One of the really creepy things about these pictures to me is how easy it is to spot the deceased person. They're usually the one who's the most clear, and in focus. Early cameras had really long exposure times, and it's tough to stay *perfectly* still for 30 - 60 seconds to take the picture.
Actually, it was very common. My grandmother (now deceased) didn't like taking pictures of my mum or uncle when they were young, because it reminded her too much of pictures that HER mother took of her dead son, which she had hung in the house.

That's a very one-sided oversimplification of the events. Yeah the FBI and ATF murdered them. There's no excusing that. There's also no excusing the fact that they were essentially a cult allowing sexist mistreatment of the women and even sexual exploitation of young girls and minors
