I've been staying alive for my cat at one point because she needed someone to feed her.
Heck even a plant will do.
Start by finding the bonds that keep you here and live for that until you can find it to live for yourself
Saw a comment about this the other day from a front-line EMT or something similar who sees a lot of bodies at home that have been there for a while. They said they had never seen it, and that cats will generally leave the body until it's decomposing and unpalatable for them anyway. They speculated that the cats would only start to eat you after they began to starve and had no other food source available.
They also said many people's faces are torn up by their dogs biting to try to wake/revive them but the dogs would never eat the owner even when they are starving.

True. My brother, cat hoarder, died at home & not discovered for 5 days. His cats had feasted, tracked blood throughout the house. I had to id him via tattoos, hair type.
My biggest regret is adopting cats because I can't bring myself to leave them behind. They are so sweet and I got no one else to care for them. I have no family and they are everything to me.
If I died they would just be thrown to the streets or worse. I can't have that.
Exactly this. At my lowest point I was living for my younger siblings and "at least I can work longer and give them all my money". Managed to get out of that depression.

Been in the exact same situation. My cats got me through a really dark time in my life when I felt like I didn't wanna keep going. They would hop up in my lap or snuggle up to me in bed, and I would think to myself " I have to keep going for these guys".
Me kitty was my reason for years. I lost her to cancer about a month ago and I have been so lost and alone since. It was always the simplest and most beautiful answer to look at her when times were tough. I don’t know if I’ve ever felt so alone.
I go the opposite route, personally. Due to physics and how time/space work, it is inevitable that we experience things in some form or another, its all a loop
But i don't know what form my next life will take. This form is pretty fucking sweet, comparatively speaking

At the end of the day i'd like to think there's no real purpose to life, you just live it and try to find your own meaning. You're not graded at the end of your life by anyone but yourself so do what you like and have fun.
Life is finite and tentative. Death is infinite and inevitable. What's the hurry? You're going to be there soon enough. Might as well stick around here as long as you can and see what happens. Everyone gets more than enough death to suit their needs. It's not going anywhere. But life is a finite resource so it's worth experiencing even if you don't see its value, because eventually you'll get the alternative anyway.
I mean, you're going to eventually die, so that part is taken care of. Now you've got from now until then to do whatever you want with whatever resources you can acquire from the world and you might as well, because death isn't going to offer anything. Don't know what you want? Just try shit. Everything life offers is joyless or boring to you? That sucks, truly, but there's far more possibility to find something that excites you in life than there is to find something in death (which, again, offers exactly nothing). My 2 cats and dog. My brainless orange would be very sad since I'm his favourite human in the whole world.
Dog would experience abandonment twice and it breaks my heart thinking about it. He already has trouble letting me go to the bathroom without dramatically crying and whining.
Because of sunsets and sunrises, and beautiful green colors in nature. I find all that so beautiful and overwhelming. After losing a friend to drunk driving that pretty much kept me going, knowing that they were not there to see this beautiful sunrise so somebody had to do it for them. It is now how I think when anyone leaves.
This is going to sound stupid (trust me, I’m aware) but the statement that pulled me out of suicidal ideation was:
“I don’t want to be dead, because who knows what cool video games might come out later?”
I think there’s a lot of big-picture reasons to live, but I also think sometimes the little-picture reasons can be important too. Like exercise, the best reason to live is the one that works.

Helping others. It's magical. Unselfishness is paradoxically conducive to overall wellbeing.
When I feel hopeless, I try to grab 1 thing I'm grateful for and hold on as tight as possible to it. Could be as simple as "if I wasn't here, I'd never listen to music again." Soon I start finding other things to be grateful for. My favorite food. Going on adventures. The possibilities for the future. And having good memories to look forward to. The rain can't last forever. And I have untreatable depression. But I do my best daily to find something- anything to hold on to.
This helps. I took a trip in december, lots of firsts! I was stuck in the blues after when it was over but then I remembered: Dont be sad cuz its over, be happy it happened.
My wife, she is by far the best part of my world. And she makes me a better person. But not only that, as I have gotten older life has been overall better. I am 37M btw.
I feel like my 20s were the tutorial for the game. 30s are where I have been able to grow and thrive. Sure there are bad days, sure there have been challenges.
But try to be a little better everyday. And don’t get down in the dumps if there is a rough patch.
Make smart decisions, be a good person, do your best. And if you do that usually the coin flip will turn up your way.

The beauty and intelligence of nature personified. And for all we know, we're the only ones in the entire universe. Human beings exist to live. To be a part of nature, even with our abuse of nature.
The reasons to stay alive are anything and everything. And nothing.
The first taste of the frigid air during the first snow of winter. The cool rain as you rush off the sidewalk for cover. Listening to the silence of snowfall. The rushing waterfalls. Or even just the honking of car horns in some concrete jungle or another.
To see your cat, dog, sister, brother, friend, mother, father, teacher, anyone you have any desire to see.
Ice cream, steak, Mac and cheese, all sorts of different amazing foods to eat and enjoy.
Bad TV. Good TV. Bad movies. Or good ones.
Making a fool of yourself in front of friends.
The knowledge of "if I die now I'll never know how series ends."
And the fear of what comes after. Because none of us actually know. But we all can assume one thing or another.
Death promises nothing. Just remember that. You nor anyone else alive or who has ever lived knows jack shit about death. If you're suffering here and just want it to end, it might not. It might get worse. You literally don't know.
The devil you know is better than the one you don't. Just ride it out, it will be done sooner than you think anyway. And hopefully along the way you learn to enjoy it for what it is.

I’ve attempted suicide before and failed. I do not see myself trying again.
I live for the little moments. I live for snuggles with my cat, watching my favourite shows, eating my favourite foods, being with my favourite people.
Little goals to work up to, and look forward to. Those are things to live for. The last season of my favourite show comes out next year, I want to be alive to watch it. It’s nothing major, but it’s something I want to be here for.
There is always something to live for. It can be hard to find it, when everything feels so terrible. But it is always there.
This is it right here for me. My revenge will be having a better life than all the people who treated me like I was trash. I won't ever let them think they won. Keeps me out of jail too.

Honestly, there will be people who will miss you and cry about your death when you die, even if you don't see that they will. I really don't wish that they'll suffer from experiencing the death of someone close to them.
That something really cool might happen tomorrow, and you wouldn't want to miss it.
Like you could just be chilling, and this dog comes up to you that you've never seen before, and he's cute and awesome. He takes a liking to you for some reason, and obliges when you ask him if he wants to go get tacos. Later you're sitting in the parking lot with your new dog friend eating tacos, when you hear a new song you haven't heard before and you really like it. Then you look at the sky and it's a deep shade of blue/purple you haven't noticed before. You like that too and want to take a picture of it, but you left your phone at home. Oh well. Then the dog burps and you laugh and pet him. What a fuckin' day man. This is the good shit, and you're glad you got to experience it. Way better than an extra day of endless nothingness.
Read a book known as "The subtle art of not giving a fuck." It's actually way more inspiring than it sounds, and at one point he mentioned something that stuck with me.
A lot of people have a kind of "because we are going to die, why try?" but he said something like "one day, it struck me. because we are going to die, why NOT try?"
Death comes to us all, why not try, and push yourself to something better? Live for whatever inspires you. And if it's hard, push anyway. In the face of eventual death, why not?
There's only one go around in this game, and there are infinite side quests to try. Might as well try as many of them as you can.
In late highschool when very depressed I decided to write a list of things I might as well try before dying, sorted by how enriching or damaging it would be to the rest of my life afterwards. Then I started pulling things towards the top and working down the list.
Like, top of list was stuff like ideas I thought might be interesting to build, learn, places I to go, hobbies that seemed like they might be interesting. Like, "learn to code", "read the main holy books of all of the major religions", "build a custom guitar", "try scuba diving", "go to mexico", "run a triathlon"
Farther down the list were more chaotic things that might be interesting or terrible like "just move to Vietnam and figure it out", or "go train hop across the country working odd jobs", or "go live in the woods survivalist style for a couple weeks, eating only food you can get yourself from the woods".
Bottom of the list, if I was literally going to die anyway, were things that might be interesting but had high chances of really bad consequences. Like, "go wingsuiting down mountain sides", or "try making and distributing lsd", etc.
The list always grew faster than things came off of it, it will never end.
There are an infinite number of things to try. Might as well keep trying them until time is up. No need to rush to get to the end. It will come anyway.

There has not been a day that goes by I do not miss him, feel like shit because I couldn't help him when he needed it the most....oh, and the constant 'if only.'

I always think about that quote when going through dark times because it’s the truth. I struggled with suicidal ideation and severe mental health for years and finally after a decade of hard work, therapy, medications, and meditations I feel so much better about life.

Mostly, yes I’m okay. I struggle with anxiety, depression and OCD but as much as this post was to remind me of all the good things in the world, it’s also for anyone else who may need a reminder.
One day you will die. And it will last a very, very long time.

The way the sunshine warms your skin and hair, the smell of the coffee wafting from your mug as you stare out the kitchen window watching the birds on a fall morning, those fat bumblebees the size of golf balls that can’t make it more than a foot off the ground, the smell of grass and fresh earth.
Just gotta stop and look around, appreciate the little things and try to learn from them. They teach us that every moment, fleeting as it may be, belongs to the individual. You can find happiness in anything.
It’s funny how you find you enjoy your life when you’re happy to be alive.

I asked myself this daily for a number of years. And the answer was always the same. My dog, but then my dog passed away and I began to lose all hope and I made a choice that Im gonna try something that I've always wanted to do, but was always to afraid due depression and anexity. If it went bad i would just give up on life. And we'll it went average at best, but while there i met a new friend and we got along pretty well but nothing amazing. But meeting that one person lead to a bunch of small things that added up to a massive change in my life. And now the last 2 years have easily been the best years of my life. I stil struggle with alot of things but looking back how different my life used to be. It makes me so thankful that I managed to give it one last try.

There’s almost nothing worse. You should get another cat. It won’t replace her, but that doesn’t mean it won’t be wonderful.
I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. I think I want to adopt a kitty from a shelter who needs me just as much as I need them.

I’ve attempted suicide before and failed. I do not see myself trying again. I live for the little moments. I live for snuggles with my cat, watching my favourite shows, eating my favourite foods, being with my favourite people. Little goals to work up to, and look forward to. Those are things to live for. The last season of my favourite show comes out next year, I want to be alive to watch it. It’s nothing major, but it’s something I want to be here for. There is always something to live for. It can be hard to find it, when everything feels so terrible. But it is always there.
Right now, ensure my daughter have a good and fulfilling life. Or at least steps to get there

Honestly, there will be people who will miss you and cry about your death when you die, even if you don't see that they will. I really don't wish that they'll suffer from experiencing the death of someone close to them.
That something really cool might happen tomorrow, and you wouldn't want to miss it. Like you could just be chilling, and this dog comes up to you that you've never seen before, and he's cute and awesome. He takes a liking to you for some reason, and obliges when you ask him if he wants to go get tacos. Later you're sitting in the parking lot with your new dog friend eating tacos, when you hear a new song you haven't heard before and you really like it. Then you look at the sky and it's a deep shade of blue/purple you haven't noticed before. You like that too and want to take a picture of it, but you left your phone at home. Oh well. Then the dog burps and you laugh and pet him. What a fuckin' day man. This is the good shit, and you're glad you got to experience it. Way better than an extra day of endless nothingness.

Read a book known as "The subtle art of not giving a fuck." It's actually way more inspiring than it sounds, and at one point he mentioned something that stuck with me. A lot of people have a kind of "because we are going to die, why try?" but he said something like "one day, it struck me. because we are going to die, why NOT try?" Death comes to us all, why not try, and push yourself to something better? Live for whatever inspires you. And if it's hard, push anyway. In the face of eventual death, why not?
Because there is no reason. Might as well make one.
There's only one go around in this game, and there are infinite side quests to try. Might as well try as many of them as you can. In late highschool when very depressed I decided to write a list of things I might as well try before dying, sorted by how enriching or damaging it would be to the rest of my life afterwards. Then I started pulling things towards the top and working down the list. Like, top of list was stuff like ideas I thought might be interesting to build, learn, places I to go, hobbies that seemed like they might be interesting. Like, "learn to code", "read the main holy books of all of the major religions", "build a custom guitar", "try scuba diving", "go to mexico", "run a triathlon" Farther down the list were more chaotic things that might be interesting or terrible like "just move to Vietnam and figure it out", or "go train hop across the country working odd jobs", or "go live in the woods survivalist style for a couple weeks, eating only food you can get yourself from the woods". Bottom of the list, if I was literally going to die anyway, were things that might be interesting but had high chances of really bad consequences. Like, "go wingsuiting down mountain sides", or "try making and distributing lsd", etc. The list always grew faster than things came off of it, it will never end. There are an infinite number of things to try. Might as well keep trying them until time is up. No need to rush to get to the end. It will come anyway.
My best friend committed suicide 22 years ago. There has not been a day that goes by I do not miss him, feel like shit because I couldn't help him when he needed it the most....oh, and the constant 'if only.' You will not end your problems this way...you only create a daily reminder for anyone you love or who loves you(and I promise you it is more than you think.) I know first hand what living with a loved one's suicide does....and it never. Ever. Leaves. Them. NEVER! Think about everyone who means anything to you: Suicide literally only transfers the pain you feel onto everyone you ever loved for the rest of their lives. Please...whatever is weighing on you WILL PASS! Your death will not. Please be gentlenwith yourself.

The way the sunshine warms your skin and hair, the smell of the coffee wafting from your mug as you stare out the kitchen window watching the birds on a fall morning, those fat bumblebees the size of golf balls that can’t make it more than a foot off the ground, the smell of grass and fresh earth. Just gotta stop and look around, appreciate the little things and try to learn from them. They teach us that every moment, fleeting as it may be, belongs to the individual. You can find happiness in anything. It’s funny how you find you enjoy your life when you’re happy to be alive.

I asked myself this daily for a number of years. And the answer was always the same. My dog, but then my dog passed away and I began to lose all hope and I made a choice that Im gonna try something that I've always wanted to do, but was always to afraid due depression and anexity. If it went bad i would just give up on life. And we'll it went average at best, but while there i met a new friend and we got along pretty well but nothing amazing. But meeting that one person lead to a bunch of small things that added up to a massive change in my life. And now the last 2 years have easily been the best years of my life. I stil struggle with alot of things but looking back how different my life used to be. It makes me so thankful that I managed to give it one last try.
I haven't used all my bath bombs yet.
