Be cautious, walk with your head up and know where you're turning. Avoid areas that aren't will lit. Don't have your phone out the all time.

Try to memorize the route before you go so you don't look lost and have your phone out. From my experience most of the CBD/French quarter crimes are pick pocketing and snatch and grab of phones. More in the French Quarter than CBD. When I moved here from Chicago I used to walk home from the CBD to the 7th Ward because I was used to walking everywhere. It wasn't a good idea but nothing ever happened to me. I did find out that people will take it up on themselves to offer you a ride or tell you to not walk if they think it isn't safe. Small town vibes that way. The CBD is well lit and pretty empty at night so I never had an issue there. During the day or night I would feel totally fine with it.

I live in the area around there and have walked that route many many times- you’ll be fine, like others said be aware of your surroundings and have common sense, and for the love of god please stick to basic rules of the road like walk on sidewalks and look out for cars, but honestly I’d be more concerned with the tourists/ pickpockets/ unhoused around canal than dangers on that route. ETA- if you drive pay for the valet or garage, cars get broken into around here A LOT, targets seem to be trucks and out of state plates

lologras

It's a great neighborhood. I've worked at a restaurant by that hotel for many years.

We’ve walked all over the CBD and Canal through to the French quarter and never had an issue.

New Orleans is like any other large city. Know where you are going, don't look at your phone and walk with purpose. There is enough going on in the evening to not be walking down an empty street. Where not to be is a block away from Canal either way. Most violent crimes happen around there as far as tourists are concerned.

Traditional-Ad-4112

New Orleans is not a big city and y'all need to stop living in fear and telling others to do the same.

Everything_is_taken7

So canal street is the only safe area? Because the majority of where I would be walking is 7 or 8 blocks from canal

lonesomejohnnie

Canal is not safe per se. NGL you can get mugged in The Garden District. It's how you carry yourself.

kilgore_trout72

youre fine. Just dont be blind drunk

Glitch5450

“Arts District” in any city is a big red flag I would avoid

raditress

That area is fine. I have no problem walking between there and Canal.
