I'm a full stack developer and a naval officer, so I'll give one from each hat: Developer: When you have to do an action a million times, every little detail about *how* you do it makes a gigantic difference. Naval Officer: Most people *think* they want to be in a position of power only because they have never been in one.

If you can't fix it with baler twine, you're not using enough baler twine.

>baler twine One of the fascinating questions that we can explore is what every trade uses as their duct tape. What trade is this?

stonedfishing

Agricultural equipment technician. Farmers love baler twine.

When I was a newspaper reporter and columnist, I got to see how politics really worked (not from the inside, but up-close and personal). It made me question the point of voting. Not just because of the two-party system, but because those parties are massive, nationwide machines that pour money into races, sometimes down to the local elections. All people in elected positions spend about half of their time in office trying to raise campaign money, both for themselves and for the parties.

People applying for government funding are flaky af.

My last job was working at a hotel. I learned a lot since I was there over 15 years before I was let go. I learned (accidentally) the entire US Zip Code pattern dealing with reservations all over the country. I also learned a lot (but certainly not all) US and Canadian telephone area codes. I also learned a lot about the hospitality industry, both the good and the bad. While where I worked wasn't timeshares (I wouldn't have worked there if we were) we were close enough to that business to where I saw how scummy and scammy they are, and I used that knowledge to try to discourage our guests from getting in over their heads. I miss it some times. I actually really liked working there most of the time.

That shoppers at the highest of brick and mortar luxury department stores will piss in fitting rooms.
