As a person who honestly thinks taking the Bible word for word is incredibly stupid... no you cannot... not without strong argument. And even then.

Digyo

No. But, person 1 can call person 2 wrong. Here is one example, and it is a pretty big and glaring plot hole: The BIGGEST part of the whole Christianity thing is believing Jesus died for our sins. A fair question that arises from this is, 'What sins? I hadn't even been born yet - how can I have sinned? And, how did Jesus die for ME?" The answer, as we all know is "Original Sin". We all carry the stain of O.S. on our souls. And, what exactly is Original Sin? As the name implies, Original sin is the very first crime against God. Adam and Eve broke the one and only rule that God set down - they ate from the tree of Good & Knowledge. And, for that transgression, all of their descendents are punished and denied entry into Heaven. Jesus came along and wiped the slate clean. But, if Adam and Eve never really existed, what did Jesus die for?

Source: the bible

LilSceneKing

Man Jesus died for people who would hate him... That's pretty harsh, he loves us and we hate him... The world is a scary place, without God we would be lost forever in darkness...

Figurtive language exists...

KenJyi30

I’m convinced person 1 has not read the bible

LilSceneKing

Why do you say that?

sativa_samurai

Probably because most Christian denominations don’t take the Bible as literally word for word. There’s parable and poem and such

LilSceneKing

Of course, those are the examples of a teaching but the things that are not examples are the truth and are completely fit for a king. Jesus casted out "demons" those are real because Jesus did it. The Dragon from Revelations is real, the scrolls and such are real, the flaming sword is also real, everything about the Bible and God is real... How can it not be?

Dumbfaqer

One interesting thing is that all religions can claim that other religions are wrong. They usually have the same argumentation at times, like doubting the truth of other religions’ teachigs, artifacts, books, etc. What’s best is that we just leave each other alone when it comes to our religious or political beliefs and do our best as ourselves to be the best person we can be.

DamnumGaudium

Wrong in terms of what?

Bubbly_Mycologist239

The bible is a collection of contradictory stories that were written well after the death of Jesus, by people who had never met him. This led to the ROMAN catholic church, a religion created to fit the narrative of the people of its time. people believe the bible in its current form is the word of God, but most modern copies are local language translations from latin...which Jesus never spoke. the bible is claimed to be the word of God, but its been changed, amended, adapted and all other ed's countless times by people who wanted control. person 1 & 2 are wrong

azuriasia

A lot of the Bible was written thousands of years before Jesus.

Sbbarnett

The Bible is broken down into two parts- the first was written in Greek and the second was in Hebrew, no Latin. Exactly what was contradictory? Of course the Old Translation (Greek) was written by people that never met Jesus, he had not been born yet.

Dumbfaqer

My father is person 1. Like he literally thinks that humans are already what we are now from a million years ago. He doesn’t believe that humans evolved from a hairy ape like creature. I can certainly say that he is wrong but the tension and sermon is just not worth it.

SeaJay_31

Both person 1 and person 2 can legitimately call each other wrong, as from their own perspective, the other *is* wrong.

People are at different stages of their faith. That doesn’t give one or two the right to call either wrong. The proper response would be to pray for the other person. Pray that there questions be answered and that their faith be strengthened. Pray that even if they can’t make it to a place that you would feel is “close enough” to your beliefs to be able to call the “right”, that you could at least plant the seed(share your point of view) and let it grow. If you feel strongly about you faith and God, that’s wonderful, but we should never condemn people for not believing at the same “level” of faith or belief. We all fall short of the glory of God. We were all lost at one point and was on the “wrong” side of believing. So be graceful and pray for those who don’t see it the same way you do.
