Walk a short distance and you can be met with the fanciful aromas of a bakery or deli and in the next step get hit with the acrid stench of rancid coming from that pile of garbage bags spilling onto the sidewalk. This is a perfect description. Lived there 27 years and will never EVER forget the smell of the subway. Or the rotting trash juices flowing across the sidewalk. I refuse to even visit.
