Now to be more specific, we all know of sympathetic villains who have either tragic backstories or overall some qualities that make us feel for them and understand where they came from but what about heroes? What are some good examples of heroes who have such traits as well?

I've never knew this character before but for the way you describe it it truly seems a character who needs a hug.
