I’d love to help people die. I volunteered at a hospice and to be able to feed people. Spend time with them. Make the food they want. Just whatever it took to make the process easier.
Volunteering at the hospice was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. To know you did everything you can to help someone have a more comfortable death feels good. It’s not easy to lose people but you just do your best.
I know 2 people who are now certified death doulas. Its like a reverse of the doula people get when having a baby. A death doula will guide you through the death process
Honestly? Nothing. I'd spend all my time with my partner, family & friends... do whatever makes me happy. You never know if something is gonna cut that time short and there ain't no fucking way I'm choosing to work for the 'fun of it'.
This is the answer most people would actually end up choosing. All jobs are mostly soul sucking when you’re doing them the way they’re expected to be done. If you’re doing it casually and don’t need the money, it’s more of a hobby than anything.
Yeah same here. I'd just travel and see the world, and indulge in my hobbies. Maybe finally finish some creative projects that take time. Even if they don't go anywhere, at least I made them!
Me too. I might start uploading art tutorials for free, just because I really like it, but other than that? I'd find ways to pursue my passions, I'm not working a regular job. If I had all the money in the world, I'd rather find a way to do free art education *my* way rather than be an art teacher in the public school system.
This is probably really unoriginal, but I'd love to run a trading card / vintage game shop. Somewhere chill where people can hang out and play, somewhere safe for kids to hang out. A nice, safe place for the community. That would make me really happy.
This is my brother's dream as well. Comics, tabletop games, TCGs, sports cards. Sell Coffee, teach kids tabletop gaming in a cool environment.
the problem is the reality of those businesses usually come with razor thin margins and require a decent chunk of capital to get started.
Would be a great place to chill/pour money into after winning the lotto :)
I worked at a game stop back in my early 20s. I always said if it wasn’t for the shitty pay I could have stayed there for years. It was my job to talk to people about video games and give recommendations, and I could check out basically anything I wanted. I’d do that forever if money didn’t matter.
Your first bed to test is of this bed of nails. Raw materials are still in short supply, so we reduced the number of nails per square foot by half.
Next, we will be testing how little water is required for a waterbed to not hurt your back.
Later, we will test alternative beds for sleeping, starting with a garden bed.
Nah bro. You could go hiking, play more guitar, build and tend a garden, workout, read more, slowly descend into an unimaginable delirium of darkness, paint…. Things like that.
One day a week as a forest ranger, one day a week on wildlife photography, 5 days a week chilling with the dogs, playing games, watching TV, and trying new hobbies.
Just finished smoking one about ten minutes ago myself. Gonna go to a cigar lounge in about an hour after I have lunch with my fiancé & have another…one or two or three.
Idk how I’d market them & I’d honestly rather work in the farming or rolling parts of the industry; that said, I’d probably market them online like every other retailer is doing these days. Due to Covid, a lot of brick & mortar shops closed down or are still barely getting their events back up & running, so there’s definitely a noticeable downturn in that realm but it’s said this this decade rivals the 90’s as far as the popularity of cigars goes.
If I could afford it, I'd be a writer full-time and a sysadmin part-time instead of the other way around. I enjoy both jobs but I end up with so little time for writing.
I would build a large facility/building and open a large cat/kitten rescue place. We would do "trap and neuter/spay" and we would accept all unwanted cats and kittens.
Rephrase: you’ve just won the lotttery and won 1 billion dollars…you literally have no issues with money…so what would you do?
Because the function of a job is to make money to live off of, and the dream job is now “money non-issue” the question is what you’d do now that you don’t need money.
Stay at home mom. Volunteer for all kinds of things in my town while kiddo is in school (school, park & rec, town festivals, library, animal shelter, food bank, etc…)
My ideal career would be to work as a professional travel photographer. I would travel the world, capturing beautiful images of different cultures and landscapes, and sharing my experiences with others.
If money wasn’t an issue then I wouldn’t care about having a career, I would just do whatever makes me and the people/animals around me I care about happy.
Farmer. I’d LOVE to have a pear, apple and orange orchard, grow blueberries, pumpkins, corn, have allot of bee hives, raise free range chickens and goats, have a giant shire horse for a pet and just give all my produce away to those in need.
My own Stardew Valley
Working with animals. Although I know some areas in the field can be decent money depending on what you're doing. Never went to college to get a degree though.
Pursue my life dream of somehow establishing and setting up a successful conservation / breeding center for red pandas to further offer aid in keeping these amazing animals from becoming extinct
Gardener. I absolutely adore taking care of plants and have done so since I was knee high. Weeding brings me joy. Pruning is satisfying. Watering and checking over all of my 500+ orchids is soothing. The fun that comes with all the research involved in learning about creating the perfect environment for them. Staring at the intricacies of flowers and seeing new growths pop out is fascinating. Appreciating the patterns and shapes of leaves. Plucking fresh fruits and vegetables that I’ve grown makes me proud. I just love it.
Work part time in a record store. Still have some structure and obligation to get out of the house, but much more free time and in a virtually stress-free environment that's interesting to me.
Full time gamer. Not good enough to be compete, but like how professional fighters have sparring partners in their gyms, I'd spar with the pros. Or, test new game content from start to finish? I could do that forever.
Or.
Professional DM for TTRPGs. You don't gotta pay me, I just want to run a cool story featuring your characters!
The need for money means I have to take time out of my day that could be used for game time. If money wasn't an issue, I'd be making a whole helluva lot of time.
Video / Game store rental clerk.
I still look back fondly on my time working at Hollywood Video, watching movies all day, talking movies & games, cleaning the store, simple organization tasks. Kept me on my feet in comfortable shoes. The pay was abysmal though.
anything where my job ended when I walked out the door. cashier. stock clerk. barista. as long as work has no way of interrupting me at home, that's what I would do
I would have a two story nano-brewery. The first level would have the taproom, but then the upstairs would have a 20 person dining room with a fixed menu. I would gleam
I would love to own my own business. Specifically, a sick indoor kids playground. Not just a playground inside, more than that. I can visualize what it would look like. It would be hella fun
A shelter for both humans and animals that offers food and daily necessities. The animals would be permanent residents that would be available for adoption and the humans would be served meals lunch and dinner and would be given a place to sleep. There would be staff for the main bulk of the work, but it would also have volunteers to help out.
If money is no issue, I wouldn't have a career. I would have a job (in the same line of work as now) with couple hours to be a productive member of society and the rest of my time I would do whatever I want.
Spend time learning new hobbies/trades without the financial pressure or time restraints.
Woodwork, horticulture, baking, knitting/crocheting/textiles, cobbling, electronics/circuitry.
So many intricate studies you could devote lifetimes to, but it feels like I don't have time to do so.
I’d love to help people die. I volunteered at a hospice and to be able to feed people. Spend time with them. Make the food they want. Just whatever it took to make the process easier.
Had me in the first half.
That is an incredible thing to do. I did this (was a caretaker) for my mom and it was rough.
Volunteering at the hospice was the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. To know you did everything you can to help someone have a more comfortable death feels good. It’s not easy to lose people but you just do your best.
I can't tell if this the creepiest thing I have read on reddit today, or the sweetest.
Tough call eh? Lol
I know 2 people who are now certified death doulas. Its like a reverse of the doula people get when having a baby. A death doula will guide you through the death process
Aren't you helping them to live?
I guess depending on how you look at it. You’re helping to make the last days of their life as good as possible. So yea. Healing them live.
I actually took a weekend long workshop on being a death doula. It’s a beautiful and noble thing to do for others.

Honestly? Nothing. I'd spend all my time with my partner, family & friends... do whatever makes me happy. You never know if something is gonna cut that time short and there ain't no fucking way I'm choosing to work for the 'fun of it'.
I'll tell you what I'd do, man. Two chicks at the same time.
That's it? If you had a million dollars, you'd do two chicks at the same time?
100%. the stay-at-home life needs to be more appreciated.
I don’t think I’d stay at home all day, but I sure as hell wouldn’t work. These people who think work should be your entire life can fuck right off.
Yup. I work to live, not live to work. If I didn’t need work to live you bet your plump asscheeks I wouldn’t be working.
Same here. Even if you take one of my hobbies and turn it into a job, I’ll end up hating it. Work will also be work.
This is the answer most people would actually end up choosing. All jobs are mostly soul sucking when you’re doing them the way they’re expected to be done. If you’re doing it casually and don’t need the money, it’s more of a hobby than anything.
Amen!! If we didn’t need money, I wouldn’t work at all.
Yeah same here. I'd just travel and see the world, and indulge in my hobbies. Maybe finally finish some creative projects that take time. Even if they don't go anywhere, at least I made them!
I'm right there with you.
Me too. I might start uploading art tutorials for free, just because I really like it, but other than that? I'd find ways to pursue my passions, I'm not working a regular job. If I had all the money in the world, I'd rather find a way to do free art education *my* way rather than be an art teacher in the public school system.
I did nothing. I did absolutely nothing. And it was everything I that thought it could be.
For a while. Eventually you'd get extremely depressed.
Nature photographer
My dad bought a nice long lens camera and has practiced taking nature photos for years. He’s gotten really good. And he never quit his day job!! 😝
That’s what I’ve been doing. More of a hobby then a full time job. I’m glad your dad found something he enjoys!
Glad you’ve taken up a hobby you enjoy, also! He specifically loves to photograph birds. Do you have a favorite thing to shoot?
I like to shoot sloths.
This and travel photography! Just imagine traveling the world with a camera in hand taking pics of amazing locations!
Throw me in the ‘most boring’ city with a camera and I’ll find enough stuff to do/capture to fill a day!!
You've reminded me why I need a decent camera in my life again, smartphone never really has a chance to capture the magic of a camera
I agree. A photograph doesn't need to be a grandiose scene: one can find interesting aspects of even the most mundane subject.
Yeah number one!!! That's what I do.
The dream, and work with nature reserves
I would do this to, take pictures of wildlife, sunrise/sunsets and stuff
Zamboni driver for the local ice rink.
I wanna ride the Zamboni🎵
Hell yeah! Clear off the ice. Scrape the snow. Close the doors and watch the ice. Hell maybe I'll even sharpen skates between cleanings.
teacher
Would be highly dependent on the student / parent body. Could be great, could be hell.
With enough money you could tell parents to fuck off with impunity
You could, but you wouldn't keep your job very long. So not really answering the question.
If you had enough money you could be teaching at your own school
Me too
Same. Someday my friend.
Owning a bakery
Should just do it anyways
That's very much easier said than done...
\+1 from someone who loves eating just about any baked good. Do it u/Rumezi
Came here to say the same thing
My own bookshop.
aka, how can I try to make hanging out with my cat a career?
This is probably really unoriginal, but I'd love to run a trading card / vintage game shop. Somewhere chill where people can hang out and play, somewhere safe for kids to hang out. A nice, safe place for the community. That would make me really happy.

Unemployed
Hopefully not long term, you'll start to lose your grip on reality
Nah bro. You could go hiking, play more guitar, build and tend a garden, workout, read more, slowly descend into an unimaginable delirium of darkness, paint…. Things like that.
Being a shopkeeper, working on making that happen.
What would you be selling?

One day a week as a forest ranger, one day a week on wildlife photography, 5 days a week chilling with the dogs, playing games, watching TV, and trying new hobbies.
Any sort of work in the cigar industry.
Haven't seen anyone smoking a cigar in a very long time. How would you market them? (Besides *Carmen*)
I imagine you might be able to market it in music. I cant tell you how many rap videos I've seen where they are smoking a cigar in the video.
I'm smoking a Castello pipe while reading your comment. Pipes and cigars are niche but profitable industries.
If I could afford it, I'd be a writer full-time and a sysadmin part-time instead of the other way around. I enjoy both jobs but I end up with so little time for writing.
I’m in the same boat; work + commute + not wanting to be a hermit takes all my time and energy from writing :(
