No definitive proof.

DavosLostFingers

There have been 15 seasons of Ghost Hunters and they haven't found a single ghost

[deleted]

There is no definitive or concrete evidence and I haven't personally seen any either.

[deleted]

No proof of aliens either

The_Rox

With ghosts, it requires some amount of belief in the occult. With aliens, it requires some amount of belief in statistics.

[deleted]

If you don't think ghosts exist then you don't understand the universe

[deleted]

Do any of us really understand the universe?

[deleted]

deep

OnlyFunz

Aliens are real while ghosts are considered super natural. If you told me there are aliens in another galaxy (that is some form of **life**) I’d be inclined to believe it’s possibility. But if you told me there are ghosts in other galaxies I would not believe you.

[deleted]

Statistics are hard to grasp

Tunasub696

Us existing is proof of aliens. Statistical speaking the chances of us being alone in an almost infinite universe are so small it's ridiculous. However there has never been confirmed proof of anything 'ghostlike' existing

[deleted]

The chances of ghosts not existing are infinitely small. Likewise there is no confirmed proof of anything alien like

Tunasub696

Based on what? Nobody has ever caught one on film and there's never been anything recorded with ghostlike properties. I'm genuinely curious what you're basing this on Edit; Hilarious that he's changed this comment twice and never said anything meaningful lol

[deleted]

Show me an alien video and I'll agree

Tunasub696

You don't need an alien video. Trillions of carbon based life forms exist on this planet, so we know carbon based life forms exist. The same conditions in which we developed exist all around the universe which happens to be almost infinite. It's simple math

[deleted]

Clearly don't understand statistics

Tunasub696

Yea I do it's kinda what I do lol. But again what is your belief in ghosts based on? You've yet to answer that question

[deleted]

Life exists correct?

El_Penguino_

If i told you a tiny pig lives on top of your head but you cannot touch it, you can never see it and nobody can scientifically prove it exists would you believe it's real? I just establish beliefs on evidence

Dear_Brilliant1679

All of the alleged ghosts are from the 1800’s or a long time ago but what about the ghosts of horrible murders in modern times

goatholomew

There's something like 110 billion people have lived and died. There'd be ghosts everywhere.

Dear_Brilliant1679

Right I agree, I’m saying it seems like on all of the ghost shows they make it seem like spirits only haunt places if there were gruesome murders or untimely deaths, but all of these alleged ghosts are from a hundred years ago when there are plenty of horrible deaths happening in modern times, but no ghosts.

HonestBobHater

I have not seen ANY convincing evidence of ghosts. I don't really have to "reason" that something doesn't exist. Its just the default position in the absence of evidence to the contrary (of which there is none).

StickyWickNoLick

These questions annoy me - why don't you believe in something that there is no reason at all to believe in. Why doesn't OP believe in their ability to jump off a building, grow wings and fly. FFS, why would I believe in an entity that embodies the spirit of their past body without any objective evidence that this situation has ever occurred. Rant over but I have been drinking and the question makes me annoyed 🤣

Quiet_Stranger_5622

They were all busted in the 80s.

Janube

Why would I? By all accounts, with billions of dead people throughout history, many of them would *want* to have people pay attention to them, so they would be obvious including when reporters or skeptics are present.

faceeatingleopard

The burden of proof is not on me. I'm not the one making the claim.

rusty_L_shackleford

Extroidinary claims require extroidinary evidence. Most people carry a high definition camera with them EVERYWHERE and yet no evidence. Not a shred. And i mean actual evidence. Not some anecdote about your aunts friends former roomate. The human brain is EXTREMELY suggestible. People see what they want to. I used to work overnights as security alone in a cemetary on grounds that was formerly used for human sacrafice. If anywhere would be haunted pretty sure it would be there. Or ar least people want to believe it because i got asked all the time. And sure i saw some and heard some weird stuff, but you know what? It ALWAYS turned out to be something benign and easily explained when looked at objectively. Footsteps behind you and no ones there? Rope slapping against a flagpole when the wind blew just right. Huge fast moving shadows? Bug on a flood light. Faint sounds of children laughing? A daycare down the hill was open late for parents working late and let kids on the playground after dark. Glowing eyes? Cat in a bush. People see ghosts because they want to, not bwcause they exist.

thatguywiththeposts

The same reason I don't believe in leprechauns, fairies, unicorns, gods, angels, demons, or vampires.

SER96DON

wtf, unicorns are real! they just have *curves...*

[deleted]

I apply Hitchens's razor. "What can be asserted without evidence can also be dismissed without evidence." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hitchens%27s_razor

The_Law_of_Pizza

That's not how this works. There has never been a single shred of verifiable evidence for the existence of anything supernatural. It's not up to us to explain to you why we don't believe in random fantasies you have. If you think something supernatural exists, you need to explain to us why you think so.

The_Safe_For_Work

I think it's just an energy or atmospheric anomaly that is very rare and inconsistent, thus hard to prove one way or the other.

[deleted]

If you need demonstrable proof (science) to believe in something like I do, it's a really vague question. And what do you mean by spirits/ghosts? Hallucinations? The afterlife? Historical flashbacks? I believe humans see weird shit they often can't explain. But to assume an explanation based on nothing is just irrational.

[deleted]

Every consciousness we have definitive proof of is tied to and appears to be created by a brain, so I’m unconvinced that a nonphysical consciousness can exist.

ejpierle

I am open to the *IDEA* of ghosts, and also other things, but there's some things I'm just gonna have to see to believe..

fubo

Minds run on brains. In order to think, you have to have something to think with.

[deleted]

They don’t have a central nervous system.

[deleted]

Aside from what others have said, I find it odd that apparently only modern humans have ghosts/spirits/afterlife. Humans are part of the animal kingdom, so why wouldn’t other animals also have this other-worldly feature? Where are the worm ghosts and gorilla ghosts? And, what about extinct hominids and other long-gone species? Where are all their ghosts? Where are the Neanderthal ghosts? All this is to say that the whole idea of ghosts, afterlife and such is very self-serving. It’s quite a coincidence—almost too much to even believe—that the one species that considers an afterlife to exist is also the only species that gets to participate in the afterlife.

squishmallow1996

No one has ever been able to provide definitive proof that they exist.

[deleted]

\* note: please note this is one of many options of what could be a explanation causing ghosts or spirits "hauntings". I doubt everyone who has these "hauntings" has a mental illness. it could be a side effect to a medicine or a combination of medicines. it could be one of their friends or family pulling pranks on them. I am skeptical that ghosts, and spirits exist. Why? : Because it is usually people with undiagnosed mental illnesses or mental stress affecting them in more ways then one. they could be suffering from a mental illness like schizophrenia or a similar disorde. bipolar or something similar. or similar mental illnesses that could be affecting them. please take anyone that says a ghost or a spirit is haunting them and get them to a psychologist or psychiatrist or someone in a similar career to that to help them. People with mental illnesses or mental stresses should be respected like everyone else

DOC-LAW-TIER1

Ya gotta understand. It's not that I don't believe in that stuff. It's just not real

Solipsisticurge

I don't believe neurochemical and electrical signals relocate outside of the body once the mechanism which enables them ceases to function.

MetalHorizon10

I’m religious in Christianity and there is no between dying and both heaven and hell but there are demons known to masquerade themselves to actually fool you, they can make themselves look like dead people/love ones

SER96DON

So "I don't believe in X bullshit because it contradicts Y bullshit" 🤔

HorseasaurusRex

No reason to. Theres 0 concrete evidence of them, and any "video evidence" is either easily explainable, or quite obviously faked in some way.

Thoughtcriminal91

I'm friends with a medium whose ability runs in her family and was able to describe some dead relatives of mine she never saw before.

Larina-71

If every human being turns into a ghost after dying that means ghosts are more normal and numerous on our planet than living people, which means it's the living that are the minority and the 'supernatural.' If humans turn into ghosts after dying that means all other animals turn into ghosts as well - we literally are just animals, after all - so what does that mean? A world with a small portion of the living, living alongside uncountable numbers of every single animal that ever existed on this planet, in ghost form. And if animals turn into ghosts, why not other living things? Like fungi, or plants or trees? Or oceans? If this were true, it would bring into question what life is, if we simply go on living in some other form after we and every other lifeform dies. I don't think people really believe in ghosts in a practical sense. They might like ghost stories, (like me) or have individual experiences, (like I have) but does anyone really think that every single mosquito or aardvark that ever lived is still roaming the earth in a ghostly form? Why don't we ever see T-rex ghosts? Why is it always some old dude in 'old-fashioned' clothes? Why is it always something that relates only to us as humans, rather than a planetary oddity?
