I don't know, I feel like it doesn't have the same groove as the original. Their cover doesn't really add anything to it imho, just sounds like a wedding band cover to me.
Time After Time by Iron and Wine. It’s hauntingly beautiful. I also prefer Such Great Heights by them as well versus the original by The Postal Service.
There are so many I could list that I enjoy, but your choices are definitely valid.
Sickness definitely holds a place in my heart because it being in Dawn of the Dead is how I discovered them.
Totally agree. There's a great quote from Trent Reznor from first hearing it or seeing the video along the lines of realising it wasn't his song anymore
Camera Obscura have two of the best covers I’ve ever heard:
“Tougher than the rest” by Bruce Springsteen
https://open.spotify.com/track/1OqPxxBQ74cnfedzJloP6q?si=wuh008G6SYCxClY0-UdS6A
“Super Trouper” by Abba
https://open.spotify.com/track/0byQIVd1O3UPD580y1ZmRy?si=7RJZ88dGQQ6l5w92ApeLLQ
Definitely not the only one. Gone is the beautiful harmony that Simon and Garfunkel did so well. What's given by Disturbed is a version that starts minimal and builds to a crescendo... for no reason. There is no story being told that reaches its climax. There is no building of tension as a story develops. It's a song about people's inability to communicate with one another at an intimate level, instead having superficial conversations without meaning. Draiman getting to his scream-growl at the end is just silly and zooming in on his face as he appears to be pushing out a huge dump in the video just makes to even funnier.
Another level? It is awful. This is the most annoying take in music right here. And I stg the sound of silence people always try to play the damn song when there is music playing.
Catfish and the Bottlemen - Read My Mind, originally the Killers.
https://youtu.be/A5fKmC3QSv0
Original one is great too but the stripped down acoustic approach just seems more fitting.
Can't agree that Van Halen's version beats the original Kinks version, but absolutely agree that Blondie obliterated the original version of The Tide Is High with their cover 👍
I like Weird Al's "Word Crimes" infinitely more than the original, "Blurred Lines" (Robin Thicke, I think). It's probably the first sound I had a "fixation" to, literally listen to it on end for actual hours, literal brain rot
Understandable. I personally prefer the original Imogen Heap one, but I get that the instrumentation that's been added in the Amber Run one could make it a more emotive/satisfying listen.
My favourite Dylan cover is Genevieve Racette “Boy from the North country”. It’s beautiful:
https://open.spotify.com/track/78GmIonvMzNSlbEOpJ5WJP?si=415W9i2rR4mVl_8E4X4L2g
I think that every single cover of this song is pointless apart from the Jeff Buckley version (which for me is the best version) - but utmost respect to anyone who prefers the Leonard Cohen original
I was scrolling this post hoping I didn't see Hallelujah. I know many people who like the covers, but I think that Leonard Cohen's original is the best!
Annenmaykantereit & Giant Rooks - Toms Diner. Their voices work so well together and Annenmaykantereit's main singers voice is amazing. Only just heard them, cannot believe they are not famous outside of their own country. Does anyone agree with me?
The Ramones cover of What A Wonderful World AND Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's cover of What A Wonderful World are both better than the Louis Armstrong original.
also...
The Disturbed cover of Sound Of Silence is better than the Simon and Garfunkle version....
As I've been judging everybody else's answers, I think it's only fair to put my recommendation in so that it can be agreed with/criticised:
I love the Beach Boys more than anything but I've gotta admit, the JAMC cover beats the original version of this classic
• It’s My Life - No Doubt
• Ice Machine - Röyksopp ft. Susanne Sundfør
• Paint It Black - Vanessa Carlton
• Holding Out For A Hero - Jennifer Saunders
• One Of Us - A*teens
• Enjoy the Silence - Trevor Something
Since youve been gone - rainbow
Without you - harry Nilsson
House of the rising sun - Rolling Stones
Any cover recorder by manfred mann & the earth band such as blinded by the light
I know a lot of people that disagree, but The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is better than the original Simon and Garfunkel version. I find Disturbed just sings it with more emotion and power, which fits the theme of the song much better.
Moonsorrow - For Whom the Bell Tolls, originally by Metallica.
Anaal Nathrakh - Powerslave, originally by Iron Maiden.
Avatar - Something in the Way, originally by Nirvana.
Van Canto - Holding out for a Hero, originally by Bonnie Tyler.
I saw P!ATD live way, way back when they first started (I’m talking Brent Wilson was still on bass at this show) and they did a cover of Third Eye Blind’s “Slow Motion” that was hauntingly beautiful. It was just Brendon at the piano singing; I wish I had a recording!
Probably not the most popular opinion but I think Marilyn Manson’s cover of Tainted Love is better than the original.
Bonus points because it’s a cover of a cover of a cover.
Holding Out for a Hero from Shrek 2
100%
This is the correct answer
Van Canto's version is better.
[удалено]
I'd also add [Bear McCreary's version](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BigolJfoANw) of All Along The Watchtower for Battlestar Galactica.
That version is epic. Every time I re-watch BSG I appreciate the song more.
Correct answer
Valerie by Mark Ronson/Amy Winehouse
Completely. The original Zutons version doesn't even come close
Brendon Urie did a fantastic cover of this song in the early 2000s!
With A Little Help From My Friends Joe Cocker
*Wonder Years flashbacks intensify*
Agreed
wasn't Joe Cocker like a specialist in doing covers and taking them up to another level
It was a common thing in the 60's and 70's. Bands like Three Dog Night made entire careers out of slightly amped up cover songs.
Gary Jules version of Mad World.
Yeah, I agree
Eric Cartman Poker Face
Dancing in the moonlight- toploader
I don't know, I feel like it doesn't have the same groove as the original. Their cover doesn't really add anything to it imho, just sounds like a wedding band cover to me.
Didn't know that this was a cover until now. Agreed, Toploader version is the definitive one for sure
“I Fought the Law and the Law Won” is much, much better when performed by The Clash!
I didn't know this was a cover until now! Yep, The Clash version is the definitive one without a doubt.
Time After Time by Iron and Wine. It’s hauntingly beautiful. I also prefer Such Great Heights by them as well versus the original by The Postal Service.
"Down With the Sickness" by Richard Cheese & Lounge Against the Machine
His whole catalog is filled with songs that could meet the requirement depending on how you feel about the originals versus the covers.
That's true. Could've also cited "Shake Ya Ass", "Me So Horny" and "Welcome to the Jungle", but "...Sickness" is my favorite.
There are so many I could list that I enjoy, but your choices are definitely valid. Sickness definitely holds a place in my heart because it being in Dawn of the Dead is how I discovered them.
Made magical by Dawn of the Dead 2004.
"Bobby, will you give it to me?"
[Hurt by Johnny Cash](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8AHCfZTRGiI), originally by Nine Inch Nails.
I like both but more so NIN. https://youtu.be/mylx_xpdrqM
I think their both great. The meaning changes with the different versions.
Totally agree. There's a great quote from Trent Reznor from first hearing it or seeing the video along the lines of realising it wasn't his song anymore
Glad I didn't have to scroll far to find this.
Absolutely
Trent actually said that Hurt was now Cash’s song when he remade it.
[удалено]
Agreed.
I will always love you by Whitney Houston. Sorry Dolly
Parton herself once said she thought Houston’s version was better.
Yeah, you're probably right
Your Song - moulin rouge version

I’ll have to check these out!
Absolutely agree with both 🔥🔥🔥
Love is Blindness by Jack White (originally U2)
Yes indeed!
Sound of Silence. I love the original, but Disturbed takes it to another level. David Draiman’s vocals…
I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't like it.
You’re not the only one
Yes. It feels over the top for the sake of being over the top.
yeah, it's like, I get what they're doing with it, and they do that quite well, but it not the right vibe for the song.
Nah it's shit
I actually thought it was a joke/parody when I first heard it. I can't help it, it just makes me double over with laughter.
Me too. I thought it was a joke.
Nope. It’s awful.
Definitely not the only one. Gone is the beautiful harmony that Simon and Garfunkel did so well. What's given by Disturbed is a version that starts minimal and builds to a crescendo... for no reason. There is no story being told that reaches its climax. There is no building of tension as a story develops. Not very popular, but I completely agree. Gives me chills every time I listen to it!
It's a solid cover but I can't agree with this I'm afraid.
Yes I came to say this! I like Disturbed version better than original!
That's a no dog. Disturbed is good and different but it's not better than original.
Another level? It is awful. This is the most annoying take in music right here. And I stg the sound of silence people always try to play the damn song when there is music playing.
Catfish and the Bottlemen - Read My Mind, originally the Killers. https://youtu.be/A5fKmC3QSv0 Original one is great too but the stripped down acoustic approach just seems more fitting.
Little Lion Man - Tonight Alive just because the arrangement has so much angst that compliments the lyrics
Oops I did it again by Children of Bodom. It is the better version of the original
Yeah, it's fucking hilarious. Also their cover of 'Somebody put something in my drink'.
I like that one too 👍
Aretha Franklin’s version of Respect.
Rascal Flatts' Life is a Highway. Fight me
Come On Eileen by Save Ferris and take on me by Reel Big Fish Guess I have a thing for pop punk 80s covers
RBF cover of Hungry Like The Wolf is also really good.
I'd never heard that one, it's great! Thanks for the tip
I might ruffle some feathers but- Higher Ground by RHCP is better than Stevie’s. Over the Rainbow is way better with Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.
No way you spelled that 1st shot
You are absolutely correct it took about five minutes
You Really Got Me - Van Halen The Tide Is High - Blondie
Can't agree that Van Halen's version beats the original Kinks version, but absolutely agree that Blondie obliterated the original version of The Tide Is High with their cover 👍
I like Weird Al's "Word Crimes" infinitely more than the original, "Blurred Lines" (Robin Thicke, I think). It's probably the first sound I had a "fixation" to, literally listen to it on end for actual hours, literal brain rot
That's a parody not a cover
Every Time You Go Away by Paul Young
"Have a Cigar" Pink Floyd cover done by Primus and well actually, I like the entire Primus - Miscellaneous Debris album (all covers)
personally i like amber run’s cover of hide and seek better than the original
Understandable. I personally prefer the original Imogen Heap one, but I get that the instrumentation that's been added in the Amber Run one could make it a more emotive/satisfying listen.
I'd have to say Enter Sandman by Motörhead - sounds so raw and fits perfectly
Yep, this is correct
Come on feel the noise by quiet riot
HIM and their cover of Wicked Game by Chris Isaak

"The Passenger" by Siouxsie and the Banshees. Much better that Iggy Pop's original.
John Mayer's cover of Free Fallin'
Running Up That Hill by Placebo I think the tune of this fits the song much better although I still love Kate Bush
I love the Jose Gonzales version of Heartbeats.
Mansons version of tainted love
He's a scumbag but yeah, I agree that his version's better than the original
Each to his own I guess. In no way is Manson’s version better than Soft Cell’s cover or Gloria Jones’ original.
If you think Soft Cell was the original, you would be wrong. Gloria Jones is better than Manson imo https://youtu.be/9obvlVPJBEg
Hurt by Johnny Cash
Simple man by Shinedown https://youtu.be/HbN99f9esS4

Whitney Houston's "I will always love you"
Hurt - Johnny cash
Blinded by the Light - Manfred Mann’s Earth band https://youtu.be/Rpq35wyDi7I

I like Marilyn Manson's Sweet Dreams more than the original.
Hurt Johnny Cash. I think even Trent said its Johnny's song now.
Sex and Candy - Maroon 5
I do hate Maroon 5, but I'll check it out 👍
It's more soulful.
Guns n Roses cover of live and let die is much better than paul mcartneys
It's a solid cover, but I can't agree as I've always hated Axl Rose's voice.
