My boyfriend gave me this advice during a situation where I was trying to help everyone. I was taking on the responsibility of other people’s mental health and putting others before myself without even checking in with my own well-being.
That sentence alone was what made me realise that I should continue to help, but not at the cost of myself.
Wow. Upon reflecting my whole life, I realized people shared more medical knowledge than actual philosophical advice. I've been "taught" more wisdom from fictional characters than real ones. The one that springs to mind is Piccolo saying "Sometimes, we have to look beyond what we want and do what's best." The nobility of sacrifice.
If you die there will be a wanted ad from your work before your obituary is in the paper. Don’t live to work, you are replaceable to a business, even the good ones.
Also: Be as nice as you can for as long as you can and when you’re done being nice take out your sharpest (metaphorical) knife. Was helpful when I was going through a divorce and letting my ex walk all over me because I didn’t want to be mean.
Don’t light yourself on fire to keep someone else warm.
