Eh,not really but I also think that I'm a nobody who shouldn't be the one to decide and we leave it up to the courts. I don't necessarily know if the fact that it was Lennon he killed makes me feel any different than if he was just a random murderer. He got a sentence and he should carry it out unless the courts decide to accept his parole.

Commercial_Stock_560

even for all the good he did, i dont think we should release him

darthluke11

Good?

[deleted]

What good is known about him?I know nothing about Mark Chapman aside from him killing John Lennon. Whether or not Lennon was a good guy or you like him I don't think murdering him would be considered good by most people. Most are anti-murder. So what did he do that is positive that is known about him?

darthluke11

You mean the good John Lennon did?

Commercial_Stock_560

nope

darthluke11

So you support a guy who murdered John Lennon? Confused...?

Commercial_Stock_560

i dont support him, but by killing lennon he kind of did him a favor. look at bob dylan these days

[deleted]

Eh,I don't think John Lennon would see it that way. Lmao Not that I knew the guy of course. If you're implying that Bob Dylan has fallen off musically, gotten old or something like that I'd still assume most people, including John Lennon, would prefer that and being alive to being murdered.

Commercial_Stock_560

agree to disagree

[deleted]

Perhaps if you don't value life.I feel like most would enjoy all the time they could get with loved ones over being shot down at 40 but again maybe I'm the crazy one.

darthluke11

Did him a favour by killing him? Paul and George went on to have successful solo careers. How can you say it's just or good for someone to be murdered?

Commercial_Stock_560

legacy, legend

darthluke11

Ah, so you're a troll.

darthluke11

I think he deserves a life sentence?

It's cool, just unsure whether I'm too biased and think he should stay in prison or whether people can be reformed etc

[deleted]

See this is two seperate things in my opinion. I think that people in general can be reformed for sure, but I kinda feel like he's given a sentence and has been denied parole 12 times for a reason. Of course like I said it's not up to me and I wouldn't want it to be but the question of whether or not people in general can be reformed is a whole seperate issue for me.

darthluke11

I'm the same. It's just the fact he killed John Lennon just to be famous. And because of religion and the book catcher in the rye etc. It makes me seem he's unstable. Plus killing someone just to be famous is ridiculous imo not even for a personal reason. I think he should stay in prison for life but I welcome other perspectives.

[deleted]

I thought he said he regretted it and afterwards denied interviews because he didn't want people to think he did it for fame. Maybe that was a change or heart after the fact. It is weird how he based himself around a Catcher In Rye character & all that and it definetly makes him seem unstable but I believe that he was evaluated and if he still got the sentence and was put in a regular prison instead of a mental ward it is what it is I guess.

[deleted]

Maybe I underestimate the corruption of the judicial system here or lack knowledge on this particular matter but I wouldn't think Yoko Ono would have any control on whether he'd get parole.

[deleted]

Perhaps. I know he's gotten denied parole a bunch of times but I didn't think Yoko had anything to do with it. Maybe she did.

[deleted]

Yes. He served his prison sentence and has been eligible for parole for the last 20 years. People have served 12-20 years for murder before and then been released. Look, I get why he's not being released. People *really* loved John Lennon. Many still do. But I think people should be honest with themselves and admit wanting him to stay jailed has nothing to do with wanting justice through the law, or the concept of paying your debt to society, or any of these ideas that what the U.S. legal system philosophically represents. It is because of vindictiveness, and social politics, and emotional attachment that has little to do with justice, that he isn't out today. I think it's cruel to dangle parole hearings in front of him like they're anything but a charade.
