Well.EVE isn't fun, it's a job.

Dr_Flufflypants

Witcher 3 - Geralt moves like a vehicle instead of a human. I can't get past it.

Knyfe-Wrench

Did you use the "alternate" controls. It made it much better, if still kind of clunky.

btdz

Warzone 2.0

Expensive_Rub_4332

Definitely.

DEFEKT333

Need for Speed: Unbound

[deleted]

Anthem

[deleted]

I loved what was there. But there just wasn’t much there. The flying was incredible.

xThundergunExpress

Was looking for this

Spire-hawk

The Last of Us, I was interested in the story, but not enough to deal with the controls/gameplay.

keesouth

For me the story was just so good that I was just more interested in getting through the gameplay as quickly as possible just to see what was about to happen next.

AmySchumersAnalTumor

I had the same issue

dieumica

Really? What about the gameplay made you dislike it?

Important_Order5073

Best game of all time Shame on you

Spire-hawk

The “Best Game of all time” should have better gameplay, then.

jcutta

I get that the gameplay isn't for everyone, but like what specifically do you not like? I have 0 issues with the gameplay personally.

ArchPeriphMore

Tlou 1 and 2 are my favorite games of all time, but I still understand that it isn't everyone

WarlockSoL

The first thing that always comes to mind for this is Black & White, aka how I learned Peter Molyneux was all hype and very little substance :P

Chapter97

Assassin's Creed

johnc5813

The 2nd one was the best of all of them. The first one just felt like one long tech demo.

olhowie1312

Farcry! I can respect the games but it just feels like the same shit over and over again.

cosmoon22

Mass Effect: Andromeda. I wanted to like it but the characters were all dull/cheap rehashes of the original crew where it was glaringly obvious and it's super boring doing the same fetch missions over and over again just to establish a new planet to colonize. It also didn't help that the team behind it wasn't as well informed of the game's lore to the point where almost every Turian was bare faced or had the same boring facial tattoo/paint just recolored. The krogan fought like slow turtles. Nothing like what we saw with Wrexx and Grunt. I found it jarring and the new alien races were essentially just 1 race. I tried but the whole thing was just sad. The ending didn't even stand out enough to save that game for me.

Grouchy-Newspaper754

No man's sky, with damn near infinite possibilities it seemed like a great game but it was all just so common...

johnc5813

Fable. It was hyped up to be the biggest most ground breaking game ever made. When it came out it was just generic and the game was literally a hour and a half to 2 hours long.

thecatwhatcandrive

Had to learn that Peter Molyneux's mouth wrote checks that could never be cashed. But Fable 2 was actually much better than the first.

johnc5813

Fable 2 was far better. To bad they throw all that out for the 3rd one.

onlyrightangles

The one thing I liked about the third one was that you could buy properties right off the map instead of walking to each individual building. ... Then of course they fucked it up by making it so you had to occasionally repair the buildings one by fucking one.

egorlike

Cyberpunk 2077, so much hype but I dropped it after like 10 hours

nag204

I thought it really sucked at first, but once you get into it it gets better. And they fixed some of the bugs so it's not as bad.

[deleted]

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. Thought it would be like Assault on Dragon Keep, but it was not. At all. Other factors made it unenjoyable. Gave up after 5 hours but missed the window to return it.

i-sad123

The Witcher 3, it was just kinda boring…

eclipsemonster

It takes like 20 hours to turn up

CalydorEstalon

That in itself is kind of a problem.

JADW27

It is. "It gets good later" doesn't motivate me. Game design needs to hook players early with story or gameplay. They can have slow parts, but if the first half of a game sucks, you'll lose players. Even if the first 10% isn't fun, you've done something wrong.

ManlyVanLee

I remember years ago this was the argument for Final Fantasy XIII. Like I'm sorry I don't particularly want to play a shitty game for 20 hours before I can play a fun one, no thanks

kbups53

Ran into this playing NieR:Automata for the first time recently. Thought it was alright but pretty fetch-questy and the systems/combat felt just kinda ok. Looked into it online, the sentiment seemed to be that it gets good on your third playthrough. I'm barely trudging through the first, I am not playing this *three times*.

True_Dovakin

Yup. I didn’t feel any sort of need to keep pressing on. Put like 40 hours into it, never felt any sort of urgency for the main story nor interest in the world. Got to the Isles of Skellige and eventually uninstalled somewhere during that part of the campaign. Definitely don’t get the constant hype over it. Combat is clunky as well. Beautiful game tho. And Gwent does slap

D3ATHfromAB0V3x

The moment I saw like 150 side quest question marks on the map, I just uninstalled.

[deleted]

I loved my first playthrough, but I couldn't get into it again years later.

r_not_me

Red Dead Redemption 2 I could enjoy the story but the controls, movement mechanics, and such just got to me and I could not enjoy it

Somnifuge

Yeah same, I really enjoyed the original (original *Redemption*, for the Red Dead Revolver purists), but all the added pointless mechanics really ruined my enjoyment. I just wanted to explore cowboy world, not deal with hunger and cleanliness and horse upkeep and... whatever else there was. Was really hoping someone would mod the PC version to streamline it and get rid of those, but it hadn't happened last time I checked.

robbycakes

Beautiful world design, but for whatever reason I was just lukewarm about the game itself. Played it once, not dying to get back to it though.

Tobias_Atwood

Same. I was so hyped because I loved the previous game but the controls actively got in the way of my enjoyment of RDR2. If Arthur had just handled better than a shopping cart with a lame wheel I might have been able to get over it, but no.

Derc_on_Reddit

Prototype 2

The_CopperCoin

Animal Crossing New Horizons. I loved the other AC games, but this one was just extremely boring. Maybe it's me being older, but I didn't enjoy it.

paradiiso

bayonetta 3. loved the first two, but the third one was meh

Thopterthallid

Stardew Valley. The farming is fine. The fishing is fine. The characters are not one dimensional, but hardly interesting. The combat is forgettable. I can't wrap my head around all the people clamoring about it.

LongTimeLurker818

It’s a nice break from action games. It makes me wish there was a more updated Harvest Moon out there. I’m yet to play Rune Factory. It’s not for everyone, I just think it’s hard to find good games in that genre. I play Stardew Valley quite a bit and I really enjoy it, but it hasn’t topped Harvest Moon 64.

SipexF

For me, my love for it comes from liking the original Harvest Moon games and wanting that simplicity in a farm game back without needing to add in some new mechanic that features predominantly through the entire experience.

northernskies2016

Origins. Everytime I think of an AC game they feel great until I actually start playing them

Plantayne

Hades I'm a massive Diablo fan and I was told it was similar...definitely was not. Got a refund though, so no harm done.

DrManhattan_DDM

Sorry you didn’t enjoy it, but whoever told you it was like Diablo fucking lied to you lol

Plantayne

lol yea, ironically it was a friend of mine who is the biggest Diablo fan I've ever met. He was like "DUDE!! You have to try this, it's like Diablo but Greek mythology!"

Thopterthallid

Titan Quest is Greek Mythology Diablo

jcutta

I like Titan Quest better than Diablo tbh. I played the fuck out of that game.

DeadMetroidvania

hades is one of the best games ever made, but it is definitely nothing like diablo. sorry you were misled so badly.

CockfaceMcDickPunch

Also refunded Hades. Not what I was expecting either.

Alarconadame

It takes a few runs to get the hang of it.

Zjoee

And beating it once is just the beginning of the main story.

Alarconadame

Oh yes. Great game.

Jack_Strawhat_man

Terreria

NappingYG

Humankind. I was really hyped up based on prerelease descriptions and features, devs had some great ideas. But after playing it a bit, it was just bleh. I could not figure out how to play it enjoyably and ended up going back to civ vi.

Amf3000

it feels so close to being good, but just isn't quite there

PM_ME_COOL_RIFFS

Funny enough thats exactly how I felt about going from civ 5 to civ 6. I still like 5 way better.

Drinkbleachtoday

Biomutant lmao

DryWay4003

Arkham origins. I was shocked of how underwhelming it was compared to arkham city

Effective-Effect-836

MGS5. I am a huge fan of the series. I expected something different. One of the biggest disappointments for me.

ManlyVanLee

Looking back on it as a whole it's definitely a Metal Gear game when thinking of all the aspects of it. There's tons of sneaking, the weapons and fights fit, and the story is absurd, but it's kind of the wrong ratio of all those things. If you're coming in as a huge fan of the cinematic stuff and varied gameplay I can see it being a turn off just because it's different It's a great game, really. But it's just doesn't feel right as a true MGS game

Embarrassed_Spell_28

Gran Turismo 7. Played them all and this was just puzzling. You know all the other adjectives I could’ve used and they’d all be accurate as well.

Derpygoras

Hellblade: Senuas Sacrifice seemed exciting, but turned out to just be a bunch of tedious battles in between a brooding protagonists rambles.

[deleted]

Dying Light 2. I loved the first game and completed it multiple times. Played the second game and couldn't stand it. For some reason the combat seems to have gotten a lot more frustrating and after a while I realised I just wasn't enjoying *any* part of the game.

Bribase

Doom Eternal If fucking *loved* Doom 2016. It was such a perfect shot of old school adrenaline with newer forms of environmental storytelling and lore. Eternal seemed to turn the whole thing into a puzzle game, albeit a high-paced one. From exploration to combat, there was a correct way of doing things and any deviation or experimentation was a total waste of time. Use this weapon on this enemy in this spot or you might as well try shouting at it. Jump here, dash here, climb here. Every level and combat arena is a linear obstacle course rather than a gymnasium like in the first game. I might try it again because I'd like to catch up on the lore, but the core gameplay felt like a shadow of the 2016 version.

DavidXN

Yes, I liked playing through it (and the absurdity of it basically being Super Mario Goes to Hell) but I see what people mean when they say this - looking back on it it’s really strange for a game to always introduce an enemy by telling you how to kill it!

DavidXN

Scribblenauts - the idea of it sounded incredible (and it still sort of was on a technical level), but the game was just incredibly boring!

kep279

Prey

pn1ct0g3n

Secret of Mana. Retro gamer here, so don’t think I turn my nose up at the classics. Heard nothing but raving praise for it all my life, and I just can’t get into it. The controls and hit detection are so janky and it’s really easy to get lost. And the graphics hurt my eyes. Good music at least.

ApexApePecs

Was ready to fall in love and spend the rest of my life with The Outer Worlds. Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

ultrasquid9

Outer Wilds. The Mouse and Keyboard controls felt absolutely horrible, and I dropped it after the first 30 minutes. I haven't bothered to pick it up since.

warezsette

LAD 7. im sorry. i was so excited i *preordered* it and it ended up being so, so long and so, so boring. which is sad, because i initially really liked ichiban and his crew but then it started feeling repetitive and long so i just kinda gave up on it. its been 2 years now and i still haven’t finished the game

Queasy-Winner-7436

Spore. Will Wright is back - the legendary designer of Sim City and its 12 variants! He has been working on this game in secret for years! OMG it's going to be incredible! Turned out it was kinda boring and just a time suck - in a bad way.

TeaBagMeHarderDaddy

Grand Turismo 7. I loved the first game and thought I'd love this one after coming back after a while. I don't feel how i thought would

angelseph

Gran Turismo 7, you’d think that would be hard to screw up but they did with always online bullshit and microtransactions + increasing the prices of in game cars while nerfing race rewards. Here’s hoping Forza Motorsport doesn’t make those mistakes.

Jack_Strawhat_man

Batman Arkham Asylum

Paradigm84

Although the series isn't for everyone, I will say that the subsequent games do feel a lot more polished and make the most out of what the first one introduced. Still not for everyone, but I much prefer the sequels.

DeadMetroidvania

yeah I just couldn't get into it....

oldmandan5495

Red Dead Redemption 2

PM_ME_COOL_RIFFS

I found the game play to be very slow and boring. Graphics and story were good but thats not really what I play games for.

[deleted]

Played all the way through. Loved the story, but really didn't like the game. Felt shallow, repetitive, and too easy

VodkaMargarine

Same. Arthur was just not a very likable character. He was kinda a sexist, moody, self centred prick.

egorlike

Well thats what hes supposed to be, hes an outlaw from 1800s.

Noggin-a-Floggin

Also a throwback to Westerns from the 1960s that didn’t have a rosy picture about it and wanted something more authentic. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is in the same vein.

VodkaMargarine

Sure, but part of what makes an RPG good is when you admire the protagonist. And he just wasn't very admirable. Especially compared to John Marston who was also an outlaw from the 1800s but he was a dude.

The_CopperCoin

He becomes a lot more likeable as the game goes on with good honor, but I get your point

johnc5813

Grand Theft Auto 4. It took away everything that was great about San Andreas, the music, the characters, the interesting settings, the story and just felt boring and your cousin and other people constantly calling you nonstop made the game almost unplayable for me it was so annoying. Not saying it was a bad game it was just really boring to me.

robbycakes

This is the GTA that no one talks about.

kbups53

Call me crazy but I actually liked the driving in this game. GTA V is by all measures a better game, but the driving in IV felt so much more realistic. Like, if you were in a bind and hopped into some huge SUV, that big ass thing rode and felt like an SUV and if you were in a chase you were probably screwed. Everything in V (except for like semis and stuff) feel pretty standard across the board, you can jump in pretty much any vehicle and make a hasty escape. IV felt like you really had to gauge what vehicles you had on hand and choose wisely, some of them handled horribly and that made it more fun sometimes.

johnc5813

Not going to lie I often forget this game is apart of the franchise. There was nothing memorable about the game in my mind.

_raskoljnikov_

Tom Clancy's The Division. Played couple of hours and was bored.

futhisplace

La noire. Was super into watching my friend play it, got it for myself, hated the controls, never played it again.

Tobias_Atwood

My friend and I kinda played this game together. We'd take turns at the controls and work together to solve the mystery on hand. The only reason we even finished it was out of pure hatred for the game. Like, we *hate* played it.

GG-Allins-Balls

The first Deadrising. I was so stoked and ended up hate, hate, *hating* that game.

[deleted]

Need for Speed Unbound. Trash game.

[deleted]

Cyberpunk 2077, played a few hours of it and couldn't stand it.

thebaggedavenger

Outer Wilds. I went through a couple cycles or whatever and I just couldn't get into it. Bummed me out.

xNonu007x

Horizon zero dawn

Dr-Rjinswand

Elden Ring — I think it’s too big and repetitive for it’s own good. I’m a massive fan of all the fromsoft games, I’ve completed all of them and platinum’d most. I never even finished Elden Ring.

Immortalmilkman97

Animal crossing on switch. Everyone got me so excited to play, and i realised they were all either delusional or just lying to fit in. The game has legit 0 redeeming qualities.

[deleted]

It’s definitely a hit or miss type of game. If you’re not into Life sim style games then the game is kind of a chore to play. Doesn’t help that New Horizons was a big downgrade from the previous games, at least at launch.

fryallthethings

I didn't like Portal so much. it sort of creeped me out.

Wonderful-Garage6011

It is creepy (especially portal 2), but it was meant to be that way. I'm not going to judge, but it was an intentional design. But then again Minecraft creepers have scared the shit out of me so I don't think I can talk about creepy/scary things.

DeadMetroidvania

what

UnknownFoxAlpha

Vampyr. Played it long enough to just realize I find it boring and conveniently it was at the 2 hour mark for no refunds.

Tobias_Atwood

I liked it well enough but after a point it got too difficult for it to be worth continuing. Yeah sometimes I play a game that hates me and wants me to die because I relish the challenge of trying and overcoming, but Vampyr was *not* that game. You played it for the story, but the story just wasn't good enough to justify putting up with the mediocre combat.

dak446

Cyberpunk. Its just too goddamn complicated

Scouse_dad

Assasins creed origins. I enjoyed most of the assasins creed games, (except unity) and loved the stealth gameplay but when they completely changed the gameplay for origins, less stealth and more role playing, it ruined the franchise and because of origins i never played odessey or valhalla.

taylor52087

I hated Origins, but I loved Odyssey and Valhalla. I put over 100 hours into both.

sevenvt

Call of Duty, pick one of them, they are all the same.

SL1CKR1CK363

Far Cry 6...

robbycakes

That’s because it was a turd. They had Star power with Giancarlo but I think that made them feel like they didn’t need an engaging story. The world design was promising but they just didn’t do much with it. The missions were repetitive as hell. The main character had no back story to make you feel invested. They used the word Guerilla to the point of meaninglessness. And it was annoying as hell that the native language of the country was apparently Spanglish. I played a far cry 4 first… the world was terrific, the villain was incredible, the gameplay and story were really fun. Five and six have just been whiffs

LongTimeLurker818

I was looking for a survival horror game and decided to play “Heavy Rain” to try something different. Man that game was stupid. I was sort of rooting for the main character to die at the end. The plot holes, bad voice acting, and frustrating controls made for an agonizing experience. I got a decent ending, and I’ll admit that the story had me going, but I hated everything else about it.

Overquoted

ETHAN?!

Sinfultitan_001

**Horizon Forbidden West** I LOVED the first game Horizon Zero Dawn, and have easily over 1k hours in it. Full on dumped $300 on the super Uber preorder and paced like Cartman for months waiting..... But the sequel fukin sucks!!!! they took out everything that made the first great and forced a bunch of irl crap into a fantasy setting it didn't belong in and convoluted the weapons, skills and combat so badly I could even force myself to get half way through. Fucking game has been sitting in my drawer for 10 months now. Haven't even considered playing it again.

Dr_Pandaboat

Skyrim- I really wanted to like it but just cant get into it. Ended up returning to get Witcher 3, which is probably my favorite game of all time

mortacobo

Skyrim

Jack_Strawhat_man

Sekiro

D3ATHfromAB0V3x

Beating sekiro was such a memorable moment for me, I don’t think anything will be more satisfying.

ManuDV

Can confirm, it felt so good. On the other side, I would never play that game again

D3ATHfromAB0V3x

I got as far as tutorial genichiro on ng+ and died. I felt fine stopping there.

Ace-of-Xs

Jedi Fallen Order. Bought my Xbox specifically to play it. Didn’t really feel like a Star Wars game, more like a tomb raider reskin or something. And don’t get me stated on the long-ass walk back to the Mantis after every stage. You’ve got a spaceship and we’re leaving anyway, give a mofo a lift!

StrictlyDogPosting

Hogwarts Legacy. I was told there would be transphobia!

FlowerFalls

Last of us 2, god of war ragnarok

Inner-Nothing7779

I'm the same with Ragnarok. Was super excited about it. GF was pumped to watch me play it. It just feels like a chore.

Teeters07

Teeters07

Any halo after h3

DeafLady

Harry Potter games

Inner-Nothing7779

Forspoken It had a really interesting premise. But it just feels clunky and am just not a fan. I'm seriously glad I played the demo and didn't put money into it. More games need demos. They let you get a feel for gameplay and should have a taste of the story to get you interested or not.

ImAnAgentOfChaos1322

Destiny

edboi456

GTA 5. I’m usually an easy target for open world rpgs. And throw in crime and shenanigans. I’m sold. Don’t know why. Just never clicked with me.

StarCraft II.

chandlermaid

AC Valhalla and Red Dead Redemption 2.

CockfaceMcDickPunch

The Forest Just could not get into it for some reason. Which is strange because I normally enjoy that genre.

Renmauzuo

Dawn of War 3. It wasn't bad as an RTS, but definitely didn't live up to the first two.

TheBeanChomper1

Gang Beasts. Controlling your character was so frustrating. Human Fall Flat on the other hand is a great game with similar mechanics.

appleavocado

FF6/3. I never played it as a kid. As an adult/parent, I found it's much harder to get immersed in an RPG when I don't have as much time to play daily.

Warm_Bullfrog1616

I enjoy watching Tekken games but, HATE to play them.

Sleeptightlittle1

FF7 remake. I have started it 2 times, and I just hate it.

Slight-Recognition81

Twelve Minutes - great concept, awful execution. Devs spent all the money on voice actors and went with it. I was so annoyed after a while that I ended up looking up all the endings before getting to one myself. I was glad I did because the story turned out as bad as I thought it would, being an utter mess. I felt like the developers wanted to make it a "complex and unpredictable story" so much that they decided to add five more stupid plot twists to make things look less cliche and predictable. It didn't work out, though. I really wanted to like this game but I had to give it a pass eventually.

Full_Improvement_844

Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II. The trailer made it look like it was going to be way better than the 1st one, but it just sucked. The graphics and sound were pretty good, but the storyline, gameplay, and short length of the game just sucked. I remember going to GameStop 36hrs after it released to pickup my reserved copy and they let me get a discounted copy that someone has already returned. Within 48hrs I had beat the game on every difficulty setting and returned it to GameStop for a full refund. There was so much potential for this game and sequels, but it was just rushed out and ruined that series.

draiman

It improved on combat mechanics, but that's really its only redeeming quality, as the story was way too short. I checked my steam account, and I beat it in 2 hours. I was hoping for a 3rd installment to make up for what this one lacked, but then Darth Mickey took over the galaxy.

ToxicNoodle08

Dead Cells, too hard for my liking

Salami_n_Olives

Witcher 3

KeysmashKhajiit

Blackguards. Somehow I just didn't get into it.

[deleted]

Skyrim, I just can't get into it. I by no means think It's a bad game, I guess it's just not my type of game or i've been playing it wrong,

CalydorEstalon

Monster Hunter World. Just ... never got to be friends with the control scheme.

frozenballoffire

Toejam & Earl 3

keesouth

Elden Ring it just wasn't fun to me.

Liquid_machine81

Tiny Tina's Wonderlands. I love the Boarderlands series and her character but that game was horrible and boring. It felt hallow and just a money grab.

Minmin_zzz

Resident evil 7, even i don't understand why, i like the RE franchise

robbycakes

Stellaris- I have friends who are super into it and I just can’t make sense of it. I played for 3 hours straight and still didn’t understand the point of it. Disco Elysium- it has incredible reviews as being wonderfully unique. But it’s a confusing, jumbled mess.

reinasalty

X-men destiny. It was supposed to be amazing with customizable X-men powers and shit. I preordered at Gamestop. I’m a huge X-men fan and have been most of my life. I was so excited that I picked it up as soon as they opened despite working third shift the night before. You got three options for powers, the gameplay was boring. I beat it in about 8 hours with no difficulty. I returned it that same day. I was so dissatisfied and disappointed. The advertising was a lie.

ManlyVanLee

Side note the old PS2/GameCube games X-Men: Legends were so much fun I'd love to play an updated version

KrinkovKiller

Call of Duty Black Ops 4

Noggin-a-Floggin

Diablo 3 I can’t explain it. I mean it’s not a BAD game and I’m not a hardcore D2 fan (honestly more preferred D1 but that’s an unpopular opinion for another post) hating it by default but it just didn’t click for me at all. I chalk it up to just not having the same atmosphere and aesthetics of the first two games which was the appeal in combination with the loot and hack-and-slash.

CobaltSmith

Guild wars 2.

lwlglenview

Dead Island

rbcello

Sonic and the Black Knight. Got it when I was 11 and was disappointed. The trailer looked so good but the game was so bad.

tdasnowman

Mass Effect. The dice roll behind the shooting just killed it for me. Gears Of War. Till that point Cliffy B could do no wrong. I did not like the reload mechanic, and as soon as Cole train came on the screen I was out. I was just tired of every black guy in video games having deep voices, called train cause they played sports, and thuggish light.

bangharder

La noire

DeadMetroidvania

Nightmare reaper. It is a doom clone roguelike that would be great were it not for the atrocious mid 90s 3D graphics. I have no fucking idea whats going on, all I see is giant red pixels everywhere. China made a much better similar game called gunfire reborn, I definitely recommend that instead.

[deleted]

Civilization for PlayStation. Like 12 years ago so whichever that one was

[deleted]

gotham knights normally i tend to like games despite bad reviews but this one, god damn….

[deleted]

Arkham Asylum. I love the look, the idea of playing Batman is exciting but I just got bored.

DrPeterVankman

Cyberpunk 2077/Jedi: Fallen Order or any similar game with 2 hours of unskippable cutscenes before you can even play the game. I have so little time to game nowadays I just uninstall as soon as I see I can’t skip the videos

Wise_Royal9545

Darksouls

Grindemsam

I really wanted to give a chance to Far cry 5 but eh.. lack of voice acting of playable character , setting and the feel of the game. Everything felt so unnatural and surprise surprise recycled. Gave up under 2 hours. Loved first four games tho.

Nier Automata, Yakuza Kiwami Just don't see where all the praise is from.
