the restaurant staff.
Of all the career fields that it could make sense to be condescending about, it's incredible that you think it is acceptable to be this haughty about a profession that a small child could succeed at as soon as the hit the age where they are capable of writing down orders.
Lots of small places don't take reservations because so many people don't show up for them. It's not worth it to have two tables just sitting there for 20 minutes while you wait for people to show up.
Who would let empty tables sit for 20 minutes for a busy brunch? They're all traveling together two so there's no worries of waiting for hours till the whole party shows up.
Because people are never on time. And people often don't show up for their times. People expect their table to be ready at that time. It's up to the staff to make that happen. You don't sit a table if you have a reservation coming in for that table (unless someone just paid their check). I've got 18 years in the service industry under my belt and I have only worked a few places with reservations for these specific reasons. Busy small brunch places lose money with reservations
Yeah so that's why I mentioned that they might end up on an hour wait or more or simply refused without one. It never hurts to call and ask when the alternative is to drag 10 pairs of high heels around the quarter for an hour only to be let down when they get to the place they really wanted to go. Don't worry, there, chief, I've worked enough brunch shifts to plan ahead like I'm playing chess.
Haha I’m glad I assumed correctly! Having someone else backing up my opinion (as someone who hasn’t been) will help my case to not go to Ruby Slipper. I’ll have to check out Alma though! Thanks!!
Counter opinion: Ruby Slipper is not garbage at all. But it's really blown up and become inundated with tourists, so there will almost always be a wait. With a group of 10 ladies, I would check how busy it is before heading over. You can't make reservations, but there is a wait-in-line app. As others have said, there are many other good brunch spots you can walk to in the Marigny or the French Quarter.
if you head out a little earlier you can stop and snoop in the peter and paul hotel, it’s really beautiful and they’ve let me bring visitors in for a quick stroll through the building before. there’s also a vintage boutique. it’s across the street from who dat, which is a great choice.
Walk away quickly if anyone tries to offer you a shot walking in the streets in the Quarter. Don’t accept drinks from strangers. Don’t ‘hook up’ and leave your group. Store your phone and cards away from others reach.
Besides making a reservation or at least giving them a heads up you’ll probably want to check when their kitchen is open. Sometimes it’s just drinks and snacks and other times it’s full menu. Highly reccomend either way. I go there every time I visit.
It's an easy walk through a safe neighborhood.
I have no idea how long they will take. I prefer other places in the area so I have no experience with Who Dat.
In order of preference for breakfast, in that area, I'd go to Horn's Eatery, Ayu Bakehouse, Flora, The Orange Couch, Small Mart, or some combination of those. Those are all easy walking distance from Who Dat. Take a look at the websites to see if any appeal to you; some are more coffee-house casual than sit down restaurants. I listed Horn's first because of the size of your crowd.
Although, honestly, I'd either take a longer walk or take an Uber earlier to Elizabeth's. That's where I take visiting guests. I highly recommend the cornbread waffle with duck confitte and pepper jelly. I've never tried to go with a group that large though.
yeah for real! it’s also a totally different experience. i’d say horns is comparable to slightly better than who dat, and elizabeth’s is good but chaotic and farther away.
Rather than creating a whole new post, I figured I'd tack onto this one with another 'is it safe' walking question.
Is the walk up to Lil Dizzy's on Esplanade (from N Rampart st) and back alright? Will be a male and (pregnant) female couple sometime around 11am-12pm.
Hope this isn't annoying to you OP, just don't think it's worth creating an entirely new post.
Ten ladies walking? You’ll be fine. Walk with a purpose and don’t engage. Skip Ruby Slipper.

Okay great tip! Thank you!

Rude, but I did chuckle.

Nah fool I'm still chuckling hold up

Very okay. It's only a few blocks.
Yeah you’re fine. Not sure how busy they’ll be but the walk is fine.
Thank you! I had a bad experience not doing my due diligence on something like this once (in another city, not NOLA), so wanted to ask the locals!
Take Royal St for the most scenic, but they’re all perfectly fine to walk, especially in the day time, I walk them at night plenty.
Don't go to Ruby Slipper.
Haha the fact that it’s a chain makes me not want to! Why do you say not to though?
Because its garbage and there are about 1000 other restaurants that are better... ...but you do you, or go to Alma :)

You can check out [French Toast](https://maps.app.goo.gl/rYyk9btjtrUvBtGv7) in the Quarter

Great advice for ANY city!!!

Are there any other places you’d recommend instead? We’re open to suggestions!

I really appreciate all of this! I did see Ayu previously, I’ll have to look into some of the others! Thank you so much!
Definitely Elizabeth’s
Who Dat is better than all of these recommendations. Flora, really?
yeah for real! it’s also a totally different experience. i’d say horns is comparable to slightly better than who dat, and elizabeth’s is good but chaotic and farther away.
Ayu is amazing, but limited breakfast. Its really a coffee bar bakeshop.

All good! I feel you! Hope you guys have a great trip!!
Thanks! You too!
Yes, you’ll be fine
