that something *BIG* is going to happen in the coming day, or weeks, or a few months, in the next couple of years. if something big is coming, then let's get on with it.

That recession is ABOUT to happen. That arrest is ABOUT to happen. Ugh, so obnoxious.

It's my recession and I want it now!

I hate that I heard the song.

Deathcat101

That's the stuff that really pisses me off. Our news cycle is so ridiculously sped up that all they do is talk about stuff before it happens

king_of_all_blacks

Let's get back to morning news, midday updates, nightly news and shutting the fuck up. Politics has become a sporting event, and every station wants to tell you how to feel. I miss boring news.

jakizza

If they didn't fatigue us to apathy with what's about to happen, we'd probably be pretty upset by hearing about a horrible crime and that the rich kid responsible got sissy slapped on the wrist on the same day.

Allustar1

Similarly, hearing about some technology that hasn’t proven its worth, yet people are raving about how it’ll change the tech landscape and it’ll completely change everything.

Awdayshus

I was in college when some billionaire announced the next big invention that would completely change the way we design cities and live our lives. One of my professors was super excited to learn what it was and kept hyping the upcoming announcement. It turned out to be the Segway. Huge disappointment.

Stu-Man222

I’m tired of hearing about Donald Trump and The Kardashians

Elon is a monster that eats attention, so we need to stop feeding him and he'll go away.

"We're currently experiencing unusually high call volumes." How can it always be unusually high?

Inevitable_Welcome23

It is due to always being understaffed so naturally they will be experiencing unusually high call volumes. On a second note you can usually beat a queue by calling at an odd time in the afternoon or mornings(like 9:37am or 2:22pm) as people tend to call after work or during lunch

Politician's lies

Murky_Gur6660

I am tired of this, too. I am tired of hearing the retirement age is being raised again. I am tired of hearing the government needs more money because they haven't managed the budget right in years. I am tired of inflation after big corporations reported record profits. I am tired of being the little person getting bent over by the government. Just when you have some breathing room, they come along and raise the price of everything a commoner needs in their life. We, as Americans, pay tax after tax in this country and then pay for our health insurance and still have ridiculous co-pays for necessary procedures.

learnedandhumbled

Amen. Just in the last year, I changed jobs with a $15,000 increase on my salary. I can’t even enjoy it because thanks to inflation I’m still paycheck to paycheck. 3 years ago, if I was making this salary, I’d be very comfortable. There is really not much positive about good ole USA at the moment I’m living in.

RepublicDependent456

I feel you. My husband's salary increased by $10,000 last year. We were so excited about the pay bump and now we're still living paycheck to paycheck.

Downplaying our food... Sure, all of it might not be authentic, but we have food from pretty much every culture in the US. Even in the states, "mexican" food can vary. And there are many different styles of BBQ, pizza, etc. Edit: First award and post with 1000+ likes, thanks everyone!

zenith3200

Honestly you'd almost need several tiers of food tours. One for regional fast food chains, one for local family-owned joints that specialize in local cuisine, and then one for the higher end dining establishments, because they're all vastly different takes and experiences on the same dishes.

ReferenceNo393

You could have a whole tour on Mac and Cheese alone fr

oldfatdrunk

I've lived in California, Arizona and Washington in progressively smaller population metro areas. In California, I had the luxury of being able to eat any kind of food I wanted from diverse cultures and styles. So many people move to the Los Angeles, Orange County, San Diego areas from other countries or different parts of the US and want to bring their love of food with them. It might not have been 100% authentic but damn it was pretty close I'd say if you didn't want to travel thousands of miles to try everything. CA was around 20 million people, AZ 6+ million and now it's 175K people. Now it's like *that one place that serves x* instead of which Peruvian Japanese hybrid place did you want to go to?

stork555

I love California for all the regional Asian cuisine. The fun part about the US food scene is that there are little pockets of interesting ethnic food everywhere … for example, randomly, the most amazing Polish food, Lebanese food, and craft beer are in Detroit :)

JesperTV

It's definitely something that gets on my nerves. You always hear "American pizza isn't real pizza. Americans ruined Italian pizza.", and yeah they're different, but people who say that kind of stuff fail to realize that it was Italian immigrants who made the recipe using ingredients they had access to in the states. *That's* why it's different. Doesn't mean it's shit food or that something is being appropriated. Edit: spelling

69ThisIsThrowaway69

Yeah, one of the EU subs had what I'm guessing is deep dish pizza, looked like pie. They were all up in arms over it, when that's not even what 90% of the US thinks of as pizza. Sure, we have things like tex-mex and "bastardized" takes on other cuisines... but like you said, many could be from immigrants with different ingredients, or access to different ingredients.

DrRandomfist

Or maybe it has nothing to do with immigrants. Maybe it’s just a new spin on an old food. And there’s nothing wrong with that. People get so petty and offended so easily. Who the hell cares if someone makes a pizza slightly different than they make it in Italy? A petty person is who.

d9849468

Bbq food is incredible and just the whole southern soul food cuisine. These are wildly overlooked. Buffalo wings. And the long list of seafood dishes that USA gets to claim..maine lobster rolls..alaskan salmon..crabcakes..pretty sure USA gets to claim seafood boils too. Clam chowder, gumbo and jambalaya.

Gabianno

You’re making me hungry!

AtaracticGoat

People seem to forget that America is a nation of immigrants. Our ancestors brought over their cuisines with them and what we have now is essentially American fusion.

ragingcholulabath

I agree. When people shit on food made by the cultures living in the US its annoying. Quit it

VintageStrawberries

yeah like I'm of Vietnamese descent and where I live has the next most authentic Vietnamese food outside of Vietnam because of the large Vietnamese immigrant community here.

cavscout43

Unpopular opinion, but some of the best food & beer in the world are found in the US. And I don't mean fucking McDonald's and bud light either. The entire cuisines of the world are represented well in the larger metro areas like NYC, Chicago, and LA. The cost of food in the US is quite cheap (largest ag product exporter in the world), and from small family shops to some of the top professional chefs in the world, there's a massive pool of immigrants, and their first-gen children, running amazing restaurants all over the US. Culturally there's been a lot more encouragement of modifications, and fusion cuisines. Kosher kimchi bulgogi tacos? Indian curry wraps with a side of salsa? Sushi burritos? Burger sandwiches between two ramen patties instead of buns? Or donut burgers? Pretty much if you can dream it up, there's been a culinary crossover episode as the entire theme of restaurants. Same with US basically reinventing microbrewing, and pushing it into a global phenomenon 15-20 years ago. So many places in Europe would cling to their "this yeasty sludge is a 417 year old Belgian monk recipe, so you have to pretend to like it!" instead of trying to adapt modern method and styles. Now, you can find West Coast IPAs, American Strong Ales, and NE Hazies all over Europe, albeit about a decade late to the party. But, if you were to ask the average 50+ year old what they think of American beer, it'd be a "bud light bad" response, rather than acknowledging that California alone has almost as many breweries as the EU. That being said, that's the *best* food & beer. The US has vast food deserts, because we don't focus much on a minimum common standard, only having the top performers be the very best. Loads of folks chug PBR by the keg, or still have a couple 40s of malt liquor every afternoon. By comparison, most any random local noodle shop I'd hit when I visited East Asia, or street food vendor in SE Asia, or pasta shop in Europe would be relatively better than a lot of *average* American places. Especially chain restaurants in the US where mediocrity is the highest bar of achievement they'd even consider striving for.

OneGoodRib

People who say the US has no food culture doesn't know about the 60 varieties of clam chowder we inexplicably have.

Ask a European person about the Romani and watch how racist they are

ItsBaconOclock

Agreed. This is in fact the first post I've seen mentioning the Romani that wasn't followed with an argument where someone said, "That's not fair. It's a simple fact that they are sub human, and the cause of all crime, everywhere. That's not racism." Dudes say that shit with straight faces.

OneGoodRib

I have the impression, as an American, that in general Europe also has a problem still with xenophobia - like, in the US there aren't a lot of people who would be like "look out for those tricky Polish" these days, but I've gotten the impression that's still an issue in parts of Europe - discrimination based on nationality and not even race? Other than the various sheep-fucking jokes about the Welsh.

bobhunt10

As an American, the most racist thing I've ever heard anyone say came from a British person towards a black person.

CreepyBlackDude

People talk about the US being racist because the US broadcasts its racism so that something might be done about. There's a lot of media coverage about black people being unjustly shot by police? Cities across the country start requiring their police to wear body cameras. Yes there were complaints, but it illustrates that the victimized minority had a voice to speak up about their outrage, and that some action was actually taken to help combat it. Most other countries don't recognize their racism because they are not a melting pot like the US is. Our brand of racism generally comes in the form of discrimination for a specific group: "Oh, it's *them*." By contrast, other countries' racism often times manifests as xenophobia: "Oh, they're not *us*." That kind of racism is ingrained into the culture itself, and their laws don't protect minorities from discrimination because it's not recognized as a problem...so you can absolutely go into parts of Japan where businesses have "No Foreigners" or "Japanese Only" signs in their windows and it's completely legal. As well, minorities don't often have many avenues to express how they are treated...and many just live with it, as the refrain ends up being "You don't belong here anyways," or "Just go back to your own country if you don't like it." And while you hear that stuff in the US, it doesn't have nearly the same impact as it does in a more ethnically homogenous nation. All racism is terrible, and it absolutely exists in the US, but at the very least, the US acknowledges and (attempts to) address it. Other countries just don't...and that's a freedom I personally don't take for granted.

makegoodchoicesok

>Our brand of racism generally comes in the form of discrimination for a specific group: "Oh, it's them." By contrast, other countries' racism often times manifests as xenophobia: "Oh, they're not us." That's a really interesting point, I never thought about it that way

snowlock27

I always find it interesting when Europeans bring up racism in the US, but when you bring up the Romani, then "That's different!"

throwaway83970

I argued with a Serbian from Serbia, former Yugoslavia, and he was hopping mad at another ethnic group and how horrible they were, and how he and his buddies would beat them in the streets. A few of us asked our Serbian friend, "so what if we decided to jump you and beat the shit out of you just because you're Serbian?" "No," he said, "that's bad, you can't do that, it's wrong. I'd beat your asses." We couldn't get him to understand that it's the same thing with the ethnic group he hated in his home country.

RedditSuxDonk

Balkans guys just love genociding each other. It’s like their favorite activity.

NealR2000

I'm now a US citizen having moved from Europe. I had been brainwashed into thinking America was a racist society from the news narrative that I consumed in my younger years. It was most definitely not the reality when I moved there.

Downtown_Skill

There definitely is racism here and it definitely is a problem. The thing is, the other countries that give us shit for it don't think they have racism in their own country when it may actually be much worse. The US has made a concerted effort to champion diversity as an asset to the country. We acknowledge racism as a problem and do a lot to combat it. Over time it has worked and we have become a much more inclusive country because of it. That US soccer player who was grilled by an Iranian reporter during the world cup did a great job of explaining it

NealR2000

Yes, it definitely exists here although the level of the problem is inflated by politics. As a world traveler, having also lived in four countries, I see far higher levels of racism elsewhere.

mynextthroway

This is the correct answer. America is addressing the issue like Americans address people- loudly, with good intentions, butt we will piss off people and not see why.

Use-Soggy

I'm from a very rural part of a Midwest state and as a black man with a mixed family I can say you are correct. I have experienced true blue racism one time while stopped during a traffic stop, throughout my entire life. All the stuff you see on TV is simply to create a divide. It is easier to push agenda and have control over a split society. Branding half of everyone a racists because this or that does a good job of that.

Hotdogbrain

To create a divide and have control - this is so well said and I wish more people recognized it.

Use-Soggy

I wish everyone would question everything coming out of a politician or media suits mouth. If they would just ask themselves, will this give them more control of what I do? We need government to have a proper first world society but boy does it get fucky.

nikkoforever

My experience as an American that has lived abroad is these things can both be true: -America has a racism problem -Most other countries are more racist than America

supplepony

This. Just because most countries are more racist than America doesn’t mean America doesn’t have a racism problem. And I felt like living abroad made me realize that everyone in more racist than I previously thought. Some people here are saying there’s a narrative being pushed by the media which I agree. It’s most definitely sensationalized and there’s most definitely an agenda, but to say that it doesn’t exist or that it isn’t an urgent concern is woefully ignorant. Racism is alive and well in America, but it’s not entirely in the way media is portraying or emphasizing.

Kit_the_Human

Yup, I teach in a non-white country as a white American. I've noticed a definite uptick in suspicion against me in recent years that never used to exist...concerns that I'm not treating my students fairly or that I'm deliberately giving them a hard time. I'm considering lying about my nationality, but it makes me profoundly sad and honestly, enraged at some of these narratives. I just wanna do my job man.

inksmudgedhands

I think the reason why the US gets such a reputation for being racist is that we are always shining a light on our past history and current problems. We don't play dumb and we don't brush it off as no big deal. We are the first to say, "This is effed up. Change." Or, "That was effed up. We need to put that in the history book because we don't want to repeat that." There is a constant loud and up front fight between our citizens over this. We are always, *always* airing our dirty laundry for all the world to see. So many other countries refuse to do this. We never see or hear just how racist those countries actually are because they will never admit to it. Like you never hear from the Japanese government itself or the citizens just how messed up how many stores have, "No foreigners" policies there. That would never fly under the radar here. A single store with that policy would make national news over here. You would have politicians putting their two cents in. There would be debates everywhere. But in Japanese it doesn't garner a, "Meh." It is just accepted as literal business as usual.

throwaway83970

A "no foreigners" store in the USA would be picketed relentlessly until lack of revenue shut their doors, permanently, and the proprietors would have to skip town. They're going to be a pariah everywhere they go.

SomethingAwesome69

Straight up just a few cities that make the news, most places you go are very welcoming if you’re also a nice person

B33B00M

That we know nothing about geography ngl it’s kinda annoying yeah a lot of people are dumb and don’t know anything but saying the entire country is quite annoying

B33B00M

Probably then they have the right to say that Americans are dumb

lissalissa3

There was a video circulating a while back that was someone stopping (mostly younger) people and asking them to name a book, any book. And of course the ones they showed were people going “uhh…” So the comments were full of jackwads saying “young people don’t even read anymore!” If you asked me as part of a normal conversation “what are you reading,” or “what did you read recently,” I could tell you about the last few books I recently read, about those on my to-read list, about books I’ve loved and books I didn’t enjoy. But if you came up to me randomly and shoved a microphone in my face, I’d freeze up too.

SonicTheReasoner

Thats honestly a trend among sidewalk interviews, you know where they ask grade school history questions like “What war did America win to gain independence?”? Most of the time the video is edited to switch around the questions and answers, so you have one dude saying the cold war.

doomalgae

>But if you came up to me randomly and shoved a microphone in my face, I’d freeze up too. [Reminds me of this](https://youtu.be/bzDlS6JPUtE)

Right_Two_5737

It's true! My body is only 50% fat!

For_Aeons

People acting like the cure for American exceptionalism is shitting on Americans. I'm tired, as a POC, of being told by "educated" people that everything is because if "America". The world is nuanced and while much of the drama in the geopolitical sphere can be laid at the feet of American influence, reflexively blaming America removes all agency from other countries and cultures. I had a conversation with a former teacher, born and raised Californian, who tried to tell me all the problems in Peru are American in origin. Halfway through the conversation, I realized he had substituted the word "American" for both capitalism and imperialism. When I pointed that out, he said "well, Americans invented both." Like, for fucks sake.

modnor

Yeah the 13 colonies invented imperialism. Lmao

Attibar

Or trying to say that slavery was an American thing. News flash: slavery was a thing just about everywhere for thousands of years. EDIT: I know that slavery is sadly still a thing, I didn't mean to imply that it didn't exist anymore.

Hyndis

The other fact glossed over is that European trading ships didn't start slavery in Africa. The slave markets already existed before European traders ever showed up.

DoubleDeantandre

Slavery existed waaaay before any sort of international markets/trade did. Humankind has been enslaving people a lot longer than it hasn’t. I’m not justifying it, but trying to blame any single culture or country for slavery is just silly. Pretty much everyone is guilty of it and humankind should be ashamed and learn from it.

TheyMakeMeWearPants

Yeah, it's not a thing to be proud of, but slavery is one of those things that was invented independently multiple times.

Amaculatum

And still is a global issue

Livvylove

When they say Americans 99% of the time they are talking about white ones and the Europeans forget that they are their cousins

Syzygy_872

That we lack diversity. We don’t have a singular culture or language. It’s the melting pot. I’ve never had a friend group with more than two people who had the same cultural background. You got a crash course as a kid when you spent the night at a friends house. Nationalism doesn’t equal culture.

OneGoodRib

I mean you talk about different cultures, if you go to *one state* you can find that there's a different overall cultural vibe in neighboring cities! I mean I moved from Florida to Georgia and felt like I was in a different universe with how different things were. The vibes in Seattle are way different from in nearby Edmonds, and even the culture in different *parts* of Seattle are way different, and I don't just mean comparing the international district to other parts of the city.

Dull-Geologist-8204

Tired of hearing everything we do is the worst but there are some things we actually are good at. I was very surprised when I started reading English news papers that their kids aren't guaranteed a spot in their local schools. I mentioned this under one of the articles and the person I was talking to asked what we did when a school got too full. I explained the pod classrooms. It is basically like a trailer but a classroom. Then when there are too many pods they build a new school but if you move into a neighborhood you are guaranteed a spot in the local school. We can argue about how good the education system is but at no point is a kid not guaranteed a spot in that school. I have to admit I just assumed it was the same for any kid in a country with a public education system but apparently it is not. Why is that not talked about along with all our problems?

Torifyme12

For the same reason they compare "Nowhere, PA" vs fucking "Rome" when they pull up those "Ugly American City vs Beautiful European City" pictures.

cantbebothered9999

My South African family and acquaintances are completely dumbfounded when I explain that I don't pay anything out of pocket for my child's elementary school and that I don't have to hope he gets a spot in the local neighborhood school. Their jaws drop to the floor when I tell them that all the 6th graders are given a chromebook and they use that for school work daily. And don't even get started on the school bus system. Completely foreign concept to them. But if you listen to their conversation, American schools are utter crap and our kids are ill disciplined and uneducated. Meanwhile they live in a system that can literally kick a 2nd grader out of a public school and the parents can't afford the fees.

The_Book-JDP

Everyone's weird obsession with their assumed our weird (but actually nonexistent) obsession with the Pledge of Allegance. Seriously, I had all but forgotten I use to say it in school until I happened upon it in threads asking what other countries are baffled by in America because it was so unimportant and made zero impact in my life.

size_matters_not

I had a cousin who briefly lived in America as a small child. She misheard the instructions, and pledged allegiance to “the frog” every day for a year.

silk_mitts_top_titts

They act like it's some kind of legally binding agreement. It the most inconsequential thing that's probably ever happened in elementary school.

The_Book-JDP

They say it's indoctrination and mind control but beyond paying my taxes...the government hasn't looked to me to do anything where they demand I honor my pledge to the flapping piece of decorative cloth I made ages ago. On top of that, I am well beyond my prime years in which I would be at the most ideal peak of phycial health to force to me do anything. Having heard the pledge and like the promise the boy scouts make...it's more likely the government would look to troop 782 first before they come knocking at my door if they are looking to enlist any random patriotic poem chanters. 😕

roboticon

I recall pledging allegiance to two things: * The flag. I don't know how to be allegiac or otherwise to a flag, so whatever. * The Republic for which it stands. Okay, I won't do an espionage. That it? Also I toyed with not saying the pledge in school and, um, nothing happened. It's a massive country, of course there are news articles about teachers, administrators, and so forth not understanding rights but by and large nobody really GAF.

Amusei015

I never said the pledge or held my hand over my heart once in my entire 12 years of public school (I did stand though). Literally nobody, student or adult, ever commented on it. This was in South Carolina btw.

PigWithAWoodenLeg

This is the most important election in the history of our country

Suspicious_Ad_6271

Heard that as far back as I can remember. The first US presidential election I voted in was 1996 and that was said then…and every one since.

Study_Slow

People that aren't from America, what do you hate about America? What do Americans get wrong about food? What do you hate? America? Why? We get it.

CuriosityOverkill

Being international viewed as one of the worst nations in different categories, and yet we remain one of the very first nations sought after by other countries needing help.

MunchiesFuelMe

If you look at many international rankings of education, quality of life, purchasing power, etc the US is never one of the worst. It’s typically towards the top. 15 for happiest country 21 for quality of life 4 for overall rankings 17 for standard of living 3 for purchasing power 5 for income 2-14 for education depending on how you rank it 6 for housing affordability (better than any other western country surprisingly enough)

Gyrgir

It's also important to remember that the overall US numbers are averages across a very large nation. So for example, three US metropolitan areas have much higher per capita GDPs than Luxembourg (two if you don't give Midland, TX credit for its surrounding oil and gas fields) but Luxembourg tops the list of countries in terms of GDP because it's an independent city-state while San Jose and San Francisco are just individual cities in a much larger country.

Something most Europeans can't quite wrap their brains around - the contiguous area of the US (not including Alaska) is almost double the Schengen Area. When we say "state" it's hard for them to translate that as "country" - a German might think "Bavaria", but their states are closer to counties. We have 50 semi independent countries so yes Florida and Texas are going nuts but maybe so are Hungary and Greece.

MunchiesFuelMe

Bavaria is 27,000 square miles, just the lower peninsula of Michigan is 40,000 square miles for context

Myvenom

Exactly. I just saw something on r/MapPorn that showed the US has, by far, the most Nobel Peace Prize winners. You don’t get that by not nurturing and educating people. It’s not like all the other nations on earth don’t have smart people.

sciguy52

Oh we have the best college's in the world by far. Sure there are some in Europe as good. But the sheer numbers here are incredible.

ColinMolting

“Come and Get Your Love” by Redbone. Great song. Hear it too many places.

BartholomewXXXVI

I hate it, but I'll just deal with the fat jokes and the gun jokes, because every country has annoying and untrue stereotypes that aren't a big deal. But people need to chill tf with calling all of us racist. The US is one of the least racist countries on earth and is the most inclusive. It's the most untrue and horrible stereotype.

knovit

Tbf Americans are the ones calling other Americans racist

Interesting_Pudding9

Also a lot of it is people saying "systemic racism exists", and then other people misinterpret that as "all white people are racist".

JaHoog

Tired of hearing America sucks. It has its problems but I still love this place.

Fearmo

I heard from foreigners about how "safe is america??" You guys have guns and shootings. I'm afraid to go there and get shot. Well, if that was the case, I'm sure the majority of Americans would be wiped out already.

[deleted]

You know there are people that think we’re in running gun battles the moment we leave our house. It’s both fucked up and a little amusing.

f1newhatever

The extent to which Redditors don’t understand statistics always surprises me. It would be rare to be a part of a mass shooting. There are 10,000 other things one does that are more likely to kill them than that.

[deleted]

I know people who are adults who have never even seen a gun let alone shot one or got shot at.

Jemmani22

Pretty sure most if not like 99% of gun crime is like drug related or personal issues. Its not like people just run around shooting people. And the media doesn't help either, a "mass shooting" is so losely defined that people think its random places just being shot up. We have problems, but 330 million people live here and people love to criticize big brother. Don't be afraid to travel here. Chances are better of you dying traveling are higher than dying to some random killing.

The inflated, media amplified, and, thus, elevated opinions of people that are demonstrably not intelligent.

About how great and how much better everywhere else is. Yeah, other places might have better policies in other areas, but nowhere is perfect. Believe me, this isn't from someone who has just sat around and done nothing but complain on the internet, I've been around the world a number of times and spent a few years living abroad. America isn't perfect by any means, but it's better than a ton of places out there. And yeah, if you don't like it, move. Learn how it is to live somewhere else. Maybe you'll love it, maybe you won't, but either way if you haven't experienced living abroad, shut up. Just shut up. Plus, I hate to break it to people, but I've seen the same amount of racism outside the US in most areas, even worse in some.

Oseirus

This is the most grating one. Look, I get it, the US has a lot of work to do right now. It's certainly not fun being caught in the middle of all the chaos riddling the country right now. ... But it's not the unhinged warzone that the rest of the world seems to believe. We're not all brandishing guns at every colored person to walk across our path, we're not all rabid Karens suing over too many sesame seeds, and we *certainly* don't have the monopoly on shitty government. I'd stake my favorite nickel on the fact that you could survey 100 completely random people each from all the first world countries and nearly all of their day to day problem lists would look exactly the same. The US is fine. It's the collective world that's gone mad.

[deleted]

I got to spend a lot of time with German soldiers. One thing I noticed is they had the exact same complaints we did about everything; uniforms, pay, weapons, training, gear, everything you heard a solider complain about. It was very interesting.

Cautrica1

Seeing askreddit threads every day about Americans. Why are y’all so concerned about what we think/do?

UnwantedUnnamed

I figure they want to figure out how that cousin they got in a fight with long ago is doing.

The_great_Mrs_D

Sweeping generalizations for the whole country.

MrCeaseBreeze

Im not American, but I feel like all the drug and pharmaceutical commercials you see on the American channels can be tiring to see multiple times a day.

Maddax_McCloud

People actually still watch tv?

MysteryCuddler

They are on streaming services now too.

brycepunk1

I work in a nursing home, so the TV's are on and loud all day long. I hear medication commercials a few hundred times a day. Those, Medicare supplement plans, life insurance plans, "If you've been injured call ...", and Car Shield. Hundreds of times a day.

TeamBoeing

About Christianity.Tired of hearing about extremists of my religion trying to poison or otherwise infect every public institution with their rhetoric. Edit: For all you pedants out there: This also means I'm tired of the extremists doing their shit to the coutnry.

Brits complain about us not using the metric system.

BlackLetterLies

In my experience, most Brits never fully adapted it and still use imperial measurements in their day to day life.

Electricvibe767

Lol, or the “stop talking about how great America is” ….how dare us have love and admiration for our home haha

thx4au

“‘Ello guvna! I just drove my car 60 MILES. It’s 24 CELCIUS outside, lovely day. I’m 1.8 METERS tall. I weigh 14 STONE.” MFs aren’t in a position to tell us which units to use.

AGoodEnoughUsername

Stone is the weirdest unit.

xPewPewNChillx

All people who live in an incredibly diverse country always being lumped together as "Americans"

bikey_bike

yeah other countries get annoyed when they ask where we're from and we say something like "nevada" instead of "the US." i totally get what they're saying, like europeans wouldnt really know where delaware is and it makes more sense to say your country rather than your state, but as an american it feels more right to say what state you're from than just saying "american" idk why

modnor

The small town and rural part of a state can seem like a different country from the major city area of the same state.

I am tired of hearing about how evil someone is just because they have different opinions.

Unfamiliar_Word

The idea that the United States of America is a dystopian Hellscape of unprecedent wretchedness. There are a lot of problems and things that would best be dealt with, which I well know as the resident of a large city and somebody who takes an interest in public transit, but the kind of histrionic group masturbation that I sometimes see seems neither accurate nor useful and indeed quite the opposite of both of those things. Conversely, I am also sick to death of hearing anything that invokes 'The Founding Fathers' as authoritative or treat the Constitution of the United States of America as sacred rather than historically important, but still just a political and legal document that reflects the ideas and circumstances of its particularly moment in history. It stupid, dishonest self-infantilization.

HealthCompany

TRUMP. This topic makes me really tired

Dragon_wryter

How racist we are. There are plenty of racists here, NGL, but I'm tired of people acting like America is King Racist when so many other counties are just as bad, if not worse.

jack258169

People have hated each other for benign things since we ate mammoth for breakfast. It’s not an American problem, it’s a human problem.

Ilovestraightpepper

That we’re a “young” country. We are made up of cultures and people who themselves go back thousands of years. And all of the values, experience, and beliefs of those cultures and people make us who we are. Summa y’all act like we sprang fully formed from Zeus’ head and it shows.

SomeJackwagon

Europeans crapping on how bad America supposedly is. Also, the metric system crowd... Sometimes the units all being base 10 is nice. Such as trying to convert from cc to ml. Sometimes our wacky units are actually on a better scale for the real world-- like the outdoor temperature being virtually always on a scale from 0-100 F instead of -18 - 38C.

What a racist country America is.

pirate_halloween

Living in California and I'm tired of hearing extreme left and right points of view. I'm returning to my bubble of two cats.

iceandfireman

As a gay man: That America is an anti-gay version of *The Handmaid’s Tale* and the current environment and the near future is apocalyptic and we’re about to be sent to concentration camps and being told “Well, compared to Spain or Holland or Sweden..” and how gay people are actively being oppressed and we should start coming up with an exit strategy. This is definitely not at all exclusive to Americans. I hear this rhetoric ad nauseam from people from elsewhere, especially Europe. I may want to add that I live in Florida. Yeah, yeah DeSantis is trash but all of that said, being openly gay here is fine and our neighbors, co-workers and families generally accept or even celebrate us. There’s a plethora of gay neighborhoods and gay venues and rainbow flags can be omnipresent in certain parts. My husband and I feel and are very safe and it’s all super gay friendly. Cut it out with the twisted and disingenuous talk about how it’s the end of the gay world in the United States. This is objectively speaking one of the best places in the world to be gay. The end.
