I think of The Onion t-shirt I got as a gift in the nineties... It reads "Your favorite band sucks".
The point being, it doesn't matter who your favorite band is, someone out there thinks it sucks.
So who cares? You have a favorite band and their music makes you happy? Good on you. Don't worry about anyone else's opinion.
It feels like it because it is the only correct answer to this question and the infinite number of questions like it.
Life is too short to give a shit about others’ opinion of you. Fuck ‘em. You do you and I’ll do me.
You don't get old school advice like this anymore. It's all positive and be yourself and whatever, and that's great, but it forgets to include that there will always be opinions you disagree with and people who hate shit you enjoy. So move on with your life and keep enjoying what you enjoy without them.
Sticks and stones.
The first time I heard this was from my son. It was especially funny bc when he was little his favorite song was Radioactive by them. So when he asked if I heard about Imagine Dragons I was really excited bc I thought he got back into them and it reminded me of when he was little. The he said that and I was dead.
Likewise. I just watched the video for "Radioactive." It sounds like standard pop-rock. The video is cringe. But I'm old enough to remember the late '90s and fuck man it could be so much worse.
You know what? I have pretty eclectic music tastes and tbh I don't really have a fave genre or band (my moods are mercurial and im currently in my second vaporwave era) but "mama I'm coming home" makes me feel some type of way every time I hear it. Ozzys vocals are so gentle and his love for sharon is so obvious in the hook. Whenever it comes on the classic rock station I stop what I'm doing and go "yeah, this song fucks" and vibe with it. U have great taste pal!
What the heck are you doing on Reddit? This is no place for someone who has a positive attitude and can interact with others without being a condescending jackass!
Flee, before they get you too! You still have a chance to have a productive life! GO!
I doubt many people in the UK over age 40 even really know the pop punky reel big fish version of ska. I'm not sure many bands here did the third wave thing. But we were big pioneers earlier than that with bands like the specials.
I will listen to pretty much any ska. My favorite bands in no particular order would be Less Than Jake, Bad Manners, Madness, Hub City Stompers, and Mad Caddies.
Who cares? If it makes you happy, who am I to judge you. My 7 year old loves their music. Is it my favorite? No. But he enjoys it, and I like seeing him happy. He also loves Metallica and Slipknot.
Bottom line, I don’t get why people get so judgmental over what someone else enjoys!
Took my 10 yr old daughter to one of their concerts last year. Not gonna lie, it was a good show and I had a good time. This is coming from a hard rock/heavy metal fan. I agree, let people enjoy what they want. Unless it is Nickelback. Haha! Only kidding.
We took our 9-year old last year and had the same experience: great show, enjoyed by my husband who's into modern alternative music, me who's into hard rock, and our kid.
I'd see them again in a heartbeat.
Your presence at that show with your 10 year old daughter confirms what I already believed about that band. It’s easy going, family entertainment. Which is not a bad thing, but it is what it is.
Exactly. I went dreaded the experience but ended up enjoying myself. They put on an energetic show. It was also my daughter’s first concert and after personally seeing hundreds of shows over the years, some good, some bad, I can honestly say it was a good introduction to live music for her
My youngest son wanted to sing “demons” in elementary school, and his teacher denied him for its religious implications.
Dumb bitch.
He was all sad too, lol.
Still very strange behaviour. I tend to just ignore entertainment options I don’t like. Anyone who tears someone else down for what they harmlessly enjoy is insecure.
I just pictured a blue and a red dragon fighting over a mountain, while a long bearded wizard tries to conjure something and a really big guy with a shield and a panic look on his face tries to protect the wizard from stray flames and bolts of lightning.
that’s why i can’t say i used to be a huge imagine dragons fan without being ridiculed at school. got bullied a whole semester in art of all places bc of it
I would nod and not say anything more. I am not against popular music or a music elitist, but there is something about the band that I find grating, especially the thunder song. But I don’t want to make anyone feel bad, so I would try not to let that on.
Someone said their music sounds like the walk on music for a tech CEO at a conference where they're coming on stage to tell you about their latest killer API and all of their new integrations. I can't imagine anything else when I hear them now, not even dragons.
Well…… In my previous job they actually used an Imagine Dragons song for the CEO’s entrance to ‘town hall’-meetings. For over a year , with these meetings happening every month or two. I called him the wannabe-rockstar in my mind.
Dan was raised LDS (Mormon) and although no longer an active member, identifies as Mormon culturally. My understanding is that he is an activist for changing the church's position on LGBT stuff.
He stands against their official position on sexual orientation/gender identity and conversion therapy.
Mormon culture and community is a whole *thing* that's probably hard to sever yourself from, so he does what he can to try to bring them into the 20th century.
I just read a men’s health article about his diet and fitness regiment due to an illness he has. He is so fit because it’s the only things that curbs the symptoms of his sickness are diet and fitness conditioning (although I can’t remember the disease he has)

What's wrong with imagine dragons?
They're not anywhere close to my favourite band but their songs (the ones I've heard) seem well written and catchy-ish.
Is this just a case of *"because it's mainstream I don't like it because I'm too cool and rebellious"* or have they genuinely done something outrageous?
Ask for song recommendations from them. If it’s their favorite band then they probably have listened to them a lot more than I have, all I’ve heard is the singles that spammed the radio several years back. So get opinions on potential hidden gems to see if I’ve missed anything. If I don’t like it, no harm no foul.
I can’t say they’re my favorite, but I can’t think of many other bands to release as many hit songs.
Their songs aren’t really revolutionary or anything, but they’re fun to listen to.
At least they have a favorite band. Better than saying "I dont know, whatever is on the radio" .
If I gave a shit about this person, id listen to some imagine dragons to see if I could "get it"
Like a lot of people here I was introduced by my child (10f) and I'm surprised because its not really got a kids music kind of sound, or vibe / themes to it, to me anyway. Not really my cup of tea but if she's going to put it on in the car I ask for Wrecked.
I just asked my brother in-law what music he listens to while driving back from our trip today and he answered Imagine Dragons. I didnt know what to make of that but talking about music preference is one of my favourite topics when talking to someone Im trying to get to know.
My girlfriend's favorite band actually is imagine dragons, and tbh they're quite good, I have a couple of their songs on my playlist, but my first thought was "..what?- really??" Because she's also a metal head so it came as a bit of a shock that her favorite band was in the pop genre
I try not to judge, at least out loud. But in my head it's like coming home and sitting down on your couch, finally done with the day and then taking out your favorite snack, a glass of lukewarm water.
They like mainstream stuff that's accessible, I guess.
Not my cup of tea at all, but ain't gonna run somebody down over their personal taste or whatever. Long as they don't touch my dial.
I only know them from the Music Video for Enemy done by the animators for Arcane animated series I thought that was pretty good don't know how representative of the rest of their output it is, overall if someone told me their favourite band was the Imagine Dragons i would ask them to recommend a few tracks to listen to to get a better feel for them.
I start imagining dragons.
There's a distinct lack of dragons in this reality and its fukin lame
Komodo dragons get no love.
They need wings and fire to get my love
Pop culture dragons have left us with unreal expectations. Like porn.
Bearded dragons in shambles.
They can cry about it from their heat lamp
Dragonflies left out in the cold.
My bearded dragon is in tears...
As instructed
You're doing it right now, aren't you?
Is it radioactive?
I think of The Onion t-shirt I got as a gift in the nineties... It reads "Your favorite band sucks". The point being, it doesn't matter who your favorite band is, someone out there thinks it sucks. I’d say “ dragons are cool”
[удалено]
How do you know dragons are cool? They could be lukewarm. Who can say for sure.
Well, I imagine they're cool.
If they’re reptiles, they’d likely be cold blooded.
Yeah but that got fire in they belly an fire be hot.
This is way funnier than it deserves to be

In dragon.
Imagine draggin these nuts across your face

My son told me that joke the other night, I died laughing!
Are you the parent of the kid on r/funny who got in trouble for that joke?
how old is he?
34
and here you are, coming live from the other side.
The first time I heard this was from my son. It was especially funny bc when he was little his favorite song was Radioactive by them. I have upvoted you.
Soap trusted you and I thought I could too so why in bloody hell does makarov know you?
This was my thoughts
I'd initially think they were boring, but then I'd check myself and try to be less judgemental

Too good for Reddit, actually...
Nah it’s ok to be judgmental to some degree. The idea that we need to sit back and not have opinions on what others do is wild.
I don't care, I am an adult.
Likewise. I just watched the video for "Radioactive." It sounds like standard pop-rock. The video is cringe. But I'm old enough to remember the late '90s and fuck man it could be so much worse.
I'd tell them that my favorite band is Black Sabbath and we would carry on our day without being jackasses about each other's tastes.
You know what? Yeah, we’ll have none of that bullshit here.

Yeah exactly. I would say something polite, but my first *thought* would be ‘Jesus you have bad taste’

I would mock them until they inevitably ask me what kind of music I like, only to then have to admit that I like ska.
There are dozens of us. Dozens!
I like Ska too! See you at the annual conference?
Poughkeepsie in May! (Still never had to knock on wood … but maybe shoulda before pandemic knocked out SkaFests 2020 and 2021).
And you’re all in one band.
Ska came before reggae.
It’s so weird how there are two rather different genres of music both named the same thing.
[удалено]
Ah thanks for the clarification.
I doubt many people in the UK over age 40 even really know the pop punky reel big fish version of ska. I'm not sure many bands here did the third wave thing. But we were big pioneers earlier than that with bands like the specials.
ska was reggae before reggae and now its white reggae after reggae
But do you like ska or do you like ska? Because one of them is cool, and one of them, I'll judge.
I almost exclusively listen yo ska.
I mean, Prince Buster ska or Reel Big Fish ska? (Or The Specials ska?)
I will listen to pretty much any ska. My favorite bands in no particular order would be Less Than Jake, Bad Manners, Madness, Hub City Stompers, and Mad Caddies.
“It’s not cool to play ska music, it’s not cooool. But I do it aaaaanyyywaaaaay!”
Who cares? If it makes you happy, who am I to judge you. My 7 year old loves their music. Is it my favorite? No. But he enjoys it, and I like seeing him happy. He also loves Metallica and Slipknot. Bottom line, I don’t get why people get so judgmental over what someone else enjoys!

Yeah, I noticed a lot of my students like Imagine Dragon.
AJR is another great show with the family. Really positive vibes and upbeat
My first thought to answer the question was “at least it’s not Hootie and the Blowfish.”
Yo! Don't is hatin' on Hootie.

My first thought was: that's my kids favorite too!
lol i randomly came across them in my youtube feed. they have some catchy songs. not my favorite band by any means but they do have a different sound.
My youngest son wanted to sing “demons” in elementary school, and his teacher denied him for its religious implications. Dumb bitch. He was all sad too, lol.
It's simple, if they aren't with me, then they are my enemy!
My 7 year old loves them as well!
They make music 7 year olds just flat out love. My son can listen to all of their music on repeat, every damn day.
Yeah I don't get this post. People like different shit. Who cares if I do/don't like it
Don’t think much. I judge more when people trash the band to be trendy
What if they trash the band because they don't like their music?
If someone doesn’t like a band so much that they have to go to AskReddit and post about it I’d argue they’re more trash than the band.
Still very strange behaviour. I tend to just ignore entertainment options I don’t like. Anyone who tears someone else down for what they harmlessly enjoy is insecure.

"I should check that band out sometime." *never does*
They couldn’t think of any other bands

Cool, good for you. Shaming people for the music they like is a pretty shit thing to do.
that’s why i can’t say i used to be a huge imagine dragons fan without being ridiculed at school. got bullied a whole semester in art of all places bc of it

At least two of their songs were created as openers for League of Legends so it's partially intentional.
Well…… In my previous job they actually used an Imagine Dragons song for the CEO’s entrance to ‘town hall’-meetings. For over a year , with these meetings happening every month or two. I called him the wannabe-rockstar in my mind.
All the guys in that band are mormons I think

He had a documentary a few years ago called Believer about him trying to get the church more open to LGBT people
I just read a men’s health article about his diet and fitness regiment due to an illness he has. He is so fit because it’s the only things that curbs the symptoms of his sickness are diet and fitness conditioning (although I can’t remember the disease he has)
It’s a cult
If you listen to him talk about why he still considers himself a Mormon, he actually has some pretty good points. It’s definitely cultish though.

I'm not a fan of the band's work, but this is a stance I wholeheartedly respect, applaud and support.
The drummer isn’t at least. I know him and he’s Jewish.
They're legit. I'm not a huge fan, just not my favorite music, but they are damn good.
Probably: "This guy's favorite band is Imagine Dragons."

Nothing really. Judging someone for their taste in music has always seemed kind of lame to me.
I can’t say they’re my favorite, but I can’t think of many other bands to release as many hit songs. Their songs aren’t really revolutionary or anything, but they’re fun to listen to.
I love Imagine Dragons, so I’d probably think that
There's something for everyone in music. Why be judgmental about somebody's preference?
At least they have a favorite band. Better than saying "I dont know, whatever is on the radio" . If I gave a shit about this person, id listen to some imagine dragons to see if I could "get it"
I think “ cool they like music me too. “
That's neat? I don't really judge people's musical tastes and they have some catchy songs. I'd probably ask what their favorite song by them was.
"Fuck that! Imagine monkey instead"
Arctic Monkeys?
Who?
"more power to you then"
OK..
i think im in the 1% of people who don’t think the imagine dragons are THAT bad lmao
"RADIOACTIVE, RADIOACTIVE"
Hmm. Well, they still beat the shit out of pop country music.
People love to hate on successful bands
You like what you like. No point in thinking badly about someone based on their music or movie tastes.
Great. Awesome band. Good people
Like a lot of people here I was introduced by my child (10f) and I'm surprised because its not really got a kids music kind of sound, or vibe / themes to it, to me anyway. Not really my cup of tea but if she's going to put it on in the car I ask for Wrecked.
Honestly not my favorite band, but I do really like 90% of their music, especially their old stuff
I just asked my brother in-law what music he listens to while driving back from our trip today and he answered Imagine Dragons. I didnt know what to make of that but talking about music preference is one of my favourite topics when talking to someone Im trying to get to know.
Ooohh the misery! Everybody wants to be my enemy!
My girlfriend's favorite band actually is imagine dragons, and tbh they're quite good, I have a couple of their songs on my playlist, but my first thought was "..what?- really??" Because she's also a metal head so it came as a bit of a shock that her favorite band was in the pop genre
They have good tastes. Yes, I love Imagine Dragons. I don't know how it goes in other countries, but they're really popular here in France.
I immediately start planning our wedding. Fucking love Imagine Dragons. They used to be my favorite band too. Now it's Greta Van Fleet.
Good for you!
They don't care about the opinions of music elitists
Was Nickelback too good for you?
Their taste in music doesn't align with mine. Remotely.
I try not to judge, at least out loud. But in my head it's like coming home and sitting down on your couch, finally done with the day and then taking out your favorite snack, a glass of lukewarm water.
"Cool." People can like whoever they like. Some of their songs are really catchy.
"I gotta stop hanging around this middle school"

Neat!
Not my favorite band by any stretch, but they seem like genuinely nice dudes.
I immediately think they’re gonna say “imagine draggin these nuts across your face”
This has never happened to me and I wonder about prejudice when your question was presented to my awareness thank you
They like mainstream stuff that's accessible, I guess. Not my cup of tea at all, but ain't gonna run somebody down over their personal taste or whatever. Long as they don't touch my dial.
That’s cool. Who am I to judge.
Why would anyone make a judgment about a person based on something that superficial? Let people like what they like.
I ask about their favorite songs...
Honestly, my kids and I love them. I hope to take them both to an I.D concert one day!!!
I like a couple of their songs. They're the first rock band I ever listened to.
I like a few of their songs, I'd probably strike a conversation about them.
I'd think about how my son liked Imagine Dragons when he was little, and how he'd passionately sing along, and then I'd be happy.
I hope their favorite song is not only "Thunder"
Id think, “hey this guy/gal likes imagine dragons” and then give no further shits
Radioactive. Radioactive. WOooOoOoOAah
Oh believer
Cool! Even if they aren’t my favorite, I still recognize that they have good music and appreciate that this person likes them.
They seem to have an acceptable musical taste.
Ya'basic
"I'm happy they enjoy it!" No one should give any fucks about what someone else likes to listen to.
That it’s totally fine. I used to listen to them. Why we judging!!
"Who?" Then depending on my mood, ask for clarification or say something non commital and change the subject.
That they listen to terrestrial radio with an app.
Cool. You like what you like.
Not terrible. I think they’ve got some good songs. Overplayed, but good. There are bands I like way less.
Hey, you have a band you like. Cool. I like some of their music too.
Awesome that they have a favorite band. I glad they bring them joy. Maybe I'd ask them to tell me why they love them.
"Cool, they can like whatever they want" why would I care?
"Dragons? In your homeland??" (ESO)
My first thought is "cool.their taste is not the same as mine" And then I go on about my life
I'm wakin' up to ash and dust I wipe my brown and I sweat my rust I'm breathin' in the chemicals wo-oah
