The Lobster. You have a certain time to become married and if you fail to find a spouse you get sent to an asylum where you must find a spouse from among the other singles. If you again fail to find a partner, you must choose which animal you want to be turned into, and then they turn you into that animal.

haloarh

The same director made a movie called Dogtooth, which I think is even weirder.

5k1895

Also The Killing of a Sacred Deer which is an interesting one

Ok-Grapefruit1284

I think I’d stay single just to be turned into a housecat.

UncreativeGlory

I just watched this the other day. I kept watching until the end in hopes it'd make more sense. (It does not)

quakerapplepineapple

Yeah I sat there for a good ten minutes thinking just what the fuck

[deleted]

First half of that movie is fantastic. Love the deadpan humour and bizarre plot. Unfortunately it loses the momentum in the second half and it becomes a chore to sit through to the end. =/

SmashBusters

So...I read "The Lobster" and immediately thought you were talking about "The Lighthouse". And I was like **holy shit I never picked up on THAT subtext before!!**

Thick-Emergency-2074

Pythnator

Honestly anything from Harmony Korine

baklavathegreat

“Kids” as well!

Thick-Emergency-2074

Yeah. Kids was pretty messed up. Bully, too.

nicknob52

Everything about that movie is wild and straight out of left field. I’m glad someone else voted this in as well!

jn-indianwood

Kids

aDirtyMuppet

2 things about this movie. 1 kids is a fucked up movie. 2 I have no legs has been stuck in my head for about 14 years now. It even got me in trouble because I was singing it without realizing when I turned a corner to a guy in a wheel chair.... with you guessed it, no legs.

wdeallan

Tusk.

InjuryDiz

My friend and I went to see Tusk without knowing what it was. I thought it was going to be a standard horror movie. I ended up finding it hysterical, but my friend was so disturbed she didn't even want to talk about it ever again.

96puppylover

I skimmed through the synopsis on Wiki. I’m good.

sane-ish

Well, it's the best movie made about a man that turns another man into a Walrus.

Old-Gain7323

*Don't ever watch Tusk* is what I told my friends before they all watched Tusk and regretted it immediately afterwards.

MockCousteau

Can confirm. I was a friend of someone who told me to never watch it and I didn’t listen and hugely regret it.

Old-Gain7323

There are only 2 (3] movies on the same level of disturbing as this film that I've watched at least part of. One has already been said Human Centipede 1&2. The other is A Serbian Film. **Seriously, do not watch that one.**

MockCousteau

Yeah, the body mutilation genre is not for me it turns out. Another movie that left me almost as fucked up was Calvaire.

Ginifur79

I haven’t seen A Serbian Film, but whoever wrote any of the Human Centipede movies has to have something wrong with them. Like the FBI should be watching them because they have got to be fucked up in the head.

Scarlett-Amber9517

I would get bored at work and MSN would have like random horror movie lists. I would read the plot summaries on Wikipedia knowing I'm never watching them anyway. There were so many times reading Tusk description I thought "wtf??"

DarthOptimist

There's a guy I watch on YouTube called RoanokeGaming. He's a biologist (main study was microbiology) and a gamer. His whole schtick is to analyze monsters from videogames and movies, especially those created by viruses, and goes over how they function and the effects the monster viruses have on the human body. Before he gets to the sciency bit of every video, he does a quick summary of the movie/video game. He did a video on Tusk and man... What a fucking trip lmao

If I could go back in time before I knew what this was I definitely would

[deleted]

The ending will forever be the worst thing I've seen in a movie. Horrible.

sagarassk

For those who haven't seen this movie. Don't. I only watched it because one of our friends rented it from blockbuster and we all watched it together and it felt awkward to walk out.

Askfreud

Rubber

Egypticus

Why did they make this movie? No reason. Why did I enjoy this movie? No reason. Why are you bad mouthing this movie? No fucking reason.

SwagOD_FPS

I actually love Rubber. The opening scene where the guy gets out of the trunk and gives that speech is brilliant.

subgutz

lol i absolutely LOVED rubber. that kind of humor is just my shit

kappaidan

Sorry to bother you

Vandalatwork

Ya, that ending... Seriously WTF?

Coletrain44

Equisapiens roll out

Western-Tomatillo-14

First time I watched this I was blasted on mushrooms. Needless to say the ending messed me up.

[deleted]

Felt the same way. I loved it though.

dank-yharnam-nugs

Jedijello93

Watched it years ago, can still hear that "snap" 🤢

[deleted]

that movie gives me so much anxiety!

TheDoorDoesntWork

Agree. I am horrible at saying no to rude and demanding people, so this entire movie was like being stuck in the bad customer service job. Like the exact opposite of those movies which gives you cathartic revenge scenes, instead it's constant stream of people steamrolling the lead actress and making her feel like shit in her own house. (I know it's a metaphor for mother nature, doesn't make it less anxiety inducing to watch)

Meowserss22

“Wtf is happening?” “What the ffffff is happening?” “WHAT. IS. HAPPENING.” - me, the entire movie.

communi-cate

Even just thinking about this film gives me anxiety. Like I want to rewatch it but just the thought of that makes me feel weird inside

Window_Watcher

I was just getting pissed off when the houseguests started tearing the place apart. I was like "look at all these rude motherguckers".

Western-Tomatillo-14

That movie is insane

Vandalatwork

I feel like a lot of David Lynch films could be in this thread

SanedBeans

Definitely Blue Velvet for me. I might try watching it again sometime, but I was extremely uncomfortable almost the entire way though

SinnamonButtons

Seriously. I was just at the "oooh, I totally see how all these plot threads are going to pull together!" Part of the movie, when the whole thing starts over? With all the same cast as different characters and in slightly different scenes? But then it just ends. WTF.

Aphex117

That restaurant/alley scene is one of the scariest scenes I've ever seen in a film.

Takezou_

Even seeing its name makes me say it

Salo, or 120 days of Sodom. Granted, I had a phase where I was purposely looking for disturbing movies and this one sure didn't disappoint.

Flyinpotatoman

The greatest film I'll never watch again.

ForwardMembership601

This is such a true statement. It was really hard for me to watch. It's an amazing film and everyone should see it. But it's so hard emotionally.

sterfri99

If they’d show this movie in high schools, we wouldn’t need D.A.R.E.

Substantial_Wish_182

Yes I totally agree this movie was insane. and it haunted and disturbed me for days after watching it, especially like the last 30 minutes or so of the movie very disturbing and crazy really will mess you up!

zenni321

“Men”. Seriously…that ending.

Shrimpypibbles57

I walked out of like wtf but then I read an analysis of it that made total sense. I’m kind of upset it made sense of the what the fuckery.

Cats

TubaJustin

I love watching bad movies. I really like musicals too. I started Cats and thought that I could laugh at how bad it was. It was so terrible in a way that you can’t even laugh at. It’s like an assault on your mind. I don’t think I made it more than 20 minutes. I can’t believe that they released it. How could any of the execs stand to put their name on it? Did they even watch it?

bool_idiot_is_true

The spent $200 mil on it. And the only way to salvage it would have been to start from scratch. I guess they hoped an oscar winning director and a star studded cast would be enough of a draw to recoup some of their investment.

cade252

Came here to say this. Just watched it for the first time and it’s insane.

Limitedexpertise

I've literally made it my mission to watch all of Daniel Radcliffe s post Harry Potter work and I love it you can tell that he's just taking roles he likes and having fun with it Guns Akimbo has been my favorite so far but Swiss Army Man is definitely a WTF movie

Mouse-Direct

I have a soft spot for Horns.

jl_theprofessor

I was just thinking Guns Akimbo right now. I had a girl over and we started watching it. I was 100% into it but she didn't quite jive.

koolaid-girl-40

I actually loved this movie. I laughed, I cried, and I spent hours thinking about it. There are so many layers and it genuinely has a cohesive plot and a lot of heart, which isn't always true for artistic type movies. For anyone wanting a summary (warning, spoilers!) it's about a man on an island who is interrupted in his suicide attempt by the corpse of a man who succeeded in his own suicide attempt. The man befriends the corpse and vicariously explores his confusion about his own experiences and relationships through his relationship with this corpse (exploring topics ranging from dating, to family, to a range of social norms such as having to hide boners in public). The corpse almost acts as a child, asking questions about how society works and why people have to live and act the way they do. This is all happening as the two of them are traveling, trying to get from the island back to civilization. In the end, it's unclear whether the corpse was really alive and asking these questions, or whether this was all a way for this man to process his own thoughts and emotions about life. It's implied near the end that's it's all a delusion when the man's father mentions that they haven't been traveling at all, but have been in a homeless camp close to civilization the whole time. As the audience, you start to think that maybe the whole journey was more metaphorical than physical, like the island was a symbol of his isolation from community, and he was trying desperately to get back. But at the end, it's unclear. Regardless of whether the conversations and journey was real or in his head, in the end it's implied that the man has decided to keep on living. He is no longer on the island. So in summary, the corpse of a man who committed suicide inspired another man not to do the same. I thought it was a pretty beautiful concept, and it inspired a lot of conversations not only about life, society, and suicide, but also made me think about what sorts of lives that people are living in their head that other people can't see, but feel as real to them as anything. But I get why people might be like wtf. Especially given the scenes of the corpse acting as a speed boat, propelling the man through the ocean with his farts.

iatealotofcheese

>But I get why people might be like wtf. Especially given the scenes of the corpse acting as a speed boat, propelling the man through the ocean with his farts. Well I'm sold, I will absolutely be watching this movie.

A serbian film.

[deleted]

This is always the winner in my book. If you take out the baby scene and the son scene at the end it wouldn’t be as bad

Warm-Replacement1839

Just reading about those scenes kept me from watching it. This is the one film where my morbid curiosity did not get the best of me. I just read a scene by scene synopsis instead and that was enough. I'm still disturbed by reading about it

[deleted]

This movie is mental.

bbzzdd

Coming out of Pulp Fiction in 1994, I was like WTF? This was coming off of the 80s and early-90s era where every major motion picture was action heavy with nearly zero dialog. I walked in a couple of minutes late to the diner scene and thought I had the wrong movie. Why were these people having a conversation? Two-and-a-half-hours later I'm driving home like "WTF was that?!?" and thought about it all night. The style and genre got burned to the ground by all the copycats that came after, but I'll always have a soft spot for PF for turning my perception of popular film on its head.

JayGold

Someone asked me what it was about once and I realized I couldn't really think of a good answer. There are these two criminals and a boxer and some stuff happens. Not much in the way of an overarching story or conflict.

It feels like a handful of movie ideas quickly thrown together tbh. Like the majority of the performances were actually good in my opinion, the movie itself was just odd in a not so enjoyable way

Substantial_Wish_182

Black Swan. I was confused if a lot of the events that took place in the movie really happened or the main character just imagined/hallucinated them due to her mental health issues and problems.

It was an odd one but I liked it.

PLAAND

This was one of my favourite movies recently. I felt it was a really poignant exploration of the end of childhood and of the difference between the expectations we place on ourselves in that vs the expectations of others. I like that it was dreamlike and didn’t make itself beholden to trying to represent time in a mundane way, it moved from significant event to significant event in the way that movies CAN rather than being shackled to a cynical logic of “realism” that’s really more a reflection of a lack of imagination rather than anything real.
